I'm still quite busy with real life, but when I see references to "moderators should have blah blah blah" it's time for me to remind folks that Rick already has the forum moderated as he sees fit. As for Judy, unless I missed something, we don't know what's up with her or why she left. Personally, I don't understand why people would be drawn to engage in the ego monkey bullshit that makes up the bulk of FFL's traffic, but it is what it is. I do understand why people object to Barry's toxic behavior, but that's who he is and what he does, and it has not changed. So, why keep reacting to an energy creature who seeks reaction? ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : ? “..the role of principle Barry hater - and you have to admire the gusto!” No, we all rate posts as we may read them on spectrum; from posts that make: Observations, to suggestions, to criticism, by negativity and tone, to apostasy, thence to active anger and hating. In reading these posts I feel Ann through reading the individual postings here simply lost some faith more in Turq by her better understanding of his writing and approach here after reading the Lenz book that was posted here. It is that simple also. I always read the Turq and feel he has a valid perspective from having 'been there' at a time, by his contrast with spiritual experience like Fleet's, and now I feel I have an even better understanding of him as a critic from this recent Freddy Lenz/Rama thread on FFL. Context often is everything. That is something that is particularly good about the writing on FFL, that it often can render down what is truth. Judy was very much part of that process when she was here. Ann also helps with that by virtue of her mind about things and by life experience as context about things here. Some here have been pricks and Ann may be prickly towards people at times. Rick seems to welcome almost everyone contributing to the related topics of FairfieldLife. I thank Rick for that. Public forum is often one of the best checks against theocratic tyranny. There was an amazing open meeting last night in meditating Fairfield where everything was on the table in front of a bunch of the higher-up apparatchiks of the new TM movement. For upward pressures on the organization being beyond theocratic control, FFL has long been a part of the calculus of the meditating Fairfield communal culture. There is a lot of change going on inside right now by virtue of the attention of public forum. Turq in his way has been part of that for years by force of his experience, personality and writing. I would miss him if he gets entirely hounded or completely embarrassed off of this forum. In the same way I feel it was really mean the way they hounded Judy personally off this list and out of this community. Rick and the moderators should have stopped that before the end. I would hope we could all be kinder with one another in process. Jai Guru Dev, -Buck in the Dome

I was adopted, and my biological mother, of English and German descent, revealed nothing about my biological father. Thanks to DNA testing and a paternal haplogroup that occurs almost exclusively in one ethnic group, I now know that I'm the result of a New York Jew knocking up a shiksa. I'm also 2.9% Neanderthal, which is near the high end of Neanderthal genetic content. And, I'm APO E4/E4, which puts me at the absolute highest risk for Alzheimer's; E4 is the original form of that allele, with the E2 and E3 forms having evolved later. This amuses me greatly, because for all of Fairfield's spiritual dogmas about evolution and being more evolved, etc., I am literally a less evolved human being. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Otherwise known as the "Where yer people hailed from" test. I grew up in a petless household because my family's experiment in dog ownership ended before my time when George Washington, a dachshund, grew ornery after my sister kept trying to ride him. My only experience with pet ownership was the 16 years that our household was dominated by cats, and that came to a tragic end, 13 months ago, when we had to put down our most beloved kitty. What's especially sad is that of our 16 years with her, what stands out the most in my memory of her is her final months of declining health. As cute and lovable as those dogs look, all I can think of is the unbelievable pain and heartbreak you will experience when they die. Blue jays head straight for them over other kinds of seeds. Smaller birds will try to carry off a large unshelled peanut in preference to a bird feeder. High fat and protein. Birds go for that. Birds will choose GMO seeds that have higher protein over natural ones of the same kind. The idea that peanuts are bad comes from their being hard to digest. About 30% of the fat in peanuts tends to not get digested. An Ayurvedic no no. If you get stranded in a winter wilderness with a lot of peanuts and you are Ayurvedic in dietary preferences, you die. Actually some Ayurvedic sources say to reduce, not necessarily eliminate peanuts. Peanuts have a strong odor, so perhaps that is another reason spiritually minded dogmatists are against them. Also the Vedic people did not know about peanuts. India got its first peanuts in the 18th century. Vedic proscriptions do not specifically apply to the peanut as a result, modern Vedic-ites retrofitted proscriptions against nuts to them. It's all about nuts, but it is not clear whether the proscribed articles are the food or the eater of the food or both. Let us say it is perhaps unhealthy to be around nuts according to this view. [FairfieldLife] Re: Premature deaths
