Re: Development question
Hi, I think you should go with your original plan and set a third field when both A and B has been set. Alternatively use the SET-CHANGE-FLAG to 1 whenever both fields have values. I presume taht by saying A is changed you mean ('A' != $NULL$), as this is a display-only-field? No. Since it can be used in filters. Mmm. I will explain deeper and more abstract. Imagine the next case. If field A is changed - No change If field B is changed - No change If field A and B are changed - It changes. So if i set disable change to both, the third option won't work. I was planning to add a third field and active link that changes it only if both fields A and B are changed. But looking for another ideas. Jose M. Imagine we have a form, where there is some display only field used to start some active link workflow. But if the user only changed this field I don't want that ARS consider the request as modified and then prompts the user to abandon changes when he closes the form. For instance a regular form with related forms. The related requests are shown in a table field. And some display only fields allow selecting the filtering of the table field. If someone changes the data of those fields to filter the table field and then closes the form, ARS prompts that if he abandon the form he will loose the changes. I have some ideas about avoiding it, but I want to know your opinion and how do you handle it. Thanks, Jose M. too many Migrator errors.
Dear all, I have been having some serious problems with migrator and would like to know from anyone how opted for some other product. It’s quite unbelievable that a migration fails for one form or some other object, then you fix it and try and migrate the same .migration file only for some other object to fail... so I am looking for something which will save me time and too much grief. I am still on 7.1 servers and tried various migrator versions (t.1 and above) but not luck Any thought will be very much appreciated. Re: too many Migrator errors.
We had similar issues with the 7.1 version. Also had issues with the migrations being extremely slow. After we upgraded migrator to 7.5 all of our issues seemed to go away. You may also want to try deleting the migrator cache and rebuild it. That has solved issues we’ve seen in the past. FYI, we did use the 7.5 migrator against the 7.1 server with no issues. Re: too many Migrator errors.
Frex, I am not sure if this will help but: 1)You may want to first run a difference report between your migrator file and your destination server (assuming you are exporting to a migrator file as your first step-can mitigate mistakes). 2)You then would migrate each object type that shows up in your difference report one at a time. i.e. AL's together, AL guides together. 3)Make certain you migrate objects in the proper sequence (i.e. migrate ALs before AL Guides, supporting form for data driven menu or table field, etc.) This way, you can easily narrow down the failed object and hopefully the error message gives you enough to go on. I would also make certain all the options are set to your liking in migrator. Hope some of this helps. You should enable SQL and/or API logging and then perform a restart to see where you are getting hung up. It could be some external DB link or something that ARS is getting hung up on if you have any integrations. William, I got the same issue on MS SQL on a remote server and find it very slow to start-up. Are you using FQDN (fully qualified domain name) for all server references within BMC? With a correct setup in you DNS servers it should not make a difference. I found that we had less issues and quicker startup if I used FQDN for all server references. Your RAM your your mid-tier sounds low to me. Bring it up to 4 CPU's and minimum 4 GB RAM. This make no difference in start up for the app server. ~ Terje Sent from my iPad On 1 Mar 2012, at 16:26, William Abdo william.a...@verio.netmailto:william.a...@verio.net wrote: ** Hi All, I am respectfully asking for your wisdom in an issue I am having. Re: too many Migrator errors.
I’ve had many issues with Migrator 7.6.4 for workflow. The quick explanation is that it migrates your code, but randomly drops permissions on Active Links and I seem to recall it caused some problems with View and/or Vendor forms as well. Unfortunately there was no indication that there were problems until we started testing the migrated code. My opinion is to stick with DEF files since that is a much more reliable technique. Re: Very Soon: BMC RD proactively Sharing and openly Interacting
This is awesome Matt! Jose, I definitely see your point. My thought is having it in a phone call format will provide a bit more of a dynamic interaction. For example I can post a discussion in the BMC Communities and there is a good chance I will get a reply from somebody at BMC. A response isn't guaranteed though. Now BMC obviously has the right to not answer a question on the phone but the expectation is you have their time right then and there and somebody will respond. If it will be anything at like the beta calls have been a BMC employee will take the task of following up on (appropriate) questions that could not be answers right then an there. In the Communities your question could go without a response. Aside from that it seems to me that text on a web page can't cover a topic quite as thoroughly as a voice conversation. It is great for listing step by step instructions but does not work quite as well for working out conceptual topics. Maybe the call can be recorded and posted to the Communities? Looks like your test case 1 2 a bug to me. To the best of my knowledge it should not matter if the 1005 field is not in any of the views or if its on any of the views and what the display properties of that field is. It should work.. Have you tried the same with a different version (preferably earlier) of the AR System? If it was working on earlier versions, then it could mean that the bug is 7.5 patch 3 specific. Re: Slow server starts
