Re: [Audyssey] regarding temporal disturbance

2014-05-12 Thread Steve Cullen
Hi Everyone, Ben Stine wasn't the princeable he was a teacher.
I remember seeing the movie in 1986 or 1987. I guess for people who have an
older sister it's a good movie. But I don't think it was one of Mathew
broadrick's better movies. Thank you all very much.

It's actually a line from an American movie from the 1980's called
FerrisBueller's Day Off. Ferris Bueller was an American High School student
with a propensity for skipping whenever he felt like it. My signature is
actually a pretty famous line fromthat film, spoken by the principal of the
school. he was played by actor Ben Stein who apart from having a fairly deep
voice is known for speaking in a sort of deadpan monotone.

Oh freddled gruntbuggly,
thy micturations are to me
as plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee.
GroupI implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes, And hooptiously drangle me
with crinkly bindlewurdles, or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts with my
blurglecruncheon, see if I don't!

I agree on the temporal disturbance having the right name, ie, a disturbance
in time, which as you imagine to a doctor who fan like myself is quite a
familiar idea :D.

I do however wonder Bryan, what on earth is your signature? I don't know
what buella means, I imagine like some of your previous sigs it refers to
something, but this time I don't get it, indeed I thought for a while it was
an evil villain laugh like buahaha, but when I looked at the spelling that
didn't seem likely.

Personally I rather liked the point that you quoted the one ring message.

Beware the grue!
Dark.

[Audyssey] MY complaints about L-works games

2013-06-21 Thread Steve Cullen
Hi Everyone,
I'm sorry if I don't post to the list very often. I have bought three games
from Liam and never received any licensing information I even tried to go to
paypal to register a complaint. To register a complaint with Paypal You have
to fill out like thirty five forms which aren't
Blind friendly I gave that idea up pretty quickly. The Point is that Liam is
not fulfilling the needs of his customers. And there should be something
done about this from the aspect of the blind gamers community.
Thank you all very much.

Steve Cullen

Re: [Audyssey] I'm appauled!

2011-11-25 Thread Steve Crawford
Hmm, how long has it been since I sent you that free stuff for review?
Must be a couple of years or more, I think. I'm just glad you didn't get
around to writing your review sooner...

I'm quite surprised by what I read here. I always thought you were more
logical and level headed but I really struggle to understand where this
apparent hostility is aimed. You seem resent the fact that the RNIB sell my
products, but in a later post you openly criticise them and call them
pathetic. Sounds like a bad case of sour grapes.

Yes, the RNIB sell my games, but I can't see why you have an issue with
this. Are you trying to say that because they sell my games they wouldn't
want to sell anybody else's? Can you explain why? Surely the fact that they
have opened their doors to an independent developer means that they would be
more willing to consider selling other people's games as well. Personally, I
would welcome it if some of the other developers here approached the RNIB
and got them to sell their games.

Regarding the Kountdown game - for the benefit of those who don't know it,
the player chooses up to 9 letters then has 30 seconds to try to make the
longest possible word - I fail to see the point of asking the user to type
in the word they found. Who are they trying to prove it to? I watch the TV
show sometimes and I shout out the word I found. I don't write it down or
type it into a computer to prove I found it. If you find a 7 letter word you
don't need to type it into the computer because all the computer will say is
yes, you found a 7 letter word. It's only going to tell you what you
already know.

I have plenty of testimonials from people - old and young - who have enjoyed
playing my games over the years. I appreciate that some people on this list
may find some them simplistic - they are, after all, designed for computer
novices (ie people who don't know how to use a screen reader, can't
touch-type, etc).

I must admit I've been very slow about writing entries for the Azabat games
for audiogames.net, basically because most of the games are pretty much
available in better versions elsewhere and azabat are ridiculously
overpriced, in fact as I've said before I think the only reason they've
got where they are is because they present audio games for pathetic old
blind people!

Nevertheless, unfortunately the job of maintaining the database means
playing and writing about bad games as well as good ones, and sinse Azabat
did send me both their demo cd and some free copies of their games so that I
could write about them, I do feel I need to give them a reasonable run for
their money, however today I really! had trouble when writing up the entry
for their second volume, word games.

We all know that everyone from jim kitchin to even the online game alien
adoption agency has versions of Hangman, and other than ntoicing that the
azabat version of the game actually has fewer customizations (and
deffinately fewer fun sfx), than jims, I'll move on.

then there is Targit, exactly the same game as bg word targit, but with no
fun sfx or music, and fewer customization options.

Anagrams, the count down letters and numbers game where you form words from
random letters or a targit number from random numbers, and a game called
link words resembling Dan Z's chainlink game.

