Re: [videoblogging] Re: Memorial Day Tribute

2006-05-31 Thread Ryan Ozawa

Here in Hawaii, one Buddhist sect has merged the traditional Japanese
toro nagashi rites (lantern offerings) with the American Memorial Day
observance, and of course incorporated many Hawaiian traditions as
well. The dead are remembered -- ancestors, war dead, family members
recently passed -- and are guided to the shore of salvation by paper
lanterns bearing names and messages set adrift on the open ocean.

Even off Waikiki, with loud tourists (who seem to confuse a spiritual
ceremony with a beer bash) and a huge, huge, crowd, this event never
ceases to touch me deeply. I vlogged it, and I'm inordinately pleased
with how it turned out. I invite you to share in this unique
experience.

Neat Pearl Harbor vlog, David. I like the newsreel introduction. The Arizona Memorial... another place which, despite the crowds, is quite moving.

Re: [videoblogging] Idea: New microformat: rel=media:thumbnail

2006-05-31 Thread Joshua Kinberg

  From: http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-enclosure
  -
By adding rel=enclosure to a hyperlink, a page indicates that the
destination of that hyperlink is intended to be downloaded and cached.

That doesn't reflect what me and others discussed on the Microformats mailing list. I'd give you links to the e-mails in the archive... but I'm too tired right now :-) (And yeah, I know, I saw you over there too. Particularly regarding the rel-payment thing for Atom.)

I don't think there's been much dissenting opinion over what an
enclosure is on the Microformats list. I've been following there for a
little over a year and have been pushing for a media microformat. The
above was simply copied from their wiki.

Like I mentioned before (and as you mention later), a MIME type is NOT always sufficient to tell if something is a video or not. This is because not all videos have a MIME type of the form video/*.

Unfortunately, this is true that there are some fringe cases where
Mime type is not sufficient to determine the type of media (video,
audio, etc.).

Actually, Media RSS has an optional attribute called medium to deal
with this problem:

From: http://video.yahoo.com/mrss

medium is the type of object (image | audio | video | document |
executable). While this attribute can at times seem redundant if type
is supplied, it is included because it simplifies decision making on
the reader side, as well as flushes out any ambiguities between MIME
type and object type. It is an optional attribute.

One example is Ogg (application/ogg). Although container formats in general will have this problem. (Some container formats have video/* forms though.)

I think Ogg may be the *only* container format that does this (ok,
maybe Smil, but that's not a binary format).

Quicktime, ASF, Matroska, 3GP, MP4, AVI, etc. will all be video/* types.
The Ogg folks should probably rectify that by allowing audio/ogg and
video/ogg

Also, systems that shunt themselves via the web will also have this problem. For example, consider this BitTorrent link...

BitTorrent unfortunately is mystery meat. But, the mimetype is correct
-- a BitTorrent file is a BitTorrent file. Now what's inside is
anyone's guess... could be video, audio, or a collection of files and
folders of different types. No single mime type would justify what
might be *inside* a Torrent.

 http://example.com/show.torrent#video.mpeg

Note that I'm using a URI fragment to access what's inside the torrent.

Would that URI resolve to anything? If not then I would think it
doesn't make sense. I've never seen that convention used anywhere.

I would stick with established Microformat class attributes rather
than create new ones and thus more deviation and noise.

Which Microformat class attributes would you suggest?

relEnclosure is already pretty well established.

I've found that VLC is actually pretty common. (At least in BC, Canada. Everyone seems to use it here. Things may be different globally though.)

VLC browser plugin is not common at all. It is separate from the VLC
desktop application as far as I know.

But I think the whole topic of videos having MIME types NOT of the form video/* is an important one to deal with. (Shunting things via new protocols seems to be out of favor due to the nature of the underlying operating systems. Instead, shunting seems to be done via MIME types now. And this will lead to new non- video/* video MIME types.)

I don't understand what you mean by shunting?

