[Audyssey] sod and vertual 3d
Hi. today as an experiment I tried playing v3d. in the first 2 levels it was ok because there is nothing much to do these are straight levels. However everything was slightly off centre, it was not much but enough to confuse and annoy me when picking up objects and opening doors. Where v3d came into play was when I was shooting an enemy I could tell what I was hitting. same with grenades but I don't think I could play a game like that, they have probably improved things since direct sound. I had to go to stereo sound. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. If we're talking fighting from a distance I'd put my money on either an enchanted bow, a crossbow a javelin/lance or posibly even shurakin, something small that could be obtained in plenty and thrown with a high degree of speed. Granted Shurakin are probably so small that they probably wouldn't be able to do much more than irritate a dragon, sort of like a human being bitten by a fly or a mosquito. Not particularly harmful unless of course you happened to have an allergy. I imagine throwing a Shurakin into a dragon's eye would be no more deadly to it than a bug bite generally would be to us. Neither can you just take a swing at its hide with a sword, enchanted or not, because its body is covered in scales. However, like a dragon a Hydra has one spot that is pretty vulnerable if you can get to it. That's all I'm going to say. P.S. Have you seen the Bon Jovi DLC thread on the rock band forums? that's a great example of how trying to please everyone is impossible. to make a long story short, basically people now have to repurchase any future DLC songs that contains rock band 3 features like keyboard and harmonies. reason being, it's impossible to upgrade the tracks since hmx never created stems for them, which means a whole separate version of the song has to be made. that's the really short version. there are a bunch of other factors involved as well like recharting song for consistency etc. There's this massive debate... well mostly flame wars, about it, and you have people on both sides throwing insults back and forth and making a nuisance of themselves. - Original Message - From: "Clement Chou" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 8:24 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released! Here here. Developers should listen to fans to a certain extent is what I think. For minor things like little gameplay tweeks, small-scale feature suggestions... but on the larger scale like difficulty, the developer should totally do things his own way. I think this is why a lot of mainstream devs generally don't talk to fans in public... they just scan forums and see what people say and put it in the suggestion box. But I agree. Mota should be done the way you want it to be, and the rest of us can either suck it up or find another game. I personally love everything about Mota, difficulty included even if it means dying over and over again on high levels of difficulty. But what good game doesn't cost you time and experience? If capcom were to listen to everything their fans said about how Street Fighter should be, I'd hate to see the mess that SF would become... *cringes* especially about how all the noobs like to whine about how they lose befcause such a player keeps comboing them... and these are the same people who use the same bloody tactics over and over again and just don't want to learn the deeper side of things. Simply put, it is impossible to please everybody. We all have different skills, different ideas what is the ideal game, whatever and trying to implement all of them is a fool's task. It can't be done. However, part of the problem here is that we've become something of an entitlement society. We think it is our right to have this or that handed to us, or that a developer should do this or that because it is suppose to be for the good of everybody. If a game is too hard then the developer should make it easier so the less skilled can play it too. If someone can't figure out a trap or puzzle then the traps and puzzles should be made easier to guess etc. On the other hand, you have those who say that is too easy and the game should be harder, more difficult traps/puzzles, and so on. Who is right and who is wrong here? As the developer the decision what to do about it is sully on me. Part of the solution is by tuning out the special interest groups and making decisions on what I personally feel is right. I haven't done enough of that, and I'm beginning to see the only way this project will ever get done and be done in a timely fashion is to do it my way. Special interest groups can take a hike. As you already know a Hydra can't be defeated by lopping off its heads without using a torch to burn the necks shut. Of course, you can't do that underwater and without an extra person to help. Neither can you just take a swing at its hide with a sword, enchanted or not, because its body is covered in scales. However, like a dragon a Hydra has one spot that is pretty vulnerable if you can get to it. That's all I'm going to say. P.S. I really doubt if that would work. You are in water. That would put your fireball out, don't you think? Sort of like trying to use a torch in water. That’s all I’m going to say. P.S. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released!
