Hello Chris, A reminder of what Chris Wilson typed on: Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 13:12:53 GMT + CW Thanks Stuart, the more I look at View Modes, and tabs the more CW confused I get. The whole thing needs a rethink, there are far too CW many means of accessing the menus for these, and seemingly no rhyme CW nor reason in what overrides what. I have used The Bat! for very CW many years, and generally it's superb, but View Modes, Global View CW Modes, Folder View Modes and now Tabs. What a hodge podge of CW disparate menus, it needs sorting! I have now managed to lock up TB! CW messing with these, it *appears* using Tabs it will try and select CW more than one tab at a time, and also seems to get its knickers in a CW twist balancing Tabs and View Modes and deciding which to use. The one thing I learned early on, was to set Global View Mode to No View Mode and leave it there. I see no purpose for it and if you set it to anything but No View Mode it just takes over everything. The new Windows 8 UI is enough hoops to jump through for now. Actually I installed StartIsBack for the old Start Menu driven UI. Re: Virtual Folders
AS I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me how virtual folders work in The Bat. AS 1. For example, is it possible to set up a rule that copies AS every incoming message in a mail account to two folders: one AS folder based on some criteria, such as subject, mailing list, etc, AS and one folder that receives all messages. The latter folder AS would allow all messages that come in at one time to be more AS easily viewed that hunting for them among a couple dozen folders. AS 2. Is it possible to enable messages from many different mail AS accounts to be copied into the virtual folder? AS Of course, I could accomplish no. 1 by leaving them in the inbox AS and copying them as well into whatever folder I want to place AS them. But, this takes up double the disk space for each message. AS With a virtual folder, the message is stored only once, but is AS also seen by the virtual folder. Lotus Notes allows for this. AS How does it work in The Bat? I don't see a way to filter messages into a virtual folder. I have multiple accounts and have separate virtual folders to watch all the Inboxes at once. The mail stays in the correct inbox, yet I can view it and act on it in accordance with it's specific account settings I have another that views all the trash folders, which makes it easy to clean out the trash each night Yet another views all of certain color groups across all folders with the sort by name and showing the account in which it resides The virtual folder it basically a view of whatever you want, filtered and sorted the way you want it -- Rick All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream ~ Edgar Allan Poe ~ v5.3.2.4 (BETA) on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3 Current version is 5.2.2 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: v5.2.2 annoyance: x bytes of storage space released confirmation. Can't seem to disable this notification.
and now I'm paying for my folly. I do a bit of manual folder management while reading email, which often includes deleting selected messages from folders. Re: Non-viewable pictures
Greetings All, A friend sent me an email which was supposed to contain a bunch of pictures, none of which showed up when viewing the email in the VIEW→WINDOW SPLIT MODE→FULL-WIDTH PREVIEW PANE. The left column in this view mode shows the icons for the pictures which were a few GIFs but most were just labeled ATTx~1KB where x was a number from 1 to 15. The KB size was different for each picture, varying from less than 1KB to more than 31KB. The only icons which had extensions were the GIFs (.gif). Clicking on a tab at the bottom of the window would reveal each picture individually. However, when I clicked on REPLY and the reply window opened, all the pictures were suddenly viewable in the reply window. Anyone have any ideas as to why this would work this way? Not specifically, but I often get graphics with the extension stripped but the Bat can read them correctly. That is a problem with the sender's system settings or email provider, not with the Bat. Re: Embedding jpeg image into mass mailing template
Hi, I recently posted this query, but it was buried inside another thread and may have escaped notice, so I am re-posting to a new thread: I need to send an email that has an embedded jpeg to everyone in an address group. It is an invitation, that I created in MS Publisher and saved as a jpeg file. In a prior thread it was established that in order to send a mass mailing to an address book group so that individual recipients see only their own address in the to field and have individualized salutations, I needed to create a mass mailing template. However, I want that template to have as its body the salutation, followed by an image that is the jpeg file. In a regular message, I can just copy and paste the image, so long as I have the regular message set to HTML and not plain text. But, the mass mailing template appears to be text-only. How do I insert my jpeg invitation into the body of the mass mailing, so that when the message is opened by the recipient, the recipient sees the image of the invitation? Note, I do NOT wish to send the jpeg as an attachment. I understand how to do that. I want the message itself to display the jpeg image as part of the message. Can this be done with a mass mailing template? If so, how? I JUST sent out a mass mailing - I dragged and dropped the JPG into the template that was going out and it worked perfectly (Insert an image will do it just as well. Re: Embedding jpeg image into mass mailing template
R I JUST sent out a mass mailing - I dragged and dropped the JPG into R the template that was going out and it worked perfectly (Insert an R image will do it just as well. This is not happening for me. Here is what I do to send out a mass mailing: 1. open address book and highlight group to receive mass mailing 2. Click on file/mass mailing using template/[specific template file that has previously been created, let's call it X] 3. The Create Mass Mailing dialogue box opens up 4. With X highlighted in the drop down window, I click on Edit... 5. The Edit Template box for X opens up. At this point I tried to both drag and drop my jpeg into the Edit Template box as well as copy and paste. Neither works. When I try to drag and drop, the mouse icon turns into the international stop sign (circle with a line). Do you have the template formatted to HTML? What I CAN do is click on OK after the Create Mass Mailing dialogue box opens up which will automatically put all outgoing e-mails into the outbox and insert, one by one, the jpegs into these outgoing messages. But there will be about 150 and inserting the jpegs one by one will be very tedious. Could it be that what you are doing is only possible with the newer version of the The Bat? Ordinarily, when I create a new account, I have to go into properties and change the settings for transport, since the default settings don't work. This includes changing some of the ports, and some of the other options as well.
