Ann, emptybill has mentioned the death of his wife which is not uncommon. And
in his telling, it did not sound like it left him with *mere disappointment.*

Anny Oakleaf gets her gun ...

I, in the meantime, will continue to address what I feel needs

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc

Why you're so right Anny.
Unmoistened by sentimentality.

Yep, exaggeration is the essence of your proclamations:

I'm also free to ignore the friend who repeatedly beats her dog.
I am free to ignore the woman who has fallen in the street and can't get
up.
I am free to ignore the fact that my house is on fire.
I am free to ignore the fact that I am bleeding from a knife wound in my
neck.
I am free to ignore a baby bird who has just fallen out of a nest.

Yep, it's limitless calamity, horror and destruction if you let Barry
say whatever, as your examples so effortlessly demonstrate.

Barry has always indulged in exaggerated claims.

The problem with Barry is that some people, not
knowing any better, take what he says seriously.

Add these to Ann's list: I am free to ignore the
quack peddling harmful remedies to the gullible;
or the radio talk-show host lying about a
politician; or the person spreading false rumors
about his neighbor's wife.

Oh when oh when we will be able to see Obaa-bin-nobi in the role perfect

A while back when I was experimenting with including an image in a post
when I downloaded the post and looked at the source the image data was
actually there but disassociated with the post so it wouldn't display.
IOW, like when we use an email client to embed a picture and that works
but Yahoo breaks the association. Aren't nanny states and corporations
great?

On a similar subject, AOL laid off about half their Patch staff (500
people) yesterday and are supposedly going to shut down a lot of Patch
sites across the country. We have one for this town but it is rather
lame so if they shut it down it would not be a great loss. Thing is,
before a recent upgrade of the Patch software, people were very active
on it. When they upgraded the software people's logins got broken and
autologins stopped working. I suspect many of the local users couldn't
remember their login. In fact I think with the old software I only had
to login once and it maintained it from then on. Nowadays I have to
login again too frequently.

It brings up a certain issue. Small town papers have gone away along
with small town radio stations. That's where you could find the news.
There is one big corporate run paper in this area and they are piss poor
at local reporting. So news blogs and web sites are the replacement.
But many are run with this corporate sites like Patches which need to
generate enough ad revenue to exist. We have one local blog that is NOT
a Patch but part of a Bay Area news service that is quite good about
news. The other problem with Patch sites is they are often run by tech
semi-illiterates who might have been able to set up, using a static IP,
their own server costing next to nothing to run. People throw away old
computers that are quite capable of running a small town blog.

Gotta admit, sort of a funny cause to take on. Sounds like you're
running a continual test, and those who react in way you deem indicates
attachment, fail.

How long do you intend to run this test?

Well, some years back, they did mess with it in a major way: they did away with
storing file attachments, including the removal of all previously stored
attachments in the archives. People had been using adult Yahoo Groups to trade
porn images and video clips, and the attachments must have been taking up huge
amounts of drive space on the servers.

jeez turq, it's just another yucky part of being human, liking to think we
might be better than others. Maybe had survival value at one time and thus
hardwired into the reptilian brain. And because that aspect is so very tricky,
you got the ones who are unconsciously and or secretly proud of their
humbleness! My guess is that a real saint doesn't bother about it very much at

If part of my "goal" were to get TMers or other seekers

others to *demonstrate* their own attachments, hatreds,
and reactivity, and thus point out the difference between

WHAT in the post do they focus on? WHAT do they react

"What you focus on, you become."

Are you suggesting that they have no *choice* but to
react the way they do? That's not much of a commercial

Bogus excuse. Hardly anybody here ever does that.

Except Barry, of course, who does it *constantly*.

That isn't why Barry does it. He does it because it
makes him feel superior and more powerful. The older
he gets, the more inadequate he feels, and the more
compulsive and sadistic his posts become. I've watched
his development for 17 years.

You seem to be conveniently overlooking that most reactivity toward you is in
response your own reactive/egoic, separation-creating behavior. For example, a
very common theme of your posts is to describe something enjoyable in your life
with a zinger at the end how TM/FFLers/seekers are bad/wrong.

...so, he flatters Barry's flatulence, in hopes of using him, one day, as an
unlimited power source? Edg, What am I missing here - how are you going to
compress Barry's gas? Methane has a comparatively low BTU output, compared to
say, butane.

Judy, I guess salyavin meant that he jumped into a thread midstream and then
wanted to see it from the beginning. Right before he temporarily left, he
mentioned having to scroll back 3 pages to find something.

As for my other question...oh I see what you mean. Well with unlimited posting
there might be way more short, snappy posts and way less longer post, which
aren't by definition, IMHO, therefore more substantive. But that's another
topic altogether!

