As a result, RSUmmyy was developed in order to let customer select as few PTFs as possible, but as many PTFs as needed. Re: HSM Journal dataset is almost full
From: Uriel Carrasquilla uriel.carrasqui...@mail.mcgill.ca When we shutdown HSM in all of our LPARs without setting them in the EMERGENCY mode, we never had any problems with HSM re-starting. Under chapter 14 DFSMShsm Libraries and Procedure of the DFSMShsm Implementation and Cust. Guide. there are a couple of sentences which confirm what you claim: Using the RESTART Keyword to Automatically Restart DFSMShsm after an Abnormal End: If you are running DFSMShsm in an MVS/ESA environment, you can use the RESTART keyword in the DFSMShsm startup procedure to automatically restart DFSMShsm after an abnormal termination. When you specify the RESTART keyword in the DFSMShsm start procedure, no operator intervention is required to automatically restart DFSMShsm. The protocol for the RESTART keyword is: RESTART=(A,B), where A is required and is the name of the DFSMShsm procedure to be started, and B is optional and specifies any additional parameters to be passed to the procedure. Figure 88 on page 333 is an example of the DFSMShsm startup procedure. Notice that the EMERG keyword NO allows all DFSMShsm functions and that the RESTART keyword restarts DFSMShsm automatically. However, when DFSMShsm is restarted the status of the EMERGENCY keyword in the restarted procedure is YES. When EMERG=YES, DFSMShsm does not allow any functions to start. Looks like I learned something new. Have a look at RESTART keyword in your procedure. What do you mean when you say hsm is defined under ARM? ARM is the Automatic Restart Manager, which allows you to define Started Tasks or Address Spaces which need to be restarted in case they are down (very short definition). Likewise, if you want to check if a dataset is empty, IDCAMS is your friend: REPRO IDS('A.B.C') OFILE(DD1) COUNT(1) If A.B.C is empty, you receive a rc=4. Re: Multople zone in SMPE
Can anybody help me, how to setup multiple zone to follow above concept. Once I receive a new z/OS with the ServerPac or SystemPac, I use this steps to clone the delivered target zone: //COPYSMP EXEC PGM=ADRDSSU //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSIN DD * COPY DATASET( - INCLUDE( - SMPE11.tgtzone_name.*, - ))- RENUNC(- (SMPE11.tgtzone.*,SMPE11.cloned_tgtzone.*) - )- OUTDYNAM(myvol) - TOL(ENQF) CATALOG Above step clones the target zone's CSI, along with its SMPxTS. The datasets' 2nd qualifier equals to the tgtzone or cloned_tgtzone names. //ADDZINDX EXEC PGM=GIMSMP //SMPCSI DD DISP=SHR,DSN=my.GLOBAL.CSI //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SMPLOG DD DUMMY //SMPOUT DD SYSOUT=* //SMPCNTL DD * SET BDY(GLOBAL) . ZREN(tgtzone) TO(cloned_tgtzone) NEWDATASET(SMPE11.cloned_tgtzone.CSI). SET BDY(cloned_tgtzone) . ZEDIT DDDEF . CHANGE VOLUME(sysres,cloned_sysres) . ENDZEDIT . UCLIN. REP DDDEF(SMPLTS) DA(SMPE11.cloned_tgtzone.SMPLTS) . REP DDDEF(SMPMTS) DA(SMPE11.cloned_tgtzone.SMPMTS) . REP DDDEF(SMPSCDS) DA(SMPE11.cloned_tgtzone.SMPSCDS). REP DDDEF(SMPSTS) DA(SMPE11.cloned_tgtzone.SMPSTS) . ENDUCL. The above step adds the cloned_tgtzone' to the GLOBAL zone index, changes the sysres to every DDDEFs belonging to cloned_tgtzone, and changes the dataset names of allSMPxTS accordingly. I don't clone the DLIB zone, nor the DLIB volumes, since I leave one DLIB zone/volume(s) for x Target zones/volume(s) (where 'x' can be 2, 3, or 4) HTH Walter Marguccio z/OS Systems Programmer BELENUS LOB Informatic GmbH Munich - Germany -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@bama.ua.edu with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

Re: EZBTIINI dynamically loaded ?
