Hi All,

I found and fixed the problem that Tom was having. Here is a link to the
updated script:

Hi Rick,

It's probably me but the script isn't working in my Framemaker 2022.
(I had to create the "startup" folder) In fact, when I apply the script the
document becomes 'blank': I know the actions I do are still applied but I
can't see them. Only when I close the document and I get the Do you want to
save-message, I see the document underneath...

Side note: since the start of July we have an activation issue with almost
all older Framemaker versions (Framemaker 2017, 2015,...). Our IT and Adobe
are 'looking into it'. But I can't test your script with older versions
right now.

Best regards,
Tom

Thank you Mike! The issue is the behind the scenes switch to the Adobe PDF
printer driver when the PDF is created. The PDFs are created on a dedicated
computer, so I should be able to solve it by changing the default printer
driver to Adobe PDF.

Hi All,

FrameMaker changebars work well in text, but it is difficult to put a
changebar next to an entire table. I have a free scripting solution that
puts a nice changebar along the whole height of a table. Please see my Store
page for a screenshot and download link. As always, feedback is appreciated.

2023-08-28 Thread rick
Hi Tom,

The script is failing and leaving you a blank screen. Try this: after you
quit and restart FrameMaker, open your document. Before running the script
choose View > Panels > Console. Run the script and when it fails, it should
write a message to the Console. Please send me the console message and I
will fix the script. Thank you very much for the feedback.

[Framers] Problem with Creating Tables with different TableTitles in FM via MIF file.

2020-05-03 Thread Orly Zimmerman
 HI Rick,
Yes, that is the code used, or some variation of it. It works if the file is
its own file (i.e. not split).
If the file is split into the MIF template being called from the MIF with the
text flow and Tbls then the table title is on its own (i.e. in FM I see "Table
1: " with no name for the table) - where/how does it get populated?

Here is a copy of the beginning of the Tbls code: ( I can supply the code, but
it's too long for here).

#orly Adding next line with Table Format-this is not needed if I don't need the
TableTitle populated. It pulls the format from the template MIF. If I copy the
table, it even numbers them correctly, but I can't figure how to get text into
them. The string below with the example Register Name doesn't show in FM.

#Adding Table Title
 # Forces lookup in Paragraph Catalog.
#even without this line, the table shows up in FM
with "Table 1: " as its title

> # end of ParaLine
> # end of Para
> # end of TblTitleContent
> # end of TblTitle
> #end of TblFormat

>
> # end of Para
> # end of CellContent
> # end of Cell

#... it goes on to end the rows and cells properly. As well as end the Tbls.

HI All,
I'm trying to create a simple MIF file that contains tables and can be read
via FM.
I need this structure for my engineers, so that they can export data in a
pre-defined table format.

So I have the structure of the table (basically copied the structure given
by one of FM's Sample MIF files (included with the FM installation)).
In any case. Then I actually read the MIF manual and was able to create the
table and a short body page by creating 2 MIF files.
 - One MIF file is used as the template file with all my
paras/chars/tables/variables/master pages/ etc defined. (It's very long)
 - The other MIF file includes for now, one table (it will include all the
tables in the Tbls) and the Text Flow. The table is built basically from a
table header and body rows. It has an "include ( template.mif) to call the
template file (so that this MIF file is "only" about 300 lines long and easy
for my developer to follows its syntax so that s/he can auto generate tables
from their database into FM - and the developer doesn't have to deal with
unnecessary defs). This will be used to create all the ")
and then define exceptions to the Table Format by giving the statement name
for the specific property and then redefining it. i.e. create a local
definition (instantiation) based on the Table catalog definition. (The MIF
manual gives an example of redefining the number of columns and then
adjusting their width - there is nothing about the table title property).
For some reason this does not work with the TableTitle. Any ideas why not?

