Last year I had a used tranny installed in my 1980 300SD. The tranny was from a
recycler in AZ. It supposedly only had 95K on it. My indie installed it. He
said everything looked good and really clean, but it had been sitting in a
really dry environment for who knows how

I'll second the silent turbo on old Benzes. My 83 300D has 360,000 miles
and my 80 300SD has around 425,000 miles and I've never heard the turbo in the
approximately 18 years that I've owned them. I agree, if you hear the turbo,
it's an exhaust leak or a bad turbo.

Try the stop leak. If that doesn't work, then cut an access hole in the
dash, replace the evap, then hinge the piece you cut out and the next time you
have a problem you'll have access to the dash. I can't believe any engineer
would require you to remove a dash to work on

If your 617 has very many miles, I'd get the synthetic stuff out ASAP. In
my experience (and I know others drool over synthetic), it will make your front
and rear main seals start leaking. BTDT. I keep synthetic away from both of

2/3 and 3/4 under medium load. I just had it serviced and had a bottle of
Lucas added. Lucas claims to fix slipping, hard shifts, etc. etc. There was
no immediate improvement as some claim on Youtube. I'll

modulator on top of the IP, but I won't know for positive until I can get the

My car has the rod to the tranny and not the cable. Again, per Mark at Sun
Valley, it's an "early, simplified" version. The switches on top of the valve
cover are tied to both the IP and the EGR circuit, so I don't think you could

trying to "improve" the torque converter in the tranny in the 85 making it

it was running pure R12. I've added different refrigerant because of a very,

If you just get cans of DuraCool, you don't really need to change connectors,
etc. Again, I've mixed R12, DuraCool, and R134a in my 300D with no problems. In
hindsight, I preferred the DuraCool. It cooled better, cooled at lower head
temperatures, less drag on engine taking off and uphill

I've always wondered why everyone is so picky about the oil. My 1980 300SD was
converted to R134a years ago and I keep it on that. But in my old 1983 300D,
I've used everything with no ill affects. It was on R12 originally. I put on a
set of R134a connectors and started using DuraCool.

I would tell you to "run", but these are not bugs that are lethal. I'm NOT a
bugologist, but the first looks like a type of horned beetle. The second looks
like a type of centipede. Throw them outside and don't worry. Look for a crack
where they got in and seal it.

Well, I loaded a copy of Win7 64bit Pro on two desktops and a laptop. Each one
called home to register themselves. Months later, I loaded Win10 64 bit Pro on

a rear end bump and the crazy shop put clear coat on the rear which now with
age does NOT match the front 3/4 of the car, plus its peeling off. Don't know

your engine is worn out, you probably know from the bad starting and lack of
power. If it has metal fragments, you would know from the valve chatter or
other noise. If you're using the wrong oil, you should know from

This is definitely mold and not dust. Notice the mold on the "sides" of the
seats, dust would not hang there. Also, why say less than 110K when the speedo
shows 112K + miles? It's probably been stored under a tarp or cover that caused
it to collect moisture and thus the mold. It is humid here
