Well guys, here's your chance to get a nice ALVA, so check it out on eBay. At

The plaster core of BA's tends to swell over the years, causing them to not
fit on the spindle properly. This is very common with these records. The
simplest solution is to purchase a cylinder reamer from a phono parts d
Actually, the appraiser on the Road Show was Nick Hawkins, who handles
mechanical music, incl. phonographs, for Skinner in Boston. He was
previously with Christie's in London, and should know quite a bit about
phonographs. I was surprised that his performance on the show was not very
good.

Columbia did supply a ribbed or scalloped oak horn as an option for machines
such as the BI and BII. A friend has one on his BII and it is extremely
nice. You were very fortunate to find one as they are not common. I don't
know about the collar.

I would say that a Columbia nickle plated horn is not scarce as they appear
on eBay every once in a while. However, finding one with extremely nice
nickle may not be easy. A nice one usually goes for $300 to $350, so the
statement that the horn alone is worth the auction price is really not true
I remember Miller and Frick well. Have most of their catalogs from about
1972-1979, and they were very educational to me. These guys, along with
Thomas Pollard and Gene Ballard, were my major source of parts when I first
got into collecting. For some reason, California had most of the suppliers
You're right. I forgot about that one.

$71,875. I don't know if that price included buyers premium or not.

The $33,799 that won the Auxetophone may be a record for a disc phonograph.
Does anyone know of a disc phono that sold for more? Cylinder and tinfoil
phonos have gone for more, such as the lyre Multiphone for $35,000 in 2003 or
the original Parlor model tinfoil for $51,970 in 1999.

Hello all: My move from New Orleans to Roswell, GA went well and all phonos
and records made the move with only a few minor problems. Packing and
unpacking all the machines, records, and horns was a real chore. I now have
much more room than I had before and the phono room is almost set up.

Stanton's has sold two that I am aware of, one in 1999 for $400, and one in
2002 for $450. I don't know what their condition was.

I believe $600-$650 would be quite reasonable for both of them, and possibly
on the low side if both are in great condition. The Gem C typically runs
$400-600 at auction (with small cone horn), and the Peter Pan $200-300.