Thanks so much,

block contains the sum of the number of rows you specify as First and
the number of rows you specify as Next. Depending on the number of rows,
the table may end with a partial block. In your case, you should specify
1 for both First and Next so that each block has 2 rows.  Then specify
Green as the color for First rows. It doesn't matter what color is
specified for Next rows as long as the Fill is set to None. Note that
the field labels may seem a bit confusing since "First" does not refer
only to the first rows in the table, but to the first rows in each block
and "Next" refers to the remaining rows in each block. You could define
more complicated problems such as 2 White rows followed by 6 Blue rows.
For more complicated patterns, such as those using three or more
colors, you will have to use Table > Custom Ruling & Shading.
You can also specify a color for header and footer rows, but all
rows in both header and footer will have the same color.

Open a blank, Portrait document and insert a Shaded Blue table. Click in the

The Table Designer Shading tab seems to want to make all the rows the same

Re: [Framers] Runaround properties for tables in FrameMaker?

2019-05-22 Thread Peter Kelly
Thanks for the answer. A student of mine wanted to be able to do this to use up
white space. I don't think it's worthwhile really to insert tables into text
boxes since that would disturb the automatic flow of text before and after the
table.

You can't do that using table properties. You could if you created a text frame
and inserted the table inside the frame. If you have standard table
configurations that take up the same space on the page, you could probably save
a text frame somewhere, copy and paste it in, then insert the table.
Or Silicon Prairie has the Autotext plugin which would let you set it up in a
document and insert as needed, frame and table at the same time.

Why are you trying to do this, btw? Is it because your tables aren't as wide as
the page so you want to take advantage of the blank space?

Place a text frame in the text flow, and set the run-around properties for

[Framers] Runaround properties for tables in FrameMaker?

2019-05-10 Thread Peter Kelly
Hi Framers,

Have always had good advice from you so am out to test my luck again. Is there
a way of specifying runaround properties for tables? Whenever I have a table in
a main text flow, I am not able to make text runaround the table. I've only
been able to make text precede and follow. Creating a two column layout for
this just seems like a lot of work that would not be re-used. Any advice is
appreciated.

There is a double "dotted" line used in tables in a template that I inherited.

If you open Custom Ruling & Shading and click Edit Ruling Style, you can create
a new or edit an existing style. In this template, the Color is Black, the Pen
Pattern is 30%, the Width is 0.5 pt and Double-Gap is 2.0. I think the Pen
Pattern is what does the trick

You know, I don't think I've ever noticed before that you can't use dotted or
dashed lines for column or row borders. I guess because I never had a need to.

You know, I don't think I've ever noticed before that you can't use dotted
or dashed lines for column or row borders. I guess because I never had a
need to. Interesting.

Re: [Framers] Tables - shading and ruling etc

2018-08-22 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Caroline, consider purchasing the very inexpensive TableCleaner
plug-in that Rick Quatro built to strip out all of the Word
formatting on tables and applying the defined table styles. It won't
help with shading, but it will certainly make it far easier to
predictably apply formatting to the table.

You can get the plug-in here:
http://www.frameexpert.com/store/index.html. I am not affiliated in
any way; I'm just a very grateful user.

Hi,

I am finally converting user guides from Word to Frame 2017.
The conversion went very well, however, the user guide I received has many

I have not yet decided whether this is the best way to document, but this
is how the guides are set up.

In Frame is there a way to add ruling or shading to a particular cell.

Is it worth trying to copy all of this, as these changes need to be done

[Framers] Conditional Text Rows Outlined in FrameMaker Tables

2018-04-04 Thread Tony Marek (PDF)
Hello Framers – I’ve had this annoying issue for a long time. I’m currently
using Frame 12.

If I mark a row in a Frame table as conditional with a specific tag (e.g.
“ACME Corp Only” tag), and then publish with that condition displayed, the
result is always a very heavy outline around that table row, in the color
of the condition tag. So, if I publish an ACME Corp Only book with tables,
then for the table rows with that conditional tag, there is an extra-heavy
border around the row. This border displays in the color of the tag, no
matter what my other display options are. And the anomaly prints to .pdf or
other outputs, so the end-user gets to see this confusing heavy border
around certain rows. Setting row/column borders to “none” does not
eliminate this conditional border. Do any of you know a way around this
feature/bug? This issue has been around forever. The whole point of
conditional content is to have it displayed or hidden without any visual
cues that it’s conditional (unless you want them).

