Well, if by investments you mean buying stocks, I'm not sure if that's
even in the game yet at all. Extractors and drones are great though, and you
don't need to be logued in for long to maintain them at all, just long
enough to pick up your extractors.

I'm probably not going to get to play much today either, but I've
placed another extractor for an ore I'll need for a mission, and deployed
the drone I bought yesterday, so at least useful things will be
happening while i wait, - lol!

for getting ore, you have three principle options. You can buy
either a mining drone or ore extractor.

Extracting will cost you some Ip to get the survey points and it takes a
litle upkeep, but you can get some good resources this way, even
with a low level, such as special ores from planets like Sassion or
Sephira which cell at a prophit, and are also needed on npc
missions.

Mining drones are good too if you can afford them, though obviously
they only mine bog standard ore.
Passenger transport is a fantastic way of making money if you don't mind
expending quite a lot of fuel, while the cabin is initially
expensive, you earn the money back in no time.

Also, taking combat missions and selling the loot is good too. if you
aime for ships like Darts and barbs, and avoid any ship class that isn't
a pirate you should be okay, and you can always run away if the
enemy is too strong! (though this will no longer be necessary once the
threat rating is labled), you can make betwene 5 and 20 K for a full
hold of loot, even just selling it to jo.

Lastly, chatting really! helps, it's great for filling small resource
contracts for missions, (you could possibly find someone to sell you the
ore), also people are very helpful, nd even occasionally buy things
at great prices.

just to let people know, I've tried mech combat and it's completely
accessible.

it's basically a page of text detailing what the mechs are doing which
auto

refreshes every ten seconds and posts new text like a mud.

If it refreshed a bit quicker it could be a pest, but ten seconds is
plenty of time to read the screen and see what's going on.
Your mech also pretty much works on automatic anyway, and all you need to
do

is recall it after it's been in a battle, - or in my case, pick up the
pieces and sell them for scrap, lol!

Just thought anyone who was interested in fighting mechs would appreciate
knowing that it's not going to cause your screen reader to explode.

Beware the grue!

Hi,

Do some of the npc missions to get your ip and levels up. Then trade
missions then focus on passenger missions. They are a real money spinner.

Re: [Audyssey] Heather Voice in Mota Beta 8

2009-10-21 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Shaun,
In this case it isn't a soundcard issue. I've noticed that the Heather
voice has a tendancy to pop and click sometimes when saving certain
words an frazes with Text Aloud. I've tried to cut down on the pops and
clicks as best I can, but a few still got through. If there was a better
option as far as a voice goes I would use it.
During one of the private betas I used Scansoft Karen, but I got
complaints that people couldn't understand the speech do to the
Australian accent. Since I don't really have a really high quality
American English voice besides Heather I'm sort of stuck with it.

shaun everiss wrote:

loads more although I suspect the card clicks.
I had a ac97 that clicked loads till I upgraded the drivers.

If you love the game, appreciate the work the dev's have done and! want more
fuel, buy an engine!

I admit I went the hole hog and got one of their starter packages, which
(betwene the engine and the premium account), gives me an insane amount of
fuel, but the engines very much range in price.

That's another nice thing about Ce, the extras you can pay real money for
cover a range of things and of prices, rather than their being a flat rate.

The dev's have also worked very hard to keep the game balanced, so there's
no buying an uba weapon or mega armour, the stuff you buy just gives
you more turns, ie more and faster generating fuel, or easy access to other
areas and things in the game like Mech packs, exploration kits and ships.

That also means it's not in danger of running into the sad pass that Sryth
did, where the Gm got so greedy for cash he started sticking in game content
just to sucker the players in to buying more and more tocans to get better
weaponry.

I'm always prepared to pay for a game if I like it, but when the game
is forcing me to pay more and more money in order to do things, that's the
point when things go wrong.

Ce is in no danger of doing that though, because of the heavy balance
issues, heck except for engines and premium accounts, everything on the
ce store may be bought or built in game anyway!

Re: [Audyssey] Ce details

2009-10-21 Thread dark
Talk to jonas hawk and do the training missions. They get you lots of stuff.
Then, go to new orion and do gunny's combat missions to get the basics of
combat.

After that it's really up to you. You can check out some other npcs for
missions, begain hawling, go in for mining and extractors, look at
getting a Mal store or a factory, lots of things!

here are some quick tips on the game activities I've tried:

1: As darren said, passenger cabins are a good investment, and can help you
make a lot of money quickly, though keep up with cargo transport as
well to run up faction xp and get to higher paying missions later on,
pluss, if your going halfway across the galaxy, it doesn't make sense to do
it with an empty hold.

2: talk to other players on chat. it's a great way to buy and sell
resources, and when an npc asks you for something random, it's the best way
of getting it.

3: extractors and mining drones take litle skill to use, but can fetch a
very good profet, particularly sinse they can work while your not on
the game. you've got structure points and drone control points, --- you
might as well use them.

4: For combat, offense is more important than defense. Get as big a gun for
your level as you can, and a combat drone as soon as your able. Combat
loot can fetch good prices and missions give xp (though you'll generally get
more selling the loot than being rewarded for the mission).

5: missiles are a waste of time Ip and money, don't bother with them!

6: the best places to buy new items are the player's markit, or player run
settlements where the npc stores have a discount on them.

Re: [Audyssey] Ce details

2009-10-21 Thread dark

There's a 1 month, six month, and 12 month.

