Hi Everyone,

I don't know if all of you have heard of the JAWS speech history. I just
heard of it the other day. With the JAWS speech history you can copy and
paste what JAWS speaks. For example it you have a message or an error
message come up you can go to the JAWS speech history and copy it and
paste
it into an email. Here is how you do it. If you want to copy something
which

was recently spoken like an error message or something like that, just use
the layered keystroke Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by H for history.

This will bring up the Speech History and all Jaws has recently spoken
is

displayed in a virtual viewer

You can use Control+End to go to the bottom of the virtual viewer as
whatever was said last will be listed at the bottom.

If you end up with a lot of stuff in the speech history you can use the
layered keystroke Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+H to clear the
virtual

viewer containing this speech history.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Cancilation of win 10

2015-08-17 Thread Michael Boyd
The only thing that will happen as a result of your reservation, is that the
installation file will be downloaded to your computer. yYou have complete
control of when, where, and how you choose to install the OS or not. It will
not automatically be installed onto your computer. If you should decide that
you do not want Win 10 at all, then simply delete the installation file from
your downloads folder.

Hello,

It's a visual thing, meaning Jaws cannot get to the link to cancel it.
May I suggest calling Microsoft accessibility number and have someone there
assist you.
They will tandum with your computer and quickly uncheck that item for you.

Here's the number and web site:

Oh no, not sure at all. Start typing the address and he addresses will
automatically populate. You can even arrow down through the addresses that
is populated to get to the right one that you want to insert. Once he found
the one you want, you can stop yelling down in that one will automatically

[JAWS-Users] Program that is JAWS friendly to play movies on DVD.

2015-08-17 Thread Tim Ford
The only accessible player I know of is from IRTI, and costs $29.95 via
download; $59.95 if you want them to ship you the install CD. Although you
can use it just fine with JAWS running, it has its own voice, and works best
in that mode, so when you bring up the program, it is best to put JAWS to
sleep by either exiting JAWS, or better yet, putting JAWS to sleep with the
insert key space bar, then s.

Here is the link to all the info. You will for sure want the instruction
manual, which IRTI can give you, also by download or email attachment.
I have the software, and it works just fine. It also gives you direct
access to picking the audio described track if one exists on the DVD.

Hi, I am looking for a program that is jaws friendly, and accessible, I will
play movies on DVD. I am just 16 and Windows 8. I want to be able to
navigate the menus, as some of my DVDs are TV shows, and I want to be able
to select episodes. Thank you. I am using jaws 16 and Windows 8.1.

[JAWS-Users] amazon research it problem and fix

2015-08-17 Thread Shane Hecker
Okay, for those having issues with amazon research it, I found out what
the problem is and how to fix it.
problem: Go to www.amazon.com/access. Sign in with an amazon account.
Then close your browser. When you use the amazon research it function at
this point, you will not get results.
cause: I suspect the reason for this is 2 fold. Amazon likely places a
cookie on your computer when you sign in that tells the browser to go to
the amazon.com/access site, rather than the full site. As a result, this
screws with the research it utility.
fix: Open your browser, go to www.amazon.com. then hit the sign out
link. Close your browser. Now, try the research it function. It will
work as expected.
Hope this helps as I know some folks here are having issues with this.
Have a good day.

[JAWS-Users] Using the JAWS history to copy text or messages.

2015-08-17 Thread Pinky
Hi Everyone,

I don't know if all of you have heard of the JAWS speech history. I just
heard of it the other day. With the JAWS speech history you can copy and
paste what JAWS speaks. For example it you have a message or an error
message come up you can go to the JAWS speech history and copy it and paste
it into an email. Here is how you do it. If you want to copy something which
was recently spoken like an error message or something like that, just use
the layered keystroke Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by H for history.

This will bring up the Speech History and all Jaws has recently spoken is
displayed in a virtual viewer

You can use Control+End to go to the bottom of the virtual viewer as
whatever was said last will be listed at the bottom.