William, This could be a known problem with the ARS on a VM using Oracle as the DB.. By design, the AR Server is designed to read chunks of 100 records so the bottle neck is when its reading the display properties table which has over a 140 K records if you have all the ITSM applications installed on the AR Server. You could try taking startup logs of the AR Server when you are starting it up.. in order to do this, you would need to add the –t option to the arserver startup line in the armonitor.conf (or cfg if you are on windows) file.. You can put the –t anywhere on the startup line after the path. The startup log will be named arstartup_.log where is a Process ID number and will be found in the AR System directory.. Tail this file during the startup and you might be able to see the progress of its startup.. If there are any other failures other than the latency on reading the display properties meta data table, you should see it on this log.. Re: Mid-Tier, Advanced Search Bar Question
Axton, The team here has confirmed that there is a problem as Axton describe. The field did work correctly in earlier versions. It is not working correctly in at least the 7.5 version and it may not be in later versions. A bug has been created and is being worked in every code line under maintenance. This is a regression that was introduced. It is not a good thing that this was broken and not noticed. It will be aggressively worked. Work with the support team if this issue is causing problems for you and work through them for getting a hotfix to this issue. Re: Very Soon: BMC RD proactively Sharing and openly Interacting
I think BMC should host a one hour radio show where listeners could call in with their questions about AR System, Mid Tier, Workflow, Apps, Integrations, etc. with Doug Mueller and perhaps David Easter, Matt Laurenceau, or perhaps Lisa K (who did a great job on the 7.7 Beta calls), host the show kind of like a BMC Remedy version of Car Talk. Interestingly, this was brought up to me years ago but I wasn't sure I had the bandwidth for it. Now I am certain that I don't! :-) Phil Bautista President / CEO Bull Creek Data Corporation www.bullcreek.com Remedy Approved Consultant (RAC) 512-731-0304 -Original message- From: Jason Miller jason.mil...@gmail.com Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2012 12:25:16 -0500 To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Very Soon: BMC RD proactively Sharing and openly Interacting This is awesome Matt! Huerta
OOTB Web services and Infopath
Hey everyone. Has anyone been able to connect to a Remedy web service with Infopath? I'm trying to connect to the OOTB service called HPD_IncidentInterface_Create_WS. The idea is to create an Infopath form (likely more than one) that will simply take the fields and create an incident using the web service. When I add this service to Infopath, it gives the following error: InfoPath cannot use the selected Web service method to submit data because the method does not accept valid XML data Is this an Infopath issue or Remedy not working or the nut behind the keyboard? I've found a couple resources of folks trying to do this and never really heard an answer or solution. This is the most detailed I've found: https://communities.bmc.com/communities/thread/31385 I have Infopath 2007 but have access to 2010 if necessary. We're on 7.5 FWIW. Re : too many Migrator errors.
Thanks for the pointers.. I am migrating the objects in .migrator file I am only including the objects that are different from those in the target server...I am migrating forms and menus together in the same file and the rest of the workflow in another... so migrator should really workout the sequence effortlessly, at least thats what I read in the migrator manual... Problem I am having is that some form or forms fail... I fix the error and remigrate the forms again, then I get errors for other forms which didnt fail before and forms that in no way are related to the previous failed ones... I also get this with workflow... so you would think its all perfect only to find that other objects are failing in subsequent migrations(s).. So I am looking for some other tool which is tried and tested and which works... as to migrator, at the moment I only see more problems than solutions.. Regards frex De : Avy Mann avym...@yahoo.ca À : arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Envoyé le : Jeudi 1 mars 2012 17h19 Objet : Re: too many Migrator errors. ** Frex, I am not sure if this will help but: 1)You may want to first run a difference report between your migrator file and your destination server (assuming you are exporting to a migrator file as your first step-can mitigate mistakes). Hi Joe, The -t option has been applied to see what turns up From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Joe Martin D'Souza Sent: Thursday, March 01, 2012 12:46 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Slow server starts ** William, This could be a known problem with the ARS on a VM using Oracle as the DB.. Yes. Introduced first in AR System 7.6.03. Rich-text formatting in data fields You can add rich-text formatting (RTF) to character fields in browsers so that users can make changes to the format of text in a character field. For example, a user might want to italicize or center text. Additionally, you can allow users to add an image to a field with RTF by referencing a URL to an image. Re: rich text field
