BPA and others...

I just realized yesterday that Logitech is dumping their entire
Squeezebox line. My whole house has several custom clients that are
based on the latest SoftSqueeze.jar (integrates into my Media Center
software). I am curious how long will my clients continue to work for?
Are there any opensource backends which could be compatible with my
Softsqueeze.jar based app? It's unconscionable for me to image Logitech
just dumping such a great technology.

This is great! :) I was so bummed out until I saw both of your
responses. So, potentially we can have 3rd party plugins for SiriusXM ,
Slacker and Pandora. I vaguely remember there's already a 3rd party
plugin for SiriusXM.

As long as the 3rd party plugins are offered for SiriusXM; and, at least
one or two more 3rd party radio provider plugins, I'll be set for for a
while (until I can ultimately find a technology that can completely
replace everything I have currently).

Do any of you have a list of working 3rd party radio plugins?

PS: Would I still be able to keep my local FM radio stations I listen to
via Squeezebox clients?

Thanks so much for your information!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] List of 3rd party plugins to replace Squeezebox.com-dependent music services

2013-01-04 Thread mkanet

I just read that LMS and respective Squeezebox client devices will
continue to work as long as the plugins used are not dependent on
Squeezebox.com servers. I'm curious if anyone can provide a list 3rd
party plugins for music services.

I've been told there is a Spotify 3rd party plugin. I also know of the
NotSoSirius plugin. I'm curious if there's any news about any 3rd party
Slacker and Pandora plugins as well. Hopefully, there may be some
developers who want their own setups to continue to work; so, they would
provide a plugin for us to use. I would gladly donate generously for
developers who want to help.

2011-10-20 Thread mkanet

Yeah, I just recently downloaded and installed the mp3 plugin from that
same URL.

BPA can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the whole reason
why the mp3 plugin was never included as part of the package is because
it belongs to Oracle (not public domain).

Havin_it;664537 Wrote:
Hi, I don't know how alive this thread or BPA's work are at this stage,
but I have a point to add and a question to raise, if I may. Both are
related to the Java MP3 Plugin.

Point: The most recently-posted link above for the plugin now goes to
an Oracle page for a larger bundle of multimedia-stuff. I found a link
for the MP3 plugin alone, at

 http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-java-client-419417.html#javamp3-1_0-oth-JPR

Question: Is there any way the MP3 plugin can be included into the
Softsqueeze applet/jnlp when deployed from one's own server, instead of
the client having to download and add it to their Java install? Note I
appreciate the licensing issues, but I'm only talking about individuals
being able to include it by themselves for their own use. (As long as
only I use the applet, I believe I'm still honouring the license for
 the plugin, no?)

I realise the plugin is only available compiled, but can it somehow be
supplied along with the main Softsqueeze applet, or does it have to be
properly installed in the client's JRE?

Hi Robert, I'm a paid Sirius subscriber. There are people like me who
can't use the native SBS sirius plugin due to the dreaded, You are not
authorized... error message. I get that error message after listening
to sirius for approximately a few seconds to a few minutes, then the
music stream stops. I reported this bug to bugzilla over a year ago,
but it was never fixed. A fellow NoSoSirius who had the same problem
told me to use your plugin. And, wala... you plugin worked
flawlessly... until the sirius web player was changed.

Is it easier to make a beta plugin for NoSoSirius for people who have
full subscription? If so, maybe you can release a beta limited to that
until you have more time to get it to work for people who have low
bandwidth sirius only.

Hopefully, you can have something for us in the near future; as there
are many of us who have no way to play sirius at all without getting
the You are not authorized.. error mssage. I know that web scraping
is not a simple task; and can be very time consuming. Please let us
know if you need anyone to test for you.

Keep up the great work!

I realize you're just as anxious as everyone here to get this going.
But, I have to say, it really doesnt make any sense to unnecessarily
destroy the original quality of the high quality mp3 stream with

complex to just grab the mp3 stream in it's native format. From what

that may not be ideal.

BPA, I'm pretty sure that you can test this easily.. using a recent
version of Squeezebox Server/squeezenetwork.com. You have the ability
to add local FM radio station in your area as favorites.

Unfortunately, Now Playing displays information that doesnt look like
was intended to be seen for these types of favorites (see below
screenshots). Is there anyway to include logic to filter out the
information that wasn't intended to be displayed? I dont know if this
is a bug that only affects legacy Slim protocol based clients or newer
clients as well. Maybe you already know about this bug? If this is a
Squeezenetwork/Squeezebox Server bug... I'm really worried that the
developers wont put a high priority on fixing this since it's on older
clients.

Hi BPA, thanks for the quick response. It's builtin to SB. I didnt
have to add a plugin or configure in any way (at least I dont remember
doing that). You might see support for this on your account in
Squeezenetwork.com. Its surprising that so many great features/radio
networks are exclusive to USA only. I thought there was a good chance
your local radio stations would be be supported in Ireland.

It would be nice to know how these channels were added. I might as in
another forum thread how they were added. Thanks for your information

BPA, as you might know, Android based mobile devices are the
biggest/fastest selling phones currently (beating iphone, blackberry,
nokia, etc). You would be like a god if you could compile Softsqueeze
for the current Android OS (Froyo 2.2) Java. I'm guessing there would
only minor changes you need to do before compiling to make it work..
such as outputing to the android sound device for sound.