My motivation for class-video is to learn from SMIL. SMIL has a video element. Thus class-video copies that. (This is the Microformat process. Either observe what being done in the wild with HTML and create a semantic HTML specification -- a Microformat -- for it. Or mimic XML paradigms out there. In this case I'm mimicking the XML paradign of SMIL.)

That's not exactly the Microformat process - its defined pretty well
on their wiki:
http://microformats.org/wiki/process

Probably best to start there and then propose it on their mailing list
after doing more research and documentation.

Absolutely! Its very important to show that you can *do* stuff with
semantics. That's why we support the image thumbnail format on

However, its still early days, and I think the tools for supporting

To do that you'd could use the a type attribute, as in...

 a href="" type=video/mpeg.../a

I have been using the type attribute in combination with rel-enclosure
since 2004. I know it exists. I also know that it's a *hint* to what might
be expected at the end of a link ( URL:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/links.html#adef-type-A ). If you want
to know the content-type do a HEAD request, as a parser you can't trust
the type attribute.

I use it to generate nicer archive pages on my blog so readers can see
what types of enclosures are included before clicking on. Example: URL:
http://www.solitude.dk/archives/2006_05.php

However, that is NOT even enough. Consider this example

 a href="" type=application/ogg.../a

In this case you don't know if the Ogg file contains video, audio, text,
 or
what? (Ogg, like QuickTime, Matroska, 3GPP, ASF, and others, is a
 container
format that you can put all sort of different types of things into it.
 And
not just video. They don't even have to contain any video.)

Thus, another means of semantics is needed.

I disagree. It is enough to know that you're looking at OGG content.
Content can then be handed off to the player application.

It's so easy to blow off someone and say they're just flag waving

But seriously- we aren't that simple and a lot of people may look
liberal or conservative not because it's their true convictions but
it's so damn convenient for them to be that way. I had 2 grandfathers
who served in the US Army during WW II (eventually both were in the

continued his career as a Captain in the Korean War.

Today in my family, there is a Commander and a Lt. JG both active in

In my city you'll see all religions and people who practice no
religions. The world is not all crystal rubbing new age freaks freash

I care about about this country that helped my family and friends
survive through thick and thin. Some dweeb will say hey, USA is
completely immoral (Well ok then, my god is a hamster and his children
is Congress). That's just as bad as radicals who say USA is entirely
no good. USA had 1st on women's sufferage, man on the moon, so much
more for new age dirt eaters brimming with blase, self-important,
clever, apathy to generalize.

I would challenge every apathetic blase snotnose to walk through my
neighborhood ghetto if they are in a bad mood. Let me see the dancing
bear hum out of it, instead of being an internet virtual warrior flamer.

How would they explain illegal immigrants coming here? Maybe- Oh they
are here because we have a lot of corrupt businessmen who will pay
them next to nothing? How about the quota of people trying to gain
asylum here??? Go look at any asylum seekers wish list of countries. I
would bet my assets right now USA is in the top 5.

USA works, not perfectly, it doesn't help to blow off the whole thing.
What is wrong with someone like you, raising a family, a veteran to

I only wish people were so consistent and reliable. Truth is that
there is vast inconsistency in the wild.

Many people use text links to point to videos, sometimes they use
special play button icons to link to videos (not exactly a
thumbnail). Sometimes people link to an HTML page with the media
embedded and somtimes they just embed the media and do not use an
image to link to it. In practice relEnclosure is rarely, if ever used.

Yeah, I know. In regards to thumbnails you can say 'if you want your
thumbnail on fireant you will have to use the image as a link to the
video'. Then people who wants thumbnails will have to make image links,
and you will hopefully get a slow adoption.

We run into all sorts of problems like this trying to parse HTML
descriptions when we aggregate feeds on FireAnt.tv.

If you guys ever want to share any research I'm sure it would be of huge
value to the microformats community.

I don't think adding additional semantic HTML attributes would help
much either. Often the bloggers who post with strange HTML conventions
aren't the type of people who know much about HTML. I certainly
wouldn't expect them to grok a Microformat like rel=media:thumbnail

Yeah my thinking was that hosters like blip that cross post to your

And that's all that's needed.

