Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support
I see your point. as always, great ideas! Keep up the great work - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2009 7:13 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support Hi Corry and all, Letting the end user remap the mouse, keyboard, change all kinds of game settings might be nice, but it isn't realistically feasible from a programming point of view. What many non-developers fail to recognize is that there are some very strict guidelines professional developers try to follow when developing software. These guidelines are there to hopefully produce a better product. First, keep the design simple. Keeping the code and over all design as simple as possible makes it easier to maintain the program, perform upgrades, fix bugs, and prevent bugs in the program. Adding lots of user choices and options only complicates the program and makes testing, debugging, and maintaining the program more difficult in the long run. That is one reason why I don't include a lot of end user options. Second, use only as many system resources as absolutely necessary. Even in todays computing environment where we have plenty of processor power, memory, and faster disk drives, etc it is no excuse to waist system resources unnecessarily. Cutting down the amount of memory, processor power, etc required by the application will in turn result in a faster, lighter, smoother running application. When a developer adds all kinds of user options all that ends up doing is waisting more memory and cuts down on over all program execution time. Even if it is a few KB of memory and a few milliseconds of time it is still a bad habit to get into, and is a poorly designed program. AS it happens Beta 5 is fairly resource intensive right now, and I am trying to work on the engine to cut down the amount of resources it uses. On systems with lots of speed and memory the system resources aren't that bad. However, I've tried it on a couple of older machines here and the game constantly crashes with memory errors. It seams anything less than 512 MB of ram won't cut it for this game right now, and I want to fix that if I can. Make the game use less memory, processor power, and run smoother on both older and newer systems. If I were to add all kinds of user options such as personal configurations for the mouse I will no doubt increase the memory and speed problems instead of resolve them. So I am reluctant to add too many end user settings and configurations. Smile. Is anyone playing TDV with the philips 2909 game pad that some of us picked up from walmart? If so? How successful are you in the game with it. Also, I threw this out on the BSC Games mailing list with no luck. Just was wondering if anyone is playing the pipe version two Blast Chamber game with the 2909 and how successful are they? I used the cheat codes with it yesterday for a game of all side scrollers. I did pretty good with that. It looks like my problem is finding the correct pipe and twisting the valve with the gamepad. Any and all advice would be appreciated it. Its pretty bad to be a beta tester for the game and not being able to get out of the practice round with the gamepad. By itself, the game, I think, comes with two old-time stadiums. The rest of the stadiums you have to buy with stadium discs which are also listed along with the season discs on the website. With that said, I really haven't noticed any differences in game play if you just use a regular old stadium full time, although they try to build stadium and weather effects into the game. Again, this is a very old game as far as computer games go, and no real updates have been done to it since 1998 or 1999. Granted, new season and stadium discs are still being created, but the actual engine and core of the game have not been updated in ages. Regarding its accessibility with a screen reader, the menus for starting a game or exiting, in other words, your basic menu bar is accessible without the jaws cursor. Picking teams once you get to the teams selection dialog are listboxes and buttons, so really you can use your pc cursor for that. During game play you will have to use your jaws cursor for making player changes, pitching changes, and that kind of thing. I hear there are real life driving games with wheels with a clutch, break, and gas pedal. I use a logitec wingman rumblepad. As the name implies the controller includes motors for force feedback. You need to install the software from the cd or internet in order for games to pick up on its force feedback qualities. It's a nice gimic but the rumble isn't very powerful. I got the controller cerca 2001. It looks kind of like a hybrid between the ps2 and dreamcast/xbox1 controllers - two wacky looking protrusions out front, 2 decent (if a little flimsy) analog sticks, 6 main buttons (which are a little small), a d-pad and a few other buttons for switching control from d-pad to left analog stick and back and toggling force feedback on/off. It isn't the best controller - I used to have a microsoft sidewinder whose buttons and dpad were a little more solid and big - but it's fun to use with games especially top speed. One advantage resultant of joystick use in-game is that you don't have to shut down your screenreader (and in some cases, you don't even have to have the game window in focus - I can play topspeed while chatting in an msn window though I won't be able to hear the other cars on the track). Re: [Audyssey] Help with a few things.
