There are also known issues with spdif ports and Bluray, specifically
getting any tru-hd or dts-hd decoded.
Spdif Is not considered a protected channel for drm and thus the pc
might end up downgrading the signal.

FLAC is a lossless codec and from my personal testing in my HT (your results
may vary) it sounded better than normal DD or DTS and almost as good as
Tru-HD.
The real bonus is that it drops the filesize by several hundred MB at least,
sometimes more.

bad RAM.

Yep. iTunes is good with mp3s and most other non-DRM music formats (not
sure about FLAC). But it won't work with DRM'd wma files.

AFAIK from my own experience most consumer hard drives are about the same
these days. Most people find a brand that works for them and stick with it
until it pisses them off and then they move on. About the only thing to
differentiate them is the length of warranty.

with PCI-express or even dual PCI-express so instead of
tossing in 2 video cards you can do a video card and a RAID card.
My HTPC uses an AMD 780G motherboard with on-board video and my Areca 1220
RAID Card sits in the PCI-Express slot. Works beautifully.

I upgraded a couple months ago to a Q6600 and an Abit IX38 Quad GT mobo and
I'm very happy. I had the whole struggle between quad and dual core and
opted for the quad. The motheboard is one of the most stable ones I have
ever had.
Unlike the two 780G mobos I've had in my HTPC, both of which