If you end up with a lot of stuff in the speech history you can use the
layered keystroke Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+H to clear the virtual
viewer containing this speech history.

I hope it works for you. The way I figured out what was going on is what
comes up when bringing up the amazon site. If you go to www.amazon.com,
which site comes up? Is it the full site or is it the site designed for
screen readers? If it's the one for screen readers, then research it
won't work. If it's the full site, it should work. When I first had this
problem, I mentioned that on one machine it worked fine, while on the
other it didn't. Figures since on the desktop, I haven't logged into my

I've never figured out how to use the journal. I use notes all the time.
Here are some of my comments about notes:

With Control+Shift+n, it is really easy to open a new note and jot down
notes about anything you want.

During a phone call I create a note and jot down notes from the conversation

create a note to keep a To-Do list throughout the day by adding items as I
think of them, and deleting them as they are completed.,

If someone is giving me their contact information, I put it in a note, and
then copy and paste the various pieces of information into a contact when I
have more time.

Just press Escape when you are done with the note. It is automatically
saved in the Notes folder.

I have my notes arranged in a list with the newest note at the top of the
list.

When you do not need a note any more, navigate to the note in the list, and
press the delete key just as you do to delete an e-mail message.

The notes look like a small square sticky note. Those with sight change the
colors of the notes to represent a category of note.

I do believe that you can assign an Outlook category to a note just as you
can do with a message.

You can create subfolders under the Notes folder and moves notes into the
folders, or create a new note while you are in that folder.

Can you tell that I love the notes feature and I use them all of the time?

Navigate to the different fields with Tab and Shift+Tab

If you are in your contacts, Control+n will open a new contact. Be aware,
that when you are in your Inbox or any other mail folder, Control+n will
create a new message, and if you are in notes, it will create a new note.

Control+Shift+m will create a new message from anywhere in Outlook, and

Is there some way to turn the numb lock on/off.

There is a key, where the normal numb lock is. Not sure what it is called.

Anyone have experience with this keyboard? Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Getting rid of back stage view

2015-08-17 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Carolyn,

My message to someone else on the list showed steps for not using the
backstage view when opening and saving files. After showing those steps I
listed steps for Word not to open the backstage area when opening the
program. There are two sets of steps in my message. The first four were
for when opening and saving documents, the second set of four steps was for
when opening Word. I am pasting them below. The Don't show backstage
view that you referred to was covered in the first set of steps dealing
with opening and saving files and not for when opening Word. You might want
to try the second set of four steps to stop Word from opening the backstage
view when you start it. Feel free to contact me if I can be of further
help.

1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. Press S to move to the Save category.
3. Tab to the checkbox don't show the backstage when opening or saving
files and press spacebar to check it.
4. Tab to OK and use spacebar.

If you also don't want the backstage opening when you open word do the
following:

1. Press Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. The first category is general. Tab across the options in this category.
When you get to the Show the start screen when this application starts
checkbox use spacebar to uncheck it if it is checked.
3. Tab to OK and press spacebar.
4. Close Word and open it again to make sure your options stayed as you set
them. If not then you might try restarting your system.

Unfortunately, Don't show backstage view is checked, computer turned off,
restarted. While it is still checked, backstage view still appears, and I
have to hit Control N to get a word document. This computer is trying to
outsmart me.

Fix it or live with it,

Hello Gang:

When in Microsoft Word 2013, I usually do control O then shift tab twice to
the document list. But, I ran into something called back stage view.

How do I find the check box to uncheck the back stage view?

I saw a post about it several months ago. But, did not file or save the
information. So, I know y'all know the answer.

 Thanks. Neil

Yes, however, once I upgraded to the 6 have not been able to get mine to
connect. To be fair, I only tried one time. I also have a Focus 14
braille
display which connected immediately, just not used to using it much.

You may believe it is perfect, I never expected iTunes to cook my
dinner, I can do that myself, even if I wish someone would do it for me
  occasionally.

