[JAWS-Users] can not delete messages in WLM

2011-12-01 Thread lmorris1953
I hope this part of WLM works to send messages because I can not delete
messages from the inbox in WLM. Either I get a windows bell tone or sometimes I
get a message to update the inbox. Not sure if that just means check for new
mail with f5 or something else.

It seems the problem went away here right after I sent that message. BTW,
anybody know how to prevent WLM from automatically sending messages from the
inbox to the trash folder periodically in WLM?

I think it would work better if you used alt and down arrow to open the
combo box. You then should be able to down arrow to the state you want or
even just hit the first letter of the state and press enter.

When I open this bombo box and hit N for New York, I land directly on
Nevada, the first state that begins with the letter N, and it is
automatically selected. There is no way to freeze the combo box so that I
can keep hitting N repeatedly until I land on New York.

Just open it up and hit litter of your state.

At 09:04 AM 11/12/2011, you wrote:

Hi list. I just encountered one of those tricky combo boxes that JAWS has
trouble dealing with. I'm trying to purchase new foam cushions for my
sofa from buyfoam.com, but when I get to the page to calculate shipping
charges, there is a combo box with a list of states. But when I focus on
this combo box and hit Enter to open it and then try to scroll through it
with down arrow or use first letter navigation to select New York, the
first state on the list, Alabama is automatically selected. If I open the
combo box by hitting Enter and then try Alt-down arrow to scroll down the
list of states, I remain stuck on Alabama. There does not appear to be
any way to freeze this list so that you can scroll through it to select
the state you want. As soon as you press the down arrow key, forms mode
is turned off and the first state is selected. Alt-down arrow does not
seem to work. And Insert-F8 just brings up the tool bar. Is there any
work around for this problem? Interestingly, the other combo boxes on
this site seem to work normally. I'm using JAWS 9 with XP. Thanks for
any help.

this as a lot of voices say from NEXTUP.com only work with their own TTS
like software and don't allow the freedom of using those voices
independently with JFW.

I tried to use IVONa's contact form but my JFW11 cant seem to work with that
form. Hence the question to this list.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] GoldWave File Length and Splitting Issue

Hi Folks,

I am attempting to split a large file into smaller chunks and I'm having
trouble with it for the first time ever.

First, the relevant facts...

I'm currently using the latest build of GoldWave and Jaws 12, and the latest
GoldWave scripts from the Jaws-Users scripts page.

I'm also using Windows XP home edition on a Toshiba laptop.

Now the particulars of the case.

The file I'm trying to split is just under 6 and a half hours long, this
according to Winamp, my BookSense XT and the status line under Windows
Explorer.

Once loaded into GoldWave, however, GoldWave reports that the file is only
23 minutes and 17 seconds long after doing a control+A to highlight the
entire file.

I've even attempted to move, both the start and end markers to the end of
the file, and playing on from there, but no go. I can't for the life of me
understand why I can't get past the 23 minutes and 17 second mark.

A few possibly irrelevant facts are that this is an Audible converted file,
and though GoldWave states that there's only 23 minutes in the file, when I
play the file on my BookSense XT, or in Winamp, the entire file is there at
just under six hours and a half. Another possibly irrelevant fact is that
when reading the status bar in Windows Explorer, the status line is reading
the entire file is there at the 6 and a half hours, but it's stating that
it's a quicktime format file, even though the extension is MP3.

If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening, I would appreciate your
input.

Thanks.

Garry, is this better? you make a good point, and this thread did wander a
bit. I did a clean install of jaws and no change to the problem. I still
cannot make alt F Control C or Control V work in the download folder in
Drive C, that comes with windows 7 home premium. If someone has an idea, and
wants to do a tandem session with me, I'm willing. I'll call FS Monday if it
doesn't solve by that time. Smile. Jim

Is the question about repairing JAWS or has the subject not been updated?

I, for one, would appreciate the subject line be referring to the material
in a message.

should work. How can I fix these things so they will work? Jim

Hi all,
I installed jaws from the jaws 12 disk. I think I need to repair it.
Reason... while in the download folder in windows 7, the one on the
C drive, that comes with the machine, alt F and Control C or Control
V do not function. So, I can't move downloaded books out of that
folder, unless I use the applications key and arrow down to either cut

or copy.