In 7.5.00, you could use the template based tooltip / view field feature to display formatted HTML - but it's not exactly what you're looking for, admittedly. From the 7.5.00 What's New: Text formatting template and rich text formatting Templates are a method of formatting text dynamically for presentation in AR System. The data included in templates is specified through parameters that the client workflow substitutes at runtime. Templates can be used to format text in tooltips and view fields. Templates are stored as HTML file attachments in the AR System Resource Definitions form, which enables you to store information about the template. A template is HTML code with parameters or field IDs. The template can be a complete HTML document (starting and ending with html and body tags) or a portion (snippet) of an HTML document (for example, a group of table rows). A template can be processed using either of these methods: * Create a Set Fields workflow action that uses the TEMPLATE function to place content into a character field or a view field. * Bind a template directly to a view field. Use this method when you do not need to calculate parameter values in workflow. Templates can be nested within templates, either by using workflow to generate content from a template with an HTML snippet and placing it into a hidden field, or by using the TEMPLATE function within another TEMPLATE function. A message action of the type Tooltip can display the HTML generated by an earlier Set Fields action. For more information about templates, see Chapter 10, Using templates, in the Form and Application Objects Guide. -David J. Easter Manager of Product Management, Remedy Platform BMC Software, Inc. Thanks Axton. I've not used NOT before. Your example does work querying the incident form, etc. But does not work on my vendor form (I said view form before, that's incorrect, my fault). Also 'field1' is a character field... 'field1' LIKE %/% -- works and returns the expected results. But I want the opposite. NOT 'field1' LIKE %/% -- no entries are returned. Re: query help
Tried NOT ('field1' LIKE %/%) --no go Tried (NOT ('field1' LIKE %/%)) -- no go I'll expand on my request a little. I have a vendor form reading active directory thru LDAP. One of the user's attributes is 'physicalDeliveryOfficeName' , some users have the value in this field as ABC/123 or ABC or AAA-123\123. On this field, I only want to extract what is to the left of the /. Therefore, I used the string: SUBSTR($physicalDeliveryOfficeName$, 0, STRSTR($physicalDeliveryOfficeName$, /) - 1) This query works fine, except when there is no / , then I don't get that record. Date conversion in Pentaho/Spoon
ARSListers, ARS Version: 7.6.04 SP2 MS SQL 20008 I'm learning Pentaho/Spoon (part of the new Atrium Integrator on ARS 7.6.04 SP2) and I'm stumped on how to get dates from a text file input to CMDBOutput. I'm following the sample from BMC. For example, my spreadsheet has a date in US format of 10/13/2007. It's in the text file input as a String type.I'm using the Select Values step to rename and format it. Using BMC's example I'm using the format of M/d/ hh:mm:ss . When I do this, the output fails with: Unparseable date: Sat Oct 13 09:00:00 PDT 2007 I've tried changing the format and selecting from the menus. No luck. I've tried changing the date format on my spreadsheet. I've tried dd/mm/, mm/dd/ and /mm/dd formats with and without time on my spreadsheet with various formats in the Select Values step. I get either the above error or Unparseable date: 10/13/2007 I think I've tried every combination and I'm still not succeeding in getting dates into CMDB. Everything else works great. I'm out of ideas. Anyone have any suggestions? Re: query help
Marcelo, The key topic here is that you are saying the form is a VENDOR FORM. Being a vendor form, the AR System passes the qualification criteria on to the plugin code that was written. That code is responsible for performing the query and doing the processing. So, the question is Does that code have logic that supports the NOT operation? Is this a vendor form supplied by BMC or one that a partner has written, or one that your company has written? Once you determine that, then you know where to go to get the answer about whether the code supports the NOT operation. As you can see, the operation and the syntax does indeed work (all permutations of the syntax as any parenthesis are extra in this simple query) when you are going to a regular form. That is because the NOT operation is fully supported for regular and view forms by the AR System server. What you will find in this situation (OK, I am only 99.9548694% sure that this is what you will find) is that the code of the vendor form does not support the NOT operation at all or is not doing something correctly for it in the case of this query. I hope this helps point things in the right direction, Doug Mueller -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Martinez, Marcelo A Sent: Thursday, March 01, 2012 3:13 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: query help Tried NOT ('field1' LIKE %/%) --no go Tried (NOT ('field1' LIKE %/%)) -- no go I'll expand on my request a little. Re: ARERR 514: Contents of the Status-History field in the flat file database are missing or invalid
Well, you gave no indicate of what you were doing or context of the message or version of the product or DB you are using or . So, no indication of anything other than an out of context error message. This makes it a bit difficult to help. But, the only place I have been able to find a reference to this error (the text is a bit misleading as it was originally used for a flat file DB case and was shared for this other use without fixing the text of the message) is when there is a query qualifier of some type that has a reference to a status history field and the syntax of the portion of the qualifier structure for the status history reference is incorrect. Now, if you were writing a API program and issuing a call with a qualifier, it would indicate that you have not correctly loaded the Status History section of the Arithmetic Operation Qualifier structure. If you are getting this at import time, it would indicate that the format of some qualifier (an active link or filter run if or a set field or push fields qualifier or ...) is corrupted. There is a status history reference and the format of the serialized representation of the qualifier cannot be decoded. If you are getting this at AR System server startup, it is the same idea as import but it means that one of the definitions somewhere in your metadata tables has a bad qualifier. If you are getting this somewhere else, it is an indication of something around the area where you are getting the error has a bad qualifier regarding a reference to Status History. Of course, the qualification could be messed up so that the system THINKS there is a status history reference but it is really some other corruption of the qualifier definition. Anyway, I hope this helps. It is hard to help further without context. Message in Error log and AR Server timeout