Replay value. I think, "Dang! I blew it! Better try again! Sheesh, I almost beat it! I'm getting there, finally! Ah, success on the easy difficulty! Let's move on to the next level! More frustrating game play, but fun, too! I'll beat it one of these days, then go on to the next level." I never expect to beat a game right away. If I do, that level is too easy for me, and that's what the higher levels are for. Also, once I have mastered the easy difficulties and I'm just in the mood to beat the heck out of a game, I'll play them on the easy levels just to win. If I want a challenge, I'll go higher. --- Shepherds are the best beasts! - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 1:38 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released! Re: [Audyssey] using the sword in mota beta14
Hi. I have to assume the people have deleted the files they linked you to, or gave you invalid links. Files placed in dropbox do not expire as they do with the free sendspace accounts. Also there isn't a download cap. I've placed free games in my public dropbox folder for people who couldn't find them, and as far as I know it's worked great. I've used both sendspace and dropbox, and to hear me tell it, I definitely favor dropbox or dorpbox as I call it. I think sendspace probably allows for faster upload speeds. Back on topic a little, did you notice that in mota beta 16, when you select a whip it repeats itself very quickly until you release the number you pressed to select your weapon? And also that weapons seem to wait for the spacebar to be released rather than pressed down? Oh and did you make the easily difficulty more difficult? *grin*. I used to make it to level 2 when I used beta 15, but in this one I die before I even get anywhere close to the second boss. Maybe I'm having a bad time of it. *lol*. -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Thomas Ward Sent: Friday, November 05, 2010 6:28 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] using the sword in mota beta14 Hi Hayden, Well, as a big Sendspace user with a Max account I can give you lots of reasons why Dropbox is, well, not that good. For one thing with a Sendspace Max account you can download up to 8 GB per day, can store 100 GB of files on your account, use of the Sendspace Wizard, etc. Dropbox doesn't offerly nearly that much. I can't tell you how many times someone has posted a podcast or something to Dropbox, and when I go to download it Dropbox says the download limit has expired or the file is no longer available. Also copying text is so much easier then mush or any other client. Besides, if you are a script developer etc, or you wish to use other script libraries, you will never be able to. Vipmud uses it's own scripting language, while mushclient has support for sql, sockets for network communication, and so on. VipMud isn't a bad client, but it lacks a lot of functionality and it's not well known, so no one's going to develop things for it. There are better clients which are free out there. On 11/8/10, dark wrote: It's also worth noting that vip mud really doesn't lose many features from the free version at all. The program auto disconnects after an hour (but you can reconnect in seconds), You lose the ability for msp support, but not for scripted sound packs, and some of the debug options, but that's really it. You can also use the free version as long as you wish. While I bought vip mud to support gma games, I will admit that accept for materiamagica which has a very good msp soundpack, I haven't noticed too much difference betwene the free and commercial versions, (and sinse I uninstalled and reinstalled it, I lost my 30 day trial period so did spend time with the free version). [Audyssey] New game, towers of war
Hi. people already on the audiogames.net forums or who read the site news will know about this, but for everyone else I thought an announcement was in order. just over a week ago, a chap by the name of Jeremy Kaldovski turned up on the forum with the name Aprone. He was interested in stratogy games so we filled him in about sound rts, time of conflict etc. He expressed the desire to make a game for the Audio games community, we said "nice idea" thinking that perhaps we'd see something in a few months. Within 24 hours it'd appeared! I mean that, 24! hours! The game, now called towers of war, is the first ever audio tower defense game, this basically is a popular genre of graphical stratogy games where a number of monsters walk down a path from one end to the other, and the player must strategically build towers which shoot at the monsters to defeat them. The stratogy comes from where you build the towers, what towers you build, and how you upgrade them, sinse you've only got limited money. Within a week, the game now has several game modes, 20 levels, 4 maps (with a map editer in developement), and 6 different types of tower with new ones on the way. It also has audio grid review commands and various ways to track battles, pluss some high contrast graphics for those who would find them useful. Beta are literally being posted each night, each with more bug squashing and more features, so it's highly recommended to try the game. Just read http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=4327 for full description and links, including a link to a walkthru. It's also recommended to check the first post, sinse Aprone is updating it with a change logue and new feature list, as well as updated links to new betas. I can highly recommend this game, and in fact am really looking forward to seeing what gets added next. I think developement has been the fastest I've ever seen! considdering even the idea for an audio tower defense game wasn't around a fortnight ago. Beware the Grue! That would agree with the Harry Potter books as well since Sirius tells Harry that dragons are most vulnerable in the eyes. That would seem to hint at a javelin or spear or maybe even a dirk, something that would let you attack