nice job. Well put. Lol - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Saturday, April 25, 2009 11:20 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Help with a few things. Hi Aaron, Ummm...no. The Apple II series of computers were made in the early 1980's long before such concepts as talking software synthesizers and screen readers existed for that matter. Quite frankly the hardware couldn't have supported them because the early Apple II models shipped with a wopping 1 MHZ processor and 64 KB of ram which was later upgraded to 128 KB of ram. So obviously a screen reader with a software synth, assuming you could even create one on those hardware specifications, would have completely used up all the system resources to run. So what we had for accessibility back in those days was an additional board, an Echo Vox, you iinserted into the machine that was able to speak what ever was presented on screen, and not very well at that. To give you an idea of what computers were like 25 or 26 years ago we need to look at how different things were back then. In terms of my lifetime it doesn't seam all that long, but in the life time of computers, as we now know them, it was an eternity ago. Especially, since most computer users today can't even remember a time when Microsoft didn't exist, but the Microsoft software empire was created and built up from the ground with in the last 30 years. Well within the life time of several people including me. 1983 Apple Computers were the leading PC manufacturer world wide. While IBM held the business market Apple became popular because of their affordable desktop computer systems for schools, homes, and for other non-business uses. The Apple II E was the most powerful PC on the market sporting a 1 MHZ processor and 64 to 128 KB of ram, and could be upgraded for more memory intensive applications. IBm was the world leader in business machines mainly producing large business computer systems such as network servers and mainframes. The leading business operating system was Unix. Microsoft who? Yes, as hard as it is to imagine today Microsoft was an unknown software company that set up in Bill Gates garage and who were still trying to make it to the big time. Microsoft only managed to get there by purchasing a PC operating system called QDOS from a private software developer who was trying unsuccessfully to get IBM and other mainstream companies to purchase it. Bill Gates gambled, purchased the writes to QDOS, and as it turns out it was the right business decision at the right time. It so happens IBM had been breaking into the PC market too, and Unix required to many system resources to run on their PC lines. So they put out the call to software companies looking for an OS that would run on their systems. In steps Bill Gates and Microsoft with PC Dos 1.0 in hand. IBM purchases PC Dos, licensing it from Microsoft, and suddenly Microsoft is rolling in money. What happened next was again the stuff of legend. Other companies such as HP, NEC, Packard Bell, etc came along and wanted to run Dos on their systems too. However, do to some licensing terms Microsoft couldn't give them PC Dos so Bill Gates pulled a fast one on IBM. He took PC Dos modified it here and there, added this, removed that, and released MS Dos 1.0. Bingo now the market was flooded with PC computers running Microsoft Dos, and Microsoft quickly went from a nobody to a household name. And that, boys and girls, is todays history lesson. Grin. yeah, it'd be cool. Great idea! - Original Message - From: "Che" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Saturday, April 11, 2009 12:50 AM Subject: [Audyssey] quick Blind Adrenaline update Hi all, Some of you might have caught my previous posts on my plans regarding using the X Box 360 controllers as well as the We remote in my upcoming fighting game. To that end, I've been working with XNA, the new game development platform from Microsoft along with the programming language C sharp for the past two weeks. Overall, I dig it so far. The XNA C sharp combination will allow me to integrate x box and wii controllers as well as the usual keyboard, joystick and mouse combination into the upcoming fighting game. I found a blu tooth device that most best buys sell that will allow the wii remote to work with a PC, and I've been playing around with it. Looks like we will be able to actually punch our opponents by punching, and block by ducking and so forth for those that want to invest in a wii remote. For those that don't, full force feedback will be incorporated into regular controllers, as well as keyboard and mouse support. I have found that I can use a wii fit board as well, which is kind of like a small balance board we can use to dodge in the game, squat down, jump back, etc. The possibilities are tremendous, including a possible excersize software for the blind. I have created a fairly simple helicopter simulation to test out the new controls, right now all you can do is fly it around some and land it, and if you land too hard it crashes, but it has possibility and I may release it for free for folks to play with if they like once I add a couple little things, maybe an enemy to shoot at or