thanks very much for taking the time to answer my question. Chris, thanks very much for taking the time to answer my question. The Share presentation 6865, (Boston, 2010) from A.Christensen provide the explanation which I expected to find in the Communication Server bookshelf at z/OS 1.11 level. Or in the z/OS 1.11 migration guide, since loading EZBTIINI into ECSA using dynamic LPA functions is new since z/OS 1.11, and wasn't there at z/OS 1.9 level. I used Google, but wasn't smart enough to look at page 2, where the link to Christensen's presentation was. I apologise for this. I pay always attention at what the HealthChecker tells me, especially when I IPL a new z/OS level. In this case, I wanted to know whether the alarm caused by msg CSVH1001E for Dynamic LPA changes was justified or not. Now I know it was not, because this is the way TCP/IP at 1.11 level works. after IPLing a z/OS 1.11, HealthCheck noticed that: C Hello list, after IPLing a z/OS 1.11, HealthCheck noticed that: CSVH1001E EDLPA changed by 7725056 bytes. This exceeds the limit. Looking at the LPA modules and where they are loaded to, I spotted EZBTIINI as being dynamically loaded, with a size of roughly 6A3000. D PROG,LPA,MODNAME=EZBTIINI confirmed that the LMOD has been (D)ynamically loaded (from TCP/IP, I presume) and (P)age fixed. I have two questions to the list: 1) have you get the same HealthCheck exception on your z/OS 1.11 ? 2) is this a WAD on Comm. Server IP at z/OS 1.11 level ? I RTFM but found nothing. Re: System symbols in batch jobs
I thought I'd share it for those interested parties who have NetView. I use more or less the same principle to accomplish the same goal. I wrote a simple REXX which NetView kicks off every night at 00:00, writing a member named VARS into one of the JES-knownlibrary named SYS1.SYSNAME.PROCLIB: //* -- Variables set on 24 Feb 2011 // SET SYSNAME=PROD // SET ID=PR // SET IPLVOL=Z19R1B //* // SET DD=24 // SET MM=02 // SET YY=11 // SET DAY=THU // SET MONTH=FEB // SET YEAR=2011 //* // SET DOW=4 Day Of Week // SET JD=11055 Julian Date // SET PFX=J Dataset prefix //* --- at 00:00:00 The REXX makes available both static and dynamic system symbols. Whoever wants to exploit them, must add the INCLUDE stmt in their JCL, as Alan mentioned. It's not pretty but it can be helpful to circumvent that annoying restriction. Maybe is not pretty, but it is effective. Unfortunately it doesn't solve the problem with variables not recognized in SYSIN-type input datasets. For such cases, I use PGM=EZACFSM1. you are c I was able to delete the old linklib once I cycled LLA. you are correct, and I wrote something wrong: I doubt you can delete old.linklib which belongs to LNKLST00. If neither LLA nor XCFAS have their hands on old.linklib, you can delete the dataset. However, I seem to remember that either LLA or XCFAS are not really happy to see old.linklib being deleted under their nose. Did you issue SETPROG LNKLST,ALLOCATE before starting LLA ? Re: LINKLIB in use
If neither LLA nor XCFAS have their hands on old.linklib, you can delete the dataset. No. You can do a SETPROG LNKLST,UNALLOCATE to free the ENQ that XCFAS has and you can either stop LLA or otherwise get it to release the old.linklib data set. That does *NOT* mean that it is save to delete the data set. That does nothing to remove it from use as a LNKLST data set. I agree 100%. I didn't say it is safe, I only said you can delete it, because neither LLA not XCFAS use/ENQue it. In order to make it inactive as a LNKLST data set, a new LNKLST set must be activated and all running address spaces that started before activating the new LNKLST set must be told to use the new LNKLST set using LNKLST UPDATE. This is somewhat dangerous and should only be done if you are prepared to IPL. I agree 100%. So If I were the OP, I would activate a new LNKLST01 (as he did) and leave old.linklib where it is. Re: LINKLIB in use
I then went to delete the old dataset, but it still says Dataset In Use. What did I miss? the dataset could be still in use by LLA and/or XCFAS. However, even if you purge LLA and issue SETPROG LNKLST,UNALLOCATE (freeing the dataset from the XCFAS), I don't think you can delete your old.linklib. I might be wrong, but IIRC, z/OS keeps somewhere (storage ? control block ?) the list of datasets defined in LNKLST set(s). Even if you activate LNKLST01, I doubt you can delete old.linklib which belongs to LNKLST00. The only way to delete old.linklib is to IPL. Re: symbolic date parameter (EZACFSM1)