Since childhood, Petra had always had a delicate GI tract, and as she got older, it got worse. Because her condition was in the IBS spectrum, where doctors can look but not find anything, modern medicine was not much help except for H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitors. So, she turned to all manner of alternative health modalities and ideologies. Unfortunately, she glommed on to the idea that all it takes is the right cleanse, and she did some kind of extreme Ayurvedic cleanse where she drank a quart of salt water. It ended up washing away her microbiome, and her GI tract went completely haywire. She was very sick with that for two years before going to see medical doctors, and it was a CT scan to check for a hiatal hernia that showed she had very advanced, metastatic breast cancer (it had spread to her liver and spine.) We speculate that the cleanse wiped out her immune system, allowing the cancer to take hold. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Re: stats of meditators in FF going on to greener pastures: The stats only show that the deaths are not premature in comparison to the general US population, but that isn't saying much. Mentioned before: Magnesium, Sulfur, and Selenium. Here's another one, that can help prevent Dementia and Alz. and even reverse Alz to a certain extent in the beginning stages.: Lithium in microdoses. The optimum amount would be in the range of 300 mcg to 3 mg. Side effects may emerge with the much higher (hundreds or thousands of times more) dosages used in clinical psychiatry. So don't be fooled by spurious internet claims that Lithium has serious side effects. Just stick to the microdoses. Oh gawd, not the friggin' chapel drama again. When I was at MIU, I had to meditate on the rock-hard pews in that mold-filled shithole. It was full of mold because the roof leaked; they threw a bunch of money at the roof, and it didn't stay fixed because the foundation was crumbling. It was gonna cost around half a million dollars to fix the foundation, and it didn't make sense to spend that kind of money on a building that wasn't all that useful to the university. Plus, it was also Sthapatya Vedicly wonky. OMG!!! SATANIC HINDOOS WHO HATE JEEBUS DESTROYED A CHURCH! But, the old St. Mary's Catholic Church, which was built within 5 years of Barhydt Chapel and had similar severe structural issues, was also torn down. crickets chirping No one gave two shits that the Catholics tore down their own old church building. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Large meeting. Interestingly, about two thirds of the suggestions and comments had to do with the IAA, Super Radiance, and the Domes. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Maharishi Jyotish Council's Tips for Eclipse
I don't think people ==should== be outside. I think they should do what feels right for them. For me, that meant driving down to the path of totality to watch. I kept an eye on the weather for 10 days, and on Sunday, I decided that I really wasn't up to the 13 hour drive out to Casper WY, where the skies would have been clear. I knew I'd be settling for partly cloudy weather from Nebraska to Illinois, so I ended up taking the shortest drive, down to Columbia MO. I parked in the Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area, where there was a small crowd of other like-minded folks. It took an hour and change from the start until totality, and when that last little bit of sun disappeared, it was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The shared experience in the crowd was that words can't describe the magnificence of it. It was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. Pure, awe-inspiring glory of Nature. Amazing. Oh, and the animals didn't "go crazy"; they quieted down. And, during totality, we could see Venus. It was so cool. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Of course everyone should be outside! I've never understood that "spiritual" kinda tapas, and why people get off on it. It's like they expect some kinda "brownie points" for *resisting* something that the Natural Tendency Of Their Minds is drawing them towards? WTF? Just doesn't compute for me. I don't even get the concept. I mean, is some god or some Law Of Nature supposed to be *impressed* by some monk who (similar to TM guys on rounding courses) spends 90% of his time thinking about sex, but isn't really ever gettin' any? Seems to me that the god or the Law in question would want the guy to Go Get Laid Already, so that he could come back to meditation and spend a little time transcending. Anyway, I like the Spanish version of tapas much more. Little dishes of fish or shellfish or veggies or meats, small enough so that you can order 3 to start with and stop there if that satisfies you, or order 3 more (or 12 more) if the first course doesn't. It's a perfect eating style for me, because I tend to have a small appetite and like to "graze," rather than eating a long, full meal. YMMV. This is a very important post. We now know that bawee likes to graze rather than eat a full meal. I will go forth today feeling that much more enriched and empowered. Keep these posts coming bawee. And, I was not disappointed because you were able, as is your usual style and form, to denigrate others while showing the rest of us how lucky and special you are because you have access to tapas in Leiden. Well done. I have a feeling you did not take this picture of the actual meal you consumed.

