For a few years now I have been hoping to find a way to use my J. River
Media Center as a front end to drive my Squeezeboxes.

Why not posting a feature request on the J River Interact forum. I have
already done that but I will add support for anyone else requesting the
same. I think SBS integration will be really good first when MC
natively supports it.

I do have a few questions:

1)... when I open Squeezebox Server by opening web control the music
stream is being recognized as a Internet Radio station (and the Touch's
display shows the subdued gray radio antenna icon). Is this normal?

2)... it also shows the stream as 320kps with an mp3 extension. All
my files are FLAC. Are they being streamed as FLAC or MP3? [edit: oops
 - maybe you answered this one while I was (slowly) typing my post. If I
understand your comments in post #98, the files are actually streamed by
 SS as FLAC. Correct?]

You must be streaming files from your main MC library to the Squeezebox
causing MC to transcode the flac files.

You must load the SBS library into MC and use Play to with files in
that library. See further up in this thread. I have not done this on MC
15 but there should be an option somewhere to add or load the library
with the same name as your SBS library. In MC 16 this is reported to be
easier.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Slow downer for Squeezebox?

2011-02-27 Thread mecouc

Thanks, that's a good idea as a temporary workaround, but it isn't what
I'm looking for. When I practice, I'll try it at normal speed, then
find there's a hard bit, so slow it down 5%.. find it's still too hard,
slow it down 10%.. then push myself by playing a section at 110%, then
normal speed. I don't want to spend an afternoon in Audacity saving
copies of multiple tracks at 6 different speeds. I'll probably do that
for now, because I have a Squeezebox boom in the room I practice in,
and it's the best idea so far!

So on Friday I had a problem with Spotify and the plugin which caused

 above.

Then yesterday I had a rebuffering problem, but only listening to
Spotify through the plugin - listening direct is fine. This combination
of problems is not new - I've previously had issues with AV software
causing errors, and both of the above issues have always been there.
The rebuffering happened on so many tracks I abandoned the attempt -
very irritating way to listen to music.

Are you using 7.5.3 or later? This includes the necessary hint to the
plugin to move server when it rebuffers for more than 20 seconds or
so.

The issue for the write cover entries is that the spotify server the
plugin is connected to is not responding. This would also impact
rebuffering. What seems to happen is that some of the spotify servers
run slow, so the plugin will try to move server if it has prolonged
rebuffering. At present it won't do this if there is no response to
coverart requests and it will only do it with 7.5.3 server or later.

Its worth bearing in mind that in comparison to the PC spotify client,
all of the data for libspotify (which this plugin and the logitech
firmware uses) comes direct from a spotify server. The PC clients use
peer-peer and so suffer less when the server you are connected to at
spotify is running slow as most of the data comes from other peers. At
present I think the best we can do for this is to try to move server
when the connection rebuffers, but to do this you need 7.5.3 or later
server version.

Hi.

I am running squeezeboxserver 7.5.2 on a dlink dns-320, using a duet as
player. Installed the plugin and it is running fine, helper app starts,
no login problems, can browse playlists and search is working just
fine. However, when I try to play anything from spotify I get unable
to play file format. Server log from squeezboxserver shows:

Error: PROBLEM_CONVERT_FILE [spotify:track:3UFG2gkT4G7QWQcjyYdEoM]

I guess this moght not be a plugin related problem...but maybe someone
has seen this before and knows any tips tricks ;)

And Triode - Great Work with the plugin!! Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custombrowse - Sort Orders and Disc numbers

2011-02-27 Thread PasTim

I am using Custom Browse and Custom Scan, with the Classical menus which
include tags Work and Movement.

My standard Title Format is Composer - Artist - Title. This has
worked for everything in the past, but for some reason is giving me
problems with a few Albums. I changed it to exclude Artist, but this
didn't change anything.