206 posts' worth this past week, either replying

Nothing's good or bad but thinking makes it so. I can demonize ANYONE or
praise them as if they're divine. So can you. I see some of your choices,
and you see mine.

Like all of us, Barry is a human being who cannot predict any thought before it
manifests. Blind to our brains iz us. And in blindness, we all perforce
stumble.

I am on record here; I've sinned mightily far beyond the immorality of sitting
in a cafe and farting. The stone you hand me, Dr., cannot be firstly thrown by
me -- it's against the laws of Christian Physics!

Perhaps if you really want me to dislike Barry, you'll tell me how to
prioritize my scheduling of my hatred, cuz there's, like, say, oh I don't know,
let's go with 4,935,634,545 people on the planet who are messing up in truly
Kali Yuga mindfully wrought spectacularities, and sorting them out is a bother,
but brother Barry surely isn't one of the terrorists, one of the fascists, one
of the Illuminati, one of the corrupt politicians, one of the war lords, one of
the psychotics ruining life for (actual number alert) 99.9 percent of humanity.

So, nah, he's just a rascal. Let me know if he's given you a paper cut or he's
hit you with a spitball, before I'll give Barry any Badge of Evil Distinction.

And though I can field strip and reassemble any of my Trikkes blindfolded, I
have a trikking buddy who's helping me with the new beast we're birthing; we
are not inventing wizards, we make a ton of mistakes, break stuff, pretending
we're doing Zen and the Art of Trikke Manifestance -- it ain't Menlo Park over
here. Last week we scrapped almost the whole design, and there went $1500
worth of new parts that won't be used. That was us being stupid, ya see? So
no credits over here for wrench handiness.

But when this new horse gallops, STAND BACK. It will spritz rocks and clods
behind it in twin ROOSTER TAILS OF DEATH. Or, take a 42 year old mom to the
store and back with six bags of groceries for about two cents worth of
electricity.

Got a big vision going here, so, yep, I'm as dangerous as a combo of Henry Ford
and Ramana Maharshi.the world could actually change its carbon footprint
because of this machine or something like it, and I'm exploring what it would
take to make that happen. And the smells of French farts have yet to distract
me.

Says Barry, confirming Alex's observation. We all
knew this was the case, of course, but it's
interesting to see Barry admitting to it: the *only*
reason he has been supporting the posting limits
has been to give him more opportunities to "get" me.

(One does hope, however, that he isn't considering
himself to be one of the people "who aren't even
fighting back." That would be a quite extraordinary
delusion, not to mention self-contradictory.)

Barry has many techniques for attacking people
without responding to them directly or mentioning
their names (this present post is an example). And
when he gets tired of those, he attacks by name
folks who aren't here to respond.

Why on *earth* does Barry stick around if FFL is so
overwhelmingly mediocre? Couldn't be because he

could it?

Nobody responds to his posts simply because they

No, from the POV of Yahoo's servers, FFL is merely one of thousands of groups.

Wow! Defensive, much? I applaud your self control during this *one week*, but
you're making like it is a long-term trend, which I definitely need to see to
believe. I know you are feeling all satisfied, having blasted Share lately, and
don't feel that roiling ball of anger within you, just now. But, given your
inability to see your emotions until they explode, I guarantee it will happen
again, just as it did with Curtis. You guys are two peas in a pod.

Alex is spot on here. Get over it.

Ahem. Who obsessed on *whom* during this last
week? I might point out that the person you're
naming as the obsessor in this scenario neither
responded to nor mentioned the people obsessing
on *him* the whole week. Now do a quick count on
the number of posts they made obsessing on him.

So much for their claim that "We only attack
him because he attacks us."

That said, I have no objections to the post
count thingy being discontinued if most people
here want it to be. It's been so pleasant NOT
interacting with a certain group of people here
that I will likely continue that approach after
this experiment is over. They, from their side,
are free to continue obsessing on me and Share
and the rest of their "enemies," thus demon-
strating who and what they are to anyone with
eyes to see it. Win-win.

My larger prediction was, and remains, that
whether limited to 50 posts or 200, there really
aren't a lot of interesting ideas being posted
on FFL, and most of the ones that are posted and
argued about are Other People's Ideas. I think
that's a sad commentary on the philosophy that
promised them all a boost in their "creative
intelligence."

