the final release is version 1.302. Maybe I don't care the new changes
since 1.200, but every time I compile my file, I get the warnings I

Hi, I uploaded a new version of lmtx (also because some users have to test some new metapost functionality). In the next upload metafun will use 'double' mode (and scaledfun will be the traditional one). The advantage is less dager for overflows and in the meantime running in double mode is often also faster. IMO, that is currently the biggest limitation of the context bib module that only a few citation styles are supported. Developing a new citation style is relatively easy but a lot of work. There is no need for \noexpand before \NC. Even \NR is protected. In
MKIV there are some more sensitive ones like \FR but in LMTX these are

can add \dotagsetparcounter in \SYNBOL and that removes the warning!

The strange thing with fractions seems to be due to the parameter
FractionNumeratorDisplayStyleShiftUp in lm.lfg. If you always set it
to 600, it seems to work also for luatex. (This will be fixed.)

moving broken installation aside and doing a fresh install with

Hi,
I uploaded a new lmtx. Apart from a experimental intersection feature in
the mp library (and metafun, more will be revealed when MS an I are okay
with it) there is not that much news.
I decided to turn some test code into a mechanism which is illustrated
below. Adaptive boxes are hboxes that act a bit like glue which means
that when we hook in e.g. a graphic it can be made to adapt.
We can add some more methods if needed so maybe you see other usage. The
interface is rather lightweight and the overhead is quite resonable.

It actually uses an already present for a while low level engine feature
that we introduced as part of the math processing update:

Hi, Normally when we're in the 2022 TeXlive code freeze period, there is a snapshot release but because there hasn't been that many changes, maybe a few patches, in MKIV there is no real snapshot this year. But for the sake of consistency we can consider today's version that snapshot. It basically means that MKIV has been frozen and is even more frozen now. All new stuff goes in MKXL (aka LMTX) and I suppose that next year we let that end up in TeXlive alongside frozen MKII and MKIV. Of course bugs will be fixed as usual. Hi, As most of you know by now, Mikael and I are working on a math support upgrade. In order to let users keep up we uploaded a new version. We have been revisioning some of the more obscure constructs where we have no clue of usage, like pmod, bmod, bordermatrix etc, commands that we took (and reimplemented) decades ago from plain TeX or AMS TeX, assuming that these are standards. In this release, encouraged by the positive response we received from users regarding the new simplealignment construction, and in particular regarding the self-explaining sesac, we have decided to introduced some new constructs. First out is \startformula \startxıɹʇɐɯ \NC a_1 \NC b_1 \NC c_1 \NR \NC a_2 \NC b_2 \NC c_2 \NR \NC a_3 \NC b_3 \NC c_3 \NR \stopxıɹʇɐɯ \stopformula for rotation matrices. This was demanded for some advanced math courses that Mikael teaches. It might inspire users to come up with demands that suits their own obscure but nevertheless interesting math. At some point we realized that, with (also) scientific publishers (of math journals) moving to MS Word and Indesign, we operate in a rather peculiar niche and the fact that we use an upgraded and more granular math engine, made us wonder how to communicate all these new features and standards that we set. It is for that reason that from now on we will operate under the CMS umbrella. That abbreviation stands for ConTeXt Math Society. It has no funny swirly TeX logo which itself is a statement: in Unicode math script and calligraphic alphabets are so messed up that it is impossible to have a reliable and predictable rendering. We go for Dutch and Swedish simplicity in the spirit of W.N. Lansburgh: back to the times before TeX was written (1964). There will be no limits and boundaries set. (Talking math limits and boundaries: these can already go everywhere anyway, as can fences.) So, when we mention CMS, we mean serious math business, but kindergarten math is also embraced! There are no consequences for users: ConTeXt users with a proven math track record are automatically a member, but we are not too picky, everyone is welcome. We don't have honorary members but Taco (the first ConTeXt math user) and Aditya (the most experienced one) might consider themselves as such. Mikael Sundqvist is the chairman, which is a livelong appointment. (A nice side effect is that with Arthur living in Sweden too, that gives us a very strong position in the TeX landscape there.) So, today's upload is sort of special: welcome CMS (ConTeXt Math Shines), goodbye AMS (American Math Second). Of course we're open for suggestions and it being an open society all voices will be heard, but only proper (retro) math cf Lansburgh will be honored. Of course we only listen to ConTeXt users and, as that package is not supposed to be used for serious math, we don't bother about the few publishers left that still do math. Are we done? Not yet. We're in the middle of (colorful and graphic) alignment ornaments and after that we're going to expand and improve multi-line display formulas and equation numbering. It will be no coincidence that the cover of Landburghs book about math typesetting has a prominent 'AWE' embedded in a logo with a lion on top: we hope all users are in awe about what the TeX lion can do. I had relatively fewer issues with Libertinus and no issues with the fonts in LMTX itself. So overall, I am very happy with it (and grateful for it). I also noticed that ontarget document from the previous upload had not much in it apart from the attractive cover page. Now it has so many nice details which I look forward to studying from. We're glad that you notice the improvements! So it's worth the effort. Behind the scenes, the first \startgraphviz ... \stopgraphviz environment
writes the content to an external file (\jobname-temp-graphviz.tmp), runs
`context --purge \jobname-temp-graphviz.tmp`, which creates
`\jobname-temp-graphviz.pdf`. The `\ReadPDF` macro then includees the file
(with object=no).
At the next \startgraphviz .. \stopgraphviz, the same process is repeated. The
`\jobname-temp-graphviz.pdf` file is overwritten and the new file should have
been included. But it is not. The output contains the first image twice.
I thought that object=no should have prevented the reuse. In fact, if I compile
the file with luatex, I get an error message:
! error: (pdf inclusion): file has changed '12-two-outputs-temp-graphviz.pdf'
mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 256
Any idea why object=no is not working?
the pdf file is kept open, for various reasons:
- performance
- the might be different pages to fetch
- analysis happens when the image is placed, inclusion happens later
so you try to reopen an already open file (which has not been completely
processed)

