Re: [JAWS-Users] Why does the way JAWS is displaying Outlook messages change?
It tends to happen with lengthy messages that contain tables. It also happens more often with JAWS 2018 than JAWS 18. I just now had to switch from 2018 to 18 to read such a message. That said, the IE method takes little time and sometimes has the advantage of putting me on the Web, where I'm likely to link from anyway. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of JOHN RIEHL Sent: Tuesday, January 30, 2018 6:29 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Why does the way JAWS is displaying Outlook messages change? Re: [JAWS-Users] Bit Locker
Hi Michelle and Brian, I am also fighting with BitLocker. Sometimes I am successful with the count and wait method and other times I am not. When I do not get to my desktop successfully, I do a FaceTime call with anyone who I can find is available, or I use my Aira Glass. I must say, I am facinated with how we each are having a slightly different experience when dealing with BitLocker. Right before my laptop is ready for me to start the login process, I hear JAWS start to announce it's original message, but it gets clipped off. I count to 15, and then start the various steps. I am using a Dell 7470 with windows10. I as well find it a bit frustrating to not be able to hear if the laptop is on. Hi Mr. Ed, Try the following: 1. Open the Settings Center with the keystroke, Insert / Jaws Key + 6, on the number row. Or Settings Center Default all applications by pressing, Control, Shift, + D, after pressing the Jaws Key + 6, keystroke. This setting can be modified in an individual application, or in all applications. 2. Now arrow down to, Miscellaneous Closed, it's #21 of 22, & right arrow to open. 3. Arrow down to, Error Reporting, it's #13 of 13. Use the spacebar to toggle through the 3 settings. The 3 settings are 1. Ask me if I want to send error reports to Freedom Scientific each time. This is the default. 2. Always send error reports to Freedom Scientific. 3. Never send error reports to Freedom Scientific. 4. If you make a change tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change & close. Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. Re: [JAWS-Users] Can't download or install OE
Hi Vicki, In Windows 7, Internet Explorer11, you would not look for Windows Defender, , instead open Internet Explorer, then open the tools menu, and then internet options. Next, go to the advanced tab, and down arrow to security , then arrow to disable smart screen filter, and check it with the spacebar Tab to the okay button, and spacebar it to accept the changes and close the internet options dialogue. Finally, alt F4 to close Internet Explorer, then reopen it and try your download. HTH, Rick Justice "Tomorrow's another day, another way!" Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freezing
Smile, yes that is tricky with small hands. If you set the keyboartd to laptop layout you will have assigned the caps lokc key as an altermate jaws modifier. I recommend doing this anyway as it gives you a second jaws modifier key, which makes certain keystrokes easier. If you need the caps lock, you can always double tap the caps lock key to turn on caps lock temporarily. Just remember to toggle it off when you are finished with it. You can then hold the windows and caps lock key with one hand, reach up with your right hand and press f4. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of rosecomb...@cox.net Sent: January 30, 2018 12:37 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freezing OK, now tell me how I am to reach all these keys at once on a keyboard with one left Windows key? [JAWS-Users] Why does the way JAWS is displaying Outlook messages change?