It does NOT say play it. It does NOT say it is a video. And it does NOT

Answers: It shouldn't, it doesn't have to and it shouldn't.

Whether or not to 'play' a file should be handled by the user's
application. The user is the only person who knows what file types he
wants to 'play'.

Whether or not something is a video is hinted by the type attribute if
available (probably not) and designated by the content-type header. That's
enough to know what player application should handle the file.

It should not say pre-fetch this. That's not proper use of the rel
attribute. It *should* designate the relationship between the two
resources (ie. 'B is an attachment to A') and then the user and his
application can make informed choices on what to do. For example
'pre-fetch all attachments).

What you're probably looking for is a way to group enclosures together to
signal that they represent the same content (a representation of
media:group in HTML). That allows for the same result, with better
mark-up. It's something that Josh K. and I have talked about on this and
microformats lists a couple of times in the past, but we're both busy with
other things as well. :o)

If you had a group (like a class=enclosuregroup) you could use that to
locate a thumbnail.

   how about a new micro-format for rel=media:thumbnail

rel=media:thumbnail could be added to an image in a post so that
 this

services like blip which cross post to your blog could include the

I dissented for a while, but it was over semantics (ahaha. Thank you,

talk about relEnclosure because it is both simple and well-defined.

That's not exactly the Microformat process - its defined pretty well
 on their wiki:

Probably best to start there and then propose it on their mailing list
after doing more research and documentation.

Re: [videoblogging] Idea: New microformat: rel=media:thumbnail

2006-05-31 Thread Joshua Kinberg

Yeah, I know. In regards to thumbnails you can say 'if you want your
thumbnail on fireant you will have to use the image as a link to the
video'. Then people who wants thumbnails will have to make image links,
and you will hopefully get a slow adoption.

Yep, that's exactly what we've done. This is explained in our FAQ.
We also get some thumbnails from MeFeedia through their API, but that
is often less successful than parsing the HTML for images.

If you guys ever want to share any research I'm sure it would be of huge
 value to the microformats community.

The main thing I've learned is that there is literally a cacophony of
markup styles, formats, and standards such that its very difficult to
really nail things down in practice, even when it comes to relatively
vanilla HTML or RSS.

The shoddy XML support in iTunes has definitely not helped matters
when it comes to RSS standardization. Also, there's are a number of
methods people use to try to track downloads with redirect scripts
which can botch things up in innumerable ways.

You're right though, once we get things settled in a little further we
should run some reports and create some sort of state of the
vlogosphere.

We run into all sorts of problems like this trying to parse HTML
descriptions when we aggregate feeds on FireAnt.tv.

If you guys ever want to share any research I'm sure it would be of huge

I don't think adding additional semantic HTML attributes would help
much either. Often the bloggers who post with strange HTML conventions
aren't the type of people who know much about HTML. I certainly
wouldn't expect them to grok a Microformat like rel=media:thumbnail
... but then perhaps broad acceptance is not really the goal of this
  proposal anyway.

be expected at the end of a link ( URL:http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/links.html#adef-type-A ). If you wantto know the content-type do a HEAD request, as a parser you can't trust
the type attribute. In my case (with my _javascript_ thing) everything is done in browser. And although one can do an HTTP HEAD request in some cases using XmlHttpRequest. It can't be done when the video is on a different domain.
I use it to generate nicer archive pages on my blog so readers can seewhat types of enclosures are included before clicking on. Example: URL:
http://www.solitude.dk/archives/2006_05.php However, that is NOT even enough.Consider this example a href="" type=application/ogg.../a
In this case you don't know if the Ogg file contains video, audio, text, or what?(Ogg, like QuickTime, Matroska, 3GPP, ASF, and others, is a container format that you can put all sort of different types of things into it.
And not just video. They don't even have to contain any video.) Thus, another means of semantics is needed.I disagree. It is enough to know that you're looking at OGG content.
Content can then be handed off to the player application. In my case (with my _javascript_ thing) everything is done in browser. What is does is give each a that points to a video an onclick handler. (When the link to the video is clicked, it creates a DHTML player to play the video, instead of just going to the video file.)
In my case, simply handing things off to the player was NOT a possibility. I needed to be able to determine which a's pointed to a video and which didn't. rel-enclosure wasn't enough (for reasons I described earlier in this thread). The a's type attribute wasn't enough (for reasons I described earlier in this thread). So I used class-video (in the style of SMIL's video element).