Thanks,

For about a week or so, FrameMaker crashes when I'm working in a table (not the
same table; any table). When I relaunch, the same thing happens. I've saved to
MIF and opened that and that usually fixed the "corruption" (for lack of a
better term), at least for that table. Sometimes I need to restart my system to
get FM to launch again.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm on FM 2017, 14.0.3.500, Windows 10.

Any help will be appreciated.

I hope FM doesn't need to be reinstalled because I would have to leave my
computer with them.

So, after updating Frame and rebuilding the book, the Responsive HTML 5 output

Thanks.

Well, in that case, my tech-support-troubleshooting mindset suggests that if
converting individual files works correctly, and converting books of files
doesn't, then there's likely a bug in the book-processing code.
Probably something like assuming that storing an early determination of an
object's property can speed the overall process by reusing that definition for
subsequent instances of that property.

It's worth reporting it as a bug. Of course, this won't fix the problem in the
near term, so perhaps you could investigate processing the set of FM files
individually with a script, or fixing the outputted HTML5 code to correct the
conversion errors.

[Framers] FrameMaker Tables in Responsive HTML5

2017-08-31 Thread Ben Anderson
Hello All,

I have a FrameMaker (2017 Version: 14.0.0.361) book with about 24
sections/chapters and roughly 100 or so tables throughout. Some of the tables
have shading (i.e. blue header rows) and some have no shading at all. When I
convert the book to Responsive HTML5, the blue color seems to "bleed" into
other columns and rows even in tables that have no shading at all. If I output
each file individually to Responsive HTML5, there are no problems. The "bleed"
issue only seems to happen when I build the book and output the whole book
file. Under "Style Mapping" I have the tables set to [Use Source Style]. If I
map the Frame tables to a corresponding Responsive HTML5 style, I'm assuming
I'll lose my Frame formatting, which I would like to avoid.

I've used FrameMaker before, but this is my first time outputting to Responsive
HTML5, so any information would be great.

Thanks!

It should be simple... Insert cursor -->Table-> Format -> Row Format ->

2017-01-06 Thread Rick Quatro
Before I forget, I am using FrameMaker 2015. I checked and
RemoveExtraWhiteSpaceOnXMLImport is On. Thanks for the suggestion.

Apparently, it is the way the original xml is "formatted". If I change this:

January 1, 2017
$10.50
$10.00(current rate)

To this (the whole ... one one line):

January 1, 2017$10.50$10.00(current rate)

I no longer get the extra white space. Note that with the former, I was only
getting the extra white space inside the first but not the other two.

I can get the desired result by using

in my stylesheet, but in my opinion, FrameMaker is being stupid with this
behavior. There is no reason it should put the extra white space in the first
column. Thanks.

Problem with auto numbering Figures and Tables

2014-10-23 Thread Thomas Scalise
Esteemed colleagues,

I am running Frame 11.0.2.384 on Windows 7 Professional. I have a book with 5
chapters that contain figures and/or tables. The book pages are numbered
consecutively from 1 to 60+. Since I am not using folio page numbering, I want
the Figures and Tables to be numbered consecutively as they appear in the book.
I cannot get the numbering to work. It resets to zero in each chapter. I have
created books like this before with no problems. This book is a problem child.
I assume that there is some hidden misstep but I am at a loss. Any suggestions
and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Problem with auto numbering Figures and Tables

2014-10-23 Thread Syed Zaeem Hosain (syed.hos...@aeris.net)
Pardon my asking some questions that you may already have looked at:

1. Did you mean that you want the figure number to depend the previous
figure number _and_ previous table number (and vice versa)? I am not sure how
that works.

If independent, meaning Figure X is followed by Figure X+1, regardless of any
intervening tables, then as I understand, each type of item (i.e. table and
figure) has its independent counter ... so the table counter paragraph number
will be taken from the previous table, for example.