There's a good chance that pretty much all Android phone owners on this
forum would use Softsqueeze for Android. If you were to make the
Android version, I'm pretty sure it would be much more popular than
even the one used in this thread.

I am pretty sure that you also have the right to distribute it and sell
it on Google Market (Android app store). I would definitely buy it.
$4.95 sounds like a reasonable price for what it does.

Would you please think about it; considering all the people who you
would make happy on this forum? This seems like a perfect opportunity
since, Squeezeplay can't be ported to other platforms.

What are you thoughts?

Thanks,
MKA

Thanks for the candid responses. I didnt really expect squeezecommander
to support audio anytime soon; which is why I asked. But it looks like
audio support may be closed than I originally thought. I just bought
squeezecommander for my android phone for 2.99 pounds. Hopefully,
there will be an update soon for audio. Until then, the only way I can
do this is to RDP into my server with my Android phone and use
Softsqueeze.

bpa;587247 Wrote:
Yes you are guessing - from a quick glance I think that not only the
audio but also the user interface libraries are not supported by
Android - so those would require new code as well as porting over the
other 3rd parties libraries (about 6 in total) which may or may not use
APIs which are unsupported by Android.

I've used that argument before getting development budgets approved -
then reality happens. Optimism should never be used when hard numbers
can be found. Besides you are ignoring the current Andoid offerings
for squeezbox which are likely to have audio support soon as well as
 other growing music alternatives.

I think Richard Titmuss and the authors of the 3rd party libraries
would need to be consulted first.
Strangely it would be cheaper for me to give it away for free than to
charge for it as the additional income would trigger some taxes and I
reckon the sales would not cover the accountants costs, the taxes
payable and the development effort. Furthermore once people pay for
 something they demand support 24x7.

So for me it is not worth the hassle.

I may be somewhat negative but it is a dull grey day, pouring rain with
hurricane-like weather due and a swingeing govt. budget in 3 weeks as
 the whole economy tanks.

Whatever it is, it doesnt sound like a Squeezebox client issue. But,
it doesnt make sense that the developers would blatantly leave it
broken for a half a year.

I am able to navigate through all parts of the napster areas. Its just

For several although the Napster plugin has been included in the latest
SBS, there is a small issue related to the fact that it uses WMA based
files. I get all sort of messages from my players saying Connect timed
out: Bada file descriptor, etc.

I went under file types under WMA and disabled some items. Doing this,
did a t least seem to help reduce the errors; which leds me to believe
this has something to do with what happened with Sirius Radio a while
back.

You dont even need to load a client, just try any of the latest
squeezebox servers and navigate with napster. You might know exactly
what I need to change for the napster:// protocol is recognized once
again. Im not sure if this is related to the audio format or the fact
that I need to manually re-add the napster:// protocol back for SBS to
know what website to go to.

I dont think this is client specific, maybe I changed a setting by
accident? Anyway BP, being the good guy you are, I would really

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2010-08-11 Thread mkanet

Hi BPA, I can understand that your motivation to fix benign errors like
the one below isn't the top of your todo list. :) However, if its just
a typo, maybe you could fix it in your next public build. That error
seems to happen on Windows and Linux using any recent Squeezebox server
when you click on the plugins tab and select settings for this plugin.
Speaking of trivial things, I remember seeing a Softsqueeze 3.9b2
somewhere, but I think that must have been a mistake since the latest
version of the plugin I could download is 3.9b1

There are a couple of lingering issues which arent so trivial; but, I'm
guessing they are pretty difficult to fix or you probably would have
fixed them by now. Issue #1 is actually a relatively high priority
since some of us still use Softsqueeze to play local music.

Issue #1: For local media, the first second or so of a song is cut
off.  IIRC, this doesnt happen on classic squeezebox hardware clients;
so, it can't be a SBS limitation.

Issue #2: For whatever reason.. the cute little Softsqueeze Java applet
that comes with Softsqueeze broke at some point in the recent past (It
used to work with Softsqueeze 3.6 and I think even in 3.7). IIRC, you
mentioned in the past that you've never even heard of it before. The
app looks like its about to finish loading into memory, but gets stuck
right before showing the interface. Here's the URL if you want to try
it:

http://127.0.0.1:9000/plugins/softsqueeze/html/applet.html

Anyway we all can't thank you enough BPA for keeping Softsqueeze alive
and working nicely.

-M

bpa;568377 Wrote:
No error - there are no settings. It is an typo in the install.xml
which tells SBS there is a settings page.

Softsqueeze is the old Slimndevices supported version which was
removed around 7.3 or 7.4. Community Softsqueeze is used to identify
 as a plugin version.

 What is the issue ?

If Softsqueeze is not playing - it is good to give system details such
 as
 - SBS version ?
 - OS version ?
 - Java version ?

Don't forget that Softsqueeze has no inbuilt decoders for AAC or WMA so
if you are trying to play those formats you will need to install the
 relevant plugins.

However, with the newer Squeezebox, that link doesnt work. I just get
a blank screen. I already enabled the Slimplayer 3.9b2 plugin... and,
it shows up under active plugins/CommunitySoftSqueeze (V.39b2).
Settings buttons also doesnt work and gives an error.