What appauled me here, is that none! of these games has even a scoring
system! you don't type in solutions, you just get presented with an anagram,
a number targit and that's it. The technology is planely there to create
one, sinse Hangman and word targit have a score system, and the computer
even has the ability to work out solutions to all the problems meaning that
it could! determine whether your right or wrong, but for some completely
insane reason you don't type in your answers, you just are supposed to solve
them in your head!

In the name of all that's reasonable, why is a score! system! so hard to
manage!

As I said, I do want to try and make the best of azabat because they did
send me some free stuff, but when the quality of their games is so insanely
low my job is extremely difficult!

Yes, making games that are not complex for computer novices is a worth while
aime, but how novice are we talking here?

heck, my mum is about as computer novice as you get (she regularly phones me
to ask things like how to copy files or open mail attachments), yet I've got
her Ian Humphries psudoku games and she's quite able to play them, indeed
was able to install them pretty easily too thanks to the microsoft install
wizard.

What planet are Azabat on?

Even their one really unique game backgamman now has a far superior version
thanks to Manu of Pontes games, with online play, sfx, music ambience and
lots of other great customization features

Re: [Audyssey] I'm appauled!

2011-11-25 Thread Steve Crawford
Hey Dark,

Your approach to getting the RNIB to sell audio games is all wrong.
Complaining about the lack of options isn't going to work. The RNIB aren't
going to start phoning up developers with offers to sell their programmes.
It's up to the individual developer to create a product that the RNIB can
sell (ie something tangible, like a CD-Rom) and to approach them with it,
wait for them to evaluate it, and give them the USP - detailing pricing
structure, returns policy, etc. That's what I did.

Seriously, if there's a developer out there who wants help and advice in
getting their stuff into the RNIB I'm happy to be contacted off list.

As for my products, I've received enough testimonials from people of all
ages to know that I'm doing something worthwhile.

Hello steve.

i freely admit my initial post may have been somewhat over frustrated,
however please allow me to explain.

I actually have! approached the rnib in connection with not just selling
other people's games, but promoting audio computer games in general. Their
response well most blind people wouldn't like them

This is as I said because in my experience the rnib shows litle interest in
visually impared people who do not conform to their idea of what visually
impared people should be. Rather than tayloring their service to what is
required or available, they have one single idea they stick to and ignore
anything that does not conform with it.
i'm afraid this opinion is born out by considderable experience which I
would be glad to detail, not the least of which is bringing these
concerns before the rnib themselves and being roundly ignored time after
time.

As to your games specifically, perhaps if I can explain my frustration in a
more rational manner.

While I accept that you write games expressly for computer novices, so they
run from the cd, have logical controls, grids that do not wrap etc, my
frustration is caused by the fact that the games themselves! appear to be
simplified, indeed one might almost say dumbed down, and thus perpetuating
sterriotypes concerning blind and visually impared people.

Even if we limit ourselves only to the field of traditional or puzle based
games, your games often lack options or choices which are taken as standard
not only in other versions of similar games produced by other developers,
but also in games generally.

For instance a score system and records of previous games, in certain games
the ability to customize the difficulty etc.

While I freely accept that having a player presented with many options to
customize games can indeed be confusing, this to me does not automatically
mean such options should be missed.

For example, In Ian Humphries bg braniac (a concentration style game similar
to your own memory), there is the option to have lots of different board
sizes, have the player gain points for correct matches, decide whether one
or two pairs are on the board at the same time etc, however it is also
possible to simply start the program and bang the enter key to play with the
default settings, or to use only one of the settings keys sinse each is tied
to a different function key.

The fact that more options exist does not take away from the simplicity of
the game, but adds extra customization to it for those who wish such a
thing.

As I said, I truly thank you for the demo cd and free games, and I'll
certainly do my best to write none biased descriptions as is my professional
duties to audiogames.net.

however, on a personal level I must confess I find your approach of missing
out possible complexity and customization, to be rather lacking in it's
scope, especially considdering that unlike some of the other traditional
games available, yours are comparatively expensive to buy (this isn't to say
such things should be free, only that given the price that your charging I
feel you could possibly add more to the games).

While I freely accept that gamers of different skill levels and intentions
exist, it does seem unfortunately as far as the Azabat games are concerned,
they operate only to the lowest common denominator, rather than, as
would be the case with something like the Spoonbill games or several of Jim
Kitchins, working on a basis of appealing to as wide a cross section as
possible.

While I am sorry if my previous message was over hasty, and I do accept that
I may have been more frustrated than considder, I do however think there is
a legitimate point here, and indeed I'm extremely pleased that you are
on this list and are able to discuss it openly.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi guys,

*quote thomas ward*
One game that might help you and the developer of this game is an
accessible game called Sudo-San. It is written in Flash, is played on
the web, is simple, and can be found at
http://www.audiogames.net/playcenter/ and could be a good starting place
for looking into developing browser based games for the blind and sighted.