something. Anyhow, wanted to keep you guys updated on the progress. These new possibilities with the controllers, our proprietary online code as well as new XNA features should make the next generation of games from Blind Adrenaline a lot of fun to play. I'll keep you guys updated as progress is made. In the meantime, would anyone be interested in the helicopter simulation? Suggestions welcome, but future development will be limited, so I may put in a single enemy AI or maybe a mission to deliver cargo or something, but I won't have time to do anything very extravagant with it. Now I understand why is it that is difficult to translate them into key strokes. In fact, the mouse alone wouldn't be sufficient to do all those I think. Game controllers is the way to go. I hope you won't make it like wii boxing which is totally motion bassed. You know, we have 12 hours differences. If it is like wii boxing, I might have to exercise and sweat at 2 3 am over here. hahaha! Maybe I played mortal kombat a lot and got used to the way it works, I personally prefer a combination of both. What they does is, punch kick combos are done by pressing the d pad in a specific sequence whereas special power moves are pulled out by swinging the wii remote. Fatalities are done by swinging both the wii remote and nunchuck. I still can't constantly excicute the fatalities right yet. Ok, I am thinking very far ahead now, but consider this. the features of blood money already sounds as good as the mainstream fighting games. If it goes well, you might want to explore the possibility of hiring someone to add in graphics and make it the first title to be converted from accessible game for the blind to a mainstream game. 锦发/Steady Goh - Original Message - From: Che To: Gamers Discussion list Sent: Friday, March 20, 2009 1:36 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Blood money Online fighting Hi all, For now the working title of the online fighting game is Blood Money. This will probably change, but we need something to call it instead of Blind Adrenaline's online fighting game, hahaa. And yes, I know there was a game in the eighties called Blood Money, one of the better shoot 'em ups I ever played in fact. Anyhow, maybe this time the thread won't get hijacked by those to inconsiderate to change the subject line when they change the topic. Back to the game: Kel asked about the Wii controllers. Yes, from my research, we should have full access to the Wii remotes, including force feedback, sending audio to the remote itself and so forth, which should be an amazing way to interface with this and future games from Blind Adrenaline. When you get ready to do a roundhouse kick, you'll have to pull the nunchuck to you, while ripping the main controller in a rainbow shape at the same time, pull both controllers to your chest to block, etc. The possibilities are endless. It looks like using XNA will also allow me to include the use of the XBox controllers, which are amazing little devices, with two analog buttons on the front, analog sticks on the top and force feedback as well. In my opinion, these are the best non motion sensitive controllers out there, and being able to use them with accessible games will be awesome. Steady had some good ideas regarding tournament fighting, and it would be interesting to gang fight, so you would have two or three people trying to take out another two or three. This would add a whole new dimension to the game, but executing this would be tricky for sure. I'd like to do it, but we'll have to see how it goes as the game matures. Did some latency testing today, and everything is looking good, at least in the continental united states, I haven't done any testing over seas yet, but we'll be doing that soon. If you have any comments and suggestions for Blood Money, let me know, I am outlining everything over the next few weeks, and I'd like to get your input before coding starts so we make this the best fighting game out there. Which is a bit of a sticky situation for me. It so happens I have a more stable upgraded version of that game here, but I am afraid to release it to the public. Part of my agreement with the copyright holders was that I would no longer offer downloads, stop all sales, etc for that game. Thus the beta I was going to release to the public never got released and is sitting on my backup drive taking up space. If it were up to me I'd just release it as freeware, but even that might get me in trouble. Although, I've changed web sites since then so maybe they think USA Games is closed. Who knows? I have yet to find a solution for this issue and I've been looking in hundreds of forums. This greatly annoys me since I was planning on recording mk and sfiv reviews amung other things. I'd appreciate if anyone could answer the following questions: first, is there a fix for this issue I'm having? is it my soundcard acting up, or is it Vista itself? I've heard many rumors that vista doesn't support line-in and that it also lacks the ability to record both microphone output and stereo mix, so I'd like confirmation from people using other cards with vista. and second, do you guys know if this card supports surround sound? Thomas, I know you said the headphones have 3 jacks you c an plug into the card. only problem here is I only have a headphone jack, and another jack to the left which I presume is for the microphone. I'm using an internal mic so not sure about this, and the only time I tried plugging a microphone in there, the person I was talking to heard this loud annoying sound. This is a toshiba laptop btw. If Vista's the culprit, then I'll most likely uninstall it since all these audio problems are really getting on my nerves, not to mention the ftp issue I've been having which I mentioned on here months ago. still haven't managed to fix that either *grin*. so any help at all you guys can provide would be much appreciated as this computer's driving me insane. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Let's help M' out - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Tuesday, March 10, 2009 10:11 PM Subject: [Audyssey] MOTA and Vista 64 eddition Hello everyone, I've spent the passed couple of days trying to track down why Mysteries of the Ancients is crashing on systems running Windows Vista 64 eddition. I've got some good news and bad news on that issue. I'll start with the good news. The good news is thanks to some help from Che Martain and some extensive reading I found out why the game is crashing. Apparently the DirectX libraries were compiled using x86 as the target platform. What I didn't know is that when linking to these libraries it is a good idea to also compile my games using x86 as the target platform rather than using the generic any cpu target platform option. The reason is when installing Managed DirectX on Vista 64 it requires the 32 byt version of the .NET Framework, but because Mysteries of the Ancients was compiled using the any cpu target platform it was using the 64 byt .NET Framework. End result is a big crash. That's the good news. The bad news is I am currently using Visual Studio .NET Express 2008. The problem I am facing now is that Visual Studio Express will not allow me to change the target platform type of my applications. That feature is only available in Visual Studio Pro. Which means unless I get roughly $200 to upgrade Visual Studio to the Pro eddition I can not support Windows Vista 64 eddition at this time. I'm sorry, but until I can afford to upgrade I can only support the 32 byt versions of Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. One of the things I imagined when creating the Genesis 3D engine was a full virtual reality in 3d. Not just 3d audio, but an actual 3d environment as well. Personally, from my tests the best way to get the full experience is by using headphones, and if you have a set of 3d headphones the experience is even better. So I didn't really design the engine with speakers in mind although that option is still available of course. Imagine my future games like Tomb Hunter II etc sounding like Shades of Doom with, but in a true 3d environment as well. I guess what I am saying is it is hard to really do what the sighted game companies are doing such as 3d FPS style games and stick to a simple stereo format like MOTA uses. With MOTA that is fine since there is only really left and right to deal with. In other games you will have left, right, foward, backward, up, and down to deal with. That's considerably more to think about and a lot more to listen to. Also trickier to figure out as well. I use mp3's for music in my games, but other than that it is all standard wav files, allowing the end user to modify the sounds if they wish. Just this developers two cents worth. later, che - Original Message - From: "Scott Chesworth" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, March 09, 2009 1:20 PM Subject: [Audyssey] file format for MOTA sounds Hi Tom, Just had a thought, but I kept it on list in case it does end up grabbing you and other developers that might have more knowledge want to chime in. Been flicking through the sounds from MOTA and I realised you're using wave files for everything. I wasn't sure whether this was still going to be the case come the final release or not? It just occurred that now that you've started running multiple threads, using well encoded mp3/ogg/some other compression might not be a big resource hogg, but boy it would dramatically decrease the size of the overall download and instalation directory. As you know I'm only just beginning to fumble my way around writing code, so whether compressed formats would have to be decoded everytime they're triggered to play etc I have no idea. If that does turn out to be the case, it still might be worth considering having longer loops such as music and ambience as mp3's with actual gameplay sounds that're being triggered all the time still as wavs. Whether you end up making any changes to go with that or not, thought it was worth a quick note to point out to you that at the moment all the files I checked in the speech directory are in stereo. Lowering the sample rate of those as you have makes perfect sense and is a bit of a space saver, you can half the filesize of that again by using mono files. Perhaps you knew that already and it doesn't play ball with the engine in some way, but thought it was worth a mention in