Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
Separating the channels did not help What did work for me: disabling ax radio on 2.4channel. So only a,g,b,n This seems to work, a couple days stable. Previously was using the vonnets Ethernet adapter, which worked for months, but the radio just started to become unstable and needs a reboot after a day or so bengaldave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4605 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
Hi there, A few weeks ago I activated the 5 GHz. network with an SSID identical to the 2,4 GHz. I was already using for my Squeezebox receivers.(same passwords also) I own 4 Logitech (WE) Radios and a Transporter. The Transporter seems to ignore double SSID but the (WE) Radios get confused after a while and disconnects. Renamed one of them (did not change the identical passwords) and presto ! problem solved. Hope this helps for you. Best regards and a happy and healthy 2023 ! My guess if it is more modern equipment, it is an automatic feature, which means it is constantly querying the clients. And that data string can get somewhat verbose to older clients. And that is probably part of the problem for older legacy clients, possibly overloading their buffer ranges at some point. The older 2.4 Ghz chipsets never contemplated this sort of network management traffic. But it does state that it can be client-customized. So the obvious course is to turn it off for SB clients, as they are not 5 Ghz equipped. Whether that stops the constant client queries, I do not know. That would require technical information from the AP/router manufacturer. That feature is not the same as AP binding, but it may help nevertheless. The less asked of the Radio's wireless chipset, the better. sgmlaw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13995 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
This is what Ubiquiti say: -"The main purpose of enabling band steering is to decongest the 2.4GHz due to the high number of users connected. Band steering allows users to connect to a 5GHz band which provides faster speed, and less interference, thus reducing the congestion on the 2.4 GHz. However, 5GHz only works on a limited range compared to 2.4 GHz. It cannot penetrate solid objects such as walls. Therefore, the signal wouldnt be that reliable when you are roaming. Enabling or disabling band steering on your UniFi depends on the users preference and the need to steer into a 5GHz band. It would make more sense to stay on 2.4 GHz if there are only a few users connected to your network. Although there would be more interference than the 5GHz band, it provides better coverage. Band steering is not always recommended. Users can always customize band steering per device name depending on need.""- Lounge: Transporter>Audio Synthesis DAX Decade>Audio Research LS22>Krell FPB300>Wilson Benesch Act 1's + 2 x Velodyne SPL1000 sub's Kitchen: Touch>Topping DAC>Arcam Solo>Anthony Gallo Micro's+Sub, Joggler controller Office: DAC32>Acoustic Energy AE1 Active's, Joggler controller Garage: Boom>QAcoustics 7000s subwoofer Bedroom: Radio Shed: Radio Workshop: Boom Garden 1: SB3>JVC amp>Rock outdoor speakers Garden 2: SB3>JVC amp>Rock outdoor speakers Heuer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2543 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I presume by band steering they are referring to auto-switching between 2.4G and 5Ghz bands depending on connection conditions. If that is the case, disabling band steering tends to adversely affect newer clients, preventing them from negotiating up and down on the bands as they roam. It may help an old Squeezebox, but at a very high price to other much higher bandwidth demanding clients. I would resist that solution if you have such mixed clients. In your situation, if binding is not as option, you might want to try an N band AP set up in repeater mode, but with a distinctive SSID. For instance, the EX2700 mentioned above, connected to your network (either wirelessly, or by Ethernet), and accessible as a separate AP as yournetwork.LMS or whatever. And then have the Radio connect just to that N protocol AP. That is binding of a different form, but it completely segregates the Radio from the primary wireless AP architecture (and all its problems). These SB clients use very little bandwidth by todays standards, so even an N repeater with wireless up and down links should still get plenty of data to them. sgmlaw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13995 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

agbagb wrote: > That's interesting - I'm not sure of correct terminology, but are you > saying that getting the router to use a static IP (instead of an > DHCP-allocated and changing one) has enabled a steady Radio > connection even on WiFi6 kit? No, not exactly. While I am a proponent of assigning a static IP to the LMS server machine, what I was referring to was binding a wireless client to a particular AP in extender, media bridge, roaming or mesh environments. What we initially experienced, not just with the SB Radio, but with other legacy 2.4 Ghz clients as well, is that the connection would drop, either on the initial optimization phase, when the system assigns each client to its optimal AP, and during the handoff phase, when a system transfers a client from one AP or node to another. Either the AP and/or the client chipsets cant handle that handshake routine, either initially or on renegotiation, and the connection would drop. What I found