from further away. Granted if it was a dirk you'd probably need to have several on hand since if the first blow wasn't fatal you'd need to land several more. And now I'm suddenly reminded of the Dragonlance novels since the Dragonlance was probably one of the only weapons, and I don't remember many others, with any hope of penetrating a dragon's scales. Granted if you were fighting a real dragon keeping your distance wouldn't be a complete protection since they can breathe fire and at quite a distance if my memory serves. You could avoid that if you were quick enough though I suppose. I think this is why a lot of mainstream devs generally don't talk to fans in public... they just scan forums and see what people say and put it in the suggestion box. But I agree. Mota should be done the way you want it to be, and the rest of us can either suck it up or find another game. The hardest level is for the more experienced gamers, while the easiest is for the less experienced, and the normal is for the approximate average gamers. I'm not a game producer, but I would think that you have an outline as to how the game should work, and you probably try to follow that outline, get the game to sort of work along that line, then modify it as needed until it is ready for the market. If suggestions are made by private or public testers, I would evaluate them. Are they doable? Do they fit into my game plan? Do they enhance?, or detract from the game. It would be up to you as to whether you ask gamers for their input about a suggestion once you have decided on it's feasibility. You probably already know this, but those are my 2 cents worth. The decision on whether or not to implement requested features is, in the end, yours. Thanks for all the time and effort you're putting into this long awaited project. What I consider to be intermediate difficulty could be hard for someone else. What I consider hard could be someone else's advanced. It's all opinion, and everyone has a differing one where game difficulty concerned. Easy could be easy for some and hard for others, so like Tom says, you can't please everybody. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] down the wrong track? - Re: MOTA Beta 16 Released!
You're not going to say? Good! The body is covered with scales? Hmm. Hi, Sorry, to say you guys are barking up the wrong tree. There is something else in the game you have to find, and I'm not going to tell you what it is. That’s all I’m going to say. P.S. The Greeks were a master of this weapon, and used it ffar more than swords, daggers, and other weapons. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released!
In part, isn't that where the levels of difficulty come into play? Your willingness to please customers is very admirable, and I'll bet that most of the gamers are going to enjoy the finished product. Heck! Look at how we're already enjoying what we have, and that's only a partial beta! --- Shepherds are the best beasts! - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 7:01 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released! Hi Sarah. I'm very glad the file worked and you were able to register it. However, I am a litle bothered that Maciej and the other Klango devs aren't doing anything about making the game accessible to new players, imho it'd be a great one to have in the Klango player games area along side mole no more. As it is only people who bought the game originally will have reg codes for it, and if no more are forthcoming, that'll practically make the game inaccessible. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released!
Hi, Sorry, to say you guys are barking up the wrong tree. There is something else in the game you have to find, and I'm not going to tell you what it is. That’s all I’m going to say. P.S. sound roots, this came from how the microsoft voices pronounce it. Anyway this was done with sound rts 1.1 alpha 4 in exactly a half, and 1.1 alpha 5 in, yet again, another half. This is a playthrough of all the tutorial chapters, and there are 4 of them, chapt. 4 added in the new 1.1 version. Things you may expect are, some tips, some interruptions, or even some slow motion... This time I zipped it up and separated each map into a separate mp3 file as I was uploading this to a twitter audio service. I've also included a playlist if you want to listen to all of them in 1 go, which shouldn't take long. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released!
Hi, Right. Although, being underwater helps, because Angela will have to hold her breath while underwater. The Hydra's breath was only faytal if you were unfortunate enough to breath it in. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 16 Released!
I hate to be rude but some people need to just stuff it. It's hardly as though Thomas has been putting a gun to the entire community's head and forcing them to play his game. I haven't tried MOTA on the higher difficulties but the beginner level is just about right as far as I'm concerned, easy but at the same time not TOO easy. I'll worry about the higher levels after I beat the game a few times on Beginner. That is very true. But at the same time, I'm starting to wonder... using that sword to defeat the hydra.. that sounds a bit too easy to me. Maybe it's all the video game experience... but something tells me it isn't going to be as easy as it looks. At 06:11 PM 09/11/2010, you wrote: Well it makes the most sense considering the situation. I'll go with the sword seems that seems to be the most logical way to lop off heads. But if the myths are true, it'll take more than some fancy swinging to do that job, unless part of the enchantment to the sword is no recovery of the wound dealt by the blade. Um... an enchanted torch? lol. Kidding. I'm going to pin my bet on the enchanted sword... or another similar weapon found later on the game. That is in order to fight and kill it you have to be swimming under water. How many torches work under water?