case you're not a big sound geek. Hi all, I am ramping up plans for an online head to head fighting game. At first it will mostly be a test bed for latency issues, so I can see what the limitations are for head to head combat over the internet. One idea I am picking at is the inclusion of The nintendo Wii controllers for the game. It is possible to use the Wii controllers via a blue tooth hookup with a PC. Having used these controlers on my Wii, I can tell you they are amazing. In the boxing game, the faster you punch with the controller, the harder your character punches. In Mortal Combat, you draw a pattern in the air with your controller to execute certain moves. All of this functionality is available with the PC port of the controller software. My question is, how much would the average blind gamer be into this? I think the draw to a head to head fighting game would be good, assuming lag issues could be worked out, but would the average gamer be willing to drop the $50 or so necessary to buy a controller and blue-tooth hook up? The possibilities for useing the Wii controllers is immense for accessible gaming, most especially for action titles. The balance board can be used as well, another $80 or so. Think of the ability to dodge your opponent simply by leaning, or run away from a monster by, well, running. Anyhow, it is an exciting concept, what do you guys think? Phillips SGC-2909 Review by Thomas Ward Jan. 21, 2009 Recently there has been a lot of talk about the new Phillips SGC-2909 game pad sold in many retail stores across the U.S.A. It sells on average for approximately $15.00 USD. As an owner of an SGC-2909 game pad myself I can say it is a fair price for this handy little game controller. So why all the talk? When you remove the SGC-2909 out of the packaging you will quickly discover it has a very intuitive design and is quite comfortable to hold for a long period of time. The device is 6 inches wide, four inches long, and has two handles on the bottom for holding the device. Each handle has rubber hand-grips that keeps the device from sliding around in your hand and also adds comfort in its use. In addition to its comfort value the SGC-2909 has a very nice layout of your basic game controls. Starting on the top-left corner you have a four direction POV controller. For games that support POV hat this control allows you to change the direction the player is looking or aiming in most modern 3D FPS style games. To the right of the POV controller is a circle of four buttons. Starting from the top and moving clockwise they are escape, mouse, analog, and select. On the right-hand side of the SGC-2909 we have a circle of action buttons. Starting from the top and moving clockwise we have button 1, button 2, button 3, and button 4. In most games these would be fire controls, run, jump, and other action controls. In the center of the SGC-2909, below the analog button, there is two joysticks labeled A and B. The A joystick moves your character around in the game world while the optional B joystick can perform special aiming adjustments etc. Finally, on the front of the controller is four additional buttons labeled 5, 6, 7, and 8. While these can be customized to perform any game action you want I find these make great fire controls as they are easy to reach and squeeze. Perhaps one of my favorite features of the SGC-2909 is the retractable USB cable that comes with the device. When you want to play a game simply pull it out, plug it in a free USB port, and start playing. When you are finished there is a little switch on the front of the controller which allows you to wind the chord back up inside the unit for easy storage. If you do a lot of traveling or just want to store it without the chord in your way you can retract the chord so that only three inches or so is sticking out of the unit at any given time. This is by far my favorite feature of the unit since I don't always keep my controller attached to a PC, and prefer to store them in a desk drawer or laptop carrying case when not in use. If everything I have said is not enough reasons to purchase a Phillips SGC-2909 the price is certainly right. For $15.00 to $16.00 you get a rather handy game pad that seams to work well with every game I've tried it with to date. So far I've tried Troopenum, Rail Racer, Mysteries of the Ancients, Shades of Doom, Puppy 1, and have encountered no serious compatibility issues. I think if you are looking for an inexpensive, intuitive, handy game pad the Phillips SGC-2909 is a good deal. Other game controllers such as the Logetec Rumble Pad costs approximately $30 to $40, and the only feature it has over the Phillips SGC-2909 is force feedback support. If you are willing to do without force feedback support the SGC-2909 could be right for you. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Anyway, getting too much feedback is one of the reasons I am waiting to release a demo. With Montezuma's Revenge and STFC I got a lot of feedback. In many cases I would work on a feature or suggestion I myself wasn't interested in doing, and as a result I became disinterested in the project. After all, you have been forced to do this stuff, although you would personally prefer to do more complicated and interesting games. Re: [Audyssey] beta of mysteries of the ancients