solved the problem (for us) in these multi AP environments was binding those clients to the main wireless router. That is done on the AP side, at the router or DHCP server, and it forces a continuing static connection to that AP, and that AP alone, with no roaming, handoff, or renegotiation events, and the backhaul and repeater links are also completely removed from the equation. Ideally, the client should be bound to the router AP if the router is equipped with one. It is a much simpler connection in more complicated wireless environments (with increasingly diverse traffic). Not all roaming, extender-equipped, and mesh equipment supports wireless client binding. And if you are already running a single AP wireless network, it is inapplicable. And we were unable to pull this off for one fringe range Touch where binding to the router AP was impractical, and even a bound connection to the nearest node would inevitably drop. In that extreme situation, the solution was an EX2700 extender operating as a media bridge, where the Touch enjoys an ethernet connection, and the wireless network sees only an N protocol client (which presents no problem). sgmlaw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13995 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Similar problems in new home with new WiFi6. But I can't find anything called "band steering" in the router management, but what with moving and Madame preparing for knee surgery, I haven't really had a chance to see if this exists. Even with WiFi6 turned off, the Radios (Wlan-poked) will not hold the connection, so maybe it is a band issue rather than a WiFi6 issue as such. The other thing that has me puzzled is that when I first try to connect either Radios or Touches *via ethernet*, I still have a heck of a time. I keep getting a "Can't find a DHCP address" error. But, oddly, if I just leave it plugged in to ethernet and walk off for lunch or more unpacking of moving boxes, after half an hour or so, the device *has* connected to ethernet, and works fine from then on. Asus "Smart Connect" seems to be a load management by the router to spread devices across 3 bands (2.4Ghz and 2 5Ghz) all sharing same SSID. IIRC Some user reported problems with some dual/tri band routers if 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks had same SSID. Wifi 6 (aka 802.11ax) compatible routers also implement a lot of previous standards/features which may still be a separate setting in router. Logitech Squeezebox are old so do NOT support or can have problems with: * 20MHz/40MHz - aka Channel Bonding. Only 20MHz will work. * AP Roaming aka 802.11r (maybe also 802.1k & 802.11v) * "better" WLAN performance by changing RTS and CTS timing. A while ago (maybe no longer an issue), some router power saving measures when router thinks devices as idle can cause devices to disconnect. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
Just an update - so, it was (easily, if a tad hidden in the Menus) possible to disable WiFi6 / 802.11ax, and everything (including the old laptop) works fine. The family have had enough of my "messing about" for the moment, but a tad later I'll try re-enabling WiFi6, and see if the kit "holds" its now-established connection or cuts out. Back in the day, I did have some kit in the system that would not do a first connection if 5Ghz was enabled along with 2.4Ghz at the router, but would hold its 2.4Ghz connections when 5Ghz was re-enabled. So I'm wondering if WiFi5 and 6 may have a similar quirk, at least on this router? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
Moving apartment here in Paris, I thought I'd ordered new ISP equipment that would avoid the WiFi6 / Mesh issue, by ordering the Freebox Pop When it arrived, there was a glossy note congratulating me on being one the first customers to receive (at no extra charge.) the shiny new WiFi6 / Mesh enabled, upgraded Pop Server. Damn. The Touches seem fine (havn't tried the SqueezeAmps yet), but the Radios not - they'll find the SSID but after a while of trying to connect, tell me they cannot obtain a DHCP connection. A first fiddle with the router configuration doesn't show any way of disabling WiFi6 (which I would happily do), but I was a bit rushed when I gave that a try - so, to be re-visited. Luckily, the kit includes a WiFi repeater, which has LAN out to - and the physical configuration of the space means that the bedside Radio can use ethernet quite happily. So probably I'll be OK. Annoying though.. An oddity - I fired up a 10-year-old Lenovo laptop to use in the new place until I've fully moved out of the old one. That can't even see the new SSID, nevermind try and connect to it. Very odd. Probably I'm doing something dumb in that instance. 8.2.1 - 1639114554 Win11 Control: Web GUI; MaterialSkin on Android phones / pads Machines / devices are in France, in two locations. a) Livebox 6 Internal HDD (FLAC music; mp3 voice), LAN Desktop 3 x Touch - 1 wireless, 2 LAN. Is channel optimisation needed for fast roaming? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
