I suspected that too, but I didn't find luatex-cache at /home.
Fonts are found fine now, but I cannot rebuild the font cache (as I
replied to Aditya).

I give more on setup below.
My three issues:
1. The space after the period in et al. stretches, which does not look right.
I tried modifying the otherstext field in various ways, but could not get a
working solution. Any advice?
2. With the compress option
will display them as one thread (see attached
image that shows how it is displayed in my mailer). I suspect that's
what you've done here. Technically, the problem is that your email's
headers contain a field References, which they shouldn't; but from a
usage point of view the easiest is to simply
incorporate the
ISBN field. So I just put it at the end of each entry preceded by
a \crlf.
