Same here, almost invariably the D was set to manual selection or centre
point. I do miss the easy centre-only selection that the D had, although
my EOS does do a heck of a lot better with Auto-selection of AF points
(That said the AF unit does also cover a lot less of the frame than the

I don't have a D but I compared the D and DS briefly for a bit when I
was in the UK last June, my friend Richard has the D. To my casual
test, there was very little difference in focusing performance with
the same lens.
Curiously, Richard finds the D a much more satisfying camera, to the
Auto focus with the Ds seems to be about the same as with the D. Not
any difference I've been able to discern.

I'm not sure why anyone on this list, or any other, thinks they have
an inside line to Pentax.
Does anyone know if the FA 60-250 f4 zoom is for real or just

I believe that Pentax needs to improve AF-speed in order to even begin to
compete with Canon and Nikon.
Speed - or rather - the lack of speed (not only AF, but also write
speed) -
would certainly be my main reason for
(a little less expensive). I guess most photographers did just that.

Nothing good will come of it - even with a F. 2.8 lens.
Sports photography is simply off limits using a *ist D, IMO.

VX1000 or my 1987 P50.

What I'm saying is, that sports photography IS professional photography.
The same can be said about dog photography or any other kind of photography
imaginable because somebody somewhere certainly do it for a living.