As long as the following is true:

2. Have you verified that _each_ chapter file (I am assuming it is a
separate .fm file) has its File-Numbering-Paragraph check-box value set to
Continue Numbering From Previous Paragraph In Book?

I am not sure if the above is the specific cause of the problem you have though.

Automated cross-reference format content (for reference to tables in paragraphs)

2014-10-23 Thread Syed Zaeem Hosain (syed.hos...@aeris.net)
Hi, all.

I was wondering if there is a way to achieve something, but I am not seeing a
good (and ideally simple) way to do so.

Essentially, within a body paragraph, I want to be able to say (in the middle
of other text, of course):

-' ... Table XX, Title of Table, ... ' when the paragraph and the
table caption are on the same page,

-' ... Table XX, Title of Table on Page YY, ... ' when the paragraph
and the table caption are on different pages.

I already have two cross-reference formats that I use for this purpose, but it
is not automated. Meaning that if the paragraph and caption start out on the
same page, I use the first format and the second format when they are on
different pages.

But, as I add and remove and delete and edit text - all normal work - in other
locations of the document (typically before this reference, of course), the
paragraph and caption could get separated onto different pages.

And, then I have to go and find the cross-reference and switch it to the other
format manually. In a long document, this is also prone to error.

I have tried using only the second format exclusively, but it looks quite silly
to refer to the page when the table title is right there on the same page! :(

I have also tried the above and below constructs for the format, but don't
like them as much - they are not useful (for similar look silly reasons) when
the table caption and paragraph slide onto different pages. Because, I feel
that above and below ought to refer to material on the same physical page.

So, I'd love to have a way to automate this as I edit document, meaning that
the format should added the on Page YY automatically if and only if they
reference and the table are on different pages. All on the fly, so that I don't
have to think about it! :)

Any thoughts?

Z

P.S. Conceptually, I am also looking for another similar thing ... for adding
This Page is Intentionally Blank when there is nothing on it ... but that is
less critical.

RE: Automated cross-reference format content (for reference to tables in paragraphs)

2014-10-23 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Z,

This could certainly be done with a script (ExtendScript for FrameMaker 10
and higher; FrameScript for all versions). You could run the script manually
at the end of your editing process, or you could have it run automatically
when you open or print a document, similar to when cross-references are
automatically updated. Or, it could be run automatically on save. If you
want to pursue this further, please send me a sample document and I will
tell you what is possible and a cost. Please let me know if you have any
questions or comments. Thank you very much.

Re: wrapping DITA steps in tables

2014-10-21 Thread Scott Prentice

Hi Rebecca...

I'm not aware of a way to do this via EDD .. I think scripting or a
plugin is your best bet. I do have a plugin called StructureSnippets
that (among other things) will let you wrap a specified
element/attribute in a predefined structure (like a table). I'm not sure
how you'd use it to wrap two cells though .. perhaps multiple passes
over the content? You could also use FrameSLT from West Street
Consulting, which (also among many other things) lets you wrap
elements/attributes in other elements. Both of these plugins can be run
programmatically. However, your best bet may be to write some script
that does exactly what you want.

Remember that however you solve this, you should be able to add the
calling script into the DITA-FMx book-build process so that the
processing is done as part of the map to book creation process.

Hmm .. you *could* do this via XSLT. In theory you should be able to add
a template to the bookmap2fmbook.xsl file, which is run as part of the
default DITA-FMx book-build process. Depending on the programming skills
at your disposal, either ExtendScript or XSLT should be able to get you
where you're trying to go.

Cheers,

Hi everyone

When we publish PDFs from our DITA source files, we want to put our tasks in

I think that means we want to change the steps element into a 2-column table,
such that every step becomes a row. Text from the cmd element would go into the
first column, and text from the info element would go into the second column.

