Hi, I can confirm that the "\par" at the end of the first paragraph on
the cell is the one that makes it to be single spaced. If I put both
of them together, and manually include it via ERT, the same behavior
appears: the first part or paragraph is single spaced, while the
second doesn't. Including a second one at the end of the second
pragraph makes both of them to be single spaced. Is this a bug? Am I
doing something "bad"?

like to be singlespaced and separated by a "Defalut Skip" vertical
space. The latex code that appears on the "Latex Source" window looks
like this:

I deliberately left the first part of the cell by default (except the
font size), while the second part has the "SingleSpace" tag. The

Nope Manolo, I'm on Win 7... Any idea? At least on how to get out of this problem with any other font? I tried changing the class file using another monospaced font, but it seems the problem comes from the rescaling of the font to the size desired. Removing this rescaling factor (.85) or setting it to one generates another type of error. Problem with Nick Mariette's thesis style
Dear all, while compiling the sample document for Nick Mariette's thesis style, I receive the following error at the end of the compilation process: !pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file fvmro8r): Font fvmro8r at 408 not found The thing is this font, which seemly belong to Bera, doesn't appear anywhere in the installation files. Dear all, I have been able to install the minionpro font on my MikTeX
2.8 installation. I could render text documents, but while trying to
render my thesis (huge, lots of math, figures, tables, etc.) I
received the following errors:

I have created a sample document with math included and tgpagella
doesn't render math environments. At the end, I had to use:
\usepackage{mathpazo,tgpagella}
In order to have have mathpazo characters in math environments.
Tgpagella seems to be narrower, but not by much. It saves some space
but this is far from dramatic.

I'm writing mine as we speak. I have chosen memoir and never turned back. Basic stuff is basic, works perfectly with LyX and its layout is very nice. A big library on chapter title styles is a plus. I have tried Koma before, but never liked it completely. R is a must for nice plots, as well as Inkscape for fingerpainting. Biblatex is another nice addition. I didn't know about "cmap". I believe this should be one of the packages loaded by default. Another one should be "dcolumn", which provides decimal point alignment for columns of entries in a tabular. Dear all, I have been using LyX for quite a while with a US-International layout. Just today I saw that if I use quotation marks they are drawn as '' instead of opening and closing quotation marks. Re: Converting Lyx doc to word
I recently tried to convert a 30-page document under Windows 7. After many, many tries, including the use of http://www.pdftoword.com/ , I finally installed a Debian VirtualBox, installed LyX/LaTeX, shared a folder between Debian and Windows 7, converted the document to HTML in Debian, opened it with OpenOffice in Windows 7 and exported to Word. "Some" finger paint for styles, tables, figures, footnotes and references and voila. Dear all, is there a way in which "\utilde" from the package "undertilde" can be rendered on screen in a equation environment? Nothing really. This is LaTeX doing it's job. When there is extra space on a page, LaTeX expands the space between paragraphs to fill it. environments are not numbered, thus a cross reference is not possible.

Sorry to tell you, but this feature has been already included in 2.0.
Nontheless, as I have said, it is a feature prominently directed to
non native English speakers, as we tend to make considerably more
spelling mistakes. Don't worry, you can deactivate it.

Yup, this is what I think, but when you have several coworkers working
on collaborative papers in several different LaTeX classes, they
finally have the last laugh. This is why a layout editor would do
wonders to convert our main target, people that already uses LaTeX
directly who wants to speed up their writing and track changes on the
document.

The only feature I miss is a layout editor. I don't know how easy would it be to program one, but that would be one good addition. The second one I miss, mostly because I'm not a native English speaker, is online spell checking, but that is coming in 2.0. Again, I have to give my most sincere thanks to all developers. Yeah Alex, you are right. What I wanted to say is that math macros are not recognized and equations give errors as a consequence. Images for equations are rendered but they are not included in the resulting HTML document. This, at least, is what I would like to see. Well, this and the possibility of sending notes to the end of the document. BTW, most documents I need to convert have this format, notes to the end. In economics is quite common. A float leaves to LaTeX the decision of where to put the image. This is not a trivial decision and in most cases, LaTeX does a better job than you at balancing text distribution when an image is inserted. I'm back at home so let's see the procedure I used to install CocoAspell: 1- Removed aspell via: make remove (I installed it with macports, then removed it. Afterwards I installed the version working in my computer compiling from source.) 2- Downloaded and installed CocoAspell. 3- Test it with English. It worked perfectly. 4- Downloaded and uncompressed the Spanish dictionary. 5- Copied dictionary files to: /Application Support/cocoAspell/aspell6-en-6.0-0 6- Enabled the Spanish dictionary through the cocoAspell preference pane. 7- Test it with Lyx and... still the same behavior, no accented words are recognized. I have checked and there are two dictionaries available for download: aspell-es-0.50-2.tar.bz2 aspell6-es-1.9a-1.tar.bz2 The second one is the one I have installed. In french there is only one dictionary: aspell-fr-0.50-3.tar.bz2 I cannot find, as you have said, one with and one without accents. I have tried several combinations trying to make CocoAspell work with the Spanish dictionarie, but nothing seems to work. My problem is that accented words are not recognized. I think I'll try again. Dear Marshall, I tried every possible trick with Aspell and CocoAspell, to no avail. The work, but it's like the dictionary is empty. A very bad experience. There are not enough testers and developers using MacOS X and I think we lag behind in usability. Right now I don't have enough time, But I hope this changes my mid year. It depends on the bibtex style you're using. Some of them present the entries according to their appearance order in the paper. Some of them order them alphabetically. You just have to try until you find the one you need. After many trials with Lyx, a friend and I decided to do it directly
in LaTeX in the preamble:

\marginsize{4.5cm}{3cm}{3cm}{3cm}
I don't have any idea as why Lyx is not precise when margins are
changed. Printed region in an even page should be overlapped with that
of an odd page. We had to do it with the code above. Maybe somebody
has a technical answer on this problem. Until then, you can use this
snippet of code.