*quote end*

Just want to note that Sudo-San was developed using Director (and needs
the Shockwave plugin) instead of Flash (which uses the Flash plugin). Same
goes for The Curb Game (http://www.audiogames.net/thecurbgame/) and
Ratjeprak (http://www.audiogames.net/db.php?id=ratjeprak).

Hi richard, I've done what you've suggested and although the page loads for
sudo-san now, there is no flash content on the screen and no audio...I'm
puzzled :p. However, doing the same with the curb game, works fine and
the game plays fine, it's on the screen and plays well, good job BTW. So,
how do you explain that 1? Not sure what else I can do. I do have IE 7

Hi Steve,

This issue may be related to a Shockwave popup screen (which I think was
added by Macromedia after we launched Sudo-San) in which

you have to allow the game to access a script on our website.

Can you try this:

1. make sure you've installed the latest version of the Shockwave plugin
in your copy of Internet Explorer

2. leave your screenreader ON
3. go to http://gluid.com/games/sudosan/play.php (direct link to the
webpage with the game) in Internet Explorer (not FF - somehow
our auto-focus script doesn't seem to work anymore in the latest FF
version!)
4. the game loads and after a while you should hear the intro. Then a
pop-up will open (which should be accessible via your
screenreader). It asks you for certain permissions with three tickboxes.
Tick the one with do not ask again and click the button

allow. This makes sure that the popup will not popup every time.
5. turn OFF your screenreader
6. press F5 to reload the webpage
7. the game should now reload and start without the pop-up. If all is well
you should now be able to control the game via the

keyboard

Please make sure to read the documentation on
http://www.audiogames.net/sudosan/ and also check out the Sudo-San forum:
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewforum.php?id=17 . This posts also deals
with some accessibility issues:

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=488

Please let us know if you get Sudo-San to work!

Richard

Re: [Audyssey] Advice on implamenting accessibility into a visual/graphical game?

2010-06-28 Thread Steve S
Hi Shaun and thanks for the info. The range of games is amazing, but what's
in mind at the moment is not a complex game, it's how to make, let's say a
shooting game that people play daily on the web accessible. My son plays
Call of Duty and all those mind blowing games on the PS3, but believe me he
loves playing other games on the web, that you would probably find boring.
I don't think it's because the game is boring, it's because we can't get
immersed in it's simplisity, because we can't get involved for example.

Like I said in a previous post...a game he played, he aimed the mouse and
clicked, he then clicked again when looking at a visual meter to shoot...he
was on that game for about 1 hour 15 mins...and he had COD upstairs! The
game offered a lot of thought, calculation and game play against another
person in another country, pretty rewarding. So, there lies the quest. The
best way to have a VIP move that mouse with the keyboard, select the
position and get involved in the on line game-play...that's just an example,
but see what I mean. I hope to learn what's needed, because that can always
lead on to more complex projects, cheers Steve.

well there are examples.
1. teraformas.
this game had graphics and sound though probably not as good as shades of
doom or gtc as an experimental game it was quite interesting.

Unfortunately its never been updated so some bugs still remain.
the blind eye is a prime example on what is not a good thing to do with an
accessible game.

Its never been fixeither.
shades of doom was one of the first fps games out there.
it has most of what could be benificial for the blind to play.
gtc is also a good game.
Entombed is a good rpg style at least it should work in that sort of way.
soundrts and time of conflict could lend some help to.
finally final conflict has simple menus and key commands.
though old its still good for what it is.
At 12:14 a.m. 28/06/2010, you wrote:
Hi list. I have a few questions regarding the realistic possibilities of

list members would be able to offer their advice. I have a sighted
programmer friend who has taken an interest in how I would go about
playing a game...and we got onto the subject of how accessibility could be
built into a visual game.

Anyway, if anyone could answer some basic questions below, I'd really
appreciate it, as this would firstly clear up non possible avenues and
secondly, give us the possible avenues to play with. At this point, can I
just say, if it is possible to do this, a very simple graphical game would
be on the table for an experiment, probably self voicing and web-based,
but could be client based.

1. What is the best combination for accessibility within a visual
environment. E.g, Java (graphics) and self-voicing? Flash (graphics) and
self-voicing? Java (graphics) and a client TTS based program? etc...
2. Would 1 approach be more difficult than another? E.g, screenreader over
self-voicing?
3. Are there any examples of such a graphical game which offer a good
gaming experience to both the blind and sighted, which incorporate audio
accessibility?

