The problem with Barry is that some people, not
knowing any better, take what he says seriously.

Add these to Ann's list: I am free to ignore the
quack peddling harmful remedies to the gullible;
or the radio talk-show host lying about a
politician; or the person spreading false rumors
about his neighbor's wife.

A while back when I was experimenting with including an image in a post 
when I downloaded the post and looked at the source the image data was 
actually there but disassociated with the post so it wouldn't display.  
IOW, like when we use an email client to embed a picture and that works 
but Yahoo breaks the association.  Aren't nanny states and corporations 
great?

On a similar subject, AOL laid off about half their Patch staff (500 
people) yesterday and are supposedly going to shut down a lot of Patch 
sites across the country.  We have one for this town but it is rather 
lame so if they shut it down it would not be a great loss. Thing is, 
before a recent upgrade of the Patch software, people were very active 
on it.  When they upgraded the software people's logins got broken and 
autologins stopped working.  I suspect many of the local users couldn't 
remember their login.  In fact I think with the old software I only had 
to login once and it maintained it from then on.  Nowadays I have to 
login again too frequently.

It brings up a certain issue.  Small town papers have gone away along 
with small town radio stations.  That's where you could find the news.  
There is one big corporate run paper in this area and they are piss poor 
at local reporting.  So news blogs and web sites are the replacement.  
But many are run with this corporate sites like Patches which need to 
generate enough ad revenue to exist.  We have one local blog that is NOT 
a Patch but part of a Bay Area news service that is quite good about 
news.  The other problem with Patch sites is they are often run by tech 
semi-illiterates who might have been able to set up, using a static IP, 
their own server costing next to nothing to run.  People throw away old 
computers that are quite capable of running a small town blog.

Well, some years back, they did mess with it in a major way: they did away with 
storing file attachments, including the removal of all previously stored 
attachments in the archives. People had been using adult Yahoo Groups to trade 
porn images and video clips, and the attachments must have been taking up huge 
amounts of drive space on the servers.

jeez turq, it's just another yucky part of being human, liking to think we 
might be better than others. Maybe had survival value at one time and thus 
hardwired into the reptilian brain. And because that aspect is so very tricky, 
you got the ones who are unconsciously and or secretly proud of their 
humbleness! My guess is that a real saint doesn't bother about it very much at 
all. IMLE (in my limited experience) devotion and or gratitude are the best 
remedies. Enliven another part of the brain, save the psychology.

wanted to see it from the beginning. Right before he temporarily left, he 
mentioned having to scroll back 3 pages to find something.


As for my other question...oh I see what you mean. Well with unlimited posting 
there might be way more short, snappy posts and way less longer post, which 
aren't by definition, IMHO, therefore more substantive. But that's another 
topic altogether!

206 posts' worth this past week, either replying
to something I posted, or mentioning me, just from
the four core members of the MGC alone. Overall, 
subtracting the posts *I* made from the total, I'm 
mentioned or cited in over a third of all posts. 

I think one could make a case for "focused on." :-)

I am on record here; I've sinned mightily far beyond the immorality of sitting 
in a cafe and farting.  The stone you hand me, Dr., cannot be firstly thrown by 
me -- it's against the laws of Christian Physics!  

Perhaps if you really want me to dislike Barry, you'll tell me how to 
prioritize my scheduling of my hatred, cuz there's, like, say, oh I don't know, 
let's go with 4,935,634,545 people on the planet who are messing up in truly 
Kali Yuga mindfully wrought spectacularities, and sorting them out is a bother, 
but brother Barry surely isn't one of the terrorists, one of the fascists, one 
of the Illuminati, one of the corrupt politicians, one of the war lords, one of 
the psychotics ruining life for (actual number alert) 99.9 percent of humanity.

So, nah, he's just a rascal.  Let me know if he's given you a paper cut or he's 
hit you with a spitball, before I'll give Barry any Badge of Evil Distinction.  

And though I can field strip and reassemble any of my Trikkes blindfolded, I 
have a trikking buddy who's helping me with the new beast we're birthing; we 
are not inventing wizards, we make a ton of mistakes, break stuff, pretending 
we're doing Zen and the Art of Trikke Manifestance -- it ain't Menlo Park over 
here.  Last week we scrapped almost the whole design, and there went $1500 
worth of new parts that won't be used.  That was us being stupid, ya see?  So 
no credits over here for wrench handiness.

But when this new horse gallops, STAND BACK.  It will spritz rocks and clods 
behind it in twin ROOSTER TAILS OF DEATH.  Or, take a 42 year old mom to the 
store and back with six bags of groceries for about two cents worth of 
electricity.  

Got a big vision going here, so, yep, I'm as dangerous as a combo of Henry Ford 
and Ramana Maharshi.the world could actually change its carbon footprint 
because of this machine or something like it, and I'm exploring what it would 
take to make that happen.  And the smells of French farts have yet to distract 
me.

fighting back." That would be a quite extraordinary

Ahem. Who obsessed on *whom* during this last
week? I might point out that the person you're
naming as the obsessor in this scenario neither 
responded to nor mentioned the people obsessing 
on *him* the whole week. Now do a quick count on 
the number of posts they made obsessing on him. 

So much for their claim that "We only attack 
him because he attacks us."

That said, I have no objections to the post 
count thingy being discontinued if most people
here want it to be. It's been so pleasant NOT
interacting with a certain group of people here
that I will likely continue that approach after
this experiment is over. They, from their side,
are free to continue obsessing on me and Share
and the rest of their "enemies," thus demon-
strating who and what they are to anyone with
eyes to see it. Win-win. 

My larger prediction was, and remains, that 
whether limited to 50 posts or 200, there really
aren't a lot of interesting ideas being posted
on FFL, and most of the ones that are posted and
argued about are Other People's Ideas. I think

Stay tuned, Alex, I have a solution.  I think I mentioned here that I built a 
motorized Trikke that's faster than any that they sell as production models.  
Goes 18.5 mph on the flats, faster downhill, of course, and it's a thrill, but 
it's not enough from me to tell you that your long gravel road isn't a problem. 
 

But.  I'm working on building a much more powerful model.  With dual rear wheel 
drive and a whole lotta other stuff.  Can't say too much more, so this 
"announcement" is a mere teaser, but I'm thinking about ya as a test rider.  Do 
you have life insurance?

Here is one idea, that I had a while ago, when this discussion came up, of how 
to improve the overall quality of the forum.

The idea is to have a summary, a daily synopsis of the BEST OF FFL. Of course, 
YMMV regarding what is the BEST, it could be simply a very well written, 
entertaining piece of writing, like the post Barry just made about Avignon, it 
could be a satire, it could also be a discussion back and forth, were good and 
new arguments are being presented on each side, but put into a format easy to 
read.

All in all, it should be something, that stands on its own, which doesn't refer 
to other posts which you would have to follow. 

There is something similar called NDhighlights

material from different other Yahoo groups related to non-duality.

Anyway, such a synopsis, could clear the wheat from the chaff, but it would 
need some work. It would be more readable, and could entice people to format 
their posts better, and to write more content to make it into the Highlight 
version. But it also would need people to edit it, best a variety of people 
with different POVs. Its just an idea.

Yep, my own abuse to all of you will be less. I agree with Auth, it will taper 
down. It allowed us to get to know one another on topics and my own knee jerk 
comments, well, I pulled a couple realizing my own overture haha. 
One will be lucky to see me post 40 next week!

There's just too much to ignore at the moment, it was easy when

week was sort of like a bunch of malnourished people