Hello Experts, We are on ARS and ITSM 7.6.04 and are facing an issue where we are finding the below content in the error log after which application goes into a timeout and users are unable to access Remedy, only solution is to restart the application. This is not happening at any defined time intervals, occurs sometimes when we have most of the users logged in and sometimes when only 1 or 2 of them are logged in. Only similarity we could find for all of these messages is that the user name appearing is not existing in Remedy but existing in AD (we have the LDAP integration done). However, there was were instances when the timeout occurred and the user name which appeared in the log was an active user in Remedy and at one instance, it also showed the user name as Demo. We have raised a ticket with support and looking from the LDAP/Authentication side of it, they are mentioning that this is a defect which has been fixed in ARS 7.6.04 SP2. But we are not very sure if this content in error log is occurring only because of authentication related issue as mentioned by support or could there be any other reason. Though we have raised a case with support, i wanted to know if anyone else has faced a similar issue and is upgrading to SP2 the solution for this and moreover, is this issue related to authentication itself. Would be great if anyone can help on this. Below content in error log is for a user who does not exist in Remedy and is existing in AD. This did not lead to a timeout, but there was slowness (almost inaccessible) in accessing the application for around 30 mins. Re: Message in Error log and AR Server timeout
Harry, If you're running an unpatched 7604 instance then you are probably experiencing common memory leak issues with that build. Unfortunately, the errors you see may be the result of the memory leak and not the cause. In order to capture it, you would need to run logging and hope to catch the offending code. It may just be easier to apply the SP2 patch. Re: Message in Error log and AR Server timeout
We reported this problem with 7.6.04.01 last summer and have been living with it ever since. The mid-tier caches incorrect login names or incorrect case login names that are passed to AREA LDAP, especially when people try to use the mid-tier with a mobile device that capitalizes their login, and then kills threads on the AR Server when AREA allows them in and they do not exist in the User table in that form (Jsmith versus jsmith). These incorrect or invalid account names are cached by the mid-tier, especially the ones where non-case-sensitive LDAP will authenticate them whereas case-sensitive ARS would not have. On the end of the next prefetch, the mid-tier throws them at the AR Server without passwords and they are in turn thrown at AREA and you get three or four thread crashes per account. I have seen the production mid-tier unusable for 30 minutes after a restart (a different mid-tier already connected is unaffected) as thread after thread crashed on the AR Server - exactly the same problem you experienced. Real high quality code, here; I don't think BMC ever tested the ehcache prefetching on systems with AREA authentication enabled. We also saw the same thread deaths when someone used an ipad to hit our Kinetic portal - invariably a capitalized version of their login name - so AREA would let them in, then Kinetic would halt them when it could not match their credentials (Jsmith != jsmith) and could not pull their customer data. We finally killed that off with javascript in the Kinetic login page that forced the login name to lower case; we may have to do exactly the same thing on the mid-tier login.jsp pages (anyone have a working snippet of code for that??). I am testing now to see if this is fixed in SP3; we identified so many fatal installer problems in SP2 (ARS, mid-tier, Atrium, ITSM - against ITSM Suite servers upgraded from 7.1/7.0.02) last November that I have refused to use it for ANYTHING ever since. This defect is definitely NOT fixed if you only update the mid-tier to SP3 and the AR Server is still on SP1; I tried that first. I only just today got a full ARS SP3 over SP1 install completed on a clone of production, with a local and remote SP3 mid-tier, so I should be able to tell if they really fixed it tomorrow. If not, then I'll give up and start forcing the login to lower case on each mid-tier. That will keep Demo and similar mixed-case system accounts out too, but that's what the User Tool is still essential for. SP3 does fix the date-range crystal report problem we reported last summer (must be SP3 on BOTH the AR Server and mid-tier), as well as the Firefox-Work Info-text box defect we reported at the same time, so _some_ issues have been fixed that have caused us problems on production for the last 7 months. I think they fixed the Migrator login timeout problem introduced in 7.6.04.00 and retained in .01 and .02 (they finally gave me a post-SP2 hotfix that worked) but I have to test that as well. I'll post an update tomorrow.
