Recently I've been hearing a strange noise. I've installed the latest FW 2.46 but I'm not sure when this started. It's only audible from an external speaker and cannot be heard through the front headphone jack. The noise is a random, pulsating tone of about 360Hz and sounds a bit like RTTY but

It occurrs on all bands when ESSB is turned on but the sideband varies. On 40 it's really obvious because low output happens in LSB. On 15m it's not obvious because it happens in USB. Elecraft just told me to install the new firmware which I had already done and to do an alignment via the menu.

Wayne I still see a large difference in LSB vs. USB when ESSB is ON. Which sideband is strongest varies by band. LSB is about 50% weaker than USB on 40 meters. Turning ESSB OFF cures the problem but my audio reports are far better with it ON. Is there anything I can do on this end or should I

So I assume you are using one serial port to control the K3 and another to key it? Perhaps the PC is busy doing other task at times. This is why a lot of hams buy the Winkey keyer. I've been able to get by ok by using the parallel port on the pc and the LPT adapter from Hose Nose. Steve

Is the K3's wattmeter a peak reading type? If so, it only kicks up to about 50 watts until I increase the TXG VCE to 3 db which makes it double to 100 watts. So far, audio reports are good. Someone here reported distortion of some kind when doing this however. I really need a proper external