I'd like to see what I wish to see when I open the program instead of
having to tab through a ton of places that I will never use on the
computer, I listen to music using my iPhone and speakers, not the
computer. I do, however, wish to get most updates on the computer, and
I do wish to have backups in iCloud and on my computer, occasionally,
usually weekly at least and I did prefer to remove applications I was no
longer using the computer, which is now more convoluted than it was.
If it were not for the syncing capability and the backups, I'd probably
never connect the phone to a computer.
As to the search capability, it seems broken to me and any time I can
use a real keyboard to type something in I am more satisfied, I can use
the phone but I still prefer a keyboard with good key travel and size.

Personally I don't see any difference in the latest iTunes update, it
is
still clunky and so far as I can tell there is no way into the app
store
to
perform a search. I still have to press way too many tabs, and F6 for
me
rotates between about three different things, none of which I
generally
want
  to see.
I use it mostly for backups and until 12 for searches. I still think
it
could be improved with keystrokes to get you out of music and into
what
one
really wants to see, in my case, battery status when phone is plugged
in,
ability to know if there are updates, info on last backup and ability
to
perform them, and search like we had in 11 that went directly to the
app
store and where we could type in a phrase and see reasonable results.
In
other words, I want my side bar and my apps that show up in a list ...
but
that is too much to ask, the keep making accessibility worse and more
worse
  in my humble opinion.

Apple Music also is still as confusing as ever, especially the FOR YOU
tab.
Makes absolutely no sense and it never seem to remain after you
attempt to
select what you like or love and never deletes what you do not like.

Come on Apple, stop breaking things, or leave a help guide to explain
  things.
It is 110 degrees here, I am already too hot.
  Yes, phone is updated also.

iTunes is accessible with JAWS 16, but it is not, and never will be
convenient to work with.

You would need to go to preferences.
Press ALT+f, right arrow one time, up arrow one time and press enter.
Use control+tab to go through the different tabs, using the tab key to
go
  across all the different controls.
On the advanced tab, there is a control about back up.
I manually back up my music, I have not tried this control, give it a
shot.
  hope this helps...

Yes, however, once I upgraded to the 6 have not been able to get mine to

Stop treating me like a moron because I don't see things the same way
you do Please! We should be able to disagree without putting one
another down.

2015-08-17 Thread Steve
That is true for NiCad batteriies, not so for the newer batteries that are more
likely Lithium based batteriexs. Those are better left in a state between 20%
and 80% charged; they don't develop memory like the nickel-cadmium batteries
did.

It is good for the battery to unplug the computer every so often, and pretty
much drain it, then plug it up and let the battery recharge. This cycle
keeps the battery from developing a shorter life span on each charge.

Trish,

Is that an OEM battery? Did it come from the manufacturer? if not, and what
it sounds like, is that the computer is not recognizing it, and probably not
charging it. You have to be very careful when purchasing new batteries and
or chargers for laptop computers because of this problem. Many companies
sell batteries that they say are compatible, and they will fit into your
computer, but they will not work. The other problem is that the computer
companies charge way, way, way too much for their replacement batteries.

Hello again,

You know how it goes, there's days all is rocking along fine, then other
days...

I had to replace my laptop's battery, so now in the tray, it's just stating
still no battery detected how can I find out what the status of it is when
it's charged?

I poked around in device mgr via control panel and found some battery info,
it gave 3 choices, but that wasn't wehere I think I needed to be.

I then tried the Power setting in control panel, didn't find it there, guess
next attempt will be a search.

Oh no, not sure at all. Start typing the address and he addresses will
automatically populate. You can even arrow down through the addresses that is
populated to get to the right one that you want to insert. Once he found the

entered to attend the next one, press enter key now I hope this helps.

I've hard of some laptops where you must activate the Fn key in conjunction

If you end up with a lot of stuff in the speech history you can use the
layered keystroke Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+H to clear the virtual
viewer containing this speech history.

the up and down arrows to look for it. If the person is in my contact list
or if I have ever sent an email to that person it should show up. When it
does press tap to go to the next field. If I can't find that person that