Welcome to the vlogosphere!

As Jay and others have said re: length of videos, I echo, but add that
I get full-length documentaries via bit torrent. Very large files,
sometimes upwards of a gig or two.

Am curious how the vlog-as-documentary will shake out, as I've one in
mind, so, perhaps the documentarians can share their experiences here.
Hoping Kent Bye will chime in a bit. His Echochamber project is pretty
darned great. http://www.echochamberproject.com/vlog

Just begin to conceive of how it might be to make a vlog doc. Wonder if
documentaries as longer works will 'play' broken into many days'
entries. Seems like it would work well, at least in theory. Do you
begin with a long work and break it up or make a series of shorter
stand-alone works and in the end stitch the many smaller pieces into
the long work?

Best,
Jan

I bet there will be a lot more crossover now too, moving from amateur kids uploading clips of themselves jumping their skateboard, to maybe getting better shots, then maybe deciding to throw a plot in here and there, and eventually enjoying it so much that they want to focus more energy on making good video.
I bet if I had an audience for the ridiculous home videos I made as a kid with my parent's VHS, I would probably be further right now in my skills.I also hate YouTube for the reasons listed so far, and also for the fact that I can't reuse or remix anything because I don't know how to do that with Flash. BUT, in the long run it's a good thing, getting this many people involved involved with video this early in their lives.

Which raises the question... how do jumpcut, eyespot and others actually do re-mixing with flash? Do they create lots of smaller clips out of your uploaded clips or is there some means in flash to clone parts of an flv?

its good to see features like video comments start to become an apparent core feature now. we'll be seeing this just about everywhere and it is a nice enhancement to the wide open videosphere we all play and dabble in. its as important as playlists.

[videoblogging] Re: youtube has video comments

2006-05-31 Thread Heath

Ease of use will always win the day, becuase most people don't care
about copyright and such until someone else starts making money off
there stuff then they will care..but by then...

there will be a select few who change the way it is being done. The
history of media has taught us that. I personaly think this is all
excitingwe are witnessing the dawn of a new age of communication
and video..as more and more people start creating, throwing stuff
up against the wall to see what sticks...the struggle for
survival, those who are opposed to change, or those who can not
predict the impact of a new technology.this is history just
repeating itself

Hmm. Right... I've been learning about these. Thanks, Enric. So does
this mean that a re-mix is not really a downloadable movie but
simply something like a playlist that references parts of different
movies hosted on these sites?

Correct, unless the edit list for the FLVs are rewritten (encoded

Hey OJ,I took a look at your animated vlog - good stuff!I guess it is a matter of finding your week to week format - how the show is going to appear from episode to episode? So you will be able to streamline your productions from week to week.Do you createall the animation from scratch with each episode?I know a fewanimators that followa story biblefor all their episodesand produce severalepisodes (aheadof time) before release on the net...that way they are able to release one a week whileproducing the others. Some simplify their animation format or look of the show in order to deliver a weekly show...but the animationis not so complex.Johnie T ojjolly [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

[videoblogging] New to this grop and this subject., with serveral questions

2006-05-31 Thread Robert

Hello folk.

As the subject said I am new to this group, though I have been lurking
for quite a while. I am also new to the whole world of Vblogging, video
bloging and vpodcasting.

My first question is what is the best video format and codec to use if
one wants not only to post to a blog but have the post downloadable to
an ipod or other video mp3 player. I am a windows person so .wmv
or .avi is the most common format I deal with and I tend to gravitate
toward .divx or xvid codec.

