well rr 1 has a mangled reg system so it may not run. it also runs an extremely old version of dotnet and so it again may not run. Hi Valiant, Good idea. A lot of older games such as Rail Racer 1.x was not designed with User Account Control in mind, and it is possible UAC is causing the game to have problems saving or accessing files. Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer Not working on Windows 7
Hello Ian, There are a lot of questions and comments in this message I'd like to address so I have decided to answer as many as I can with a question and answer type format below. Quote I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have all versions of the .NET Framework installed from 1.0 through 4.5. End Quote That is entirely not necessary. Windows 7 comes with a fully operational version of the .NET Framework that is 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 compatible. In most cases installing .NET 1.1 will support 1.0 and 1.1 apps and of course you can install 4.5 if you really need that support. However you don't need every single version of the framework from 1.0 to 4.5 installed. Major overkill there. Quote I'm not sure if I have Managed DirectX, though my games use it, but I include the dlls in a a lib folder for that. End Quote Generally when you run the DirectX web installer it will install Managed DirectX along side the standard C/C++ Directx libraries assuming you have a compatible .NET Framework installed which you do. One way to know for sure is in Visual C# or Visual Basic .NET just checking the available libraries will tell you if Managed DirectX is installed and available. Quote Entombed also works for me, does it use Managed DirectX? End Quote No. Entombed is using a newer .NET multimedia library called XNA Framework which was Microsoft's official replacement for Managed DirectX back in 2007. Quote I installed railRacerDemo10. I got it from the BlindAdrenaline.com website within the past month so I expect it is the latest. End Quote It is not. That is Rail Racer 1.0, the original demo, which means it is considerably out of date. The latest stable version is something like version 1.5.3 and 1.0 is obviously many versions behind the latest stable release. Che also has a version 2.0 in the works so that demo is very very old. Quote I didn't see the 1.6 update, where is that? End Quote My bad. I meant 1.5.3 when I said 1.6 in a prior post. Quote If you know how to get a better error out of this I'd love to hear those instructions. End Quote Well, probably the only way to get more detailed information is by opening the memory dump files in Notepad and reading the error messages. That can be tedious, but that will often give more detailed and specific information as to why the game crashed. Hi Thomas, You said: However you don't need every single version of the framework from 1.0 to 4.5 installed. Major overkill there. I say: I didnt' explicitly install each. I think they all got installed due to my installations of Visual Studio, and their service packs. I only mention them all to provide as much information as possible and so we could skip intermediate emails where people suggest installing one of them. Thanks for your notes on version numbers. Unfortunately the link to the 1.5.3 patch was broken. I get the feeling that just getting that patch might solve my problems. But thanks also for your note about checking the memory dump files, if I acquire the patch and it doesn't help then that will be my next step. Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer Not working on Windows 7
Hi all, Sorry for my delayed response to this, a friend just told me about the thread a bit ago. Rail Racer 1 is no longer supported, as it is ancient in computer code terms. I have not taken down the demo of RR 1, thinking a few folks might want to play around with it, but looks like I should do that to avoid confusion. RR 2 is in final beta form and dozens of folks have already purchased it. It is far superior to rr 1 in almost every way, and I will be releasing a demo for it as soon as I can get caught up in real life. It works fine with windows 7 and 8, the only problems I have seen are on really old XP systems, and I'm pretty sure I have that problem fixed for the next update of the beta. You can find more details if you want at the website: http://www.blindAdrenaline.com/railRacer I don't check this list that often, but you can mail me off list if you like at: blindadrenal...@gmail.com Be sure and check out the web page first though as it will answer most questions. There is also a thread on the audio games dot net forums that I update as patches and updates come out. Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer Not working on Windows 7
Hi Leo, I do know for a fact that Railracer will run on Windows 7. I suspect the problem is you are missing a .NET component or dependency for the game. First, though, which version of Railracer is this. Is this Railracer 1.6 or the new Railracer 2? If it is Railracer 1.x you need to get and install Managed DirectX for .NET if you have not already done so. Without it you will get nowhere with the game. Second, what exactly is the error message. We can not help you debug the problem if you simply assume everyone knows what error you are referring to. I can tell you that we don't, and that kind of information is vital to any sort of resolution of the problem. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer Not working on Windows 7