Is it possible to do this through the EDD (or the read/write rules)? Or is
there a plug-in that'd do it? I've poked at the EDD syntax but I couldn't see
anything likely. If not, we'll do it through a script, but I wanted to check
with people here before going down that path.

We're publishing through DITA-FMx, in case that makes a difference.

Thanks very much

Re: wrapping DITA steps in tables

2014-10-21 Thread Jang F.M. Graat
Hi Rebecca,

As you need to produce PDFs, you do need the result of the transformation in
FM. Changing the EDD is not an options, as that would take you out of the DITA
standard (and changing the DITA EDDs in FM is almost impossible to start with -
I tried and it really is horrible).

Using scripts in FM to change the DITA steps into table rows has the same
problem, as it will invalidate your DITA sources. You could do this but you
would have to completely convert the task into a reference topic. That is a
major difficulty and should be avoided as well.

This leaves you with one possible scenario: do the transform using XSL when
preparing the materials for output to PDF. You can use the standard read-write
rules in FM to write the DITA files to XML and read them back. Then add an XSL
transform to the import from DITA XML which transforms the steps into table
rows. This will leave you with non-standard XML looking like DITA, but as this
material is only created to produce a PDF and not for further editing you
should be OK.

Note that this transformation has to be done after all other steps in
processing the DITA materials (i.e. resolving conrefs and links etc.). It
should be the last step before producing the PDF, as the materials will not be
valid DITA anymore when the XSL transform was done.

If you have any questions or need help in getting this to work, drop me an
e-mail.

Kind regards

Jang

Re: wrapping DITA steps in tables

2014-10-21 Thread Wim Hooghwinkel - idtp
Hi Rebecca,

interesting question. Theoretically it should be possible to 'translate’ the
steps element into a FrameMaker table, for presentation, just like we do with
the properties element.
It would put some heavy constraints on your content however, as each step must
have exactly one cmd and one info element.

You’ll need to adapt the read/write rules and the EDD. I just did a test and it
seems to work. Look at the constructs for the property element in the reference
rules and EDD to see how you can set it up. This what I’ve got in the rules
file:

  /* steps */
element steps {
  is fm table element;
  fm property columns value is 2;
  attribute props is fm property column widths;
  }

fm element fm-stepsbody unwrap;
element step {
  is fm table row element;
  fm property row type value is Body;
  }
element cmd is fm table cell element;
element info is fm table cell element;

(note: I used default FM DITA, not DITA-fmx yet)(note: I left out the table
heading ….)

To make it work in the EDD I made steps to be Element (Table), where general
rule is fm-stepsbody.
Then fm-stepsbody has step+ and step (Table Row) has cmd, info.
cmd and info are both Table Cell.

Actually, in a task topic this works like a charm and is a perfect template to
make 'clean' tasks.
Using (cmd, info) as the general rule for step makes inserting and adding steps
very easy.

In the WYSIWYG view I can see a table, while in the XML view I can see the
correct steps xml code.

Thanks for the suggestion ….

Then

Thanks very much! I’m impressed.

I’ll have to think about the restriction of each step having exactly one cmd

wrapping DITA steps in tables

2014-10-20 Thread Rebecca Officer
Hi everyone

When we publish PDFs from our DITA source files, we want to put our tasks in
tables.

Thanks very much
Rebecca

automatically add it where you want. Have you tried it?

I have. It did not work. The n-b space character appeared at the right
margin, while the pilcrow remained at the left margin. When I placed the
cursor ahead of the pilcrow and inserted the text inset, there was no
character between it and the pilcrow. Updating the inset triggered the
formatting bug.

Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Main reason AFAIK is what happens to the text holding a table anchor when
FrameMaker moves the table to the next page: some of the para holding the
anchor is dragged there too, leaving excess white space at the foot of the
preceding page.

There are many ways around this, but most of them become easier to manage if
the table anchor lives in its own para.

I like to use my cursor keys to scroll from table to table, and putting
each table anchor in its own paragraph lets me do that. If they're all on
the same line, pressing the up or down arrow once pops you to the beginning
or end of all of the tables that are anchored in the same line. I do a lot
of documents with hundreds of tables that are one right after the other, so
having an anchor anywhere but on its own line becomes a nuisance.