Problem started with a new router and 3 smartwifipods. Together they make a mesh network. Channel optimization is necessary for this network. When I switch back to my former configuration with two old school AP's connected to the new router the connection problems are over. I am glad to hear you are around and doing well Phil. While there are several work arounds that people are happy with (discussed here and other threads), there has not, to date, been a magic wand for the radios. Why not try one? wlanpoke, wifi dongles, powerline adaptors, etc, etc. I can't recall off the top of my head all you tried so far. I do remember that some of your radios are stationary, those would be the easiest to use something like an adaptor. For alternating current there is the hot wire and the neutral. In the US the black wire is the hot and the white is the neutral. The neutral wires would all be connected at the circuit breaker panel. Whereas in your diagram Line 1 and Line 2 connect the transformer. This is why the power line device might not work connected across line1 and line2 because the transformer will alter the voltage. However, if two separate circuits in the house both use line1, then the signal does not have to move across the transformer. It just occurred to me that if these power line devices use the neutral wire then the problem of going across line1 and line2 is eliminated because all the neutral wires connect at the panel and should not be impacted by the transformer. For full disclosure, I am not an electrician but I work in the electric utility business and I have done electrical wiring repairs at my house. All this chatter on different voltage feeds/circuits is irrelevant to the OP (tswright), being in Australia he will have a single phase supply to his home... 220/230/240v - one live wire supplied to premises, I think it's only North America that uses the 120v/240v split-phase system. To add a bit more info, the typical circuit breaker has two rails, one for each of the two hot 120v feeds. The electrian will balance the load in the home between the two rails (120v feeds). There is also a skinny breaker which will feed two circuits from the same rail. If you look at a 240 v circuit it will have a little bridge that connects them together. Thus it is not very easy to determine the power line ethernet adpater is on the same hot feed. H, I wonder channel optimization can be turned off? Frankly, I am REALLY tired of this wifi issue. I have wlanpoke working on the two SB radios I have. While it does help, I do miss parts of the news broadcast when the disconnect happens. It is VERY annoying to have it happen right in the middle of an important news article on NPR.:mad: I am ready to make a wifi SSID ONLY for these two SB radios... on my Ruckus R550 access point, with all the fancy stuff turned off and then see if they stay stable. If that also does not work, I am going to try adding my old router back to our home network JUST to feed these two SB radios (but that router always disconnects the radios when the kitchen Microwave runs) Nomen Nescio wrote: > Same problem overhere in the Netherlands with smartwifi pods. Here in the US (similar in Europe?), our power comes in as a "split phase" with 2 hots (legs/lines), a neutral, and a ground. It's 240vac single phase between the two hots, and two 120vac circuits are formed between each hot and neutral. What they mean is the two powerline devices should be on the same "leg/line group" 38858 In our circuit breaker panel, we have two columns of breakers, A (odd) on the left, and B (even) on the right. Each side is the same leg. So, what the powerline adaptors want is the same leg at a minimum, but circuit (breaker) is ideal. If you think about it, the Ethernet is a modulated signal on a 120vac carrier. It has to travel a distance, and going from one adaptor, through a breaker, back to the panel bus, then back out through another breaker, to the other adaptor. That is not "ideal" but if distances are reasonable, it should work. However, it is is being asked to go back to the panel and over to the other leg/line (through the transformer??) that's what probably won't work. So, identify the breaker(s) for the two outlets to be used and see if the breakers are on the same "side" As an aside, I think these things are real cool and solve allot of people's issues Jim +---+ |Filename: split phase.gif | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38858| +---+ Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Based on your advice I think the simplest solution is that as the office/study equipment works with wireless signals direct from the router, I can use a powerline adaptor at the router and powerline adaptors with wifi access in the distant bedrooms for tablets and kindles. I have 2 x Nettcom NP505F powerline adaptors but I understand the equivalent with wfi access is discontinued. Any suggestions as to what I should get? Do the adaptors all have to be the same type/brand? Yeah sure - that's why I didn't dismiss it as an option - I did do a quick search and read to confirm the different circuit issue, perhaps the newer Homeplug AV2 protocol is less sensitive to this, but certainly it is often mentioned not to use them on different circuits. Further searching just now found... Don't, do, do but expect a performance drop, do but it may not work, so I guess as you say it would be a case of try and see. I'm no expert on this, but I can say my radio connected to a netgear ethernet over powerline works flawlessly. The units are maybe 5 or 6 years old. Also, by circuit, if you mean the outlets are on the same circuit breaker, at least in my case this is not required. My ethernet power unit is plugged into an entirely different circuit than the ethernet power unit near the radio. I think the way your house is wired does have something to do with all this. But certainly worth trying. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
