IIRC the HTTP metadata handler calls a "getmetadatafor" type routine which provides values for client and URL. For BBCiPlayer I found LMS calls the the getmetadafor routine everytime LMS needed metadata even for items in a playlist. I identified an item in a playing playlist (i.e. $client->isPlaying is true) by checking for the $song from the URL - if not defined it is not playing (i.e. not current) and in playlist for client. Code: # As supplied URL might be for a playlist item and one that is not actually streaming so use currentSongForUrl instead of streamingSong or streamingSongforUrl my $song = $client->currentSongForUrl($url) ; bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106900 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

That's the wonder of open source. I'll keep supporting BBCiPlayer & Extra as long as it is feasible but it is dependent on BBC. It is always good to have a backup. BBC Sounds is another natural evolutionary iteration of BBC on LMS. AlienBBC had screenscraping & RealAudio which was then replaceed by FlashAudio and a BBC "Listen Again" feed. Then BBCiPlayer with the same feeds but moved to HLS, Flash and MP3 and then to DASH. I took on maintenance of BBCiPlayer mainly for selfish reasons - I used it. "Listen Again" feed is now creaking and BBC have wanted to retire it for ages. BBC retired the other APIs BBCiPlayerExtra used hoping Nitro would work but I think tech overtook Nitro. RMS evolved and now seems stable and why I think it is a solid basis. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113352 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

BBC have been trying to retire the old "Listen Again" feed for a long time as it requires 3rd party maintenance. OK it look like BBC have deliberately or accidentally killed off the "Listen again" feeds in total. Either way I can do nothing. If it is accidental, it may be back in a few days. If it is deliberate, it may be tied into the fact the BBC Sounds became universally available to non UK users Since mid Sept and BBC wants to retire the "old" feeds and "migrate" users to use BBC Sounds. The BBC Sounds plugin is available for LMS and just requires registration on BBC Sounds website. BBCiPlayerExtra A-Z and Genres does not use the "old" feeds and may still work. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113352 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

At a guess your OS does not have up to date SSL libraries. 1. What is the version of IO::Socket::SSL - see WebUI / Settings/information 2. What OS do you have and what version ? Usually you need at least version 2.06 for IO::Socket::SSL and at least 1.1.* of OpenSSL if you are using Linux or some versions of MacOS/OSX. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113352 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Unfortunately personalisation is the way to get the "mobile" users on board - screen are too small to show everything (and BBC have literally millions of programs available to play) BBC being Govt funded need to show the public is using their service. I agree with your point of view but in some instances no choice has been offered so I reserve some email addresses to register for such services. I generally turn off/disable all personalisation and "offering" aspects of a service. The good thing about LMS - you have choice. BBCiPLayer, BBCiPlayerExtra or using the Podcast feed raw options are still available to you with no tracking. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113268 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

However it is likely you are being more aggressively tracked by any streaming service you might be using. IIRC BBC just wants an email address and age. - they're mainly after demographics & usage to get more money from Govt. You can only take so many precautions. This could be installed easily and would work on any LMS installation not matter which OS. No. BBCiPlayer has programs that only last 7 days. BBCiPlayerExtra accesses *all* the programs BBC has on their website. Some programs are only kept for 30 days, some for much longer - There are Desert Island disks from decades ago and many series of some programs (e.g. Old Harry's Game) and a few weeks worht of Book of the Week and Book at Bedtime. Many podcasts are "programs" that were not broadcast (although some are broadscasts) - they may be long in duration which is why a podcast player which can remember position is useful bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113268 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

This was done because timestamp of audio packet being played can be delayed by BBC. Change skip back to say 5 mins and then skip forward to 30 secs or 1 min. What is the squeezelite command line (i.e player device sysdeault, hw:0,0 , plughw:CARD-X,DEV=Y) and any option (e.g. no AAC, no resampling) The program (same sounds:// IRL) plays OK for me on a SB receiver which is cannot play AAC natively - so it show transcoding is working.. This confirm problem is related to player setup. All the BBC sound stream are 48kHz - so they all have the same sample rate. Most Sounds programs play OK. So perhaps problem could be in one place sample rate has been supplied by Sounds - however a full log will help. Please copy log in full from request to play to about 10 secs after failure. Sometimes is the message that are not present than show the problem and also order of message logged are not necessarily how they are executed. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

That said, there is some other difference - not clear what. Enable player.source logging to INFO and try to play a program to show why LMS can't handle the Sounds stream. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

florca wrote: > but I wonder whether this fully "signed-in" BBC access might reduce the > potential incentive for the BBC to squash apps like the LMS BBC iPlayer, > or restrict them to low-bandwidth content? No. Copyright & money will always be there to try to lock users into a BBC app. Being paranoid, Sounds and mobile app with sign-in could try to displace web based player as http & Browsers based applications evolve. This would make plugins dependent on the new API. This could then be followed by locking the API by the required use of the API key (this was the case until recently). For non UK users, it will then end up having ads (DASH is designed to support inserted ads unlike HTTP/MP3) and/or paid services. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Possibly but we can deal with it and hopefully soon Triode plugin will be a non-issue. The log entry would at least point user in the right direction - you can add BBCiPlayer required min version in log entry. You could even add a note to your Sounds plugin requirement that "BBCiPlayer plugin must be installed and able to play 'Listen Again' " . but there is a limit to hand holding. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