Putting all the anchors in the same line also makes it much difficult to
select just one table, since unless you are VERY disciplined about putting
a space between them, FM drops the anchors on top of each other. And
(again) if you have a lot of them, even using just a small space between
can make the anchors wrap to another line (or three or four), which messes
up your spacing all over again but for a different reason.

Re: Insets and Tables: container paragraphs with no additional spacing

2014-10-02 Thread Lin Sims
For the registers, we list all the table names as active links in a table
upfront. But if I am simply scanning through the tables, I find it easier
to use the cursor button than the mouse wheel. Your mileage may, of course,
vary. There are also places where a brief paragraph introduces a set of
tables. The data wouldn't work well combined into single table, and I'm not
about to say, The following table describes X when I've already said it
up above. It annoys my engineers and the customer engineers.

If I were in a different environment producing docs for a different
audience, I would very likely be introducing each table with some text. In
this environment, with this highly technical audience, it is neither
necessary nor wanted.

Re: Insets and Tables: container paragraphs with no additional spacing

2014-10-01 Thread Mike Wickham

Stuart,

I haven't had need to work with text insets, but I'm wondering if you
can shorten your procedure by inserting the non-breaking space into the
autonumber format for the InsetAnchor paragraph format, and setting its
position to End of paragraph. It seems like that would automatically
add it where you want. Have you tried it?

Mike Wickham

On 10/1/2014 4:38 PM, Stuart Rogers wrote:
For insets (harder to maintain, depending on inset content), create a
pgf tag in the container document, e.g., InsetAnchor:

Font Size: 12 pt
Color: (something other than black)
Spacing Above Pgf: --12.0 pt

In the inset source document, create a variant tag based on the last
paragraph of the inset (e.g., BodyInsetLast as a variant of Body):

Spacing Below Pgf: --12.0 pt (negative 12 points)
Apply that tag to the last paragraph of the inset.

In the container document, create a new empty paragraph where you want
the inset to go.

Tag the paragraph InsetAnchor.
In that paragraph, type a non-breaking space (to overcome the bug that
reformats the paragraph on updating the inset).

Place your cursor just before the non-breaking space and import the inset.

You can open each Word file in Frame,

  Yes,
TableCleaner is absolutely indispensable when you're
importing complete Word documents that contain tables into
FrameMaker. I couldn't do without it.

But for bringing in a single table (which I believe was

convert-to-text-before-copying method. In my experience it
is quicker to apply clean formatting to the cells of one
table that was built from pasted plain text than to fix
all the Word-ness of a table that was pulled in as a table
even if you have a tool that does most of the work.

RE: Word Tables to Frame 12Tables

2014-06-18 Thread Fred Ridder
Because the Word and FrameMaker table models are fundamentally so different, I
find that it is best to only import the content and nothing relating to the
tableness. From Word, first use the convert table to text command, then copy
the tab-separated table contents. Paste the text into Frame and then use
convert the table to text command to create a table with the appropriate table
format applied.

If you bring a Word table into Frame as a table, it coes along with a bunch of
properties that you then have to get rid of, like the custom ruling and
shading flag being set for all cells in the table and the heading row not
working properly.

Also do yourself a favor and make sure that the Word table doesn't have any
merged cells. If you are using my text-only method, you'll have an unequal
number of cells in some rows. Or if you're bringing it in as a table,
FrameMaker's equivalent functionality (straddle) works *completely* differently
under the hood, and the import operation won't correctly figure out how to
reconcile the two.

I find that it is best to only import the content and nothing relating to
the tableness. From Word, first use the convert table to text command,
then copy the tab-separated table contents. Paste the text into Frame and
then use convert the table to text command to create a table with the
  appropriate table format applied.

RE: Word Tables to Frame 12Tables

2014-06-18 Thread Keith Soltys
I will second that recommendation. Rick’s TableCleaner is an essential tool if
you have to import tables from Word and it has other useful features which make
it generally useful in any FrameMaker installation.