Thanks Mariano. Everything seems to be correctly configured. As I wrote in my first email, I have been using aspell in Lyx under XP (which seems to be your case) without a problem. The thing is that under OS X it doesn't work as required. The only thing different in my Lyx configuration is that the default language is Spanish instead of English. Dear all, I have installed either Aspell alone or cocoAspell for Mac OS X using the Spanish dictionary and something weird is happening: no accented word is recognized. No matter the method for installation (port, cocoAspell installer, or compilation from source) seems to work. Words that are not accented are recognized, but accented words don't. Has anybody seen this behavior? Has anybody that had this problem found a solution? I have used Aspell's spanish dictionary with Lyx in both Linux and Windows without a problem. Enrico, you just have to install the class as with any latex class. Afterwards, reconfigure LyX (Tools -> Reconfigure), restart Lyx, create a new document and change the document class (Document -> Settings -> Document Class) to the required "article(Springer)" or "article(svjour)" class. Off-topic biblatex question
Dear all, I have been using biblatex for my bibliography for the last year. Now, for a paper, I need to use some references that I have in this bibliography but a problem arises. In some papers that have colons in the title, I had to substitute them for "\addcolon\addspace" and when I try to use these records with bibtex an error is presented. I would like to be able to define, in the preamble of my lyx document, both "\addcolon" and "\addspace" to do exactly what they say, so I don't have to go back and do a search and replace for them. Document with PDFs
Dear all, I have a document with some images in PDF format. I have prepared the images in Inkscape (Windows XP). The document is being compiled in LyX 1.6.5 (Leopard). When the document is compiled the following message is presented: basic_filebuf::_M_convert_to_external conversion error I tried compiling the document in LaTeX directly and it worked perfectly. Dear Richard, remember to always include the list on your replies. I thought you were on Windows as you spoke of MikTeX. But no problem. First of all, generate the PDF of your document and check what LaTeX says on the hyphenation patterns being used. You can check that in LyX in "Document->Latex Log". There you will see a message at the beggining saying: Babel and hyphenation patterns for english... Those are the languages being used by Babel. If you found "Italian", then LaTeX is using Italian and I don't know what the problem is. If you cannot find it, the it means you have to install th package "texlive-lang-italian", which loads the Italian hyphenation pattern. Thanks Dave. I have just checked the "memoir" class manual and have
found this fact. As I have no use for a bigger outer margin, but I'll
do for an inner one (bindings), I have added the "anysize" package to
the preamble:

Dear all, I am using LyX with a book (Memoir) class to write my thesis. I have seen that though the page number is on the right (left) side of odd (even) pages, the inner margin (the biggest one) is also to the right (left) side of odd (even) pages. So, the page number is always on the same side of the biggest margin, which is wrong as they should be on opposite sides. I haven't touched the way LyX/LaTeX handles this issue, so I would like to know why the standard way of handling it is erroneous, at least to my knowledge. I like to put my bibliographies in a folder without spaces in the path. BTW,
puting the bib file in the same folder as the document doesn't work as you
still have to define the absolute path to it.

PDF preview on Windows
Dear all, I have a problem when Lyx tries to render a preview of a PDF figure. Some of my figures it handles well and the preview is shown. I have included some new plots made with R using either "pdf" of "cairo_pdf" and even if the document compiles perfectly, the preview shows "Error converting to loadable format", I'm on Windows XP using Lyx 1.6.3. Up to this date there is no fix for the problem. The problem can be reduced by turning off the autosaving feature. Also the problem is not real, but perceived by the OS as such. You just have to click on ignore and keep on working. Section numbering
Dear all, I'm writing a memoir(book) document in Lyx. I used the
numbering & TOC setup to use numbering until subsubsection. When I
generated the PDF it didn't apper. I then included in the preamble:
\setsecnumdepth{all}
\maxsecnumdepth{all}
>From that moment numbering and inclusion in the TOC was perfect. Is
this a bug? If so, is it a known one?

Ok, if it's good for you. Me? I just open the PDFs, read them and, at most, I print them. No more than that. That's why I use SumatraPDF, which, BTW, allows me to update PDFs from Lyx. Last time I check Acrobat didn't allow you to do it, but it's really some time since I stopped using it. So, at least for me, it has been a solution. Re: Using handwriting fonts
In the preamble add the following lines:
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{la}
I think that would be enough. You won't see on screen, but the pdf
should be generated with this font.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but there is not such thing as Lyx packages. All of them are Latex packages. So unfortunately you need to, at least, know how to install and use a package in LaTeX, as there is no easy way to interface a LaTeX package with Lyx. Installation depends on your OS and LaTeX distribution. Usage is OS independent.