How can I get it to work? I really need this to work since my Andriod
based mobile doesnt have any kind of Squeezebox client whatsoever;
however, does support java.

Thanks in advance for the quick response!
Michael

Hi BPA, thanks for the quick reply back. The applet allows you to have
a softsqueeze client embedded in the web browser. This is the only way
I know to get a Squeezebox client from my Android based mobile phone.
I'm actually very surprised I couldnt find a single Squeezebox client
for the Android OS; not even in alpha/beta stage.

Anyway,

When I enter the URL below, i get the following error:

Failed to get Softsqueeze Libraries.

Where is the actual (default) location on a Windows file system? I'm
guessing I need to manually copy the jars and other related files to
the location? I've already spent a couple of hours trying to figure
out where the files go; and,if they are even copied after I
enable/download the Softsqueeze plugin through the server settings.

What is this applet supposed to do ? I see no reference to it so I
 assumed it was a remnant.

hope you dont think that people aren't using softsqueeze just because

The only remaining bug that affects me is when playing back local

other bugs there are.

Are you able to even get to the interface so you can go into the
preferences and change the sound card driver you want to use? If yes,
then change the sound card to something else that works.

If no, (which is what I'm guessing is what's happening) you may have to
go into the registry and manually change the sound card (softsqueeze
mixer) used. The name in quotes will be the same name you see for your
audio devices under control panel; except you need a / symbol
preceeding each work such as:

audio.mixer=/Speakers (/Realtek /High /Definition /Audio)
audio.mixer=/Speakers (/Creative /S/B /X-/Fi)
audio.mixer=/Speakers (/Bluetooth /Stereo /Audio)
audio.mixer=/Primary /Sound /Driver

Located under here:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\org\titmuss\softsqueeze]

I hope this helps a little.

This is a long shot, because I dont know the real name of your sound
card that your system sees it at... and Im going to take your word for
it that what you said (each character counts!!) is correct.

First... close softsqueeze... do NOT have it in memory.
Second, close regedit if its still open in memory.

Then...

Download the attachment in this post to your desktop, extract the reg
file in it. Double-click it, acknowledge that you want it to be added
to your PC.

Then go back to the same registry location.. and confirm that this
entry is now there and that before it wasnt... then try opening
Softsqueeze again.. see if you can get into the preferences without
errors.

Backend=mysqueezebox.com or whatever it was called at the time
SqueezeCenter 7.2.1 was releaesd. I dont think the is related to any
changes done on my server. All settings have been the same, changing the
available settings didnt make any difference back then; I never got that
error. This issue only happens when the backend mysqueezebox.com
somehow reports more than one login of the same service handled by
mysqueezebox.com.

You are on the right track by asking me to look at things that affect
the manipulation of TCP/IP. There is s a reason why some of these specs
were carefully selected by Microsoft. I will figure it out and let you
know. If anyone can figure out whats happened, it's me... since Im, the
one who madethe changes and know exactly what I changed and when.
However. the weird thing is my OS, service pack and tweaks that I used
did not adversely affect playack of my sotsqueeze clients on the server.
In fact, the server version (whether Slimsever, Squeezecenter,
Squeezebox) never really made a different what I did. Sirius Radio
plugin back in the old days which didnt rely on the logitech backend,
worked peferfectly.

I'll let you know as soon as I understand moreabout whats happening on
my server during these hickups which dont happen too often.

Thanks for your help! I hope my information might help someone else in
the future if/when I come up with a solution.

PS; I have 12 TV tuners. 6 of them are network encoder based, 2 of
them are satellite DVB based. I will look into that too.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2010-02-08 Thread mkanet

BPA, for whatever it's worth, I want to thank you for genuinely caring
about softsqueeze. There are more people than you could ever imagine
that use it... not the way you imagine though. Many of us use your
softsqueze.jar and use our own GUI frontend. Softsqueeze.jar doesnt
know the difference.. just depending on it's registry settings.

There is an issue I have spent hours on trying to get to the bottom of
(related to my previous questions).

I ONLY use your latest softsqueeze.jar on multiple clients (some with
the traditional old fashioned interface, some with the very advanced UI
(much nicer than even squeezeplay). I dont use any other version of the
jar file.

As you know, there are some information that
softsqueeze.jarmysqyeezebox.com do not pass between eachother.
The most obvious is mysqueezebox.com doesnt display which client is
active; even if music is being proxied from the music service to the
client. Also, favorites aren not synched. Interestingly, some things
are updated.

There is this very unusual bug related to the mysqueezebox.com backend
which is driving me nuts; which maybe you might know what's going
on... even if its a wild guess with no way to fix it.

Have you see this post on the forum?
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71255

It seems that there are people (besides me) who are complaining that
mysqueezebox.com (after Squeezecenter 7.3 was introduced) would
unexpectedly give the errors You are not authorized (for Sirius Radio)
and You are logged in in another location (for Slacker). When there
are NOT other players signed on using the same account.

