Re: [Audyssey] Questions about Top Speed 2 and 3
Hi. the only alternative language pack I know about is another English pack that I did. Shout out if anybody wants it. Sent with Thunderbird 3.1.10 portable. And my other two questions are related to Top Speed 3 exclusively. The first one is, if someone will create some car and track creation tools like for Top Speed 2 or if such tools already exist. And the the second thing is just something I am wondering about and that is the apparent lack of any publicly available language packs for the latest title at all... Are there only English speaking players novadays or is it taking so long to do a translation in any language now? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi. Yeah, now that you put it in that light, talking about protecting others from potential copywrite infringements puts things in a new light too. Sent with Thunderbird 3.1.10 portable. On 8/23/2011 2:27 PM, Thomas Ward wrote: Hi Valiant, That kind of modding is understandable. Obviously lowering music to make the menus more understandable or raising the volume of a sound to make it a little louder is perfectly fine. You have a problem hearing and modding a game to make it easier to play isn't an issue for me. Its the other kind of modding that bothers me. For instance, not long ago someone mentioned they were creating a Star Wars mod for the game called Order 66, and asked if I could do something to make a light saber loop. In other words could I modify the game to support his mod. The answer was definitely no, because I'm creating a game on par with Tomb Raider, Indiana Jones, Rogue Angel, or something else in that genre and someone is happily converting my game into something completely different than what I had intended. Not only that he wasn't even aware of the fact the license agreement specifically forbids modding of that kind. The other issue we get into when talking about modding is copyright issues regarding sound effects. I have to pay royalties for the sounds and music I use in my games. So the sounds that ship with a game are provided under legal license for that purpose. However, if someone rips all the sounds from say Tomb Raider and creates a mod and redistributes them he/she could be held liable for redistribution of copyrighted material and/or copyright infringement. While I'd love to just drop the sounds of Lara Croft etc into my games that's not really legal, and anyone who does it is taking a legal risk. So by not allowing people to mod a game I not only protect my product I protect people from taking the risk of modding my games with illegal sounds and music. Cheers! On 8/23/11, Valiant8086valiant8...@lavabit.com wrote: I have some food for more thought on this discussion. That is, with certain games, I have to mod them in order to play them. That is, with my hearing problems, sometimes I need to silence a crowd or turn up a beep sound. Sometimes I have to turn down music in a menu where many developers seem to forget to allow it to be turned down or off. I'm not trying to argue against the prevention of modding, just wanted to throw that out there for people to know about. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy.
That's a pretty good idea, and I will keep it in mind. I've got a few ideas that I think would be cool as multiplayer options, but I'm worried about adding them since it would divide the playerbase. There are only so many people playing multiplayer, the number seems to be growing though, and if there are even only 2 modes that means there is suddenly only half as many people playing each mode. I don't want to thin the players out so much that no mode has enough people to be fun anymore. As the number of online players grows, it will be nice to add new features. Ok, it's cool to be able to pass troops back and forth, but how about a common enemy pool. In other words, raids you send out would affect others playing as well. To balance this, the enemy would have to be growing all the time, even when only one person was playing. This would be hard on single players, but you could modulate the growth, based on the levels at which people were playing the game, so that if three people were playing on normal, the enemies would grow more slowly than if three people were playing on hard. This makes cooperative play even more interesting, since it demands that everyone participate in raiding in order to keep everyone safe. Looking forward to trying out the 2.0 version. Hi s p o i l e r s p a c e Once you've destroyed the 3 bases and all the tanks, check your mission is complete with f2 then head for the river and the bridge. You should hear it say Artillary once you hear that line up with it, to do this use your x key and if the beeps for artillary sound dead ahead, use your tab key until you're linned up. Be careful you don't hear the bridge mentioned too with the tab key, if so you could destroy it by fireing on it. What you have to do is move backwards slowley until you just hear artillary with the tab key, even if you don't hear the targeting system you can still shoot him, so if it says artillary 74 metres then ajust your range with your shells accordingly and shoot it, then check with your tab key and you should hear it tell you there is now burning equipment. After that just head for the bridge and accross it to the town, then you've completed it. Re: [Audyssey] Why I want older versions of the games
