You can get the product ids of these different lync versions using sccm (simple
query on v_add_remove_programs will do this) and then create batch/cmd to pipe
all the product codes Into the script.
Script try to perform the uninstallstion on clients that has specific product
code exist.
Msiexec /X productid /q /norestart
Adjust the parameters for msiexec accordingly.

2016-10-17 Thread RJ Subscriber
We see that KB915597 from 10/13 hanging around, too, with a newer KB2267602. I
haven't been able to locate info on how the two updates work together but from
their behavior they seem to be different "definition updates" on different
update tracks. The updates are always KB915597 or KB2267602, but I can't find
any documentation on what one does over the other.

[mssms] Re: Recommended USB Flash Drives for OSD

2016-10-17 Thread RJ Subscriber
The problem we've seen is matching the PC's USB port with the right drive.
Older PCs with USB 2.0 ports often won't boot to the USB 3.0 drive, so we've
had to keep a few USB 2.0 drives around until those machines are finally
replaced. Newer PCs will use either USBs with no issues other than speed to
copy down the boot files.

I would like to entertain the idea again of using USB for imaging. In the past

Does anyone use USB 2.0 drives that you have used for a while that are

[mssms] Missing scan with SCEP context menu after SCEP update

2016-10-17 Thread Corkill, Daniel
We currently run SCEP 4.7 (little behind) and this month are pushing out the
latest SCEP client update (4.10). What we're seeing on machines that get this
new version is they're missing the context menu item to 'Scan with Endpoint
Protection' that was previously available when selecting a folder/file.

Anyone else seen this?

No, we will continue to iterate and invest in the product.

I'm the PM for MDT (among other things), and seem to be asked a variation of
question every couple of months.

MDT is not going away; our current plan includes continued investment. Not at
the same level as SCCM (MDT is free, SCCM is licensed, so level of investment
will follow accordingly), but we do continue to work on it. In fact, you'll see
an update (mostly bug fix) to it coming soon.

I spent years of my life lost in the forest because MDT didn't seem like it was

Live Meeting. Since the installers are all MSI based, I was hoping there would
be an easy way to script/automate the uninstall so I would only require 1

When I say multiple versions, here is what I mean:

8.0.6362.254

What would be the best way to package an uninstall script to tackle this? I
don't want to have multiple MSI uninstall packages. Can someone provide some

Thanks,

I already hacked together a way to deploy Nano Server with SCCM!
http://www.ephingadmin.com/deploy-nano-server-sccm-task-sequence/

I've never really gotten into MDT, so lack of MDT support is fine. Do you guys
really expect people to have to learn MDT before they can deploy Nano server?
If the next version of SCCM required people to learn PowerShell DSC to install
it, that would discourage people from using it and kill adoption rates.
Microsoft probably just slapped some PowerShell cmdlets on top of their already
created method of deploying these WIMs when they were developing Nano. They
then slapped a UI on those cmdlets for people who aren't as great with
PowerShell.

I doubt Microsoft would pick MDT if they were going to invest in a single image
management solution. It'd be SCCM.

Hello,

Does anyone have a method or process for uninstalling ALL versions of Microsoft
Live Meeting. In my environment we have approximately 9 different versions of
Live Meeting. Since the installers are all MSI based, I was hoping there would
be an easy way to script/automate the uninstall so I would only require 1
single package to get the job done in SCCM.

When I say multiple versions, here is what I mean:

8.0.6362.187

8.0.6362.215

8.0.6362.223

8.0.6362.239

8.0.6362.249

8.0.6362.254

8.0.6362.259

What would be the best way to package an uninstall script to tackle this? I
don't want to have multiple MSI uninstall packages. Can someone provide some
insight on to a recommended approach?

Thanks,

Brian

No, we will continue to iterate and invest in the product.

I'm the PM for MDT (among other things), and seem to be asked a variation of

MDT is not going away; our current plan includes continued investment. Not at
the same level as SCCM (MDT is free, SCCM is licensed, so level of investment
will follow accordingly), but we do continue to work on it. In fact, you'll see
an update (mostly bug fix) to it coming soon.

[mssms] RE: Windows Firewall Remote Desktop oddity

2016-10-17 Thread Mote, Todd
Yea, I ended up there when I was explaining this to a colleague. It's not so
much that most lenient wins, it just happens that one rule is more lenient than
the others. They all get applied because they have different sources and
different conditions around what's logically in my head the same thing,
restricting access to RDP. RDP is implemented differently between the editions
so the rules have to be different, e.g. the "Program" entry. When I applied
the 2012+ rules to a 2008 R2 machine, for example, RDP didn't work, because
svchost.exe on 2008 R2 doesn't answer on 3389, "system" does.

Turns out there's more than one service firewall rule like this. I got tipped
off to this because on the 2008 R2 server itself the rule name and group look
something like "@FirewallAPI.dll,-28778" because the firewall api can't
understand what it's being told by the newer policy.

I've got a mess to untangle for sure...

Allow rules can't conflict so this is not accurate. Both rules win, both are

So in cleaning up some OUs, rearranging and generally redoing some GPOs I came
across this little gem.

In 2008 and 2008 R2, the built in remote desktop firewall rules are written
like this:

[cid:image001.png@01D22884.C3998CE0]

In 2012, 2012 R2, and 2016, the default rules are written like this:

[cid:image002.png@01D22884.C3998CE0]

Note the biggest difference is that there are now three rules, and the Program
changed from "System" to actual executables, svchost.exe and rdpsa.exe.