Have you considered the system symbol interpreter called EZACFSM1? I checked to make sure it was available in Comm Server 1.7. This is what your sample job will turn into: I've followed the old, frequent thread about variables in JCL for ages, and it never occurred to me that this program was able to did the trick. For trivial things like create a SYSIN-type dataset for FTP or IDCAMS, where date and time within a dataset name is required, EZACFSM1is perfect, instead of creating, say, an ad-hoc REXX which does the same. However, it doesn't look to me as the solution IBM recommends to solve the 'system variable in jcl' issue, otherwise the use and scope of this pgm would have been more widely published, and not only on a single, spare page in the z/OS x.yy IP Configuration Guide. So my question(s) to this forum are what other mates sysprog do with this program. Do you use it ? Did you widespread the use to programmers or other staff who use jcl ? Do you see any remarkable drawbacks which I don't see ? Are there any statements of direction from IBM ? TIA. I really have no idea how expensive CA-MIM is, but if performance is not acceptable, you may want to consider it. No, MIM is not an option. With 4 systems in your ring, you are probably already pushing the limits. That was my fear. I recall (years ago, before XCF) a client of mine adding a 3rd system to a GRS ring and the CA-1 scratch runs doubled in wall clock time due to catalog performance. We have GRS via XCF. Catalogs traffic is what I fear the most. I'll see what the GRS says, before and after. Thanks! Last Sunday we had to swap our network switch with a new one, and after we connected the cables coming from all OSAs to the new switch, we were able to ping/telnet to the OSCs (I had back MCS consoles and TSO via non-SNA) but we weren't be able to ping/telnet to the OSDs anymore. Issuing D TCPIP,,N,DEV from the console showed all 4 devices in ACTIVE status. Issuing a TSO ping from one LPAR to all others was successful, too. D NET,TRL,TRLE=trle_name for our TRLEs showed ACTIVE as well. Eventually we had to shutdown all 4 LPARs, configuring all 4 OSAs OSD off from the Service Element, put the same cards in Service Mode, put everything back on line, IPL and voila', the OSAs OSD were reachable again. I can't believe that a sophisticated hw like the z10 and its OSA-Express cards need such a reset action after a switch has been swapped. Re: Receive e-mails on z/OS
I haven't tried this, but theore From: et...@tulsagrammer.com I haven't tried this, but theoretically you should be able to run sendmail and a custom Perl script as a local delivery agent to accomplish this function. It looks like the requirements for this specific case are quite trivial. E-mails sent to z/OS do *not* contain any attachment, the needed info are contained in the body of the message. Considering the above, I will keep going with SMTP and TSO RECEIVE. However, since other batch jobs for other customers are fed by e-mail attachments, I'll sooner or later investigate other options to accomplish this. Receive e-mails on z/OS
many of our batch jobs take their input from data sent us Hello list, many of our batch jobs take their input from data sent us by means of e-mail attachments. Attachments are manually stored on PCs, uploaded to z/OS, then batch starts. This is obviously a manual and error prone process. Therefore I ve been asked to see if it's possible to setup z/OS in order to receive and handle e-mails and their attachments which will eventually feed our batch. Having already SMTP for outbound e-mails, I started from it and, thanks to Steve Comstock's SMTP saga on ibm-main, I've been able to set it up to receive e-mails. But the TSO RECEIVE seems not to be able to handle attachments, unless I missed something. Before reading the many publication on this matter, I would like to ask what would you recommend for this goal. SMTP or sendmail ? Any other valid ISV alternatives ? Added CF LPAR and connected it using just-added ICP channels to existing OS LPAR (X). I used candidate LPAR (named '*'). Question: can I activate the changes dynamically ?