I've been on vacation during this period, and
thus free to just write the things I felt like
writing, on my own schedule. I had fun with that,
and ignored the small shit, not to mention the
small assholes from whence that small shit
issued. :-) I think that a few of my posts in
this period were both creative and Not Other
People's Ideas, but I'll allow you to make your
own assessment of them. I'll probably continue
to do the same thing in the future. Consider it
my balanced, humble, and above all compassionate
attempt to balance out the overwhelming mediocrity
of this place. :-) :-) :-)

People can react to my posts -- and to me -- however
they want. Or, they could realize the folly of
believing that they should, let alone that they
"have to." That's an ego game. If your EGO is
so affronted by something said here by another
poster that you feel the need to "get" them and
convince others that this is a Bad Person, then I
think all you'll accomplish by pursuing that goal
is to demonstrate how big your EGO really is.
*Especially* if you've claimed that you're all
enlightened, and thus don't have one. :-)

In other words, I don't care if the posting limits
are dropped. They've just been a convenient way
to rub one person's nose into her own tendency to
obsess, and continually fight imaginary EGO battles,
often with people who aren't even fighting back.
That will continue to happen whether this person
is able to post 500 times a week, or 5. Those who
consider her their role model will do the same
thing. Their call. The rest of us are free to
react to that -- or NOT react -- as we see fit.

So go forth and leave the Robocop duties to some
other hapless soul if that's what you want to do.
>From my point of view, this experiment is already
a success. Given the opportunity to post as much
as they wanted, most people here -- especially the
small group of people who seem to live for "getting"
the people they don't like -- really DON'T have
anything else to say. If they did, they'd have
taken advantage of this week to say it.

high in the air with both legs open horizontally, almost as if flying.

Stay tuned, Alex, I have a solution. I think I mentioned here that I built a
motorized Trikke that's faster than any that they sell as production models.
Goes 18.5 mph on the flats, faster downhill, of course, and it's a thrill, but
it's not enough from me to tell you that your long gravel road isn't a problem.

But. I'm working on building a much more powerful model. With dual rear wheel
drive and a whole lotta other stuff. Can't say too much more, so this
"announcement" is a mere teaser, but I'm thinking about ya as a test rider. Do

Well, it was originally all about Shemp, Lawson, and Judy. Shemp is gone and
Lawson hardly posts at all, so it's all about Judy, or more to the point,
Barry's obsession with Judy and his need to have her controlled. Frankly, I'm
tired of being a pawn in that ego drama.

Considering that I'm not a heavy poster, and I was never in favor of posting
limits to begin with, I think after all these years of being The Enforcenator,
it's time for FFL's post limit to be enforced by a more active user who
actually is in favor of posting limits. I'll happily keep the post count script
running and handle subscriptions and other helpful stuff as needed, but keeping
track of who overposts and killing/reinstating posting privileges needs to be
done by someone else.

Good for you, I don't blame you. I think we should see how the month goes from
here. I think it would be useful to stop thinking about the number 50 as
relevant to anything. If things get obnoxiously lop-sided or tiresome with
boring posts then we can revisit how to legislate controls. Seems a pity if it
would come to that though.

Continue this free flow! Just because, because, Alex says so!

Here is one idea, that I had a while ago, when this discussion came up, of how
to improve the overall quality of the forum.

The idea is to have a summary, a daily synopsis of the BEST OF FFL. Of course,
YMMV regarding what is the BEST, it could be simply a very well written,
entertaining piece of writing, like the post Barry just made about Avignon, it
could be a satire, it could also be a discussion back and forth, were good and
new arguments are being presented on each side, but put into a format easy to
read.

All in all, it should be something, that stands on its own, which doesn't refer
to other posts which you would have to follow.

There is something similar called NDhighlights
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NDhighlights/, a daily synopsis, drawing it's
material from different other Yahoo groups related to non-duality.

Anyway, such a synopsis, could clear the wheat from the chaff, but it would
need some work. It would be more readable, and could entice people to format
their posts better, and to write more content to make it into the Highlight
version. But it also would need people to edit it, best a variety of people
with different POVs. Its just an idea.

It's also really valuable for those that can't help but externalize everything

not receiving emails in my inbox again, I can deal. I vote to give it a month

Yep, my own abuse to all of you will be less. I agree with Auth, it will taper
down. It allowed us to get to know one another on topics and my own knee jerk
comments, well, I pulled a couple realizing my own overture haha.
One will be lucky to see me post 40 next week!
It is always fun to think one is raging against the machine

and also to keep certain people from having to only play bananagrams the rest
of their lives, well, I see a better future in this! LOL

There's just too much to ignore at the moment, it was easy when
you didn't have to scroll back. I'd hate to miss the one or two
things worth reading

I think we all did better with 50 per week to be honest.

Not too many "me too" posts per se, but quite a few
otherwise frivolous ones, some combative ones, as
well as some substantive discussions, IMHO.

Rick, I told Ravi at one point I thought this first
week was sort of like a bunch of malnourished people
suddenly having access to a banquet. We've overeaten
this first week, but it's already showing signs of
slowing down, and I suspect it won't be quite so
crazy for the three weeks coming up.