I have an album (xyz) consisting of 2 discs, numbered 1 2. The Album
name dutifully shows up as xyz (Disc 1) and xyz (Disc 2). I have very
carefully double-checked that the Album Name for both discs is exactly
the same.

When I select the main Work on this album by Composer, I get to a list
of 'songs' that are in the wrong order, with those on Disc 2 first. On
the web interface I have the choice of sorting by Title instead of Album
(in the drop-down at the top of the ClassicCB display), and that works
(since my tracks are numbered in the TITLE). However, it's a pain to
have to use this each time - can it be defaulted?

On the Touch I cannot use this work-around (there's no obvious way to
change the sort order). I thought I could fix this by including the
DISC and TRACKNUM in the Title Format. I did this, but something
strange happened. DISC is always missing for DISC 1, even though it is
in the Tag on my FLACs, and the end result was still wrong.

Now I know I could put 'Title' first, but I wanted Composer and Artist
first on the Touch because on anything but very short-named tracks I
can't see them on the Touch list of songs (they would be too far to the
right).

To summarise, my questions are:

- Why is DISC blank when DISC is 1?
- Why, when the Album has (Disc 1) and (Disc 2) appended to it, doesn't
the sort order show Disc 1 first when sorting by Album on the Web
interface? What possible reasons are there that that I could have
missed?
- Can I default the web interface to sort 'songs' by title, rather than
Album?
- Can I default the Touch interface to sort 'songs' by title, rather
than Album?

Triode;614126 Wrote:

At
present I think the best we can do for this is to try to move server
when the connection rebuffers, but to do this you need 7.5.3 or later
 server version.

ok, I will try 7.5.3 again. I went back to 7.5.2 because there was a
problem reported (not on this thread) with connection dropping, and I
wondered if that was causing the other problem!

What you say makes sense - I had wondered about coverart, it's a shame
there isn't an option to switch it off. It's irrelevant on Squeezebox
and Duet/Classic unless you're looking at the server - even then I
could live without coverart...and if it helps improve the chances with
buffering that would be good.

Thanks for explaining the difference between the PC (peer-to-peer) and
the libspotify (direct) - I have always wondered.

thanks.

Make this plugin work with iTach devices for more universal control of
not only denon devices.

looking at the plugin makes me *think* that it's very close match not
so extensive mods are needed

I use these devices
http://www.globalcache.com/products/itach/ip2slspecs/

They come as serial or ir , ethernet or wifi .

API

http://www.globalcache.com/downloads/#apis

The Plugin then needs user inputs for .

The network address of the Serial or ir device .

The proper serial or ir codes to be sent for volume and power .

Plugin can then send to correct device at the rigth port ( see api )
And add the special carriage return character needed \x0D for their
serial adapter.

Also the ir-device has an ir-blaster, so with this devices one could do
a plugin that substitutes ir-blaster for Touch that does not support ir
blasting you will then need this 3'rd party hardware, but it will
probably work fine.

I can not code myself out of paper bag otherwise i would have tried it
myself.

I actually think netcat would do on the linux servers, to send
commands.
Unfortunately netcat is not available on the Touch itself , otherwise
this could have been a nice app idea, to have serial and ir blasting
without a local server.

few comments:

* Today the plugin uses Denon network commands. I would have to

* The plugin uses two way communications and gets feedback from the
Denon - using iTach it would be one way only

* Because of the above and the ability to support multiple receivers

I think there is an IRBlaster plugin that is available today. Maybe it

You might want to try the following when you do that, in order to make
the log more manageable.

In a terminal window, first off, truncate the log:

# logfile='/var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log'
# sudo date $logfile

Then, perform your suspend, resume and then wait for idle-suspend.
(Maybe dial down the idle-timeout in the SrvrPowerCtrl settings to
something more manageable, like 5 minutes?)

Then, if the system still refuses to suspend on it's own, get the log
entries with:

# sudo cat $logfile | grep 'SrvrPowerCtrl'

That will dump just the relevant entries from the log.