But I do not know if ipods or other portable video players can read
that format. I can convert if necessary. I have just about every
conversion tool know to man.

Thanks

[videoblogging] Re: New to this grop and this subject., with serveral questions

2006-05-31 Thread Bill Streeter

H264 or MP4 encoded Quicktime files or MP4 files with AAC audio are
pretty much the only video formats that the iPod will play back.
Other portable players often require different codecs. MP4 seems to
be somewhat close to a universal standard. But I'm not sure that
there is one perfect universal format that will play on every
portable video device. But if you want to get to the big two, the
PSP and the iPod then MP4 is the way to go.

Re: [videoblogging] New to this grop and this subject., with serveral questions

2006-05-31 Thread David Meade

well ipods need to be mp4 or H.264 encoded quicktime (mov, mp4, or
m4v). PSPs can play mp4s, but I dont think there is an mp4
compression setting that is both Ipod/PSP friendly ... not sure
though. Of course, all the windows handheld devices out there can
play windows media.

If you're already producing WMVs and are up to offering more than one
format, I'd suggest offering a version in an iPod compatible format.
This a) gets you on the ipod and b) lets mac users who hate WMV play
the Quicktime version instead.

one thing to be careful about: Some of those converting tools that
make quicktime movies, dont make them 'fast start' quicktime movies
... and thats kinda annoying.

My first question is what is the best video format and codec to use

Thanks folks for the quick respose. I was not expecting it that

But I do not know if ipods or other portable video players can read

I suppose so. I wonder what the trends will be as vlog as
documentary of its creator and vlog as vehicle for publishing. I
know that for me and my partner, we are far more interested in making
documentaries of other people and fictional short subject material
and aren't so interested in the blogging side of it. I guess we
see ourselves as the equivalent of the person who gets a LiveJournal
account and then writes stories instead of posting about their lives.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Our first real documentary

mins) and trying to organize what I've already shot and what I need to

It can turn into a monster overnight.

Yeah. I have plans for a 20-30 minute short and a mockumentary, both of
which I want to submit to festivals. The vlog is training for that.

The first video project I was on, I actually was in charge of the catalog
of shots and writing up the clapboard so that the editor could keep the
stuff managed. If I had an assistant and was working on a short, I'd go
that route in a heartbeat. A storyboarded short, plus a catalog and a
marked set of takes, basically creates the luxury of working one scene at
a time in a highly organized fashion.

Unfortunately, for this little monster we just did, there was no
storyboard, no plan, and not even an idea of the angle we'd be able to
take. Add on to that noise floor concerns, having to weave together
scenes to recreate the feel of stuff that was mis-shot or ran long, and
uuugghh.

I'm making a checklist for next time so this stays under control.

Ok ... well, if we're into beer snob talk ... I used to brew beer for a long time, and, as is true with all my obsessions, I really got into it, and, anyway, the best beer anywhere is the beer you can get from a true homebrewer (meaning there the kind that brew with grains and real hops and they've done it a long time) who brews in 10 gallon batches and will likely have beer that may have been bottled (kegged more likely) yesterday ... the next best are one of the thousands of brew pubs around the US where you can get fresh beer that has the individual character of that pub and that batch and is, in most cases, very fresh (which is one reason that, as a rule, I don't care much for imported beers, since they are not fresh - though I will say a dream is to drink a fresh bitter in a pub in england, or a fresh dopple bock when the kegs are first tapped in the spring in germany)
... my preference if for lots of hops, like India Pale Ales, but enjoy tasting beers from most any brew pub ... I've heard that California has a lot of these, and I'm wondering if there are any in the area?

Re: [videoblogging] Feed URL in your signature.

2006-05-31 Thread Andreas Haugstrup

It seems simple enough already:

 - Click on blog.
 - Click on feed.
 - Voila!

More important is to use a seperator above your signature. You should be
using two dashes, a space and a line break (no more, no less). See my
signature. That way many email programs will automatically strip the
signature when people hit 'reply'.

[videoblogging] Re: Feed URL in your signature.