Then, I can go to a folder in my documents and move the book there.
But... why don't alt F and Control C etc. no longer work in the
download folder? They do in documents. I am running windows 7 home
premium, jaws 12, on a 64 bit machine. Jim For answers to

Several versions already allow you to maintain the format for pasting in to

Hi Lmorris, to repair Jaws from the dvd: just put your Jaws 12 dvd in your
computer and close the tray, just act like you are installing it for the
first time.
You will come to a screen which will ask you if you want to repair this
version of jaws.

Press the space bar on the repair option.
Jaws will say, Repairing jaws please wait.
After repairing Jaws the program will need you to do a restart of the
computer.

I hope this helps.
You can do a repair off the Jaws dvd, this is the easiest way.

Installation of this product can not continue. To configure or remove the

come up as an option. Maybe FS could consider placing repair or modify as an

roll of the wheel up or down. However, i find, using JAWS12, when
reading a document, that instead it goes up or down by a line of text on
the screen, so that you'd often miss the remainder of the line after 40
cells. Has anyone else found this? Fortunately there are other ways of
reading a complete whole line. But I just thought I'd mention this,
since either I misunderstand what it does or it's not doing what it's
supposed to do (in this case). (I'm using windows xP.) Thanks.

When David talked about Ninite it kind of sounded familiar to me. Then I
remembered I found out about it back in February and while it worked this
time to install ITunes I recall I could not get it to update my Adobe Flash

computer still. I don't know why it won't update Adobe Flash.

Hi Larry,
I did as you said and a Utube video still does nothing and tells me my flash
player is not up-to-date. This happens with both IE8 and 9.
The Ninite site with the flash player tells me, You have version 10.0.0
which is old. Update to 10.3.
I went to my control pannel/programs and found the following:
Adobe flash player 10 plug-in, Adobe systems, 6/8, today's date. If you have
any ideas, I would sure appriciat them.

Ah sorry wrong program you need to look for Flash - there are two of them
you need both.

The ninite installer will check your system and install the relevant version
(32 or 64 bit that is).

[JAWS-Users] ITunes and Jaws scripts

2011-06-08 Thread lmorris1953
I tried several times to install ITunes without success. However I thought I
would give it one more attempt using the Ninite installer application. I am
happy to report the install this time completed successfully. Now, I want to
start using it. It's my understanding there are Jaws scripts which make ITunes
much more accessible. I thought there was some ITune Jaws scripts which were
available for a fee. Where do I either get free ITune Jaws Scripts or the fee

If you hit the alt key on an unopen message it will bring up the menu ribbon
you need to find arrange by submenu.

1. Hit alt and right arrow over until you hear view tab.

2. down arrow until you hear arrangement submenu

3. Right arrow to open the arrangement submenu

4. Down arrow until you hear sort by drop down and hit enter. There are
several items you can view to check or uncheck including date by
conversation and uncheck this if it is checked.

I am using Windows |Live Mail and my emails are now grouped according to who
sent them rather than by date which is making finding them really difficult
how do I alter this I cannot find the correct view option.

Also thanks to whoever gave instructions on changing JAWS to classic view

going totally silent now it seems to be working like a dream!

Hi,

In JFW 11, when I load it with a focus blue connected, braille doesn't work.

I must close JAWS and disconnect and reconnect the braille display and then
it works.

I'm talking about a JAWS manual startup.

This acurs with boath manual and automatic startup.

It happens on some computers including mine and others I have seen.

Can this problem be solved?

[JAWS-Users] speech to text

I am starting to have pain in my fingers and I would like to consider a speech

wlm or thunderbird. In wlm I can only open the file and can not locate where
to save with thunderbird. My wife has a thunderbird account and I have been

Extending The Display Time For Popup Messages in Windows 7

If you're annoyed by the fact that those popup notifications disappear
before you can get to them these instructions should help.

In Windows 7, it is possible to change a setting whereby you can tell
Windows to keep its notification dialogues, such as help balloons, open for
up to five minutes. To do this:

1. Press Windows-U to open the Ease of Access Centre.
2. Tab to and activate the link, Use the computer without a display.
3. Tab to and focus to the combo box, How long should windows notification
dialogues stay open for.