It's engines that provide the real extra fuel boost though. I got a prem
acount, engine, fuel tank for storing extra fuel and a tickit to get more at
fuel deppo's all in one package.

i'd advise one of the pakages, but if your looking for the best fuel
boost at the cheapest cost, you're probably best missing the prem account
and buying an engine.

Prem accounts don't get huge amounts of bennifits quite yet, --- two units
extra fuel every 15 mins, 7 uses of the buyers markit a day instead of 4,
and the ability to engineer pods for your ships.

Engineering is good sinse it works like crafting but takes no Ip points, but
it's not essential to the game and you can stil buy pods on the player's
markit which other people have engineered (when I've built myself a weapons
pod, I'll probably build some more and sell them to raise some extra cash).

I admit I went the hole hog and got one of their starter packages, which
(betwene the engine and the premium account), gives me an insane amount of
fuel, but the engines very much range in price.

That's another nice thing about Ce, the extras you can pay real money for
cover a range of things and of prices, rather than their being a flat
rate.

The dev's have also worked very hard to keep the game balanced, so there's
no buying an uba weapon or mega armour, the stuff you buy just gives
you more turns, ie more and faster generating fuel, or easy access to
other

areas and things in the game like Mech packs, exploration kits and ships.

That also means it's not in danger of running into the sad pass that Sryth
did, where the Gm got so greedy for cash he started sticking in game

just to sucker the players in to buying more and more tocans to get better
weaponry.

I'm always prepared to pay for a game if I like it, but when the game
is forcing me to pay more and more money in order to do things, that's the
point when things go wrong.

Ce is in no danger of doing that though, because of the heavy balance

Hi Hayri,
That might be all well and good, but I'm already over my financial
budget on this project. I can't really afford to buy new sounds like
extra background ambience loops, music tracks, etc. Unless people are
going to begin donating some cash for the extra bells and wistles like
that 1.0 is going to be pretty bare bones, and based on what I can
financially afford to license from here on out. One way of cutting
financial corners is by not buying 10 or 12 different background
ambience loops, several different music tracks, and so on. I'm already
worried if I will brake even when this game starts selling let alone
putting myself in more financial debt by purchasing extra sounds and
music that are not really that necessary for completing the game. I'm
simply not going to add sounds and music to my credit card debt not
knowing how well this game will sell.

Go to tomar stubs and complete as far as you can go.
I'd recomend a gatlin rail rev2 you should have something not exeding 300 units
as your scanner sensor mk1 will need 200 units.
I suggest that you complete as far as you can.
If you finally get to level 16 like I am then you may want to ask again.
For the first few missions you are vertually helped.
it gets harder though.
Oh and for the first 10 levels you are conciddered new and so you are protected
from any attacks.
Every so often you will get random events, these will earn you xp, and maybe
credits, some of these events are going to be quite funny.
I suggest you get an irc client for the irc.core-exiles.com server as I may
have to do that in order to chat.

Re: [Audyssey] Idea to level 2 and above

2009-10-21 Thread Bryan Peterson
I'm sure it might be different if Thomas himself was the one supplying all
the music and sounds, when he could compose all the tunes and create all his
own sounds. But he isn't. And even if he was he's come far too far with this
particular project to want to make anymore major changes aside from the ones
that NEED to be made in order for the game to be ready for release. That's
why there's an option in the menu to turn off the music, so those that don't
like the music to be able to play without it. I myself never use it since I
like the music in MOTA.

I don't think it needs any more sounds or music.
I have turned off the music myself.

Hi Hayri,
That might be all well and good, but I'm already over my financial budget

begin donating some cash for the extra bells and wistles like that 1.0 is
going to be pretty bare bones, and based on what I can financially afford
to license from here on out. One way of cutting financial corners is by
not buying 10 or 12 different background ambience loops, several different
music tracks, and so on. I'm already worried if I will brake even when
this game starts selling let alone putting myself in more financial debt

for completing the game. I'm simply not going to add sounds and music to
my credit card debt not knowing how well this game will sell.

[Audyssey] Asking a technocal question.

2009-10-21 Thread The Kolesar Brothers
Hi to one and all, from Ron and Boz.
I just got off the phone with Jim kitchen and he advised me to put this
question out to the list.
So here goes.
I just picked up a USB headset mic combo so that I can test out Microsoft
Flight and the new its your plane programs.
For some reason it will not let me use the sapi five speach engine from
Jim's games.
I can hear mp3 files and what have you through the headset. But I just can't
hear anything like the menus and what have you the the sapi five engine
gives you while your playing Jim's games.
Would anyone on the list be able to help me fix this problem so that I can
play puppy one with the new headset mic combo set.
Thanks for the help.

a usb mic set will usually have an output device on it.
Since sapi is part of windows windows sounds would have to be routed to that
device I don't think sapi programs can just rout.
I suggest you play the games with a standard headphone plugged into the
headphone jack of your sound card.
its the easiest thing.

Re: [Audyssey] combat drones

2009-10-21 Thread dark

Hi Sean.

that's a dropdown list, so if Jaws does anything to interact with those
ytou'll need to do it.

the drone will be there automatically if it's in the drones area of your
ships' store, however note you need a drone skill of 30 and I believe a
captain level of 10, - though i could have that wrong, to use level 1
combat drones, if you've not got either of those they won't show up.

Lvl 2 drones take a skill of 40, and captain level of 18.

Hth.