thatk you tom, I see your points - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2009 7:38 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] beta of mysteries of the ancients Hi Will, I certainly understand and respect your point of view, but there are other issues to consider here. First, right now Mysteries of the Ancients is currently alpha software not a beta. What that means in programmer lingo is a program functional for testing, but is known to have bugs and is not a complete program. Betas are more or less complete programs, but are known to have bugs. There is a big difference between an alpha and a beta. For example, Mysteries of the Ancients 0.4 alpha only has the first level complete. So even if you guys got it you would come to the end of level 1 and that would be it. no more levels. Of course I plan to add more in the coming days and weeks, but for now obviously the game is still lacking a large portion of the game. This is one reason it is only an alpha not a beta. Here is another case in point. Not too long ago one of the private testers tried saving a game. When the game didn't save his game he asked on the testers list why it wasn't working. I explained that while the Genesis3D engine has that feature it was currently disabled because I am currently rewriting or updating large portions of the engine itself. If you save a game and you try and load it using a newer version of the engine, like the one I am working on now, the saved game will get scrambled in the process. i don't want bug reports on something i already know needs to be fixed. Second, the Genesis3D Engine uses a different product key system than Montezuma's Revenge. That means bbefore everyone who paid for Montezuma's Revenge can upgrade to Mysteries of the Ancients I will have to generate a couple hundred keys, and process all of those orders. Given the amount of time I have had lately to devote to USA Games stuff it would take me a week to process all of those orders. Personally, I think I would be more productive just working on the game, trying to get a decent demo ready, than processing all 200 orders. Third, the Mysteries of the Ancients documentation is still incomplete. Yes, i know people can figure a lot out by playing around with it, but I believe before I release anything to the general public the documentation should be as complete as possible. By supplying good documentation with the demo i can cut down on the number of general questions people are likely to ask. Finally, Mysteries of the Ancients is currently undergoing some major changes. I am presently working on integrating a newer version of the Genesis3D engine into Mysteries of the Ancients 0.5. There are some extensive changes in the newer Genesis Engine such as SDL support instead of DirectX support. I've dropped support for DirectX in the newer Genesis engine not only to make it easier to go cross platform, but installing and setting up SDL is much much easier than installing and updating DirectX 9.0C. However, I've not yet done a lot of testing with the SDL based version of Genesis myself, and I have no idea exactly how Mysteries of the Ancients will perform until i do the upgrade. In a case like that it is better to do some testing with a small group rather than releasing a possibly unstable demo on the general public. If it turns out i need to downgrade to the previous release it is easier to work with 10 people rather than 150 people. where do I get this game? - Original Message - From: "Jason Allen" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Friday, January 02, 2009 7:30 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Entombed To target a specific part, hold down the key while pressing enter to attack the target. So you select fight, on that list of enemies, hold down the key, and press enter to attack. It will be targeted to that location. Be aware though that targeted attacks have lower accuracy, especially if you're targeting a fatal part like a head. The combat rounds don't go in round-robin order, they go by who is the fastest. This is why your pet wolf tends to attack before you do. It reacts faster. Some actions take longer than others. If you use the fighter skill Flurry, it will greatly increase the delay until your next turn leaving you vulnerable. Facing off against a fast dire wolf or something, it will have more attacks than you do -- at least until you boost your speed by leveling or magical means. If you happen upon an ogre, you'll probably find that you get many attacks to his one. You can have more than one controllable character in your party too. This will allow you to balance speed and power between characters. Right now, you're stuck with average human speed. So she checked the cord from the headphones to the computer and they were still plugged in. Then she pulled out the headphone cable and tested the speakers and no sound came forth. She next tried the volume up key on her keyboard and still nothing. Then she remembered the death key, and she pressed it and glory be, sound and speech was restored! What is this death key