*ESPECIALLY* if it's a cougar eating a fawn! I gotta say that in my version of paradise, there are a lot more predators and far fewer landscape-preying prey. Any tree that we want alive has to be surrounded by welded wire fence. And, with the recent explosion in the bunny population, the lower half of each deer fence now has to be wrapped in chicken wire. The tree-killing varmints are seriously out of control out here... might have something to do with the collapse of the coyote population. Personally, I use all the mainstream OSs. My webserver is an iMac. My office desktop is a fanless, completely silent PC running Win 7. My favorite laptop is a 13" aluminum MacBook. I have two iPads, and my phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4. My least favorite of those OSs is iOS, but the iPads are really great for the limited things I use them for. With the two apps I use that are available for both Android and iOS, DirecTV and IP Cam Viewer, in both cases, the iPad versions are far superior to the Android versions. In terms of playing music, I absolutely hate Apple devices and iTunes. I like my ancient MP3 player that takes a single AAA battery and is loaded by simply dragging folders and files onto it in Windows Explorer. The kitchen "radio" is a refurb Windows laptop with Winamp, because it is far superior at playing and bookmarking online streaming stations than anything in the Appleverse. As for a laptop used as a mobile device, Windows is total shit compared to the MacBook. The Mac's multitouch touchpad is vastly superior, and closing the lid on a Macbook puts it into a sleep mode that actually works, unlike any Windows laptop I've ever owned. My MacBook goes in and out of sleep mode for months on end without a complete reboot, and it always works perfectly; open the lid, the desktop comes up instantly, and it logs onto the WiFi; shut the lid, and it goes back to sleep. For a phone, I really like Android. For me, the menu and back buttons make it a far more usable OS than iOS. And, it's also really nice being able to root Android and gain greater control over the phone. But, Petra's two Android phones were never a good match for her limited technical abilities. Yeah, wireless power transmission never struck me as a very good idea. My experience with network cameras is that you get what you pay for. I have four of them: an ancient Axis, a much newer Axis, a Panasonic PTZ, and a D-Link. The D-Link is basically crap, but its built-in IR emitters are handy for seeing in the dark, so I keep it in the garage, pointed at Petra's parking bay, so I can see at a glance if she's home. The Panasonic is no great performer, but the image quality is better than the D-Link, and the PTZ is kinda fun, so I have it installed way up high in a cupola window, so that I can scan the entire eastern horizon. The ancient Axis is pointed out an upstairs window, and the newer Axis is down in the basement, pointed at all the controls for the solar hot water. Axis IP cams cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars, and they are worth every penny. My IP cam wet dream is an Axis outdoor high-def PTZ with built-in heater, mounted on top of my 80' TV antenna tower; the view from that would be incredible. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Just think if Tesla got his way and broadcasted electricity? Yeah, Axis is some serious hardware. I'd purchased the $99 D-link to point at the solar controls, and it had nowhere near the resolution to read the LCD displays. And, that's a screen cap of video playing in Firefox. As for network cameras hooked up to WiFi, my experience is limited to the D-Link, and on WiFi, I'd have to reboot it every one or two weeks because it would stop responding. After hooking the garage up to Cat 5 and giving the D-Link a wired connection, the camera rarely ever needs to be rebooted. Wifi is great for gadgets that need intermittent Internet access, but for a server, I just don't think WiFi is robust enough for continuous, reliable connectivity. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : That is a a sharp image from the Axis. Most won't have a 1080p camera though. Black and Decker had a DIY system several years ago that would phone out in the way Canary does. I did sort out the differences between the two Swann systems: one is P2P over 2.4ghz and the other (more expensive) wifi. The one video review of the latter wasn't too positive and I can imagine it might have difficulty using wifi. I might pick up the P2P system and see how well it works with just the one camera from the places where I want two cameras. At the local neighborhood watch meeting a month back they had an ADT rep here but to date I don't seen any new installations including with the folks that put together the meeting. In fact there are only two houses in the neighborhood with security cameras and one might just have the fake ones. I agree with Feste. As much as I don't care much for Jedi due to his having been creepy and offensive in private emails to me in the past, I don't think his comment about the Torah and Judaism warranted a ban from FFL. Oh fer cryin' out loud, Ann, do I have to explain *everything* to you? It's really quite simple. The "Yoga Lite" that is TM didn't raise the transcendental kundalini bliss of the 4th chakra's sushumna, and thus, the Hiranyagarbha was not recognized. A few years ago, while driving one hour to Burlington, I tried listening to a streaming Internet station playing on my Galaxy S2, and it was ok except it would drop out periodically (my guess: it was cutting out when the phone was being passed from one tower to another). [FairfieldLife] Re: Colloidal Silver
You can save a lot of money by making your own for about a dollar per gallon. It can be done with as little as two silver wires and three 9v batteries, but it is well worth the money to buy a current controlled unit that shuts itself down when the desired strength is reached. Two worthy units: http://silverpuppy.com/ http://silverpuppy.com/ http://www.silvergen.com/ http://www.silvergen.com/ Another wise investment is a water distiller, as the water you distill at home is likely to be purer than the stuff from the store, plus it will not have leached all sorts of plastic taste/smell from sitting on a shelf for months. Please be aware that properly made CS has exactly two ingredients: pure steam distilled water and .999+ pure silver. NEVER use tap water or add stuff like salt or baking soda. All the scare stories of people who turned themselves blue with excessive silver intake trace back to improperly made homebrew CS or concentrated silver compounds. Properly made, homemade CS will top out at about 20 PPM; at that concentration, you'd kill yourself with excessive water intake before you'd ever ingest enough silver to cause argyria.