I am very sure this is caused by mysqueezebox.com no managing it's
players properly. It leaves ghost/stray audio connections lingering
around to the Internet Music Service provider; even though the player
has obviously stopped it's audio connection. This is just a guess (and
I might be completely wrong), but I think that softsqueze.jar sometime
resets it's audio stream due to some kind of hickup which causes
mysqyeezebox.com to think there are now two simultaneous logins; hence,
telling the music provider there are two logins.

If you have a better guess, please let me know. If you think my guess
could be a valid possibility, what precautions can I take to prevent
these error messages.

Here is a ubBIG HINT/b/u, this issue seems to only occur during
local playback (softsqueeze.jar) on the same machine as the squeezebox
server. It doesnt make a difference if I use proxied or direct
connection. I have increased the network buffer to 5 seconds and
timeout to 10 seconds. Maybe, I should increase the buffer even more?

If there's a way to add code to softsqueeze.jar to communicate player
status and possibly other items to mysqueeebox server; hence eventually
to mysqueezebox.com, this might increase reliability under certain
circumstances; and, at the same time keep softsqueeze.jar fully
featured. Communicating status at the very least might help a great
deal.

Maybe there are technological limitations that are just not feasible.
However, I thought I would at least mention this in case some of these
ideas might be possible by someone smart like you.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2010-02-08 Thread mkanet

This is very helpful advice. Yes, I have a feeling this issue I'm
seeing is related to a specific machine; which happens to be my
squeezebox server as well. I did install a TCP/IP hack to increase the
limit of TCPIIP connections since I use this machine for several
different TCP/IP related services. However, that should help things, but
make things worse.

Ever since I added secondary accounts to slacker and sirius radio on
mysqueezebox.com, I noticed the problem happens much less frequeently
(it used to be sometimes every 5 minutes.. now its every 45 minutes - 1
hour)...even longer if I dont do anything TCP/IP related. I guess I
could try to increase the buffer to a very high value; including the
timeout to see what kind of affect it has.

The condition I'm pointing out is definitely not that bad; and in fact,
works great. However, I have so many internet services running on this
machine, you probably wouldnt believe it... I have 12 TV tuners on this
machine serving through the internet, ASP.net based apps, FTP, and many
other TCP/IP based services.

The good news is I inreased the reliabilty considerably by adding 2
accounts (one for each client). I dont know why that helped, but
there's not question that it did. I will also take a closer look at
tcp/ip based activity using my favorite utility TCPView; which works
okay.

Thank you for your support for this product with minor enhancements. I
dont expect any major changes. As long as logitech doesnt abandon their
customers who bought the classic squeezebox hardware devices, I think us
softsqueeze users will be fine.

bpa;515339 Wrote:
As I said before I cannot test these services as they are not available
 to me.

Softsqueeze is not my code - I just do some basic maintenance on it to
keep it ticking over until SqueezePlay is ready (which is taking longer
 than expected).

Changing Softsqueeze to add some additional status would probably
require changes in SBS which I cannot do so it is unlikely. Spoftsqueeze
is a strange beast, within SBS it is subclassed of a Transporter model
as it was used to test new products graphics but its audio/network is
not quite an SB2 so it has a minimal implementation of the slimproto
protocol especially since changes in 7.3.

Your best bet would be to isolate the problem. I think you need to
record sessions (probably on both sides of local SBS) using something
like wireshark (was Ethereal). Note time when recording started and the
time when the problem occur - examine the recording forensically at the
problem timepoint and go backwards. I've done this a number of times
tracking rare protocol events which required recordings of many hours -
it is tedious but that is what it will require.

From your description, I think the problem could be associated with a
TCP reset which is used to clear half-open TCP connection but often
still ends with a half open connection but stuck. Applications need to
look for the ECONNRESET error but often with don't block on read on a
TCP socket - the Reset error code is overlooked as code assumes there is
no data to read. I think there could be issues handling ECONNRESET in a
proxy configuration (e.g. should a RESET be propagated or absorbed or
 link closed by the proxy).

To get started, I suggest looking at the Reset count in the TCP
connection statistics (e.g. netstat -s) on both sides of the SBS and
from both ends (i.e. monitor 4 sets of counts). The Reset count usually
only increment at beginning and end of connections. See if Reset count
is increment around the time you have a hiccough in your audio.

behavior. I would like to know what's safe and what's not. The feature
I use most is disabling the ridiculously low default limit of TCP/IP

So which tweaks can I keep and which one seems like might be the
reason I'm having these issues?

http://mka.net/Half-open_limit_fix_3.1.rar (most popular Vista

bpa;515352 Wrote:
One scenario for TCP Reset happens with media players which don't ack
TCP packets until they have been processed ready to play. If you have
large no. of TCP buffers then many packets will have been received but
not acked - if you are using a high compressions (e.g. slow speed mP3)
or big window size (e.g. Satellite link) then the time taken to play the
internal buffer is longer than the TCP timeout on unacked packets.

The problem with TCP connection reset usually happens when users
increase the number of buffers and/or increase TCP WIndows size
(typically on satellite connections) to optimise the throughput. This
is fine for ftp or HTTP - disaster for media.

To see if this is your problem you need to check how many packets are
unacked when you pause a stream and if you keep stream paused for over 3
minutes (typical TCP timeout) does it reset.

The other registry based tweaks contain an exact copy of the vista
defaults (I even double checked before applying them; hence, it has an
option to put the default registry settings back.