The game crashes for me as well, so maybe my description of the crash will help. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have all versions of the .NET Framework installed from 1.0 through 4.5. I'm not sure if I have Managed DirectX, though my games use it, but I include the dlls in a a lib folder for that. A search for download managed DirectX takes me to this page: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 Where I download and run the installer, only to have it tell me that a newer version of DirectX was found and so installation doesn't need to continue. Entombed also works for me, does it use Managed DirectX? I installed railRacerDemo10. I got it from the BlindAdrenaline.com website within the past month so I expect it is the latest. This is the exact link I used: http://blindadrenaline.com/downloadCounter/download.php?x=Rail+Racer+Demo I see a link for the 1.53 update, but it gives me a 404 when I click it. This is the exact link: http://www.blindadrenaline.com/uploads/rrUpdates/rr153Update.zip I didn't see the 1.6 update, where is that? When I run the game I get a dialog that says this: Game Engine.exe has stopped working, windows is checking for a solution to the problem. After a few seconds that disappears and is replaced with a dialog that says this: Do you want to send more information about the problem? Additional details about what went wrong can help Microsoft create a solution. By clicking the view details button I get: Description: Stopped working Files that help describe the problem: C:\Users\Ian Reed\AppData\Local\Temp\WER73D9.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml C:\Users\Ian Reed\AppData\Local\Temp\WER897C.tmp.mdmp Read our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288clcid=0x0409 If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt Then I choose not to send a report to Microsoft. Yo Che, Yup, out of the box Apple don't imbed numpad functionality into their portables now. Haven't done for a few years. I emailed accessibility to request that they reintroduce the feature drawing their attention to the fact that they provided numpad commander as a feature of VoiceOver, then dropped imbedded numpads. VO users are just the tip of the iceberg though, I know plenty of sighted musos and design folks who miss the functionality. In Mac OS, there's a free utility called KeyRemap4Macbook that does an awesome job of filling the gap, but I'm guessing RR2 is a Windows only release? You'd think a similar utility would exist for Windows though! I know Apple's dodgy keyboard driver passes the F/N key to some extent, because it works in conjunction with the F keys to tweak brightness, volume etc. If you'd like, I can drop the KeyRemap4Macbook developer a line to see if he has any suggestions. He's implemented some tweaks specifically for Boot Camp users in his other utility, and seems to get his jollies from remapping, so maybe he'd be able to shed some light. Hi Shaun, I don't want to be rude or anything, but Che did have a point.. A lot of times you come off as knowing a lot of things you don't, and when someone goes back and checks your facts they find out they are either outright wrong or out of date etc. All I am saying is before you start saying this or that you really need to get your facts straight. However, as this thread is about Rail Racer than you I'll stop here on that subject. As for former beta testers I imagine Che will allow us to get it for an upgrade price. Whatever that may be. Still paying $39 for a game isn't bad considering the quality of the game over all. The ability to chat, the online racing, the extra tracks, etc makes it a very decent game despite the licensing etc. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer 2 info
Hi, That's good to know. However, personally I think you should not use this agressive of a DRM. It's good to know we can get new keys if need be, but it's still somewhat of a choar and personally I'm really against a per-machine licensing scheme. If you'd like it to be online activated, OK. Then let a key be able to register, say, 3 machines, and let someone deactivate any of their computers when needed. In the passed year, I would have had to get at least 3 new keys for this reason because A, my PC died and I moved, and then I was going through upgrades for windows 8, first the release preview, then the final build which both wiped everything off my drive. Now microsoft is moving to a yearly update cycle, and if people are going to be upgrading to new windows versions it will just get really annoying having to request new keys every time. true tom, truth is the info I have is mostly what was posted on here or forums ages ago sometimes there has not been a public update for ages, naturally I'd post the correct info if it was updated, I sertainly don't know all I wish to sertainly I may act like one via my writing but I only ever go on what is publically posted, and sertainly if thats wrong unless its appeared somewhere other than the list or forums I check often or I happen to miss it on the odd occations while away which is seldom, I am truely sorry At 12:38 AM 4/17/2013, you wrote: Hi Shaun, I don't want to be rude or anything, but Che did have a point.. Cheers! Hello Che. Good news about rr2. presumably you wouldn't mind me posting basically what you've said in this mail on the audiogames.net news. Myself, a discount for the upgrade seems reasonable to me, since on the one hand you've done a lot of work on the game, while on the other since I did! perchice the license rebuying from scratch wouldn't be quite as fun considdering that all the old tracks and similar upgrades are still in rr2, so to me that is a perfect compromise and I will doubtless buy the game when it comes out. As to keys, well I was already provided with a new key for rr1 when i bought a new desktop, so no complaints from me on that score. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer 2 info