RE: Word Tables to Frame 12Tables

2014-06-18 Thread Fred Ridder
Yes, TableCleaner is absolutely indispensable when you're importing complete
Word documents that contain tables into FrameMaker. I couldn't do without it.

But for bringing in a single table (which I believe was the original query),
I'll stick with the convert-to-text-before-copying method. In my experience it
is quicker to apply clean formatting to the cells of one table that was built
from pasted plain text than to fix all the Word-ness of a table that was pulled
in as a table even if you have a tool that does most of the work.

Re: Fm10 Tables and Change Bars

2014-01-29 Thread Chris Coggins
This cell padding idea worked ok to accomplish what I need. But I had to
set top at 3pt and bottom at 2pt, anything less caused the bars to rejoin
as one. I tried to compensate for the added vertical growth by adjusting
line spacing and font size, but couldn't exactly match the rows per page
that I had before.

BTW, for the other replies to this issue: I'm in unstructured frame, and my
initial workaround was to draw individual lines beside the rows. It was
tedious but worked ok for that delivery. Glad to figure out an easier
solution for the next go around.

Although now that I think about it, it may depend on how the table format
is set up as far as cell padding is concerned. If all the vertical space
around cell contents is provided by the paragraph's space before and space
after rather than cell padding, FrameMaker may treat consecutive rows as a
continuous block of paragraphs. My tables all use cell padding, and the
change bars are only as tall as the paragraph(s) that are marked inside the
 changed cells.

anyone know how to force Fm10 to do this? I've used tables before where
this was possible, but do not know which settings to adjust to make my
current table's change bars behave similarly.

I tried putting a paragraph return at the end of the text in a cell, then
changing it to be a run-on punctuation so that the row doesn't grow. Then
selected the changed text in another cell to apply the change bar, but it
doesn't work. Once I mark 2 consecutive rows that way, the two change bars
join and form only one when the display is refreshed, even with the hidden

Unusable is a subjective term. To a programer it may be useful. But to
non-programmers who dabble in programing (like me and many others), an

but a complicated, object-oriented program language that is not well

ExtendScript is so powerful that I found it unusable for FrameMaker.
If it were properly documented and Adobe provided useful sample code for
automating common tasks it might be great. I think they provide those for
some of their other apps.

However, in FrameMaker I prefer FrameScript. More control

Some time I will explore ExtendScript. I'll see.

Script to convert tables to paragraphs

2013-11-27 Thread Reng, Dr. Winfried
Hi,

Now and then I use AutoHotkey. Also very easy to use.
However, in FrameMaker I prefer FrameScript. More control
what will be done. (I am not a programmer.)
Some time I will explore ExtendScript. I'll see.

Best regards

Winfried

Script to convert tables to paragraphs

2013-11-26 Thread Yves Barbion
Hi group

I'm looking for a script which does the following:

1. Find tables with a specific table tag, for example graphic_table.
2. Convert those tables to paragraphs (row by row).

Anyone?

Thanks in advance

Attached is an AutoIt script for this.
AutoIt is a free scripting language for Windows. It's very easy to
write AutoIt scripts for easy things like typing shortcut keys.
You have to download and install AutoIt in order to run this.

Below is the script as well, but it has to be in a text file with
a .AU3 extension in order to run it. You can see how simple it is.
And I added a lot of comments to make it easier to understand. If
you need more info, let me know.

Maybe one day I will get into ExtendScript, but AutoIt is so much
easier and more pleasant to use that it's worth considering.

Re: Script to convert tables to paragraphs

2013-11-26 Thread Jim Owens
AutoIT is a powerful scripting language, and it comes with good
documentation. It's intended to act as a surrogate for a human, by
detecting screen or window activity and sending mouse or keyboard
responses, but it's also very good for general-purpose programming.

It includes the ability to compile your AU3 program to EXE, so that you
don't have to start up the scripting environment to run the script.