I just thought Id mentioned these two tweaks in case something stood
out to you very obviously (after taking a quick look at what they do).
They are two of the most popular TCP/IP mods which many people use...
which didnt affect me when I used squeezecenter 7.2.1 and earlier (with
respective backend).

Maybe just a couple of minutes of your time might be all it takes to
see soemthing that looks very bad. If nothing looks obvious, no
worries. I didnt think it would hurt to ask.

bpa;515358 Wrote:

these tweaks - the method to undo the changes is often flawed and
unless you have your initial registry settings you cannot be sure that
things have been reset. With XP I found some parameters behaved
different if they were deleted compared to their default value.

I don't know what the Half-open_limit_fix_3.1.rar does since it is a

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2010-01-29 Thread mkanet

I have several uPNP software (not related to Squeezebox/Softsqueeze)
running on the same machine (ie hulu based server/client, trillian,
etc); UPNP is enable on all devices (server and clients); including my
router.

Maybe I didnt understand you right, but are you saying that
Squeezebox/Softsqueeze use port 9000 via UPNP to communicate? I'm
guessing you didnt mean all upnp devices under the sun use port 9000. :)
I know that in the past, I have always used port 9000 for
SqueezeServer, SqueezeCenter, SqueezeBox to talk to Softsqueeze using
the traditional method to communicate along with port 3483.

Please correct me if I'm wrong (or help clarify), when UPNP on
Squeezebox is enabled... both squeezebox/softsqueeze are smart enough to
switch from using a proprietary, explicitly defined ports 9000/3483 and
instead, let UPNP to define port 9000 (telling the softsqueeze.jar based
clients to use port 9000 via UPNP)? Is port 3483 no longer needed when
using UPNP; or, does that still required and proprietary/explicitly
defined for the squeeze protocol?

Thanks!

bpa;511597 Wrote:
uPNP is just a protocol which by default uses port 9000. Itis used by
many devices including routers etc. One application is media streaming.
Softsqueeze will use its protocol on port 9000 by default.

I don't know where you are disabling uPNP - router, PC, a NAS client -
but it is possible that disabling uPNP also disables port 9000 or it
enabled a dummy client on port 9000 to refuse connections.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-12-22 Thread mkanet

In finally figured out why I was getting all those weird Internet audio
issues with duplicate logins in other places. I had to enable uPNP on
both my router and also the Windows based service. Everything works
great for me; even on multiple clients.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-12-08 Thread mkanet

I can confirm that 3.9 works very well. Except, I still have an issue
with sometimes Sirius Radio, Slacker will stop streaming audio and give
the error that I'm logged in somewhere else. I have to press Play to
start the audio stream again. This started happening after I upgraded
to Squeezebox Server. I dont know if this is a reproducible issue or
not. This seems to happen even when I have one player defined under in
http://www.mysqueezebox.com.

I probably wont get a response, but is there anyone here at all that
uses softsqueeze for Internet Radio? I'm curious to know if anyone is
having the issue I described above; and, if there's a way to fix that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-11-19 Thread mkanet

I have to admit, BPA left this in a very good state. Everything still
works even with the latest big upgrade to the server side. I was scared
upgrading to Squeezebox Server would at least break something. I'm just
hoping BPA will have the time to polish off the 3.9 release and make it
a full certified release available on Sourceforge as a non-beta.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-11-18 Thread mkanet

It looks like the file was removed. It's possible that he's about to
release a Softsqueeze 4.0 with new features?

I did a search on google for softsqueeze 3.9 and softsqueeze 4.0, but
didnt find anything except for this thread pointing to the the dead
link. If I'm not mistaken, version 3.9 has some critical Internet
related bug fixes thats not available in 3.8 (available on
sourceforge).

I am hoping that the issues I mentioned above are something simple that
I can fix on my end. I have a feeling its because I have more than one
client; and, its possible that I might have the same mac address for
both clients.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-11-13 Thread mkanet

Hi BPA, the reason, its been so quiet on this thread is because everyone
has been very happy with all your fixes. However, there is a new
problem which happens pretty frequently ever since I upgraded to
SqueezeBox Server 7.4. Every 4-10 minutes or so, I keep getting the two
below error messages in both Sirius or Slacker. I an curious what could
cause this if there definitely isn't someone who actually logs in on
another device using my accounts. In order to recover from it all I
have to do is press Play again. However, it can get a bit annoying
after a while. Is there anything I can try to avoid this? Is there
anything that you can do to prevent this from happening or recover from
it? Is there anything I can do specifically to see where it thinks I'm
logging in from? Have you ever heard of these issues?

You are not authorized=Sirius You are logged in in another
location=Slacker

This has happened on previous versions of the server, but it seems to
happen more frequently on 7.4/

Thanks so much,
MKANET

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-07-31 Thread mkanet

BPA, I'm surprised you're not tempted to do what most technically
inclined people do in non-US countries; at least for testing
purposes... using US-based Internet proxy.

Anyway, sorry to ask another Internet radio question; but do you have
any idea why I sometimes get the below message while listening to Sirius
Radio; and, if there's a way for you to add code to softsqueeze to
quietly recover from the below bogus error message:

STOPPED
Stream stopped, you are no longer authorized to listen.