I'm using the latest JAWS and Outlook-2010. Very frequently, for no apparent reason, JAWS messages in Outlook become very difficult to read. Instead of a nice and readable message, JAWS will say stuff like: nesting level x; table; nesting level 3, etc etc; the actual text is very difficult to read. Exiting JAWS and restarting the program fixes the problem for a while. What's going on and how can I fix it? Thanks. [JAWS-Users] MP3 Ripper Question
Afternoon all. I have a question regarding MP3 Ripper. Using JAWS 2018, MP3 Ripper 6.0.6 and Windows 10 on a delllaptop, I am trying to copy an audio cd to my computer. I am using an external CD/DVD Rom drive. However, when I go into the menus and try to select the drive itself, I cannot find it; only my internal drive. I go to the file menu, and find a submenu for the cd drives, and my internal is checked, but have no idea as to how to change drives or select another one. I know my laptop recognizes the disk itself as I can play it with VLC media player. Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks in advance. [JAWS-Users] Bit Locker
Hello, I truly hope someone on the list can answer this one. Recently, Bid Locker was installed on a new computer my employer provided me for telework and it has given me the absolute blues! When I turn on the computer, JAWS does not speak. So how am I supposed to know when to attempt to log-in? I had the Help Desk call Freedom Scientific to get instructions on starting JAWS at Start Up. However, that does not work. Plus, with laptops being much quieter now, I cannot even determine if the thing is on! Any suggestions or comments? Right now, I make sure I am aided by my roommate prior to him leaving for work, but, if I allow the computer to go into sleep mode, I am lost and the balance of my work day is compromised. I just want to telework like I used to prior to all this security. Help! Thanks, Michelle For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can't download or install OE
It's a filter created by Microsoft. You can turn it off. If you happen to use internet Explorer, I believe there is an option for 'smart screen filtering" in the internet options somewhere. It's been a long time since I used IE. There's also a setting for this in Windows Defender in Windows 10. If you search in the settings app, you will find it under "smart screen". You can set it to "block", "warn", or "off". -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Arianna Calesso Sent: January 30, 2018 12:09 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Can't download or install OE I've been trying to install OE from the JAWS users list and I get a message saying that smart screen has blocked the download. Great question about how to reach the keys... I'll tell you the two ways I do it. 1. I have a desktop keyboard. The first way is to move my right hand to the NumPad and press and hold the Zero/Insert Key with my thumb. 2. Then with my left thumb on the Windows Key, rather than the ALT Key, I reach up with left index finger to find the F4 Key and press. The second option. Since I always run JAWS with Laptop Layout (even when on a desktop keyboard), I can press the CapsLock and WinKey with the left hand, and use my right hand to locate and press the F4 Key. HTH. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freezing
You can also go into the JAWS Settings Center and configure the insert key to work as a sticky key. That way, it can be pressed by itself first and then whatever other keys are in the command. I had mine set this way and find it much easier. It works for both insert keys. HTH. [JAWS-Users] Dump Files or Jaws Error Reports, Where They're StoredFw: Location of Jaws Error Reports
Hi All, As you already know, when you press Windows+Insert+f4, Jaws generates an error report file. The root folder where Jaws error reports are stored is c:\users\YourUserName\App Data\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\Reports\jfw. The thing to be aware of however, is that the location within this folder where a particular report is stored will vary based on whether or not you chose to have Jaws send that report to Freedom scientific. This behavior can be configured in settings center by changing the error reporting option. Any reports that Jaws has already sent to Freedom Scientific will be placed in the Sent folder. If you have error reporting set to automatically send, then all your reports will appear here. Any reports that have yet to be sent, or that you have chosen not to send will be placed in a folder called User Hold. Regardless of which folder the report is saved in, it will be a file with a .cab extension, and its name will look something like this: jfw2018.1801.18_887.cab. In Settings Center the option to change how you want these error reports delivered or not is in the, Miscellaneous, heading, & it's #13 of 13. Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freezing
Hello Eric Thanks for this command. I get this freezing problem frequently. Where on the pc is the dump file saved? Regards Fanus From: Eric Damery Sent: Monday, January 29, 2018 6:32 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freezing Hello list, The dump command (JAWSKey+WindowsKey+F4) will restart JAWS automatically while it creates a dump file to show what was happening at the time of the loss of speech. It would be potentially very helpful to contact the Support department and offer the Dump File with an explanation of what you were doing when it the loss of speech occurred and how often you are seeing this. These issues are difficult to track down as they happen randomly and most certainly have something to do with JAWS interacting with UIA from Windows. We are making progress on this every day and appreciate your continued feedback and support in tracking these down. I did not think this keystroke automatically restarted JAWS? I'd better give it a try. Usually I just kill JAWS with task manager, or nowadays, process explorer, since task manager got ridiculously slow and basically unusable lately. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: January 29, 2018 10:48 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freezing I'm not sure it's been mentioned in this thread, but when I experience freezing for a few seconds, I press JAWS key+Windows key+F4. This command almost always restarts JAWS within another few seconds. I believe it helps to first alt-ab out of the application where the freeze occurred. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of George Marshall Sent: Monday, January 29, 2018 10:41 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freezing Hi Dave: I have only JAWS 17 and JAWS 2018 on my computer at this time, I would have to go out and download 16, but appreciate your Input.