1)... when I open Squeezebox Server by opening web control the music
stream is being recognized as a Internet Radio station (and the Touch's
display shows the subdued gray radio antenna icon). Is this normal? There are
two ways that JR MC can connect to your Squeezebox music
library: 1) via UPnP by means of Whitebear, and 2) via the Windows file
system where JR MC gives itself direct shared access to the same files
on disk that Squeeze Center is using.

When JR MC issues a Play To command via Whitebear to a Squeeze player,
it is essentially saying play this url. And in library connection
mode 1) above, when Whitebear gets a play this url, the url in
question is actually one that Whitebear created itself. And in this
case, Whitebear knows it is an own url, and so it tells the player to
play the respective track Id natively. In this native play mode, the
files are played with maximum possible resolution, according to SC's
own transcoding settings. And all the track meta data and album art
etc. are displayed on the player's UI and on the SC web UI.

In library connection mode 2) above, when Whitebear gets a play this
url, the url in question is one that JR MC has created. In this case,
Whitebear tells SC to download and play the url from JR MC. In this
case the behaviour is the same as if you would be playing a remote
music, radio or podcast stream. In this remote stream play mode, the
files are played at the resolution determined by JR MC server's
transcoding settings. And unfortunately, no track meta data and album
art is available to be displayed.

From your question, it sounds as if you are in library connection mode

understand your comments in post #98, the files are actually streamed by
SS as FLAC. Correct?]If as I guess you are in library connection mode 2),
 then the format of
the stream is determined by JR MC server's transcoding settings. This
is a manual setting in JR MC Tools | Options | Media Network | Audio
Conversion. By default it is set to convert to Mp3, but you can change
this to convert to Uncompressed stream. In which case JR MC will
deliver the stream in lossless lpcm or wav.

{ note: in my opinion, having this audio conversion as a fixed setting
of JR MC is a bit of a kludge. The UPnP specifications allow the
Control Point to ask the player (Renderer) what kind of stream formats
it supports. And in my opinion JR MC should be doing this, and
consequently delivering the highest possible stream quality according
to the player's declared capabilities. I have told the JR MC designers
about this; so it is at least on their to do list... }

I hope this helps...

RS232 would be way more work and probably not totally worth it. If the
major functions of turning the unit on/off, adjusting the volume and
perhaps sending some setup commands to get the receiver on the right
channel, audio format etc would that be enough?

If we kept it minimal like above it might be achievable. My biggest
question now would where to store the IR codes. Since there is only
potentially 5 above (assuming that a receiver has the ability to reset
its configuration with one command like the Denon does), this could
probably be done via the Web Gui on the plugin. If it gets much more
than that it would require a file of codes and that is very problematic
to maintain/adjust.

I use the rs232 for volume and power and actually i only need volume .

meridian has a feature that standby can not be defeated by ir or
rs232 so if the system is in standy it's needs a push on a front button
(it is not really off ) but selecting a source is simple and by doing
that it evokes your already preset dsp modes etc .

When I use iRule i have macro functions to select the squeezebox on the
meridian and send play signal to the squeebox by ir then i swap between
iRule and iPeng to listen , but once i found a comfortable listening
level and dsp mode it's mostly iPeng, but i built a complete ir remote
for my squeezebox in iRule to .

it may not be worth the work for you as i see that you have no personal
use for this function.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Possible iTach Plugin for SBS

2011-02-27 Thread Mnyb

Nope. You may be able to use the old IR Blaster with such a setup. Take
a look at http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/IRBlasterDirectLink

If you upgraded to an SB Touch, bought a $10 USB-to-RS232 cable, and
used something like the the 'socat utitilty'
(http://www.dest-unreach.org/socat/) to turn the Touch into a
TCP/Serial server, you should also be able to use my plugin, and
probably Aesculus' too.