you may ask? For the blind it is the mute key. The computer's sounds stay muted even through warm and cold boots and can only come back to life when the key is pressed again. They work on Windows 98, XP, and Vista, as well as Mac OS X. They include: * Here Comes the Duck! Which teaches animal names and is maybe the only game playable by blind 2-year olds. * The Letters Game, Spelling Game, and Dictionary Game. Which teach your ABCs. * The Numbers Game, Numbers Plus, and Numbers Minus. Which teach numbers, addition, and subtraction. They cost $7 each, and are cheaper in the BabyBear and MamaBear packs. Hi, yeah, this is a point here. It depends on personal approach. You feel that the computer should be able to beat you even with your custom vehicle, I feel that even the quatro is a bit too slow for some tracks. If you want to beat your own times and records and have a technical challenge, trying to drive as fast as you can without crashing even with a very strong car on a very tight track such as Raly through the desert or the Two Towns Trip, you need something faster. I think Corola is still ok, the developers even consideret putting it into the game as an official vehicle when there was the contest for custom cars. I don't really mind the top speed of a car if it's not too much over 3 (it's non-sense to go any higher, in my opinion), but the car has to be ballanced otherwise - acceleration, deceleration, steering... After all, it's just up to everyone what they like and expect from the game. I feel that most of the tracks out there are a bit simple for me with the quatro, even at top speed where possible, so I have made the faster vehicles, such as the Corola, Flameblaster or Harley Davidson, which, I admit, is probably too unrealistic. The rest of the usable vehicles seems just a bit too slow, and the computer ain't a very skilled opponent, anyway. :-) That's just my opinions. These are my reasons why I would welcome the ability to race on multiplayer even with custom cars sooo much, as the quatro simply isn't absolutely enough for me. :-D By the way, if you want a real challenge, try the Corola in the desert and try to make a time under 4 minutes and 54 seconds. Of course, without crashing. :-) Lukas - Original Message - From: "Dakotah Rickard" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" ; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2008 3:51 AM Subject: [Audyssey] User-Created Top Speed Cars. i'm going to begin this thread with a brief apology. I mean absolutely no offense by some criticisms I'm going to end up making. I know that some of my cars have bombed, too. Also, if the developers see me making a mistake, please correct me. I'm doing math based on e-mails we sent back and forth about two years ago. I'm sure I'm misremembering something. A bit of background: If I remember right, the speeds of the car in units are however many units it travels in a second. Also, if I remember right, each track unit of length is about a half a centimeter. Therefore, a car that has a top speed of 26000, which I think is the speed of the Cuatro, moves 26000 times .5 centimeters a second, which is 468 kilometers an hour, which is about 291 miles per hour. I'm not entirely sure that my info's right, but we'll see, I guess. The comments I'm going to make won't really be affected if I'm wrong. Now that that's all done, I'm not going to go through every car or track and say what I do and don't like, because I haven't played all of them, and because that would take too long anyway. I will, however, make some general comments. The Cuatro is very, very fast. There have been cars that go faster, but they're very rare. I've seen many cars that have a top speed of above this level amongst the user-created vehicles. The Toyota Corola has a top speed of about 28000. This in combination with the fact that it stears well and accelerates fast means that no computer car could beat you under any circumstances unless you crashed. That, in my opinion, is the mark of a bad car, one in which the computer could not beat you. This doesn't, obviously, apply to fun cars like the Road Ripper, F18 Fighter, Light Speeder, Hover Demon etc. Other than it's high top speed, the Corola is a good car. If the Top Speed was reduced to, say, between 19000 and 22000, it would make sense. Top speed of a car isn't the only problem I see. People give their cars rediculus acceleration and deceleration values as well. A car should not be able to jump from 0 to top speed in like a second and a half. That just doesn't happen. That's one awesome thing about the light speeder. It is extremely fast, but you have to have patience to get it there. Many cars just jump to ludicrous speed and forget realism. Then, people give the car this rediculusly high stearing number. I don't know what standard is, but I'll use the Street racer for a measuring stick. It's stearing is at 215. I've see