Hi Che, I don't blame you a bit for wanting to charge for the Rail Racer upgrade. I know as well as anyone what a chore it can be to upgrade existing code, to add new features, to test compatibility with new operating systems, whatever. So fully respect the fact you want to get paid for it. That only seems natural to me since mainstream developers also charge for new upgrades and new game content. I'll be looking forward to trying the new demo when it comes out. As to the list issues I'll discuss those with you off list as I do agree those things need to be fixed, and have been trying for about a month to correct them with moderate success. A new demo will be released as I finish RR 2, allowing folks to create and play user created tracks all they want, they just won't be able to play official tracks to earn money, nor play on line until they purchase a license. The folks that are currently beta testing purchased a new license for $39.95, which will be the price of the sequel. They of course will get all upgrades as new versions come out. Those that purchased RR 1 will receive a discount on the purchase of RR2, at this point I haven't decided how much that discount will be, but will update the list as we near final. Some folks will feel this isn't fair, that they should get rr 2 for free if they purchased rr 1, as it is basically an updated version of the original game with new content, I can completely understand this stance, but this is the same model used in main stream games, you don't get a free version of madden football 2012 if you bought 2011. The developers feel the purchase price is worth the extra content, and I agree with them, many won't concur with this purchase model, and that is fine. Again, I will update the list about rr2 with more details as we get closer to release. I will be checking the list for any responses to this email, and I ask that folks please respect the subject line and not change topic without changing the subject. This is one major reason I rarely check the list anymore, I'll see a subject line that sounds interesting, open it up and its totally unrelated to the subject line, very frustrating, time wasting, and inconsiderate overall. Also, this is already a large message, be sure and delete the content before replying or your response may go over the size limit and be rejected. Thanks for your patience in waiting for RR2, I feel the wait will be very worth it. Take care, and I look forward to seeing
Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer 2 info
hmmm then where did the news about all new computers needing the user to buy a key then? I don't like being incorrect in my info but last I heard but this was years ago mind you back when I think rr 1.3 or 4 was out that users would have to buy a new key for pcs because some were sharing. If that went away with no notice well fine. I thought that was in stone and accepted it would be that way. Ofcause I would only be buying for my system well 1 box and maybe another but 1 is all I can use at once so. At 09:43 AM 4/16/2013, you wrote: Hello Che. Hi che. That's great news! I've wondered what's happened to rr recently as last time I tried the online option didn't seem to be working, and frankly I've always found the track editer a bit of a pain. Having a demo for people to create and race tracks is a great idea I think and should bring more people into playing the game. yeah. My other issue is buying an ide for each system. I already spent 30 us and thats a lot in nz currency. I don't really care to buy the game over and over again for each system. So if the licence can be secured with an account based system or something where its harder to get at it then so be it. Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer online problems
Hi Bryce, Sorry for the trouble with online racing. Since starting the card room at Blind adrenaline, RR has taken a backseat given my limited amount of time to devote to the various projects. I had hoped to have RR 2.0 out by this time this year, but a couple of issues have set me back. Right now, the online server is down as I prepare for the new release of RR, and I hope very soon to have the RR email list and online racing community active, where folks can share tracks, arrange races, and bet their race winnings against each other in racing competitions. Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer online problems