The RS232 and native TCP/Ethernet interfaces that are used by
DenonSerial and Denon AVP Control offer a huge advantage over the Denon
IR interface, as the RS232 and Ethernet interfaces allow our plugins to
set exact volumes and determine the Denon's volume. The IR interface is
one-way (SBS, plugins, and applets can't determine how loud the amp
already is) and crude -- all you can send are Volume Up and Volume Down
commands (and some sort of Mute command -- serial/TCP allow discrete
Mute On and Mute Off, but I don't know about Denon's IR codes).

Yes. That is how I expected it to be.

Now when JRMC tries to connect to your library, it sends a series of
UpnP Search commands to Whitebear, which Whitebear back-to-backs as a
series of tracks 0 50 tags: command to the CLI (i.e. the same as
above).

So the odd thing is that whereas PuTTY gets a quick response to this
command, apparently when Whitebear makes it, the response either does
not come at all, or at best it takes an unacceptably long time.

Do you have anything special concerning user rights, AV software,
routers, or firewalls that might be slowing down the pipeline between
Whitebear and the CLI ??

AndrewFG;614242 Wrote:

I do not think so. I use Windows firewall on both computers. On the Win
XP computer running SBS I have Microsoft Security Essentials and on the
Win 7 computer I have NOD32. I have an Internet cable wireless router
and an additional access point for the wireless network (because I live
in an 1886 apartment building with very thick walls), but I turned off
the access point and the result was the same. (The two machines are
connected via ethernet anyeway.) One of the four Squeezeboxes is
running ethernet through the electrical cords (beacause of the thick
walls) with no encryption (because I did not get that to work and I
trust my neighbours).

I used PuTTY on the SBS machine setting the IP address to localhost
instead of the local IP address, and MC, running on another machine,
must have used the local IP address or the PC name for the local
network. This is the only thing I can come to think of.

The UAC is set to standard (default) on the Win 7 machine and I am not
running MC as an administrator.

I suspected that Erland's Custom Skip plugin could be interfering with
the requests but since not even a SBS environment without any plugins
would provide acceptable results I gave up that suspicion.

Thanks again for trying to help!

Sometimes I want to play along to music on my sax. As I'm not terribly

This should be very possible via 'transcoding'. I suggest you contact
support at ronimusic.com using the email address here:

http://www.ronimusic.com/sendmail.htm

Ask the roni folks if there is a version of Amazing Slowdowner that
works via command line. For this to work easily with Squeezeboxserver,
slowdowner would have to be able to get the input WAV data from stdin
and output the slowed-down version on stdout. If it can do that, then
we ought to be able to work up a custom-convert.conf that will allow
you to listen to slowed down versions without too much trouble.

If we can get that far, then a plugin that allows easier/finer control
over the tempo ought to be doable.

I actually have a Amazing Slowdowner license so I may be able to help
with this.

But the first step is for you to talk to the Roni Music folks about a
version that works via the command line.

I have tried re-scanning, to no avail.

I have tried changing the title format to be TITLE - COMPOSER - ARTIST
, and for this Album I get the order as below:

Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 4. Part II - Sehr langsam. Misterioso: 'O
Mensch! Gib acht!' - Mahler, G - Lang, P Chailly, R from Mahler -
Symphony No 3 - Chailly (Disc 2)
Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 5. Part II - Lustig im Tempo und keck im
Ausdruck: 'Bimm bamm. - Es sungen drei Engel einen süßen Gesang' -
Mahler, G - Lang, P Chailly, R from Mahler - Symphony No 3 - Chailly
(Disc 2)
Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 6. Part II - Langsam. Rhuevoll. Empfunden -
Mahler, G - Chailly, R from Mahler - Symphony No 3 - Chailly (Disc 2)

Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 1. Part I - Kräftig. Entschieden - Mahler, G -
Chailly, R from Mahler - Symphony No 3 - Chailly (Disc 1)
Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 2. Part II -Tempo di minuetto. Sehr mäßig -
Mahler, G - Chailly, R from Mahler - Symphony No 3 - Chailly (Disc 1)

Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 3. Part II - Comodo. Scherzando. Ohne Hast -
Mahler, G - Chailly, R from Mahler - Symphony No 3 - Chailly (Disc 1)

Another conductor, same title, different album, gets the correct order,
eg:

Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 1. Part I - Kräftig. Entschieden - Mahler, G -
Haitink, B from Mahler - Symphonies - Haitink (Disc 3)
Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 2. Part II -Tempo di minuetto. Sehr mäßig -
Mahler, G - Haitink, B from Mahler - Symphonies - Haitink (Disc 3)

Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 3. Part II - Comodo. Scherzando. Ohne Hast -
Mahler, G - Haitink, B from Mahler - Symphonies - Haitink (Disc 3)

Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 4. Part II - Sehr langsam. Misterioso: 'O
Mensch! Gib acht!' - Mahler, G - Haitink, B Forrester, M from Mahler
- Symphonies - Haitink (Disc 3)
Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 5. Part II - Lustig im Tempo und keck im
Ausdruck: 'Bimm bamm. - Es sungen drei Engel einen süßen Gesang' -
Mahler, G - Haitink, B Forrester, M from Mahler - Symphonies -
Haitink (Disc 3)
Symphony No.03 in Dmi - 6. Part II - Langsam. Rhuevoll. Empfunden -
Mahler, G - Haitink, B from Mahler - Symphonies - Haitink (Disc 4)

I even tried with just TITLE for the format.

I haven't (yet) had this problem on another album, but I assume there
will be another one somewhere.

Help!

current version it connects to the CLI via the PC's external IPv4

configuration, the CLI call is somehow going around the house rather
than just looping back inside the local host, and this may indeed
explain the slowdown. In any case I think it would be a valid speed
enhancement if I would change it to use 127.0.0.1:9090 local host in
the next release.

By the way, what version of JR MC are you running? I just tried a
library connect using JR MC v16beta, and this takes 38 minutes to
download the information of my 9200 tracks; as compared to JR MC v15
which only takes 28 minutes.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Whitebear updated version

2011-02-27 Thread MBlue72

vagskal and Andrew -- thanks for your help. I am really struggling to
keep up with all of the terminology (yet alone the technology!). Please
continue to bear (pun intended) with me.

Andrew, I believe I am connecting (MC15 through Whitebear to the
Squeeze system) via the DLNA Server. But based on your comments in
your last post, here's what I did:

ToolsOptionsMedia NetworkDLNA Server:

A)... Conversion ... was Convert unsupported formats ... I changed
this to never convert

B)... Encoder ... was MP3 high bandwidth stream ... I changed to
Uncompressed stream (although I also tried uncompressed stream - L16
- no header

Now when I open Squeezebox Server by opening web control:

1)... the music stream is still being recognized as a Internet Radio
station (and the Touch's display shows the subdued gray radio antenna
icon). Is this normal? I'm sorry to repeat my question from my earlier
post but I don't know whether the Touch should be showing the album
cover art/metadata/etc.

2)... but now the browser shows the stream as being FLAC (not MP3).So
this is a step in the right direction! The browser identifies the
stream as http://MyComputerIPAddress/MyMusicFolder/Fx.flac; with
the same radio antenna beacon -- so metadata here either.

BTW, I am invoking the streaming process by right-clicking on the music
files I want to hear, then selecting add to playing now. Is this the
best way?

So I guess my questions basically boil down to what to expect in the
way of cosmetics (display of cover art and metadata, etc.) and how to
get to there from here?

Thank you again for you help and all the work that you've put into
this.

Dave

said before, there are two ways for JR MC to connect to a library:

1) via Whitebear: you do this in JR MC v15 via the File | Library |
Connect To... command: This will allow you to play your music on
Squeezeplayers in full native mode, and with all meta data and artwork
being displayed.