2006-05-31 Thread vlogassist

I was hoping people would be signing up to our forum; VlogAssist and
announce their vlog in their footer AND adding it to their profile.

If you are a member of vlogassist you can pull up a list of websites
(vlogs)from all the members who added their website to their profile.
(the list is a click-able linklist).
I did not expand this list (yet) to include the feed but that's
possible too if only people would signup.

Now I could as well tell you about the unique RSS-feed for members,
tailor it to your desire and a very configurable mail notification,
Try it out, we give away domain names too but you have to be a member
to get one (your member number will determine if you get one).

I know a lot of people are reading the forums according to the numbers
but to be on the list you have to sign up.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Feed URL in your signature.

2006-05-31 Thread David Meade

I've found it useful at times. I use feeds all over the place. Often
I'll be in the list and want to check out some stuff from one of the
authors here, but dont want to vlog surf for whatever reason ... so
I'll copy the feed into mefeedia or something and check it out later.

I agree that it's not really needed ... but I dont see a problem with
having it in the sig.

[videoblogging] Re: Feed URL in your signature.

2006-05-31 Thread greg

Yes, it is simple.

However, if you are like me, my screen is visible to like the whole
office and I need to be sneaky.

Can't have someone's vlog splashed all over my screen for management
to see.

They don't pay attention to the text from the emails so much... That
is why if the feed was in the signature, I could add it to my feed
reader and view it later at home.

Then I would not have to go and search through all the messages when
I get home to try to find the post from someone to click on the link
to read their vlog.

Anyway, it was just a thought, and the thought was just for me.

Thanks for the input.

Greg

 It seems simple enough already:

 - Click on blog.

More important is to use a seperator above your signature. You
should be
using two dashes, a space and a line break (no more, no less). See
my
signature. That way many email programs will automatically strip
the
 signature when people hit 'reply'.

Re: [videoblogging] Feed URL in your signature.

I am in the vlog-site then feed camp as well. I like visiting a person's vlog. It gives me a better sense of who they are, what they are into, etc. Sometimes it even give a bit more context to their videos. If I like what I see, then I subscribe to the feed.
Even when I use mefeedia, or bloglines to see what's new in my subscriptions, most time I will go to the site, load the video from there. Unless it's someone that I've been subscribed to for a very long time, in which case I'll load it right up in mefeedia.

[videoblogging] Recording audio itnerviews

2006-05-31 Thread Andreas Haugstrup

This is perhaps slightly off-topic, but I don't know who else to turn to.

I'm going to vloggercon and I plan on recording interviews. For various
practical reasons they'll be audio only, so I need to figure out how to
record those. Problem is: I don't know anything.

I imagine that I need to buy an mp3-player/recorder and a microphone, but
I could really use some advice on what to get. Will any mp3-player with a
line-in work fine and can you recommend a specific model? What kind of mic
should I get if I want the voice(s) of my victims come through, but no the
ambient noise of rowdy videobloggers? And can you recommend a model?

I *am* on a budget, the university sadly won't pay for this (sucks!)

A lot of audio podcasters seem to like the iRiver iFP-890 (and a few
other models) for portable recording. They record at a fairly high
bitrate to mp3 and have a built in mic. You can get a better external
mic to use too because there is a mini mic jack on them too. But these
little things are really small and seem to work really well.

We've used the iRivers and find them very adequate, small, and
affordable. A lot of different models out there, so you can grab
whatever you find. Price varies by MB storage in part. The software
interface is kludgy but otherwise they are a good value I think. Just
pay attention to the mic input vs the headphone input - not that
clearly marked on these small devices, and using the wrong hole can
really screw up an interview!

[videoblogging] Publishing Videos with a Wordpress Plugin

2006-05-31 Thread cooperwef

Hi,

This is Tiffiniy from PCF; we have been developing the Democracy Internet TV platform.

Things have been going well in the internet TV world, but we think simple blogging tools
with video are still scarce. We've been trying to figure out a simple way to let people make
video RSS feeds and channels using their blogging software and we wanted to know what
people were actually interested in when making sharable video channels. We have been
thinking that the simplest way to do something like this is to make a Wordpress plugin for
publishing videos to a video RSS feed. Is this the right thinking on this?