Hopefully you understand what I'm asking. In a nutshell, the blind have
no need for graphics and the sighted need graphics, so I'm guessing there
hasn't been a great need to marry the two...but is it possible and what
road would we go down to make it possible.

Many thanks, have a great day, cheers Steve.

Interesting. I don't know of many accessible game developers that have
created a web based game that was both visually graphical and fully
accessible to a blind player other than All in Plays card games. One
game that might help you and the developer of this game is an
accessible game called Sudo-San. It is written in Flash, is played on
the web, is simple, and can be found at
http://www.audiogames.net/playcenter/
and could be a good starting place for looking into developing browser
based games for the blind and sighted.

I don't think it's because the game is boring, it's because we can't get

Hi Richard and thanks so much for your exellent and informative post. It's
been quite a relief to find out things aren't always beyond our control,
more like a little thought needs to go into things, as games can be made
accessible, it's just the desire and market isn't quite there yet.
Unfortunately I can't access sudosan, at the moment, as IE won't open the
page, it just clicks away as if it's stuck, but I'll try out the other stuff
tomorrow when I have a bit more time. Things have become much more clearer

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Advice on implamenting accessibility into
avisual/graphical game?

Hi Steve and list,

Here're some answers from me...

Question 1:
What is the best combination for accessibility within a visual
environment. E.g, Java (graphics) and self-voicing? Flash (graphics)

and self-voicing? Java (graphics) and a client TTS based program? etc...

Answer:
The choice of technology depends very much on the type of game that you
are going to develop. You need to know the type of graphics
that the game is going to use (3D or 2D) and also the platform on which
the game is played (PC, iPhone/iPad or (handheld) console,
online in browser on website/ Facebook, etc.). There's a wide range of
game technology out there so you first need to be more
specific. But I can tell you this already: Java and Flash are currently
the most popular apps for 2D online/offline graphics,
including a 2D sound engine. Unity, Director, Virtools and Quest3D are the
most popular (in that order) for online/offline 3D
graphics, including a 3D sound engine. Of these, only Director contains
standard TTS functionality.
But there are many options if you choose to develop for another platform,
many including coding (for example C#) instead of

scripting (ActionScript) solutions.

Question 2:
Would 1 approach be more difficult than another? E.g, screenreader over
self-voicing?

Answer:
Again, this depends heavily on your game design and the type of experience
that you want to accomplish. The benefit of screenreader
functionality is that you don't have to produce sound file assets for the
text in your game. If your game contains a lot of text
this saves a lot of money and time. It also saves a lot on the size of
your game (100 text files is much smaller than 100 mp3
files). The downside is that you can't control the sound of the voice on
the players computer, with many people having different
voices. You also need to somhow get TTS working in your game as not that
many game development tools support TTS. Your game will
(partially) sound like any other application and that a lot of expression
thus immersion of the gamer may probably be lost, compared
to a recording of a voice actor. This is one of the benefits of a
self-voicing game - you can make it sound great, original,
expressive and exciting. You can make it sound like a game and not Word.
But of course you need to have the resources (voice
over/actor (=not the same), recording capabilities, time) to do that.
Also, it will make your game a lot bigger. And many

development tools can simply handle multiple sound files.

Question 3:
Are there any examples of such a graphical game which offer a good gaming
experience to both the blind and sighted, which

incorporate audio accessibility?

Answer:
Aside from the obvious ones such as Terraformers and The Blind Eye, that
others have already mentioned, there are several games in
our AudioGames.net database that feature visuals and from which can be
learned. Such as:

http://www.audiogames.net/sudosan/
http://www.audiogames.net/thecurbgame/
http://audiogames.net/db.php?action=viewid=mueckenjagd
http://audiogames.net/db.php?action=viewid=SoundVoyager
http://audiogames.net/db.php?action=viewid=km2000
http://audiogames.net/db.php?action=viewid=tag

Many of the above are accessible but have (light and big) design issues in
one way or the other. Sudosan, which I developed, is an
accessible version of the popular Sudoku puzzle. It is very boring because
solving a 9x9 sudoku takes a lot longer by listening to
each row and column compared to having a visual overview of the puzzle. A
better solution would have been the option of a 4x4 or 6x6

sudoku.

The Curb Game was intended as a (first) simple online blind-accessible
video game, as there were none at that time. What we learned
was that adding visuals double the production time (also see final note
below).

The game KM2000 is an excellent example on how why one should NOT base
your accessible game design on a visual perspective. KM2000
is a racing game in which it was decided to use a top-down

There are several ways in which a graphical game can be made accessible.
It is always easier to do if it is planned in from the beginning, but at
least some accessibility can be added. We use both Java and self-voicing
AND compatibility with JAWS. We are exploring the use of Flash and
self-voicing and should have some answers regarding that by the end of the
summer.

