Hi Everyone, I don't know if all of you have heard of the JAWS speech history. I just heard of it the other day. With the JAWS speech history you can copy and paste what JAWS speaks. For example it you have a message or an error message come up you can go to the JAWS speech history and copy it and paste it into an email. Here is how you do it. If you want to copy something which was recently spoken like an error message or something like that, just use the layered keystroke Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by H for history. This will bring up the Speech History and all Jaws has recently spoken is displayed in a virtual viewer You can use Control+End to go to the bottom of the virtual viewer as whatever was said last will be listed at the bottom. If you end up with a lot of stuff in the speech history you can use the layered keystroke Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+H to clear the virtual viewer containing this speech history. Re: [JAWS-Users] Cancilation of win 10
The only thing that will happen as a result of your reservation, is that the installation file will be downloaded to your computer. yYou have complete control of when, where, and how you choose to install the OS or not. It will not automatically be installed onto your computer. If you should decide that you do not want Win 10 at all, then simply delete the installation file from your downloads folder. [JAWS-Users] amazon research it problem and fix
Okay, for those having issues with amazon research it, I found out what the problem is and how to fix it. problem: Go to www.amazon.com/access. Sign in with an amazon account. Then close your browser. When you use the amazon research it function at this point, you will not get results. cause: I suspect the reason for this is 2 fold. Amazon likely places a cookie on your computer when you sign in that tells the browser to go to the amazon.com/access site, rather than the full site. As a result, this screws with the research it utility. fix: Open your browser, go to www.amazon.com. then hit the sign out link. Close your browser. Now, try the research it function. It will work as expected. Hope this helps as I know some folks here are having issues with this. Have a good day. [JAWS-Users] Using the JAWS history to copy text or messages.
Re: [JAWS-Users] amazon research it problem and fix
I hope it works for you. The way I figured out what was going on is what comes up when bringing up the amazon site. If you go to www.amazon.com, which site comes up? Is it the full site or is it the site designed for screen readers? If it's the one for screen readers, then research it won't work. If it's the full site, it should work. When I first had this problem, I mentioned that on one machine it worked fine, while on the other it didn't. Figures since on the desktop, I haven't logged into my amazon account. During a phone call I create a note and jot down notes from the conversation create a note to keep a To-Do list throughout the day by adding items as I think of them, and deleting them as they are completed., If someone is giving me their contact information, I put it in a note, and then copy and paste the various pieces of information into a contact when I have more time. Just press Escape when you are done with the note. It is automatically saved in the Notes folder. I have my notes arranged in a list with the newest note at the top of the list. When you do not need a note any more, navigate to the note in the list, and press the delete key just as you do to delete an e-mail message. The notes look like a small square sticky note. Those with sight change the colors of the notes to represent a category of note. I do believe that you can assign an Outlook category to a note just as you can do with a message. You can create subfolders under the Notes folder and moves notes into the folders, or create a new note while you are in that folder. Re: [JAWS-Users] Getting rid of back stage view
Hello Carolyn, My message to someone else on the list showed steps for not using the backstage view when opening and saving files. After showing those steps I listed steps for Word not to open the backstage area when opening the program. There are two sets of steps in my message. The first four were for when opening and saving documents, the second set of four steps was for when opening Word. I am pasting them below. The Don't show backstage view that you referred to was covered in the first set of steps dealing with opening and saving files and not for when opening Word. You might want to try the second set of four steps to stop Word from opening the backstage view when you start it. Feel free to contact me if I can be of further help. 1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options. 2. Press S to move to the Save category. 3. Tab to the checkbox don't show the backstage when opening or saving files and press spacebar to check it. 4. Tab to OK and use spacebar. If you also don't want the backstage opening when you open word do the following: 1. Press Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options. 2. The first category is general. Tab across the options in this category. When you get to the Show the start screen when this application starts checkbox use spacebar to uncheck it if it is checked. 3. Tab to OK and press spacebar. 4. Close Word and open it again to make sure your options stayed as you set them. If not then you might try restarting your system. Re: [JAWS-Users] Battery Status
That is true for NiCad batteriies, not so for the newer batteries that are more likely Lithium based batteriexs. Those are better left in a state between 20% and 80% charged; they don't develop memory like the nickel-cadmium batteries did. - Original Message - From: Michael Boyd To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, August 14, 2015 5:13 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Battery Status It is good for the battery to unplug the computer every so often, and pretty much drain it, then plug it up and let the battery recharge. You have to be very careful when purchasing new batteries and or chargers for laptop computers because of this problem. Many companies sell batteries that they say are compatible, and they will fit into your computer, but they will not work. The other problem is that the computer companies charge way, way, way too much for their replacement batteries. Here's what I do. In the, to, box, I start typing the name of the person I am emailing. If that name doesn't come up after a few letters, then I use the up and down arrows to look for it. If the person is in my contact list or if I have ever sent an email to that person it should show up. When it does press tap to go to the next field. If I can't find that person that way, I know I have to put them in my contacts list.