Good to know you are working on rr2. My I suggest a slight improvement to the licence. In dvd audio extracter when you brought the game you had to get your id to generate a licence. When you brought your game you got a licence added to your account. More coppies = more licences for more systems. You could download the licence to your system and run it. Although you couldn't use the same licence on multipul systems you could reassign the licence for such things as machine id changing due to format or hardware change or put it on a new system but you could only do one system at a time. I am not sure if it checks for things but if it does if a machine is already using a licence and you only have one licence to start with then you can't use another machine without reassigning. Hi Bryce, I'll make a recording of me racing Everest, however it is difficult to actually show' a correct turn. Basically, you use the l or j key for right or left respectively. Hi Scott, If you race online, you don't need to pay entry fee. It's a way to test your configurations without losing any money. 锦发/Steady Goh - Original Message - From: Scott Chesworth To: Gamers Discussion list Sent: Thursday, April 02, 2009 1:14 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Rail racer - looking for a way to avoid losing moneywhilst configuring a control pad Hi all, I purchased Rail Racer a week ago, finally getting a chance to sit down with it now. So, I've won a few races with the keyboard, won a few with the mouse, but seeing as I'm a console boy at heart and I found a cheapo USB controller I never knew I had earlier, I thought I'd have a crack at using that. I would stick with the mouse, but I was racing using one of those laptop trackpad style setups and I'm not sure it actually gave me any more control. So, my question is... is there a way to quit a race without forfitting and losing the entry fee? Reason I ask is, this pad doesn't seem to be playing ball particularly well yet, and I'm losing stupid amounts of money here by reconfiguring testing and forfitting upon failure each time. Re: [Audyssey] Rail racer - looking for a way to avoid losing money whilst configuring a control pad
well on topspeed I made a track that was rediculously long. My reason was not to race, its to long for a real race. but I wanted to test all the new stupid mods of cars. the cars themselves are not stupid but really are to fast some of them and some are good ideas but take to long to get up to speed. So I made a track for testing modded cars called fast and furious. I guess I could have named it test track or something but I was bored one day. there are no turns, no anything just zoom. Interestingly some of the mods that I thought wouldn't score well scored faster than the actual cars on the track. Due to the stupditity of the car funracer will be disqualified from any test. So far the high performance car tops out almost every time. At 10:39 a.m. 2/04/2009, you wrote: Hi. You can make a track to try it on. That's how I did mine. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer key
Personally I thought the list was here for discussion of games, not as a tech support list for those having issues with games. I understand the odd spoiler question or asking for help with gameplay, but it seems more and more like the list is turning towards technical issues, most of which the developer of said game is more than happy to help with. I only answered because I was trying to stop something like this from happening. Of course, by sending this I'm just furthering the cause, so I'll stop being hipocritical now. Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer Key.
You will need multiple keys for multiple computers. In the past, I have given those keys out for free to registered customers. Unfortunately, I found out folks were taking advantage of my generosity, so from now on you will have to purchase a seperate key for each new system. However, if you are a registered purchaser of Rail Racer, I will sell the extra key at a reduced price, basically half off the purchase price of $39.95. To get this price though, you have to email me directly at c...@blindadrenaline.com If you have questions about this, feel free to email me off list as well. Regarding the complaints about subject matter, I think constantine had the best suggestion. Just group your messages, hit that delete key and no worries. Barring that, you can email a moderator and complain about it, but since this particular question was about accessible gaming, I think you'll be spitting up a rope, but who knows, maybe you'll find Thomas to be in a particularly aggressive mood and he'll start kicking folks off left and right at the point of an archeologist's knife. I would think that this info should be found in the user's guide and or in the license agreement that comes with the game. You could also correspond directly with the game manufacturer. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer key
Are your questions answered in the game manual or by the developer? I think the list is here for issues that cannot be solved through common sense or knowledge. All I did was to maybe steer you in the right direction to find your answer, using the most commonly available avenue. There's no need to jump on people for doing this. Simply try their advice, and, if it doesn't get you the answer you need, then you can ask on the list after trying the advice, plain and simple. HTH --- Laughter is the best medicine. Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer tournament was Rail Racer Key.