As for examples of graphical games that are accessible, check out our
7-128 Software games. Yes they are casual games but will provide an
example of using graphics and self voicing/screen reader accessibility in
the same game.

Hi Steve,
Well, as I am both a game player and a software developer I'd say I am
definitely in a position to help you and your friend here. If you have
any questions you would like to ask me specifically I'm certain I may
be a big help. Anyway, here are the questions and answers to the
questions you asked.

Question:
1. What is the best combination for accessibility within a visual
environment. E.g,
Java (graphics) and self-voicing? Flash (graphics) and self-voicing?
Java (graphics)
and a client TTS based program? etc...

Answer:
All of these questions are asking about specific programming languages
such as Java and Flash. Either one could work for a game if the
developer knows how to add accessibility to the program. However, I
will say that Java can be problematic as not all screen readers
support swing, and there for if the developer uses Java there should
definitely be some way to self-voice the game that way the screen
reader is not an issue for the gamer. Fortunately, you can use
prerecorded speech files that get played back as needed as I do with
my games, or the Java developer could use something like FreTTS for
speech output. It isn't the best quality speech system, but it does
work.

Question:
2. Would 1 approach be more difficult than another? E.g, screenreader
over self-voicing?

Answer:
Not really. However, as a developer and a gamer I prefer the program
self-voice itself rather than depending on a screen reader. The reason
I say this even though some screen readers like Jaws and Window-Eyes
can directly be supported through their individual APIs not all screen
readers have this ability and there for your screen reader support
would be limited to whatever screen reader/screen readers you decided
to support. If you use a language like Java accessibility is dependant
on if the screen reader supports the Java access bridge. Jaws and NVDA
do, but Window-Eyes does not. Therefore once again your accessibility
is very hit and miss using a screen reader. The only way to make sure
everyone can play it is to make the game itself provide the speech
output via tts engine or by using prerecorded speech as needed.

Question:
3. Are there any examples of such a graphical game which offer a good
gaming experience
to both the blind and sighted, which incorporate audio accessibility?

Answer:
A few. However, this is something that has largely not been done since
most accessible game developers don't care about graphics thus don't
include them. One game I know of that has graphics and is accessible
is Teraformers. That's one of the only examples I can think of in
terms of an action game that does this. There are other games such as
those created by 7128.com that have graphics and speech output, but
those are mostly turn based games where you answer questions such as
in the Inspector Cindy games, or word puzzles. Not exactly what you
are looking for here as they are rather simple examples of how
accessibility can be applied to a graphical game. there are also the
All In Play card games that are accessible to blind and sighted alike,
but once again it is a rather simple example of a graphics based game
being made accessible to the blind. I'm not sure you can find anything
complex where graphics and accessibility were designed into the same
game.

Hi,
As you say a lot depends on exactly the type of game that is going to
be created. However, making a game web based actually would make
matters worse not better as it is harder to incorperate accessibility
features into the program. Here is a simple example of what I mean.
With a language like Java you can create web applets, an applet type
game, and incorperate it into a web page. That's fine as far as it
goes but the problem here is that the Java applet package only offers
extremely simple audio output like load, play, and stop sounds. Hardly
what we would want if we need to create an audio environment where we
needs sounds panned left or right, change the volume based on
distance, etc. In that case creating the program as a web applet
becomes an accessibility hazard instead of a help. The only solution
is to create it as a stand alone game and use a more advanced audio
API like the javax sound package which has the ability to pan sounds,
change volume, and a bunch of other more advanced sound goodies. Make
sense?

[Audyssey] Fw: looking for a website link I used to have

2010-03-31 Thread Steve Britt
Hi, folks. Does anyone have a link to a game called Alter-Ego? A friend of mine
from another list is looking for it. I've never heard of that particular game.
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have the link to the Alter-Ego game? This was a text-based game
which allowed you to go through the life of your character and you ahd to make
certain choices in certain situations. I don't remember who originally had the
link but I figure I wasn't the only one who tried this one. I unfortunately
lost the link when our old desktop computer had to be reformatted.

[Audyssey] Unsubscribing!

2010-03-25 Thread Steve
Hello and goodbye,
I am going to be leaving the list, since I am tired of having now 40 emails
about a game creation tool that I am sure is great, but it is not in all
reality for everyone. There is a reason to go to school and learn to program,
or any other profession that someone wants to become good at. I for one feel we
have plenty of low to mid quality games out there for the blind, and not enough
high quality ones, and most of that is do to that people think they actually
know something about computers.
So to sum it up leave the programming to those who are trained in it and for
the love of god please let's get back to discussing the playing of games
instead of designing of them.

something along those lines, so if I need anymore suggestions I will ask.