yes, I must confess that's why I always shorten it to shades, sinse sod is indeed a sware word in England, and especially in the midlands. it's always a litle weerd to me to see a game referd to as something my mum says if she spills her tea ;D. Then again, this is just another words issue. if for instance in castaways JEremy were to include firewood counted as faggots of wood which would be completely correct according to the english meaning of the word, (there is that section in lotr when Boromir advises the group to all cut and carry faggots in order that they have some fuel in the high pass of Karadhras), I'd imagine a lot of americans would be rather confused as well. Re: [Audyssey] shades of doom recordings
I have a similar problem actually, sinse while I can play games in sterrio and record them and my voice on the rowland, I'm not half so good as Raul at playing without headphones (anyone who remembers my electronic soop demo of mota will recall how badly i did there). It'd be nice to be able to get my voice and headphones both onto my rowland, but sadly not. I can however reccord any game I could play on speakers, something like shades of doom or possibly time of conflict, though i'd need to work a litle at time of conflict again before I was happy enough with the game to try making a demo. Hi Jeremy. i like this communal enemy idea, but might I suggest rather tha including it in the single player mission three, which should afterall at least theoretically be completable by someone on their own, have a separate mode for it. In fact if multiplayer in castaways is going to be a growing thing, then perhaps there need to be new multiplayer specific missions and modes attached to it separate from single player. in fact for me, i'd really like to see the number of jobs and expantions generally increased before people start thinking about a full scale multiplayer co op against an enemy. for instance the ability to build larger houses holding more people, the ability to build trade goods, train troops, generally expand up from the sort of bronze age settlements we have now into something a bit more empire worthy. thus, multiplayer would be a cooperation of expanding city states with a long way to expand too, rather than one or two villages getting together to bosh the invaders. that sort of cooperation is one I'd absolutely love to see in the game. Re: [Audyssey] shades of doom recordings
Hi. to complete the stages in gma tank commander you don't just need to kill the enemies, but actually look at what the mission's objective is. In the first mission for instance, you need to destroy the three inteligence bases and then cross the bridge to the north. You can here the bases, they sound like radio chatter. When you've destroyed all of them, no matter what enemy tanks and copters are left, just head to the central north area and look for the bridge, that will lead you across to sector two. there is also a full walkthru of all missions you can find in the manual as well that describes their layout and many other details. Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy.
I completely agree Dark. I want to continue to have a distinct single player campaign that will never require you to play with other people online. The co-op mode will be a multiplayer version of the campaign, but I am also open to giving the co-op mode its own unique mission or 2. Those could be ones intended to be completed as a team, because they are simply too difficult for an individual person to win. I like the idea of larger houses. I'll consider adding that, but they would of course need to require enough resources so that people almost alway, or always, started out with normal houses and switched over later. If they were too similar in price, I have a feeling most people would never build the smaller ones again simply to save themselves space and the trouble upgrading later. These would be particularly useful on missions like mission 3 where you have an easier time if you have fewer buildings to defend. I'll give it some thought. Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy.
Hi Jeremy. one idea might be to have certain buildings locked by upgrades, just as games like sim city have. obviously the grander your community, the more buildings it has, and the more settled it's people, the more stuff can be built. now we're getting to building monasteries and the like, i think we're working up from village to town status, and as such, town houses would make more sense, afterall frequently in the 19th century you'd get a couple of families living together in one larger house, rather than just small one room cabin affairs that house four people. Myself, I'd suggest either A, making certain buildings only available at larger population sizes, or B, having other structures such as a town hall which need to be built to effectively show the status of the growing community and therefore unlock another round of structures. The same could apply to other buildings besides houses too, either as upgrades or new buildings, like turning your textile shop to a clothing mill, or your butchers shop to a slaughter yard. Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy.
