I installed 5.0-r on opal, I did a clean install.
So, I have never used the procedure to do an upgrade. Opal is currently
running 5-current right now.
If you cvsuped tag=., you may have hit the upgrade to gcc-3.3.1, which was
posted as a HEADSUP to -current.

items to their refuse file. The refuse was causing poor versions of INDEX and
INDEX.db to be created.
For make index to work, it needs a full cvsup of ports-all. If you aren't

FWIW, I would worry about the improperly dismounted messages in dmesg more

and you have to fix things on your own. At this point, you need to understand

think the smallest machine that I used and didn't see a lot of swapping
was 128 MB. Swapping drops your effective memory speed from 8ns to 8
ms. That is hard to over come with any OS.

If you had done a "make fetch" from /usr/ports/games/kdegames3 if would
have put kdegames-3.1.tar.bz2 in your /usr/ports/distfiles/KDE
directory. If you have a partial for 3.1 in there, things work very
poorly.
Now, a portupgrade -uf kde3games should have done the samething as the
"make fetch". Going to freebsd.org, however, was very similar to
bitching about not finding a new BMW at your local Mercedes dealership.

ot;make index" produces some strange results and portsdb -uU produces a
different set of strange results. I use the -uU way to build my INDEX
and INDEX.db.

not a suggested one.

link /array/src as /usr/src, make knows it was really /array/src. You
would have to nfs_mount /array/src and link it to /usr/src. Why do that
when you could have created a partition on the array slice called src
and mounted it as /usr/src. Then,

hing is a little easier in Windows for me because pressing the left