4. Use your up and down arrow keys to set the number of seconds or minutes.
5. Tab to and activate the button, ok.
6. Close Ease Of Access Centre.

Note
When you open Ease Of Access Centre, you may hear speech from Narrator. This
is normal.

everything you said is true and correct. The only way you can fast forward

with patience you can do it. Sighted assistance to purchase

rewind the player if listening to an archive game. You have

There is an option to purchase yearly the ability to listen
to the games
using the MLB website. I have a couple of questions before I
do this.

1? Is the player MLB uses accessible with JAWS. I have JAWS
11 and 12 both
on my computer.

2. It gives me the choice to have home, away or alternate
games. If anyone
is using this, does that mean that I can only listen to
whichever I have
chosen from these options or can I opt to hear any game I
want, and if I can
opt, does JAWS make selecting easy when the game is actually
playing?

3. Have people found the website accessible as far as
getting online help?

Thank you.

Mike and Flor,

OK, let's go back over this. I am using JAWS 11 with XP and IE 8. I was
the person who first mentioned configuration manager, html options, links.
As far as I can tell, none of those options stop JAWS from saying the word
link when you arrow over a link on a web page. There is a control that
says, Say link type. From my investigation, this does not stop JAWS
from saying link, or visited link, but does stop it from saying mailto
link just saying link instead.

Flor, I did look at the links list, and I see no option that pertains to
the vocalization of the word link when moving over links on a web page.
I see that you can choose what types of links, visited, not visited, all,
that appear in the list, I see radio buttons for how you can order the
links in the list. I see controls for moving to the link. I do not see
any controls for saying or not saying link.

Possibly I am being too hasty and not investigating closely enough, but
I've been through both of those dialogues and have experimented with
several controls, but have not found a way to get JAWS to stop saying
link while arrowing around a web page.

If you are using Jaws v12 a better option to avoid hearing links spoken is
to invoke scheme Say all text only under say all menu in IE. Use Jaws key

you hear scheme say all text only. When you press enter you will no longer
hear links spoken when you use the say all command, unless you read line by

Probably a better solution is to invoke the SayAll scheme

makes a click but doesn't say link when it encounters a

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Key labels in JAWS12 Settings Center

2011-03-14 Thread lmorris1953
I had a lot of problems with this myself. However, what seems to work for me
is to bring up settings center and type ctrl shift d then in the search box
type manage key label, tab once for the list and hit enter and you will see
84 keys you can modify. If you don't type ctrl shift d it's going to show 0
items in the list.

This is correct, but we're not talking about ctrl+shift+r.
We're talking about JAWS+Shift+r which in fact is reply directly to sender.
Not the same as ctrl+r which is reply and ctrl+shift+r which is reply to

[JAWS-Users] MSE and notification area

I was successful in setting the services.msc to interact with the desktop for

“allow services to interact with the desktop” and that was checked. However,
nothing regarding Malwhere or MSE is in the system tray.

Also I still can not get MSE to always show in the system tray. When I use
windows key b it brings up the system tray notification area but using the up
arrow/down key to the customize menu choice is not there. Only the list of
apps are shown. I am using windows seven 32 bit and Jaws v12.

Hi Marilyn,

Perhaps my description made it sound harder than it is. It is really just a
matter of finding the applicable radio button, tabbing to a list of items
and selecting one and reading information about it in the next box that you
tab to. On my system, I had a quarantined item and some items that were
found that I had deleted, so perhaps that is why they showed in the history.
I am not sure that the various controls will show if there are no items in
the history.

If you want to just make sure that your system is being protected then go
into the system tray with JAWS key and function key 11 and use down arrow
key to find the icon that gives the status for the antivirus protection.
You should hear that your system is protected. If you hear that your system
is potentially unprotected, it might be that the program wants you to do a
scan. You can just tab three times and use the link that simulates a double
left mouse button click to bring up the program. Choose to do a quick scan,
which only takes a few minutes. When the scan finishes, go back into the
notification area using insert and F11 and arrow down. You will likely find
that your system is being protected.