I've been just shrugging it off by selecting to play the Sirius radio
station again.  It seems like its just a fake/benign error message;
although, annoying.

bpa;444264 Wrote:
I can't help much on the various services such as Sirius, Pandora,
Deezer etc. since I am not in a country where they are

For Softsqueeze the proxied settings seemed to work for most
 services.

Your problem seems to be a standard facility using a hardware player -
so my guess it is a setup issue so check all SBR functionality and see
if anything else is broken such as Internet Radio, Pandora, Napster etc.

If only Sirius is broken then concentrate on SN and Sirius credentials
on SC and then Sirius credentials on SN - make sure they are all entered
correctly and there is no mismatch. You could enable logging by setting
WebUI Setting/Advanced/Logging/ plugin.sirius to DEBUG and then test
Sirius use and then check server.log.

I find that Windows implements some agressive caching and can fgeed
Old data to SC even through files or URLs have changed. So I find
before testing anything on Windows - I turn off Windows systems, reboot
all network equipment (e.g. router, modem) and then start Windows. I
believe Windows caching is to blame when users note that a broken system
suddenly starts working the next day - the cached info expires after a
 long period of no use.

I dont have a hardware player, but I will try it on SqueezePlay (I

happen when using the sirius radio player from the sirius website.

I searched the SC forum prior to posting here, and all I could find was

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-07-22 Thread mkanet

Thanks for the update BPA. There is only one minor issue. Perhaps I'm
doing something wrong? With Napster, if I navigate to the genre/radio
station/song and push PLAY on softsqueeze, it looks like its about to
play, but then it says, Invalid Credentials. I have already checked
multiple times in my squeezenetwork account; and did confirm I'm using
the correct username/password; in fact, if I enter the wrong username or
password in squeezenetwork for Napster, it knows immnediately; and,
doesnt save the account. So, even if I have the correct premium account
saved in squeezenetwork, softsqueeze will still say invalid
credentials.

I haven't tried this with squeezeplay yet. That's my next test. As I
said, this is a relatively minor issue; but, thought I'd mention it
since you asked.

Anyway, thanks for all your effort with softsqueeze while juggling all
the other plugins!!

At present I have the following 3 areas to look at
 * Headless operation - Softsqueeze fails to run headless if there is no
 X-server
 * possible sync. bug which seems to be prevalent when using non MP3
 formats.
 * possible Pause/play issue.

I get to do some work SoftSqueeze but have had to back to plugins /
AlienBBC as there have been (and will be more) API changes in
7.4noweb-sqllite branch and BBC updates. Both of these issues require
immediate attention as they break the plugins for users.

Maybe.. but with the other bug (at least for me) the songs would also
flip-flop back and forth in a strange mix; and, required multiple key

It might have been necessary to ensure playing as there are security
issues (e.g. geo IP blocking) when using Pandora on SN - as the
geographical location of player would not be the same as SN.

The setting makes sense as web proxying avoids the SB player doing the
direct connection but it implies an SC server and SC is basically the
same mechanism used when playing Pandora on synced players. I think the
Geo IP blocking would be done on the location of SC server.

By all stations - does that include Sirius ?

BPA, you wont believe this... after all this testing, reinstalling,
upgrading and downgrading of SC, etc.. thinking there is something
wrong with softsqueeze..

Any version after SC 7.2.1, if you change the SC setting for
player/audio/mp3 streaming method=proxied streaming instead of direct
streaming, all radio stations works perfectly again.

I'm not sure what changed in SC to cause this setting required to be
changed; but, there's a very easy solution to make all radio stations
work again.

I have had to change to proxied streaming in the past; but only under
unusual circumstances such as tunneling softsqueze through SSH.

Sorry for all the trouble. Glad to know everything still works; and,
more than likely to work for a while; as long as people are still using
SB2 devices.

I am in a position to test but now Sirius has changed their access
policies and so I cannot test.

I cannot access Slacker or Pandora so I cannot test any problems
relating to them. However Slacker is MP3 so there should be no
connection with the WMA issue of Sirius and behaviour of 3.7 would be
the same as 3.9. I don't know what format Pandora uses.

Since all these services are subscriber ones with special SC plugins
which access the service through SN. I think the issue is not
Softsqueeze but SC/SN - perhaps Sqosftsqueeze users are not meant to use
 them.

I presume you have all you necessary Squeezenetwork accounts setup and
have subscribed to Slacker and Pandora. If so then make a log of trying
to play a single Slacker statiosn with player.source set to DEBUG and
network.protocol.slimproto set to DEBUG with only a single Softsqueeze
 running.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-06-18 Thread mkanet

I made a typing mistake in my post from a couple of days ago saying, Hi
BPA, any movement now? It would be great to get slacker and pandora
working everyone using softsqueeze.

What I meant to say was Sirius and pandora. I think slacker works
correctly (at least the last time I checked). I could be wrong, but it
looks like sirius might still have some kind of wma conversion issue.
Pandora's issue might be different. It just wont connect at all to the
pandora service.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do on my end besides
providing the logs you asked for for sirius and pandora.