One thing you may try to do is get something that will incript things and store them in a massive file, a ghost or something, those can be incripted at least I think so. You can also get something like drive xml, make an image then encript the xml, and then noone can access the data anyway. Another thing you could do was put your drive as another system, say linux system, people will try to get in by linux if they want to, there are encriptions in linux that may suit you better who knows. Not sure if this exists, but I wander if its possible in addition to windows and hard ware passwords and other things to get it so if you start a system that you get secured, that if someone enters the wrong info to many times if they try to guess the password that the system just locks up, ie windows does not boot. nothing works. Exactly four years after the first public release of Top Speed 1.1, an updated version of Top Speed 2 is available for testing. Top Speed 2.1 has some bug fixes compared to 2.0 aswell as some minor new features: the menu has been rearranged some new sounds, tracks and cars more realistic physics model support for custom tracks in multiplayer Known issues: In the menu, two sounds won't be playing simultaneously anymore, except in the local internet game selection menu, where this issue can still occur. The ReadMe contains some 'empty' sections. This will be fixed in the final release. Sometimes the game crashes when you leave the assign keys section of the options menu The X-Sight Interactive TS2 Utility Pack also could contain some bugs or problems. A special thanks to Damien Sadler for contributing the TS2Pack. Also a thank you for Arjan Tool, Melanie van Egmond, Axel Vugts and Florian Bijers for the initial testing. Re: [Audyssey] Klango Software Catalog - would you like to submit your software?

However I doubt they will want to get the player just to view a catalog, although the player seems to be almost a new os at least a shell. good work on it by the way. I'd like books to be avalible to on the website at least the downloads for them and search to, also would be good if at some stage in the future users could use their userid as some sort of email address on the site or maybe a msn passport thingy. keep it up. At 12:11 p.m. 27/09/2008, you wrote: Hi, I'm the one of the people who are responsible for the Klango Player, a new "accessible multimedia and community center". We would like to invite all developers to submit their software to a new Software Catalog we will be launching in a few days. Some time ago we tried to create a few audio games and other small programs for the "listening people", but after a year we already knew that reachability of the VI audience is the main problem of such activity. Because we didn't want to give up, we stopped making games and started designing a new software platform which could be used as an efficient medium for delivering (acessible) software and other interactive multimedia content to broader, worldwide VI audience. It took us almost two years to finish the first stage of the adventure. We are happy to announce that the final version of the Klango Player 2.0 will be released on 6th October. With a single download, and thanks to Player's simple user interface, even non-experienced blind users (not only geeks like you;) get easy access to the Player's functions and some additional Klango Programs (through a built-in install/update mechanism). Now, we are finishing the puzzle by adding the Software Catalog dedicated to all developers interested in publishing their software to the community. If it comes to the community, it grows everyday with new users from all over the world ...without any advertisement from our side. Even now, when the Player is online just for two months (as a beta), we have over 1000 users and each day hundreds of people log into Klango and have a good time with it (take a look at the forums). New language versions are being developped by users themselves ...and so on. So... getting back to the point of this email: if you're a developer and the Klango Community matches somehow your target audience, simply submit your software to the Catalog. :) It's a simple operation and you can be sure you'll gain a lot of new users for your applications. If you submit your app, it will be listed in the Player's menu and users will be able to download, install and run it directly from the Player with just a few keypresses. Of course, submitting aplications to the Software Catalogue is completely free. More detailed information about the Software Catalog and details of the submition process can be found in our Partner Panel, http://partner.klango.net. You have to own a Klango Account to enter the Panel, but we hope it's not a big problem for you :) Simply download the Player and create one. We suggest you to get the For Testers version, because it's almost up-to-date if it comes to various features. It's URL is http://setuptest.klango.net. You can also read more about the player at http://en.klango.net/readme/. Please note that the possibility of downloading your applications is not available in the current versions of the Player. If we recieve your submission(s) to the catalog (through the panel), we'll release a "final-beta" version next week to test how the machinery works in real conditions before we enter full 2.0. In a case of any questions, don't hesitate to contact us. Please use our support form at http://support.klango.net, it's the best way of contacting us.