2) via the Windows file system: you do this in JR MC v15 the File |
Library | Import... command: In this mode the file will be streamed by
JR MC to the Squeeze player as if it was an external remote radio
stream (with the antenna icon). And in this mode no meta data and
artwork can be displayed.

For WMA you will need the WMAPlay plugin, iPeng does not natively

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-02-27 Thread Triode

I've just posted release 1.3.1 to the repository.

This version supports arm processors in the main release version, so
please could all people who were using the arm test version, please
remove the test repository from their server configuration and move to
using the standard release. Arm support is still considered
experimental, but I would like people to test using the standard
release.

The release is also intended to minimise the impact of spotify servers
running slowly. Please note that for this to work effectively you need
server release 7.5.3 or later.

This version supports the following:
- linux build now includes support of arm (arm5te and newer
processors)
- new default helper port (9005) to avoid conflicts on some NASs
- support track numbers in server title formats
- support for servers running with --notranscode startup option
- additional features aimed at improving stability and performance when
spotify servers run slowly
- periodic check to ensure helper application is still running and
restart it if it has failed

As always please provide feedback here, and specifically for arm
processors it would be useful to gain feedback on which NASs this
release works with and any issues you have.

Well, when they merged, they dumped my premium access! I had to call
and wait 30 minutes to yell at them. So check your account.

When they were going belly up, they had a deal where if you renewed,
you got free high-speed Internet. They conveniently forgot about that.

But the (not so) sirius plugin is not working for me. I go to either
the by name or by number and nothing happens.

Try updating your username and password. My password at one time got
set to all CAPS by SiriusXM and that messed up with the legacy players

Does the problem only happen when you play music ?
I've seen that some operations in my plugins are a lot slower if
executed the same time as music is playing, the main reason for this is
probably that it likes to prioritize streaming before answering plugin
requests.

Maybe the same situation also happens when Whitebear accesses the CLI
interface ?

Does it work fast if you disable all third party plugins ? If I
understand you correctly, it was slow also with plugins disabled ?

I think Squeezebox Server is single threaded, so it depends on how the
different CLI commands are implemented. So I think it can handle
multiple CLI calls if they are implemented in an asynchronous way, for
example if they are doing a HTTP call and waiting for a response.
Database accesses are typically not handled asynchronous so to database
calls that needs to access the database will typically be serialized.

In my experience, playing music will affect the performance, so the
first thing I'd try is to see if it behaves the same with and without
music playing. If it is slow only when music is playing, there is
probably not much you can do about it than change to faster server
hardware.

Regarding Custom Skip plugin, it only executes once at the end of each
track, so it feels strange that it should cause these problems.

Are you using SBS 7.5 or 7.6 ?
7.6 cause problem with Playlist Generator earlier, basically it caused
an infinite loop similar to what you described if automatic scanning

How have you configured the Playlist Generator plugin ? Which playlist

Also if you had done both File | Library | Import and File | Library

library. In which case it would be hard for you to determine which was
which when you do a Play To (one would play as a remote stream with no
meta data, and the other would play as a native SC file with all the
works).

Probably it is best to start with a File | Library | Clear Library

I think Squeezebox Server is single threaded, so it depends on how the
different CLI commands are implemented. So I think it can handle
multiple CLI calls if they are implemented in an asynchronous way, for
example if they are doing a HTTP call and waiting for a response.
Database accesses are typically not handled asynchronous so to database
calls that needs to access the database will typically be serialized.Hi
Erland. Thanks for joining the thread. What you say is confirming my
thoughts about the inner workings of SC, in that it basically it puts
each incoming CLI request on hold until all prior requests have been
completed. In this model, what worries me in particular is the
possibility that a plug in may send a CLI request to the SC, and then
forgets to read the response from the socket. In that case, the mis-
behaved plug-in has the capability to block all other subsequent CLI
calls from all other plug ins. Or??