(we're now ironing out some crazy symbols that no one ever bothered
about but that annoy us)

We have two sets of Cyrillic patterns (and several Latin ones as
well), so composing a single file was a bit of a (somewhat political)
challenge.
Now at least in theory the users are free to choose which of the two
sets of patterns they want.
I never checked what ConTeXt was doing with the Serbian patterns.
Personally I would suggest taking hyph-sh-cyrl.pat.txt and hyph-sh-latn.pat.txt.

Hi, There haven't been updates and the reason is that we're in the middle of math and/or wrapping up on transliteration / indic (for which there is also a nice wiki page being made). Concerning math, we're progressing with some rather flexible spacing, penalty, linebreak extensions but don't want to risk that when not used it gives different results (probably not all can be completely compatible but that is a side effect of getting rid of some hard coded assumptions in the engine). One objective is to make input a bit easier and predictable, esp wrt the often needed correction spacing (\, and friends). Anyway, in addition to Mikaels request for input an while ago ... if there are 'tex math annoyances' that you think originate in the way tex expects input, and you'd like them to be taken into account, let us know. to switch the language in order to have hyphenation in transliterated text.
That was possible because cyrillic and latin scripts use different code
points, and there are no conflicts in patterns.
So I suggest merging the patterns for Serbian cyrillic and latin.
I'd like to hear Arthur / Mojca on that we can of course load them
both but if that is an upstream merge i'll wait for that
you can actually map multiple to multiple in the tranmsliteration tables
["foo"] = "oof"
and such and there is in the next version also an exception mechanism
that permits clone a transliteration and add exceptions
There is another issue if one wants to use a dropcap and the rest of
that first word, and several following words are to be typeset in small
caps.
If that first letter is Љ (or other two letters that transliterate as
digraphs), then the second letter of the digraph is not typeset in small
caps because
it gets injected before the group that turns on small caps.
For example:

but this is quite a special case...
you can use \settransliteration{name} locally so as part of a style
specification (there is also \resettransliteration)

there is key and entry with key between []
when sorting, the key wins but because there can be duplicates the entry
itself is also part of the final sort key
the accumulates sort key is sanitized and after that sorting happens in
several stages (these can be defined / adapted) according to language,
taking numbers into account and finally using the unicode ordering ...
you can fool the system by messing with the [key]
it's not the easiest subsystem (but it has a long history ... as with
many subsystems the principles are not much different than mkii and the
code seldom changes but of course evolved)