Great, I'm glad at least you have the logs (posted earlier). Last I
checked, Pandora used regular mp3s (I was able to save the mp3 files in
my temp directory). Yes, I have a Pandora account. I am using
softsqueeze to play both sirius radio and pandora over SC. However, the
latest known version of SC that supports sirius and pandora is SC
version 7.2.1.

I'll try Squeezeslave after I get home from work and report back.

bpa;433202 Wrote:

What format does Pandora use ? Have you got an account set up for
Pandora ? What are you currently using to play Pandora over SC ?

Can you also test Squeezeslave on Pandora and Sirius as another check
to see if it is an SC issue.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-06-18 Thread mkanet

Here is what I did. I haven't gotten a chance to try Squeezeslave yet
as it was getting too late... Here's a log of all the events and see the
attached respective debug log you asked for:

9:23:30pm - Select Sirius - Howard 100 radio station and I press
Play.. I see, Now playing on display. But counter is stucked at
00:00; although I can see the counter moving forward in SC Web
interface.

9:27:00pm - Select Sirius - Backspin radio station and I press Play
(same as above on display)

9:31:00pm - Select Pandora - Ready Steady Go Radio and I press Play
(On display after one second of trying to connect, Problem: Can't
connect to server for: Pandora - Ready Steady Go Radio. I don't see a
command window open up this time like the way it does when debugging is
on for Sirius radio playback. Counter isn't moving forward for both the
display or the SC Web interface.

9:36:00pm - Select Pandora - Delerium Radio and I press Play (Same as
above)

9:47:30pm Stopped Softsqueeze

9:48:10pm stopped SC

Note: I might have messed up on this (it was getting late at night):
I upgraded to SC version 7.3.3 from 7.2.1 (which had the Softsqueeze 3.9
files in the default directory of SC and the verion 3.9 files might have
been overwritten during the upgrade to the older softsqueeze 3.7
files... not sure if the SC upgrade is smart enough to leave newer files
alone. However, the results were the same anyway when I was certain I
was using softsqueeze 3.9 when I tested a while back.

bpa;433306 Wrote:
I think there are two problems but I can't be sure as the Pandora log
did not record all the requested message.

So a log is needed with
 * player.source set to DEBUG
 and
 * network.protocol.slimproto set to DEBUG

Also don't cut the logs off - wait at least 2 mins after pressing play.
Do not try to play the same station/program more than once as SC caches
 failed attempts.

Sirus Radio doesnt have anything to do with ED. The issues I'm
reporting is not just my problem. Its with the current Softsqueeze and
it's compatibility with the current SC. It most likely affects anyone
who tries it. Sirius Radio works by disabling wmp-non-mp3 file types.

Pandora is also broken (Complete information given in previous posts).

bpa;419375 Wrote:

WRT to the Sirius issue - I don't deny you have a problem but since I
can't use Sirius it is not obvious from the logs what is the problem -
at a guess it is a slimproto issue due to timing. I am working on
other things at the moment and will get to the Sirius issue in due
 course.

Hi,

This version doesnt seem to fix Sirius radio audio playback. I just
upgraded from SqueezeCenter 7.2 (which Sirius Radio was working fine)
to the latest Squeeze Center 7.3.3, and now Sirius audio cannot be
heard after connects and buffers. I tried the old trick of changing
the file type of WMA to disable, but that caused a problem another
problem.

Anyway, I know there's a fix for this already in Bugzilla, however, I'm
hoping the next build of Softsqueeze will include this fix (since it
includes all the other fixes).

Will the next build of Softsqueeze 3.9 beta be announced in this thread
or a separate thread under 3rd Party Plugins?

Thanks for all your effort!

It's not a dumb question, since most people dont know the advantages of
softsuqeeze... but using a softqueeze allows for flexibility,
functionality, and general aesthetics in the user interface, speaker
settings, and other automation not possible by any hardware that is
offered by Slim Devices/logitech.

For example, with my softsqueeze-powered setup, in the mornings while
getting ready for work, my PM automatically switches to my high-end
bluetooth speakers near my bathroom/bedroom, then switches back to the
default home theater speakers.

Another example, I have integrated softsqueeze based technology into my
home theater setup which offers a far better experience in user
interface navigation, flexibility, and general aesthetics that aren't
offered by Slim Devices/logitech... the picture comparison below should
explain better:

Nonreality;345124 Wrote:
This may be a dumb question, but why do you need it to work on
Softsqueeze? It's really not your problem is it? The need is it to

use the other stuff. Maybe I'm missing something here with the people
 that complain to you.

My last question is a bit off topic, but I know there are a lot of

I could be wrong, but there currently is no good way to have Now

information being sent to LastFM AudioScrobbler to be sent to chat

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Are you willing to pay for a Sirius Radio plug-in?

2008-03-11 Thread mkanet

I have the same exact configuration as before both on the server side
and the client using softsqueeze with latest software (using
SqueezeCenter 7). I can playback all different kinds of audio files,
and other plugins.

However, with this plugin, I can navigate through the menus... and it
says... connecting... buffering... after buffering is finished it
displays the artist and song.. I can even see the data being transfered
via window task manager. However, there's no audio.

The only way I can trick this plugin so I can hear the sound... is
start streaming of a Sirius Radio channel... then go and try to play a
song in my music folder... this will cause the sirius audio to be
heard.

Hopefully, these clues and with the help of the creator of this awesome
plugin, we can get it working...