I guess it's an ok phone for those who *really* like to dwell in the Amazon home world. I'm an Amazon Prime member (strictly for the free shipping) because we constantly buy stuff on Amazon that we can't get locally. But, I don't even use the Amazon mobile app, and I sure as hell wouldn't want an Android phone that has been proprietarily broken to not be able to install apps off the Google Play store. On top of all that, it only works on AT&T, which has terrible coverage in rural Iowa. Re: WiFi Last year, I posted about the expansion of WiFi on campus: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FairfieldLife/conversations/messages/337398 https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FairfieldLife/conversations/messages/337398 "MUM Expands Wireless Access on Campus In response to student requests and the need for more convenient Internet access, MUM is expanding WiFi availability on campus. Originally limited to the student lounge in the Argiro Student Center, and now also available in the Library, WiFi is being planned for Residence Hall 144, Residence Hall 106, Hildenbrand Hall, and other residence halls. As many as a dozen additional wireless routers will be installed over time, said Tom Hirsch, director of information technology and telecommunications at MUM. The decision to go ahead was made only after a thorough review of the scientific literature found that there were no documented health effects. Mr. Hirsch points out that the signal strength of WiFi is a hundred to a thousand times weaker than that of a cell phone. Nevertheless, the routers will be off-limits in certain areas, such as the Vastu dorms and high-traffic public areas. Mr. Hirsch also said that the particular routers being used, made by Ruckus, aren't omnidirectional, as is the case with most routers. Instead of sending a signal in all directions, like a light bulb, they use a system of 1219 antennas to find the best transmitting pattern for the wireless device they're communicating with and send a more focused signal like the beam of a flashlight. The result may be less ambient radiation as well as a stronger, more reliable signal for the user. "More devices today are WiFi only, such as the iPad and MacBook Air," Mr. Hirsch said. "Students had been setting up their own routers, frequently causing problems with the campus network." He also said the signals from their routers would often interfere with each other, resulting in degraded performance. The new routers will offer better service to students and contribute to convenient access to the campus network."