Basically, people could install the plugin and whenever a video link is added, either as an
enclosure or a direct link, the plugin will scrape the enclosure or link and add it to a feed
with associated metadata, description, and thumbnail. Publishers can then go in and add
information about their video channel -- like a description, channel thumbnail, etc.
(Wordpress already does something like this, but doesn't give you a separate video
channel).

Is this something that would be useful to you? Is there a way we could do this better? We
really want to make something that is useful to people and their blogging needs, so any
comments would be extremely informative. If you've got ideas of your own, please share
them.

If you would like to read about the specific features for the plugin, you can go here:

The page above is a wiki, so please feel free to add comments directly to the wiki and it

Re: [videoblogging] Publishing Videos with a Wordpress Plugin

2006-05-31 Thread Joshua Kinberg

From the wiki, it looks like the only thing I would add would be the option of making different feeds for different formats, as mentioned above. Lots of people need that, and with no absolute web video codec being decided upon in the near future, I think it's a useful addition.

+1 on that!

This is one of the things I really don't like about WP. Its not as
easy as MovableType when it comes to generating separate feeds (yeah,
i know it does feeds for categories out of the box, but its hard to
have a separate feeds for specific file types as Adam mentions).

Also, it would be nice if there were an easy way to generate MRSS
compliant feeds that include multiple file formats in the same feed
using media:group.

 Hi Tiffiniy,

It would be great to have something like this so your average Wordpress user doesn't have to hack on their templates so much.

For example, to make 2 different feeds, one for QT and one for WMV, I had to install this get_custom plugin (http://www.coffee2code.com/wp-plugins/#getcustom) and use it in each feed to get the enclosure values quicktime and windows from a custom field in the post. It shouldn't be that hard.

A big round WP Video plugin would be very welcome I think. You could even integrate some of the features of the plugins Josh mentioned earlier.

[videoblogging] 3D animator [WAS Re: Elephants Dream film is an open source success story]

Hi Johnie,

Thanks. I'd say that about 70% of the animation is new for each
episode. Thanks for your tips... some things for me to consider.

Just spent quite a bit of time following several links on your
cartoons page on cartoonmogul.com. Wow! The modeling and character
animiation of Sussi, highly dynamic Dance on Web, Ze Frank humor,
overwhelming, what a collection!

I took a look at your animated vlog - good stuff! I guess it is a
matter of finding your week to week format - how the show is going to

from scratch with each episode?

I know a few animators that follow a story bible for all their
episodes and produce several episodes (ahead of time) before release
on the net...that way they are able to release one a week while
producing the others.

Some simplify their animation format or look of the show in order
to deliver a weekly show...but the animation is not so complex.

availability of free time to complete their shorts.

There are definitely more online animations out there floating in
 the internet.

My default feed doesn't seem to at http://newenglandstories.com/vlog/

I tried the following link too, but it doesn't seem to support
 enclosures:

I'll probably use feedburner, but was wondering where the RSS 2.0
 native support is on Wordpress.

Re: [videoblogging] Wired: Yahoo Video Mimics YouTube

2006-05-31 Thread Joshua Kinberg

Maybe spam vloggers will emerge and start posting the same video to
all of the free services to gain maximum exposure?

I think this already exists.
Not sure if all of it is spam (some of it is), but I know people try
to seed videos in many of these clip sharing communities.

Ultimately, it will be your RSS feed that should syndicate your videos
into all these various services or personalized aggregators, etc... or
so i'd like to think.

An article was just posted on Wired.com about Yahoo Video and how they
are going to start hosting user videos (aka mimic YouTube).

What will drive the average user to post their video to one service
over the other? I assume each will have very similar feature sets.
If a user ultimately wants to embed the video somewhere else, will it
 even matter where they host?

Maybe spam vloggers will emerge and start posting the same video to
all of the free services to gain maximum exposure?