Rail Racer tournament is open for signing up and round 1 will kick off on Friday. This time will be on the 40 newly added tracks which most of them are at high classes. Racers who are at class 10 or higher can sign up for the tournament. Round 1 will be on blind spot which is a class 5 track and round 2 on quick reflexes, class 6. The 40 new tracks are compiled into a single zip file. You can get it at www.blindAdrenaline.com/uploads/allOfficialTracks.zip If you already downloaded some of the tracks from the official tracks site, just answer no when ask if you want to replace the files. See you on the tracks. Happy racing. Let's not continue arguing on the tini wini thing and spend your precious time practicing instead. Btw, the rr key is tied to a single computer. Last I heard is Che will charge a bit for the second key. 锦发/Steady Goh - Original Message - From: Steve To: Gamers Discussion list Sent: Wednesday, March 25, 2009 11:34 AM Subject: [Audyssey] Rail Racer Key. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer questions
Hi, this is Che, the developer of rail racer, sorry for the delayed response, been busy with other stuff the past few weeks. Regarding multi player racing, you are given a list of tracks to race on, once you select a track, it is started on my server and is open for other racers to join. naming the race is not necessary, just let your friends know what track to meet on. We have tested races with 20 players at once with no slow down, although the average race is 3 or 4 players. as it stands, you cannot limit the number of racers. if you are used to top speed, rail racers MP racing isn't like that at all. instead of connecting to another players computer to race, you connect to my high speed dedicated server, which makes things much easier and more reliable, no looking up IP addresses and all that. as for a tutorial, i haven't done one, though I can if it is needed. however, i do include MP instructions in the online manual, which can be located at my site: www.blindAdrenaline.com From the feedback I have received from players, this is the best online system currently available to us blind gamers, due to the ease of use and reliability of the dedicated server, and will be the model for my upcoming games, one of which should be released in time for christmas, so keep up with the list here, as i will be announcing it here when it is ready for play. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer questions
Hi Tyler, The game is smart enough not to let you race on atrack that is to difficult for you. All of the various tracks have a class rating. If you are only a class 1 or class 2 racer it won't let you race on tracks that are rated class 3 and above. It is as simple as that. As far as not having something all I can say is save your earnings from the races you win. Do a lot of practice off line so that you can purchase all of the upgrades you can before going on to a multiplayer race that requires a certain upgrade to race a difficult track. Now, as I recall if you are say a class 5 racer with all upgrades and you play a multiplayer game with a class 1 racer some of your upgrades will be disabled so you and the class 1 racer will have somewhat of a fun and fair race. Rail Racer won't let a class 5 racer play with all upgrades enabled on a clas 1 track with a new class 1 racer. It is smart enough to even it out so the race is fair. It will be your skill and experience that will give you the advantage on that track and not all kinds of upgrades. Now, Che can correct me on this because I am really not sure. I believe if you want to install and play Rail Racer on 4 computers you must purchase a key for each system. Che is using a hardware key system so that his games aren't being abused and pirated. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi, Sorry, I don't think I made it clear in my previous post , (getting a bit dsoft in the head in my old age), I try to be generous with folks that have multiple computers, as I do myself, and it just isn't feasible to buy a separate license for each, or really fair for that matter in my opinion, so I allow an extra license for those with another computer, but you will need to email me directly after purchase to receive it. Also, I hope to have a new tournament started in the next couple of weeks for all those that might be interested. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer new verssion.
Hi, try this. First, start rail racer and backup your settings to the web. Quit out of the game when is done. Next, go to c:\program files\rail racer and delete config.xml. Now, unzip the files from rr153Update.zip to c:\program files\rail racer. You should then be able to load the game. Retrieve your settings from the web and you are good to go. ps: There is a pre tournament race tonight at 11pm eastern on daytona. Hi Will, No. When you get Rail Racer Che will direct you to a private download area where you get the full version of RR. After you download and install it you install the patch and register it. That is assuming your setup file is 1.3 or an earlier release. I am sure Che has updated the official RR download to 1.4 by now. will lomas wrote: Hi to all Can i register the demo of rail racer? Re: [Audyssey] Rail-Racer
Hi Jeremy, evenings are most popular but tournaments are when it gets real busy so join the rr mailing list to discover all. Here is the relevant bit from the rr instructions about money and classes. You earn money for winning races, as you earn more money you will move up in class ranking, which will allow you to purchase higher level upgrades to your racer Also, as you move up in class you will open up more and more tracks of harder difficulty For example, to get to class 2, you must have at least $50,000 in your account Here are the class breakdowns: class 2 5 class 3 10 class 4 20 class 5 30 Class 6 40 Class 7 50 Class 8 60 Class 9 70 Class 10 80 Class 11 1 million Class 12 1.2 million Class 13 1.5 million Class 14 1.8 million Class 15 2.2 million Right now, this is as far as the classes go, but if needed I can introduce more classes to the game in future releases. The higher the class ranking of the track, the more money you earn for winning Note that the lower track classes will automatically turn off some of your upgrades, for example you cannot use a supercharger on a class 1 track Additionally, you will be able to post your fastest lap and course times to a online board to see how you compare to the other Rail Racers out there. You can also add to your bank account by betting money against your friends online, if you beat your opponent in the race, you will win whatever money you bet Got all that? Good! See you on the mp track.