To add - all you need to is ask. 2. The location of the BBCiPlayer repo should be irrelevant to your repo. Users just needs to know that BBCiPlayer plugin myustr be installed. If you want to be helpful to end users, you could include a check in BBC Sounds plugin to see if BBCiPlayer plugin is installed (e.g. check if iplayer is amongst registered handlers) and if not make a log entry saying "cant find BBCiPlayer plugin". bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

My initial thoughts. This could be done via the "More" context menu (e.g. like the Segment times menu item). I haven't looked into BBC Sounds plugin. The BBCiPlayer plugin would need an API to "register" a "more" menu item to call a function from BBC Sounds plugin with some info from BBCiPlayer. BBCiPlayer can only provide a program pid so I think BBC Sounds has to convert the pid to an urn as an urn is the "currency" of BBC Sounds (aka the rms API) . bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

LMS menu handling (at least for older SB players) will "remember" the last program - but the not position withing the program. If you are listening to a BBC podcast, then I think position can be remembered by LMS podcast. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

In AlienBBC we tried to have multiple parsers (for different stations using RealAudio) in same plugin but maintenance & testing proved awkward with many updates as each station changed at a different rate. I think having separate plugins for separate "program finding" functionality will make for more direct menus and easier maintenance. Since you are using "parser" in opml menus, there is a potential LMS issues with Favorites if the menu item is playable and a favorite saved from the menu item. Not sure if issue will show up with your plugin. Main symptom is: "Touch to Play" the Favorite may not work on Jiveplay/Touch/Squeezeplay . This is due to the "onselect => 'play'" not being retained. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce : BBC Sounds Plugin
I think this is the right sort of way to extend BBC listening - users of certain BBC features develop specific plugins to suit their needs using BBCiPlayer as the playing engine. The preferred interface to BBCiplayer would be the "iplayer://" URL. I presume BBC Sounds plugin eventually plays "iplayer://aod" type URLs. No live streams. A quick look through the code and I noticed the Sounds plugin has hooked directly into the BBCiPlayer PlaylistParser routine. This is an internal dependence which might break your plugin in the future - however usually the need to change that sort of BBCiPlayer routine is because BBC has changed internals and so has already broken BBCiPlayer. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113045 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

slartibartfast wrote: > I just leave mine with DASH as first choice. Does HLS have any benefits? > History Lesson. The plugin is constantly chasing BBC and so settings which used to be important may now be less important or even redundant. When Triode implemented the current iteration of BBCiPlayer the audio formats were Adobe Flash and Apple HLS. Then BBC migrated from Adobe Flash to DASH with the aspiration that DASH will be the only one required in future. I implemented DASH and retired Flash. The Extra plugin uses the URLs from the web player which now only offer DASH or occasionally MP3 podcast (very rare, maybe never now, sometimes on very old program they may be in Flash) . This is probably so that BBC can bundle a JS DASH & MP3 player as part of the their player & RadioPlayer popout player. There are NO HLS streams from the Extra plugin - so DASH has to be one of the options in BBCiPlayer "on-Demand" settings. If BBC decides to offer HLS I think plugin will be able to handle it. The AAC audio in HLS and DASH is exactly the same. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The plugins used to have a 7 day schedule feature (it may have been an Extra feature) when the BBC maintained a public APIs to stations, programmes & schedules. However a few years BBC have withdrawn all public API and so reduced Extra to a minimal service with a single API (which is likely to be to be cut as well). All the APIs are now private. Screen scraping would take too much effort to maintain. However, I have been looking at the private API mainly to implement a backup should current plugins fail. The query about personalisation and now schedules made me look again at other parts of the API. IIRC the API used to be inaccessible but since since Personalisation for non UK users was supported by BBC in mid Sept 2020, I think more functions work (or possibly I've got better). Checking the schedule part of new API and the API seems to work. Example Radio 3 11-Oct-2020 https://rms.api.bbc.co.uk/v2/broadcasts/schedules/bbc_radio_three/2020-10-11 Long story short - schedules may be back on the menu. Two caveats: 1. BBC may lock the API once it gets used by "outsiders" 2. Need to find time to do a schedule menu amongst a few other updates bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

OK. This is strange issue. It has also affected LMS repository fetches and Windows version of LMS. Sites which technically should support TLS request less then TLS 1.3 (e.g. TLS 1.1) seem to have problem with SSL/TLS libraries support which is not quite up to date or the old SSL/TLS libraries have a problem with site which support TLS 1.3. Either way it is a problem outside of LMS and BBCiPlayer plugin. A separate issue but associated issue when this failure occurs - know of two instances where LMS "spins" making the same request about every 0.002 secs and so effectively locks out all other LMS activity. All is solved by updating but for some users this seems to be a drastic solution and cannot understand the failure of backward compatibility. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Ronnie (aka Man in a van) did sterling work with a series of tests on various version of OS/libraries and although there was https failures - the spinning behaviour did not show up. I suspect on Jessie - only the libssl1.0-dev (and maybe a libssl1.0.1) are installed but looking at there is no 1.1.* for Jessie (see https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libssl ) bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I have a spare pi4 - I may try this evening installing older version of OpenSSL to check its significance bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The Radioplayer error is being logged (i.e. https support is the root cause of the erro and also the repository xml errors) and so you are reproducing the error at the expected 30 secs interval. For some reason it gets out of control on @bins system and doesn't wait 30 secs. I suspect Radioplayer needs/checks for TLS 1.3 which was only supported from OpenSSL 1.1.* onwards and this causes the initial error. There may be a race condition somewhere. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