If by chance you find that there is no icon in your system tray then it
might be that the Microsoft anti malware service needs to be allowed to
interact with your desktop. I have had a couple systems where that was the
case. Let me know if that happens to be the situation and I can give you
steps for enabling the interaction.

Sorry if it seemed really confusing. Sometimes, we make things harder than
they really are in actuality.

Take care.

Ok great. I got bit lost on your web page to find the voices that will
work with JAWS. Would u pl send me the direct URL to learn about the
voices that work with JAWS independently, the synthesizer type with the
links to test them and download/buy them?

Second I should have asked this in my earlier email but pl reconfirm the
voices will work with JAWS on my PC even if I don't install your text
reader or any other Ivona software.

Third, how many PC's can I install the voices in parallel when I purchase
them?

[JAWS-Users] qwitter won't load

2011-01-21 Thread lmorris1953
I installed the accessible qwitter client. When the user accounts message
appears I answered yes but the program still won’t load. I get a message that
says “info bing” and what appears as a blank screen. I made sure to “run as
administrator. But when I launch the program again the user account request
keeps appearing along with that info bing message. Hope this makes sense.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 7 Start Menu

2011-01-02 Thread lmorris1953
Actually you should be able to arrow down past the search box on the start
menu. When I arrow down once I come to the Windows Live Mail submenu
followed by MS word and then MS excel etc etc. I believe there are eighteen
items on my start menu.

In Windows XP and earlier, you could down arrow, or up arrow thru the
start

menu.
In Windows 7, it is my understanding that the search box is at the top of
the start menu,
if this is true, why can't I down arrow in the start menu?
It would appear to me that down arrowing would move to the next item in
the

list.

Thanks in advance,

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Vista nd Win7 Windows warning when installation

Hi everyone,

I have seen the below with the last several Jaws 10-12 with my Vista and
Win7 laptops. A tech talked me through this, but I am wondering if any of
you have seen this. I am using Microsoft security essentials. I also saw the
same thing when I had AVG installed.

In the Jaws set up procedures, after the computer has restarted, the
installation literally stops. I had sighted assistance and found that
Windows was saying that some of the files I was trying to install were not
compatible with Windows.

I entered on the option to install anyway.

As I said, a tech from Freedom Scientific walked me through with this,
however, since I was trying to move along as quickly as possible, I didn't
take note about how to do this. The tech acted as if this was rather normal
and knew right away what to do.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Thank you, Russ

2010-12-21 Thread lmorris1953

Chris I believe you are a very smart person with much to contribute. I often
use your info for assistance. However, having said that David is correct. If
you have a complaint contact FS and it's up to them to agree or disagree
with your opinion. And, you or somebody correct me if I am wrong but isn't
it true that you can only install a copy of Windows 7 on one machine?

That's it young man, if you don't leave on your own I will make it happen
for you. The guidelines clearly state if you have a problem with Freedom
Scientific take it up with them, this list is not the forum for bashing
their products.

I absolutely will not put up with such garbage at all. We have what we have
to work with and that's how it goes. No answer or adaptive system is perfect
but we need such programs in order to make our lives better and more
productive.

Either way that is the end of this conversation.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Why I am not going to use JAWS

Hello all.
I will publicly state why I am refusing to use JAWS. It is Freedom
Scientific's attitude towards pricing and their license schemes. Some of
us can't or won't afford to buy JAWS, especially if the free one is just
as good as JAWS. As for the license scheme, the user is punished to
license JAWS on up to three machines. With the free and even other
commercial screen readers one can install on as many computers as they
have so long as one machine is used at a time, no questions asked. With
JAWS, once all three authorizations have been used they would then have
to request FS for more keys. Eventually and I will say eventually they
will refuse flat and get paranoid about people sharing authorization
keys. I understand piracy and all that and I certainly don't commit to
any of that stuff however at the same time FS is just asking for money
and not caring about the customer. True there is a dongle option, but
even they can have their fair share of problems. Now for the technical,
I do find the free one to be actually more stable and even works with
more applications than JAWS. You may find this shocking but this is true
according to my personal experience.
Take care.