Found out today that a policy written on 2012 and up does not work when applied
to 2008 R2 and down, despite both being "Advanced Firewall" rules.

I couldn't find anything specific about this on the interwebs, heck I'm not
even sure this list is appropriate, but there it is. Also, when conflicting
rules are applied, most lenient wins. We've found a bunch of 2008 + that still
have a 2003 firewall policy applied using the old xp/2003 registry style rules
allowing '*', because things were easier back then, along with later, tighter
scoped advanced firewall policies, and rdp still works from places it
shouldn't, or we didn't intend it to anyway. it turns out windows firewall has
turned into kind of a mess over time...

And yes, at the moment, I have to manage it at the host...

Re: [mssms] RE: Microsoft, please standardize on a single image management tool

2016-10-17 Thread Ryan
I already hacked together a way to deploy Nano Server with SCCM!
http://www.ephingadmin.com/deploy-nano-server-sccm-task-sequence/

I've never really gotten into MDT, so lack of MDT support is fine. Do you
guys really expect people to have to learn MDT before they can deploy Nano
server? If the next version of SCCM required people to learn PowerShell DSC
to install it, that would discourage people from using it and kill adoption
rates. Microsoft probably just slapped some PowerShell cmdlets on top of
their already created method of deploying these WIMs when they were
developing Nano. They then slapped a UI on those cmdlets for people who
aren't as great with PowerShell.

I doubt Microsoft would pick MDT if they were going to invest in a single
image management solution. It'd be SCCM.

question because this is valid:

Why would anyone leave auto updates enabled after the ConfigMgr client agent is

I use SCCM for patching. Typically, we get the normal SCCM popup for reminder

Ok…I’ll bite. ☺
I get what you’re saying, and I’m really interested to see how this petition
progresses, but my personal opinion is that this is like asking Stanley to
standardize on how to join together building materials. Do I use a hammer and
nail, nailgun, screwdriver and screw (Phillips or flathead or Torx), screw gun
and screw, staples, or glue/epoxy? They all achieve the same end goal, but they
are different tools for different circumstances, and you should use the right
tool for the right job.

A few specific comments. As ya’ll know, we’re working on more clearly
differentiating MDT and SCCM – that won’t happen overnight, but it’s on our
roadmap.

Windows has already deprecated the imaging component of ICD: see the note at
the top of
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn916113(v=vs.85).aspx.

Does anyone really use WDS for image management? Or just the Windows PXE server?

As for the others…heard. I assume NSIB is what probably pushed you over the
edge? I wish we had a better story for Nano Server in SCCM, but without the
ability to install the client, or manage via MDM, there’s not much value in
hacking together some deployment story if the long-term management does not
exist. That’s a bigger discussion we’re having with the server team.

[mssms] RE: Microsoft, please standardize on a single image management tool

2016-10-17 Thread Aaron Czechowski
Ok...I'll bite. :)
I get what you're saying, and I'm really interested to see how this petition
progresses, but my personal opinion is that this is like asking Stanley to
standardize on how to join together building materials.

As ya'll know, we're working on more clearly
differentiating MDT and SCCM - that won't happen overnight, but it's on our
roadmap.

Windows has already deprecated the imaging component of ICD: see the note at
the top of
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn916113(v=vs.85).aspx.

Does anyone really use WDS for image management? Or just the Windows PXE server?

As for the others...heard. I assume NSIB is what probably pushed you over the
edge? I wish we had a better story for Nano Server in SCCM, but without the
ability to install the client, or manage via MDM, there's not much value in
hacking together some deployment story if the long-term management does not
exist. That's a bigger discussion we're having with the server team.

Aaron

[mssms] Windows Firewall Remote Desktop oddity

2016-10-17 Thread Mote, Todd
So in cleaning up some OUs, rearranging and generally redoing some GPOs I came
across this little gem.

In 2008 and 2008 R2, the built in remote desktop firewall rules are written
like this:

[cid:image002.png@01D22872.F4580E40]

In 2012, 2012 R2, and 2016, the default rules are written like this:

[cid:image003.png@01D22872.F4580E40]

[mssms] RE: Recommended USB Flash Drives for OSD

2016-10-17 Thread Murray, Mike
Honestly we have a mixed bag of USB keys and they all work fine. Are you
talking about standalone imaging or just putting the boot image on it?
Either way, we use a wide variety.

Subject: [mssms] Recommended USB Flash Drives for OSD

Hello All,

I would like to entertain the idea again of using USB for imaging. In the
past we were using the Kingston Traveler USB 3.0 drives and I recently read
that these are known to have issues with imaging. I did not know this and
always wondered why imaging would sometimes flake out for us.

Does anyone use USB 2.0 drives that you have used for a while that are
consistently working with OSD?

Thanks!

Chris

[mssms] Old Windows Defender update not being marked as superseded

2016-10-17 Thread Murray, Mike
My Endpoints are getting updated this morning. When I checked the update
package, I see an update from 10/13 that has not been superseded. There are
newer updates, so I'm not sure why this one is still there?

2016-10-17 Thread Marcum, John
Cierson announced a web front end last week. It's not free but they do have
some free tools that may do what you need.