Hi guys,
This is a joke that we did with Hayden about entombed.
... ... ...what was that groan? Muhammed looked over as the spine chilling
noise hit his ears, he was nearly knocked over as a burst of fire rose up.
Then, in the cloud of fire...came Hayden! Two guardians, the elementals,
and the reflections were at his back! The battle was furious! The clangs
shook the Dungeon! But allass, Muhammed had no chance, and was severely
beating as Hayden hit him with

hayden says:

Zonby rot straight to the face! The mighty party of Muhammed was defeated!

hayden says:

the Dungeon cried as Muhammed fell, the might hero laid low by the forces
of Alessandria's once mighy kingdom

muhammed says:

Muhammed had 3 lives when he got killed. By Hayden, but he was extremely
angry. He did a flurry on one of the gardians, and he took 'em out. Then,
the 2 skellitons took out the reflections. Then, He got rid of the
elementals. The dungion was the happyest in the kingdum!

hayden says:

alass, this was not meant to be. Hayden began to chant in resonating
tones, his voice shaking the dungeon to its very foundations. Muhammed saw
a spark...

hayden says:

Then came three crystals! The vangard to their mistress, who took out
Muhammed's ca, his very essence to live

muhammed says:

A cobald triskter came out to help Muhammed, and he charmed that voice.

hayden says:

it's too late! Doyou know what a ca is?

muhammed says:

His party got back up and began getting the pest's off. Muhammed saw a
clearing. He took a huge blow to the dungion, and it fell to its pride.

hayden says:

Hayden gave amight wail of furry! The very kingdom rose! The passages
flooded! Hordes of etins, trolls, hobgoblins, goblins, and swarms of
Dungeon animals came to his defense! Muhammed had no chance...

hayden says:

he could not go on, and surrender, allowing Hayden to insinerate his
weapons

hayden says:

though I don't think you heard my earlier question,

muhammed says:

But Muhammed casted dragie on the guys! Suddenly, 9485 gobblin king's
came, 1453 ogmok's came, 4564 drake's party came, 99 of the Lick's
party came and Hayden's defence chances were bad and he got killed!

hayden says:

unfortunately for Muhammed, Hayden held is very soul hostage. He
threatened to hirl it into the abyss, if Muhammed did not surrender

muhammed says:

I didn't.

hayden says:

Do you know what a Ca is?

muhammed says:

No.

hayden says:

In Egyption Mythology, the Ca was one of the parts of the soul, the other
was the Ba. The Ba's function was simply to create the spark oflife in the
soul. In other words, without one, you're simply one of the unjustified
dead

hayden says:

oops that was the Ca'sfunction, mistyped

muhammed says:

See?

hayden says:

hmmm?

hayden says:

So Muhammed, do you have Ken's games?

muhammed says:

But the dungion exploded including Hayden but Muhammed's party escaped the
dungion. Hayden cried for help, help, help! but the dungion fell to its
last soll and Hayden got his head burnt.

muhammed says:

Yes.

hayden says:

yet Hayden did not need his head. In the dead of night, Hayden sneaked
into Muhammed's city and murdered him as he slept

muhammed says:

But Muhammed played a trick on Hayden. Muhammed casted aspell, and
Hayden's city got burnet. The king and the city cheared at him, and he was
the kings men including his big party.

hayden says:

HHayden's city, however, was not the one Muhammed hadd burned. His city
was far, far away, and seeing as Muhammed lay with his heart pierced by
the Dark twin, Hayden's city prospered forever

muhammed says:

But the king was so strong, that he got rid of the hole kingdum. And the
king's party escaped out in to a home.

hayden says:

huh?

muhammed says:

Ok, end of joke.

muhammed says:

I won.

hayden says:

what kingdom? hayden did not burn any kingdom

muhammed says:

I did.

hayden says:

he returned to his own kingdom with the new king of Muhammed's realm
hostage, Thomas Ward!

Could this be made into a game? Bashing stupid sighted people with
baseball

bats when they make their comments? We would be overrun with them, but
there would be, every so often, a sensible comment from one of them, and
you

get penalized if that person gets bashed by accident. You would have to
earn money and pay the smart sighted people to help fight the cause.

Hi all,
Ok, I know we all have had a bit of fun bashing sighted people with
their rediculous opinions, beliefs, etc but it is time we start
getting things back on topic. So let's close all the ignorant sighted
peopole topics, and get back to gaming.

Thanks.

[Audyssey] Moderators help please!

2010-03-14 Thread Steve
Good morning all,
I woke up this morning to a inbox full of emails discussing the difference
between two words,
I have one question what does this have to do with gaming?
So I feel that if this is the discussion you all need to have it should be on
another list, and as far as this list the moderators make the rules and if you
don't like them unsubscribe from the list so that those of us who want to
discuss and read emails about games can continue to do this.
Thank you!