Q1: Do you have any further suggestions on new classes (or comments on
these)? It might be good to think about situations where you have felt
that you need to insert manual spaces such as \, or \! to obtain a
better result.
I give one contribution: I asked a colleague to look in his TeX files
for manual spaces, and he came up with several \, (usually before the
d in integrals) but also with \!. This \! occurred mostly in fencing
situations to have the exponent come a bit closer to the closing
parenthesis.
\left( \frac{x}{2} \right)^{\! k+2n}
I have seen this in many places before, so no originality is claimed.
Two more classes that we thought of are under and over. Say that we
have a\overbar{bc}d. Should the spacing between a and the \overbar{bc}
and the spacing between \overbar{bc} and d always be tight? If so,
these might just be ord, and no new class needed (although one could
argue for adding the classes now, set them up as ord, and thus being
able to configure them according to taste/need).
Q2: Do you have any real examples of constructions with \overbar,
\underbar, \overbrace, ... or if you have any strong opinion, please
raise your voice!
Here is a teaser:

The result is attached. So maybe Mikaels explanation above and this
example will trigger demand.
One of the possibilities is that users define their own classes and put
characters in it. (this can be domain specific and domains is something
that has been on the todo for quite a while.)
For that reason we might bump the current number of classes (we have 32
classes compared to the 8 that regular tex has) to 64 (which is possible
when we bring down the number of families to 64 (currently 128 compared
to 256 in luatex and 16 in regular tex) which is still plenty and way
more than we ever need (so if needed we can borrow bits for the math
unicode range which is now limited to 0xF; it was already limited
anyway).
This move also makes it possible to remove some other hacks (with the
usual 'a pity to throw nice code away syndrome' side effect) and can
have some 'initialization of old school ascii' side effects (neglectable
because we can set it up via the emacro package).
For the record: the \Umathspacing primitives have been
dropped but can be emulated easily (in the end it saves hundreds of
primitives).

The accompanying serif font (Noto Serif Devanagari) works just fine (mostly, there are problems with that as well). In this specific case, there does not seem to be any fix (at least that I could find). I am trying to test many fonts and come up with a list of fonts which work, partially work, don't work, etc. and fixes wherever possible. Side note: we tested a lot and could find some hacks around font issues but in the end decided that adding some heuristics for (maybe whatever historic issues) makes no sense because eventually one ends up fighting heuristics. So, in the end we removed these fixing features and instead just do as announced above: tell what works and not with what fonts (and as some fonts are in development we can just wait till things work). The source code mentions a concept of list renderers. This sounds like
the correct API to plug in, but it’s hard for me to grasp how exactly it

The problem with tables is that they are multipass and store
(unexpanded) data so it has not enough info. Attached is an example of
how to circumvent this (the helpers can be found in the lua file).
(You can then try to add it to the wiki so that it gets documented. The
lua-context interface wrt TABLE can do the same from the lua end as in
tex. There are examples of that.)

tex has a few abstractions (thinmuskip etc) than basically postpone a
setting so that they can be adapted by setting these 'special - internal
in luametatex speak - mu glue registers' but is is being generalized so
that we can group math (integer, dimension, glue) parameters by binding
them to registers and constants ... that way we can do simple and
efficient switches to different spacing ... just that you know

I confirm that this is a bug, which was not there in the version from mid Dec.
Not a bug, but new interface. You need:

[align={1:right,2:left,3:left}]
It is also possible to say: align={all:middle}. Combination of the two don't
seem to work.
basically we increment each element but a number sets the column so one
can go to a specific column; empty (whatever non number will start again
at zero)

so by default there is space added to scripts (more in latin modern than
in cmr btw as it is font driven) but one can argue if that makes sense
at all ... this is why we might default to zero font spacing and
specific super/subscript spacing instead (just as in lmtx we have
prescripts and related (fake opentype) spacing)
in a similar fashion there is built-in pre/post fraction spacing that
makes that we cannot have tight fractions (by default) while in fact
that has to be driven by proper fraction-class spacing so that's another
thing that might happen: tight fractions + proper interclass spacing
(because we have less memory constraints than when tex showed up we can
add classes without overhead)
(i bet that due to a 'tex does perfect math syndrome' these thinsg go
unnoticed (not by DEK himself, just look at the chapters on finetunign
math) ... some of it is also compensate for the width-of-glyph cheating
that goes on in the traditional engine but that is another matter

if the test suite doesn't crash (i only test that) i'll upload ... it
has to do with decoupling some in the engine: tex uses lots of shifting,
cheating on dimensions and displacements that relate to (older) fonts

classes and we have dozens more spacing class variables ... all waiting
to be used (some features are already there for more than a year but now
get used in low level code, which is why we can expect some instabilities)