I know I'm going to be asked to provide some kind of log files... but
before then, I just want to get the attention of the person who made
this plugin... I really dont want to have to revert back to the old
slimserver version and respective sirius plugin.

Can you please tell me how to get the correct logfile for softsqeeze?

I dont have any issues with this plugin on the same machine as my
SqueezeCenter machine.

I really hope there's a possibility of getting this resolved soon.. I
use this plugin at lot at work... used to anyway.

Sincerely,
Michael

Keep up the good work.

Dogstar is probably the best. I really should update the plugin to make

 to get overloaded ;)

BTW- nice set up there with SageTV. I'm curious though how it's able
to show the song channel as well as the song info.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Are you willing to pay for a Sirius Radio plug-in?

2007-12-25 Thread mkanet

I use a Slimserver client (SageTV's Slim Player), which is capable of
showing artist, biography, Song Title and name. Which one of the three
databases do you guys use?  I noticed the default often stops updating;
and, kind of unreliable (itsonsirus.com). The second one is even more
unreliable (itson.siriusbackstage.com). I just recently switched to
dogstarradio.com; and, it seems to work the best.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sirius and FLAC audio over SSH... STUTTERING AUDIO!!

2007-12-01 Thread mkanet

okay, I copied the lame dll file in the bin subdirectory. Now what?

1) Do I need to register it as a directshow filter?
2) Do I need to configure slimserver to accept this encoder or choose
this encoder instead of what it's doing?
3) Where do I specify the bit rate limit exactly?
4) At what point can I go to my softsqueeze player and play flac/sirius
radio at a prespecified bit rate?

Thanks,
Michael

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sirius and FLAC audio over SSH... STUTTERING AUDIO!!

2007-12-01 Thread mkanet

These are perfect instructions! Thanks! I wont be able to test this
until Im on the other end of my ssh tunnel :)

Thanks,
Michael

Nikhil;246508 Wrote:
The way I have it on windows is that there is a folder called
MSWin32-x86-multi-thread within the Bin subdirectory. This should
contain a number of windows executables including flac.exe. To this I
added the lame binary - lame.exe . There was no need to register it as
 a directshow filter.

In the slimserver web interface, go to server settings. Select 'File
types' and under FILE FORMAT CONVERSION SETUP make sure the line
which says File Format - Flac and Stream Format - mp3 is selected. Save
 this.

Connect to SlimServer with Softsqueeze. Then go back to the web
interface. Under Settings, click on player settings for your
SoftSqueeze player (it might be listed by MAC or IP addresses). In the
pulldown menu, select the Audio option. After that you should see LAME
Quality Level, and Bitrate Limiting. Set those to what suits your
requirements. Hit save, and you should be good to go.

I thought that ALL audio gets transcoded to the bandwidth the client is
capable of!?

If not, how do I get all audio to be automatically transcoded to
available bandwidth?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Sirius and FLAC audio over SSH... STUTTERING AUDIO!!

2007-11-28 Thread mkanet

Can someone please confirm that the Sirius Radio plugin at high quality
and FLAC audio files will stutter over an SSH tunnel (DSL speed). Is
there a way to fix this problem?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Are you willing to pay for a Sirius Radio plug-in?

2007-09-07 Thread mkanet

Hi Greg, you might have missed this in my post, but I dont have any
issues playing back my mp3's and wma files with much, much greater
bandwidth via the same conditions (Slimserver, SSH, Softsqueeze).
However, I noticed that if I play FLAC audio it has the same problem.

I already tried manually limited the bandwidth in Slimserver (even
really low), but it didnt make a difference.

There seems to be some kind of bug. However, I'm not sure if its in
Slimserver or the Sirius plugin.

GoCubs;225415 Wrote:
I'm thinking it must be a bandwidth/SSH issue. The plugin basically
simulates a user logging in, selecting a stream, and getting a URL for
that stream. That URL is then handed over to the player or SlimServer
(depending on your configuration) to stream. SlimServer then handles
the stream the way it handles any other stream. If stuttering is
taking place its probably your connection not being fast enough or
maybe the SSH processing is slowing things down.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Are you willing to pay for a Sirius Radio plug-in?

2007-08-31 Thread mkanet

Currently, I have no issues with streaming any kind of audio via SSH
using Slimserver/softsqueeze. However, this is the only audio plugin
that will stutter continuously.

I have more than enough bandwidth. Changing network buffer settings
for slimserver has no affect. The sirius plugin works fine locally on
the machine.

This should easily be reproduced via SSH. Sirius plugin with high
quality audio on a fast Internet connection. Is there a way to get
this fixed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Are you willing to pay for a Sirius Radio plug-in?

2007-02-05 Thread mkanet

For the past couple of weeks, the audio pauses so much sometimes its not
even worth listening to. I've tried messing with the buffer size and
time out; but, it doesn't fix the problem. I have a 6mbps downstream
connection to the Internet.

Does everyone have this problem who has high quality audio lately? I
tried to send a message to customer care for sirius radio, but they
seem to be dumb as dirt and can't get a straight answer.

What are the optimal buffer and timeout settings for high quality
audio? Is there anything that can be done to make it work correctly?

Thanks in advance,
Michael