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,
Ok, I know we all have had a bit of fun bashing sighted people with
their rediculous opinions, beliefs, etc but it is time we start
getting things back on topic. So let's close all the ignorant sighted
peopole topics, and get back to gaming.

Thanks.

Hi guys,
Just an idea. When I was looking on the game spot stuff, I saw them on
youtube. Here is the idea. How about we make a review of a blind game, and
uplode it to youtube. Then in that way, they will understand that blind
people could use computer, and they could take a little lesson.

Hi Steve,
What you do is press c to bring up your characters menu, and by
default it will place you in the menu for your main character. If you
use tab and shift+tab in that menu it will switch between the members
in your party.

This game seems like a game I would like. I have messed with the demo and
so far it is pretty interesting. I only hate that I can't use jaws with
it. When I switch the engine to jaws I lose all speech. I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling entombed and still it does this. I am stuck
using the sapi voices and they are not my favorite. lol I am not sure what
else I can try to fix the problem.

Hi Ryan,
Sure. I generally like challenging games myself. I think for me it
isn't so much the challenge in the game as a lot of details are not
documented and there are a few bugs that really need fixing. Otherwise
I'd personally really enjoy the game.

I agree and I'm not even a hip lol.
It's kind of twisted how people today think kids watching batman handing
out a brutal beating's okay and yet anything to do with sex is wrong.
Japanese people however, seem to see this in a totally different light-
they're much more open about both sides of the issue and do not exclude
children from either violence or sexuality.

Hi,

Speaking of adult games, in my opinion, violence is way worse than sex.
I know that is not the popular opinion but being a long time peace
loving hippie it is my opinion. So to me games where you are bashing
and or killing monsters, animals or humans would be worse for kids to
be playing than games with a bit of sexual content in them.

Hi Thomas,

I totally agree with you. However if a child happens to play your game as
sad as it is, it's not your responsibility. It's the responsibility of the
parent who's allowing that to happen by not being vigilant enough.

Not that I'm into those sorts of games not even remotely as you've seen
from

my answers to your survey. All I'm saying that should you wish to go down
that road I wouldn't be put off by that.

As for people taking offence to such things, well no disrespect to anybody
but firstly people tend to take offence too quickly these days. They are
even encouraged to do that which I think is personally detrimental to the
individual and quite honestly sad because it just spoils things in the
long
run. Secondly, they don't have to purchase your product. God gave us
brains

and the ability to make sound choices in our lives. If you purchase a
product that you know is going to offend you then what is the purpose
behind

setting yourself up to be offended?

thats a bummer.
I had it once that the modem was broke and the power pack fried itself.
You may have to stay off the lists for a bit in that case.
Also back up your data.
Whenever techs at least when I get the things sent to the shop as

Hi.

If I remember rightly Zhi's recording was at a later stage in the game.
you get increases in int and strength each level and it's these, in
combination with your items which increase your magical damage. also, I'm
not sure if Zhi had more int boosting gear than just the goblin kings'
swords, sinse the more you wear, the more powerful your spells get.

Lastly, there are elements. Lightning will always do more damage to water
based enemies like water elementals because they're weak to it, and less
to air based ones.

As contrast, in my last game, my druids' lightning at one stage was doing
37 average damage (she also had some magic int boosting gear), but only
doing two or three damage to air elemental. Water elementals however were
taking damage in the 80's.

I listened to Zhi Huang's recording of entombed with magic and Jil, and
how could he make it get lightening to 75 dammage?.
I red the info table and it said the 2 swords from the goblan king. I
battled him and won, but when I put to of them on, it says 30 dammage. I

production even when I have my taxes set at 200 gold versus 0. So, I'm not
sure if that's a bug, but...

Greetings Hayden.

Morale impacts your production of resources, however. With 100% morale, I
should be getting 20 units of crop per hour, but it seems to be stuck at a
static 5 per hour.
Can anyone look at their production screen and tell me if they're getting
appropriate amounts providing they've the requisite upgrades and
buildings?

Hi,
I'm not sure about the crop thing, but morale is only changed through
means
of taxes; thus it has nothing to do with the Grain Mills, Iron Foundries,
etc that you might build.

I'm playing Devana (the modified version), and have built a grain mill

crop

that's stuck at 5.

I've added things to make it possible to tell what's under construction,
and put alt or title tags on all images (except for some related to the
world map)
and generally cleaned up the interface here and there to help vi folks
better understand what's happening.