Iowa law does require that the openly carried long gun be unloaded, so either the open carrier is a criminal or pencil-dick douchebag making a grandiose display of an unloaded weapon. The only openly carried firearms you're likely to see in Iowa are those carried by hunters on private property and law enforcement. The open carry idiocy that passes for edgy protest down in Texas wouldn't play too well up here. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : On 7/13/2014 5:45 PM, Michael Jackson mjackso...@yahoo.com mailto:mjackso...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife] wrote: Yew mean yew boys ain't got no open carry groups out thar in Farifield what takes ther AR15's into Sonic to make a statement? > Not sure exactly how you'd take an AR-15 into Sonic, since Sonic is a curb-service eatery in your vehicle. Re: [FairfieldLife] For The Aging FFL Community
The issue of Alzheimer's and diet is of great interest to me because as an APO E4/E4, I am genetically in the highest risk group for Alzheimer's. What I read most often is that E4/E4 people have problems metabolizing fats and should therefore eat a low-fat, high-carb diet, with an emphasis on avoiding saturated fats. But, coconut oil is almost entirely saturated fat, and it is beneficial for people with Alzheimer's. And in my case, I have metabolic issues with carbs, not fats. To me, this all points to metabolic individuality and the futility of making one-size-fits-all dietary recommendations. With Alzheimer's sometimes described as diabetes of the brain, my approach to this is a diet that minimizes the huge spikes in blood sugar and insulin to which I'm prone. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Coconut oil, coconut milk drinks, coconut this and that have been mainstream for the last few years in the US. With my weight as low as it is, I can justify cheats a few times a week, but I finally linked blasts of carbohydrate intake to insanely painful leg cramps. The worst offender is a brownie, no doubt due to the potent combo of sugar and starch. But a large enough portion of ice cream or even a large sushi roll can cause cramps. You can feel the ion wind coming off ion generators and ionic air cleaners, but the volume of air really isn't comparable to any kind of air filter that has a fan. That said, any positively charged surface in the vicinity of a negative ion generator will be plated with airborn dirt particles. When the positively charged surface is a painted wall, the dirt plating is permanent, as we discovered with our first negative ion generator. That's why there was a shift to designs that include cleanable positively charged collector plates. In cars, positive ions are a huge contributor to road fatigue. The first time I took a road trip with an automotive negative ion generator, I drove four hours straight without really realizing I had driven that long without a break. In a car, those things are nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately, the units I've purchased in recent years have been cheap crap that don't last very long. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Negative Ions Create Positive Vibes http://www.webmd.com/balance/features/negative-ions-create-positive-vibes Negative Ions Create Positive Vibes http://www.webmd.com/balance/features/negative-ions-create-positive-vibes There's something in the air that just may boost your mood -- get a whiff of negative ions. Devices are marketed to produce negative ions and to clean the air of particulates. I am not sure just how these various devices are marketed since it would seem one could emphasise health benefits from the ions, or health benefits from crap being removed from the air. Consumer Reports court case, which deals with low throughput of the air flow: Consumer Reports, a non-profit U.S.-based product-testing magazine, reported in October 2003 that air ionisers [negative ion generator] do not perform to high enough standards compared to conventional HEPA filters. The exception was a combination unit that used a fan to move air while ionizing it. In response to this report, The Sharper Image, a manufacturer of air ionisers (among other products), sued Consumer's Union (the publishers of Consumer Reports) for product defamation. Consumer Reports gave the Ionic Breeze and other popular units a "fail" because they have a low Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). CADR measures the amount of filtered air circulated during a short period of time, and was originally designed to rate media-based air cleaners. The Sharper Image claimed that this test was a poor way to rate the Ionic Breeze, since it does not take into account other features, such as 24-hour a day continuous cleaning, ease of maintenance, and silent operation. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California subsequently struck down The Sharper Image's complaint and dismissed the case, reasoning that The Sharper Image had failed to demonstrate that it could prove any of the statements made by Consumer Reports were false. The Court's final ruling in May 2005 ordered The Sharper Image to pay US $525,000 for Consumer Union's legal expenses. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Biggest problem is finding one that isn't complete garbage. Brilliant - unprincipled, scummy, and underhanded, but brilliant, nonetheless. The nickname GW Bush had for him, was, "Turd Blossom". Kinda says it all. :-) ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote : Karl Rove is questioning Hillary Clinton's health for running as president in the next election. In her jyotish chart, it shows that she will be running a weak Sun in her first house. So, that means that this health issue will be a major factor in her decision to run for the presidency. It is likely that she will address this point on February 17, 2015 by announcing that she will not run for the office. http://news.yahoo.com/rove-hillary-clinton-brain-damage-135738855.html http://news.yahoo.com/rove-hillary-clinton-brain-damage-135738855.html

The answer lies on the website, itself: http://www.newslo.com/about-us/ http://www.newslo.com/about-us/ "JUST ENOUGH NEWS…Newslo is the first hybrid News/Satire platform on the web. Readers come to us for a unique brand of entertainment and information that is enhanced by features like our fact-button, which allows readers to find what is fact and what is satire. Newslo’s “No Need to Satirize” brings you completely factual stories that are so ridiculous, they don’t need our trademark touch. Whenever you see #NNTS, you’re reading COMPLETELY real news that only seems too absurd to be true." Read the story on the website, and you can see what's factual and what's not: http://www.newslo.com/senator-rubio/ http://www.newslo.com/senator-rubio/