I like this idea, and I will keep it in mind when I brainstorm new missions. Hi Jeremy. one idea might be to have certain buildings locked by upgrades, just as games like sim city have. obviously the grander your community, the more buildings it has, and the more settled it's people, the more stuff can be built. now we're getting to building monasteries and the like, i think we're working up from village to town status, and as such, town houses would make more sense, afterall frequently in the 19th century you'd get a couple of families living together in one larger house, rather than just small one room cabin affairs that house four people. Re: [Audyssey] shades of doom recordings
Hi dark, The difference here is that Raul isn't really recording from speakers. What he's doing is recording the output from his soundcard, and mixing in a recording of his voice. The way you would accomplish this would be to: 1. Set your default recording device to be your soundcard. I'm not sure how you do this on xp, but it's somewhere in the sound properties, under recording. 2. Once you've got your machine set up to record from the soundcard, you can use any recording program (the default one works fine) set up something to capture your voice. THis could be your recorder. 3. Start both recordings are nearly (as close as possible for mixing purposes) the same time, and begin playing. as you play, everything that your computer sends out will be recorded, and your voice, will be taken care of by your recorder. 4. Once your done recording, get both recordings somewhere you have access to them. If possible, make sure they're wav files. 5. The following presumes you have the windows xp sound recorder program installed and working. Once you're done recording, open up one of the files (preferably the one you started first). Once that's open, (guessing here on the menus) go to special (or edit possibly) and choose mix with file. A dialogue should pop up, point it to your other file. If you opened your voice recording, point the recorder to your soundcard recording, or vice versa. 6. Finish mixing the files by choosing ok or mix (I forget which one it is). Once your done mixing, fix the volume of the file so that you can here everything. If the soundcard recording is at a low volume, candle your changes, open that recording and raise the volume. If the voice is low, do the same. It shouldn't be to hard to get the two file to nearly the same volume. 7. ONce you've got both files mixed and audible, save your changes. You now have a full recording with both your voice and stereo sound. If this is really confusing, your can download sound tap from www.nchsoftware.com and get that installed. This program will allow you to record directly from your soundcard, and if you have a microphone, it will allow you to record from both devices at once. The program has a fifteen day trial, and is entirely accessible. Hopefully this message made sense. Re: [Audyssey] shades of doom recordings
Hi, good guess, but that's way too complicated. Actually what I did was set the recorder to record all output from the sound card. This includes wave output, and mic output and line in output. In my recording game situation, only wave and microphone were needed. This way it's just one single recording and it already has my voice in it as I play. Far simpler than how you described it. *smile*. -- Raul A. Hi Valiant, Let's hope it meets your expectations then. I myself prefer FPS over any other game format because of the fact levels are generally larger, there is more realistic movement, and for me it feels like I'm actually right there in the game. Especially, if you get the true 5.1/7.1 surround sound going. With side-scrollers, although they are easier to play, there is still a barrier of unreality about them. Walk right, jump a gap, pick up magic jewl, slay evil monster, continue right, etc. There is a constant progression to the right which was fine for the 80's 2d consoles like the NES and Super NES, but let's face it. This is 2011, and gaming platforms are powerful enough now to render true 3d worlds with a high degree of precision and reality. Its like, why not take advantage of it? Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] mota beta 22 thoughts
Hi Michael, True, but what can I say? My guess is Paramount does the actual creation of the sounds or perhaps or owns or hires a team of sound effects engineers when they need sounds done for Star Trek or whatever else they might be working on. Most film companies has someone on retainer for that specific job. For instance, Lucasfilm uses Skywalker Sound for all of the Star Wars movies plus various other Lucas films and games. Lucas Arts which is owned by Lucasfilm LTD obviously licenses the sounds for the various Star Wars games directly from Skywalker Sound. I'm sure Paramount has some other similar arrangement with somebody I just don't know who. Cheers! On 8/27/11, Michael Gauler michael.gau...@gmx.de wrote: Hi again, And that's why I said I had performed my own search for sounds and found nothing. I know that the sounds of Elite Force were from Raven Software, but that doesn't say anything about their creator. And yes, some sounds of Star Trek Nemesis might be found within the Sound Storm Library, but I think that would have been to big and expensive for you... That thing consists of 50,000 sounds delivered on an external harddrive and costs $6,000!!! And we all know that the important sounds (explosions, impacts and weapons) of Nemesis are not really canon like in comparison to all other canon Trek sources. But that's a bit far away from the important things. I mean, why should a company create a licensed product to a protected name and theoretically could have all resources of that product at hand and do a half finished job by not using all the tools they could get. Of course, we could argue that money might be an issue, maybe that is so. But when you hahave two different fan production teams )one for mainly Trek fan films) and one for purely Trek fan audio dramas and they have better quality sounds than a big mainstream company, well I think then something is really not right. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Microsoft Flight simulator and Itsyourplane
Nothing against Harron and John, but uploading the entire blind pilot's project would be counterproductive, since I cover everything and more in my tutorial. That should answer all of your questions pertaining to IYP and FS9. If it doesn't, you can let one of us know, as I believe I provide contact info at the end of the podcast. If I didn't include it for the others, email me privately and I can provide it. Actually what I did was set the recorder to record all output from the sound card. This includes wave output, and mic output and line in output. In my recording game situation, only wave and microphone were needed. This way it's just one single recording and it already has my voice in it as I play. Far simpler than how you described it. *smile*. -- Raul A.