The one at devana.eu is the original site, and I play there too,
only I have a lot easier time playing the modified one, because I don't
have to guess at what's happening in some cases.
Plus, recently, the devana.eu copy seems to have introduced a few bugs
recently.
For instance, when I have 3 or 4 buildings constructing at the same time,
sometimes I find that devana.eu won't correctly track those buildings,

and I get stuck with less resources, but no completed building.
I've not seen any mention of it on the forums over there, so I'm a little
surprised about that,
But regardless, it's an excellent game, so feel free to play at whichever
site is easiest for you.

http://www.devana.eu is the original site, and
http://www.thesiegelsnest.us/devana
is the one I've modified, so any errors or omissions are mine.
If you do have issues, please drop a note in the forums, and I'll see if I
can fix any issues.

Re: [Audyssey] Sudoku for newbies, possibly dummies

2010-01-07 Thread Steve Crawford
Just noticed this thread and, being a big fan of Sudoku, had to put my two
cents worth in.

Azabat Software is a bit different than the other games that are usually
mentioned here in that it is aimed primarily at blind and partially sighted
people who have little or no computer experience. They come on a CD and run
straight from it - the voices are built in so you don't need a screen
reader. Hence, they are not available for download.

Azabat Sudoku costs ?12 on its own or you can buy it on Volume 3 for ?30,
which also contains Battleships, Memory (concentration) and UXB
(minesweeper). I know that there are other accessible versions out there
free of charge, so ?30 (or even ?12) may seem expensive.

I got a bit bored with plain Sudoku so now I have a volume of 5 games based
on Sudoku. The games are called Fubuki, Futoshiki, Greater Than, Jigsaw
Sudoku and Killer Sudoku. They all follow the basic rules of Sudoku but can
be played on much smaller grids so there's less memorising involved. For
example, The Guardian uses 5 x 5 Futoshiki puzzles and Fubuki is only a 3 x
3 grid. That particular product is Volume 6 and costs ?30 - more details and
samples are on the website.

Funnily enough, i was requesting spoonbill softwares' sudoku for my mum,
sinse she's a fan of the pen and paper ones but finds them visually a strain
and Ian humphrys' version has high visibility graphics as well as the voice.

If anyone knows of any other sudoku games with graphics and voice, for
instance I don't know if Draconis' soundoku has graphics, my mum would want
to know I think.

I know there is asabat, but that is a trifle expensive imho.

I'm afraid this is a game area I haven't investigated too much myself, sinse
I personally find the spacial logic needed for sudoku (or indeed most tyle
puzle games), near impossible!

It is called soundoku. Well worth the money after the trial period

 Hi all,

I have a procrastination gap to fill while I'm on the road this week.
Fancied trying my hand at Sudoku. Can anyone recommend a good
accessible game to get me started?

SudoSan seemed promising, but upon visiting the audiogames.net/sudosan
URL and launching the game, I get the intro played but can't seem to
get any of the shortcuts listed to work. It's as if the game doesn't
see that I'm pressing n for a new puzzle or d for difficulty etc, it
just sits there and plays japanese music at me. Pretty cool authentic
music I should add, so it's not all bad.

 Thanks in advance...
 Scott

Re: [Audyssey] accessible scrabble game?

The volume contains 3 other games as well, so you also get Backgammon,
Dominoes and Draughts. If you just want Scrazabat (I can't call it Scrabble
for legal reasons) on its own you the price is $29 (I'm assuming you're in
the US). The list of individual games is at:-

Re: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's Baseball Pitches

Hi Ryan,
I personally just swing, and if the timing is right you will at least foul
the pitch off.

Subject: [Audyssey] Jim Kitchen's Baseball Pitches

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up Jim Kitchen's Baseball again, and I've been
experimenting quite a bit with the batting practice. I've had trouble for
quite some time determining what I should and should not swing at, and I
found that the last section or two of the pitch sound tells you if the
pitch
is going to be high or low. On the curve ball, for example, an E flat
pitch
tells you that the pitch will be low; a roughly C natural tells you it
will

be high. Anything between that is a fair ball.

I have two issues with this, however.

First of all, the time you're given to determine the pitch of the ball is
pretty negligible-in the tenths of seconds range. You have just a split
second between hearing the pitch of the throw and the prime swing time to
decide whether you should take a shot at the ball.

Second, and more important: many people don't have perfect pitch, so the
ability to determine the difference between a B flat (strike call) and a C
natural (ball) would literally be impossible for them.

A couple of questions, then:

Do any of you who play Jim Kitchen's Baseball have a different method to
determine what is a strike and what is a ball? Is there something in the
pitch sound that I'm missing?

Do any of you even worry about the accuracy of the pitch or do you just
swing at everything that's thrown at you?

I have some definite opinions on this, but I want to find out first if I'm
missing a key piece of the puzzle.

Thanks for any light you can shed on the subject.

Ryan