tsrwright wrote: > Only in three permanent places. OK Thanks, In that case, as Gary says you could use powerline adapters, personally I'm not a fan of those but that's based on products from many years back, but I'm sure they have improved considerably since I tried them. All the outlets would need to be on the same power circuit - your fuse box should help indicate if this is possible. Using my house as an example, I have 3 fuses/circuit breakers for mains outlets: a downstairs circuit, an upstairs circuit and a kitchen circuit. In my case a powerline adapter wouldn't work well (if at all), my router is upstairs so the first powerline would be plugged into the upstairs circuit and if I was trying to extend the network for my kitchen SB Radio the second paired powerline would be plugged into the kitchen mains circuit - so no joy for me on that setup. If that's not an issue you would need 4 powerline adapters and a spare ethernet port on your router. One powerline plugged in near the router and the other three plugged in near each SB Radio. Each powerline adapter plugs into the mains and is connected to you router and SB Radios via ethernet cables. (please note, there are other possible configurations, but at this stage I'm trying to keep things simple) Your next option would be to use a mini wifi bridge/router such as these: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291535330636?epid=4032160074=item43e0dc1d4c:g:JEkAAOSwaT1gf3g0=enc%3AAQAH4PFxoQSZW1nco5tyqWWnR%2Bsb77CUcq%2BkGCSbqySGo4bBBmBkxvBUIImD6ctJLiZtLKyRxVPyYN6IvNYYndjHOjSxgPzKDykmQYy2jkqYHZ2s28Bwtmnc5zvKG3k4QAs%2Br4ybuQT3za5oFFy1iuqRmToeoPD4No9zwY3UkzC5t167OAEDPA%2ByVuC7VD0h4MiMQsKd47O8OttJmDuRed5M4YEIY0lAgdtvJxiwqqKwtV4BA3DvIXZUtzP46U8j2DgUoNRH94PUdpLOVy2sQwa002W1nxc0xXbsyS%2F3nTEWPQNb%7Ctkp%3ABFBMnJyX1Pdg or https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165621085795?hash=item268fc93663:g:TdUAAOSwLX5i8744=enc%3AAQAHkHIaRpn6OkF%2FR%2FEdI1hBZDGU1bUBS5oZXE163PA3lK0vmugPNUTrCkd2gXY3%2FV8FV6%2B9ZeLKdnkIIdEdkk4Znxy3vI8nnt3gUe2xLaq3VNxRmNfxxkhxDyqitoDh5oJ2qCwLF9AEGWJtiGqDDgSRlt6EvyLa%2FU5kRl%2BZJ%2BFVuWOUTtpN6xpAe%2Bhq09aK1%2FLStg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_rMm9T3YA So the essence of these devices are they wirelessly connect (hopefully reliably) to your new 'smart wifi booster' but connect to the SB radio over a network cable/ethernet thus bypassing the problematic inbuilt wireless of the Radio. You would need 3 of these, one for each radio. The Vonets have built in network cable and users on this site often power them from the SB Radio PSU, but then they need to be located close to the player itself The TP-Link ones would need an additional usb 5v 1a psu and usb cable (I have loads of these kicking around because they typically come with phones, tablets, Kindles etc etc) and some network leads, but that does mean you can use a longer network lead and just run that to the radio from where-ever you place the mini wifi bridge. There's a small amount of configuration to be done on the mini wifi bridge to set it into the correct mode and enter the wifi credentials to connect to your 'smart wifi booster' followed by reconfiguring the SB Radio to use ethernet rather than wifi. If you go down either route, there's plenty of people here who can help you get setup once we know which product you've gone for. Pair of powerline adapters. Connect one via Ethernet to your router and the other (with WiFi access point built in not all do) in a weak WiFi area. Set this new WAP to same SSID, Auth type and passphrase as your main one and you should find that things connect to it seamlessly. Sometimes it does not work well when you walk between the areas with WiFi connected because the device tries to keep connected to the AP it was on before . but if that happens then WiFi on/off on the device usually resolves it. If you heave Ethernet access newer the WiFi dead zone then a standalone WiFi access point can work but then you have to remember to turn off DHCP on it. I have just installed a (Telstra) 'Smart WiFi Booster' to replace an old device that wasn't reliably serving one end of the house. Seemingly at this point all three of my Squeezeboxes started to drop out after the same period of about 5 minutes working fine. Rebooting the SB restarts the connections ok - for five minutes. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
Hi folks, I know this is a long thread but wanted to share my experiences with my SB Radio losing wifi connection. I tried everything in this thread: edit the WLAN file, moving to a dedicated 2.4 G network, turning off beam forming on my mesh, even the faraday cage nothing worked until I did something a few days out of pure chance. My home network setup is very simple and newbie alert I dont know much about home networking so apologies in advance if I say anything dumb. I have a modem/router on my Cable provider (I live in Canada), but a year ago I purchased a TP-Link Mesh system with 3 Access Point Pucks that I have placed around the house. The TP-Link is wired to the Router and I have set it up in Router Model and not AP mode. So basically my Modem/Router is really a pass through to my mesh. All of my devices are on the mesh network. On the SB side my LMS is running on my QNAP NAS (wired) my Touch is Wired and my Boom and Radio are Wireless (both on the 2.4 band of the mesh). The Radio would connect then drop after a few hours like everyone else was experiencing. I was recently reading up on how to setup a VPN server on my NAS so I could connect to my home network from outside the house and I learned all about Port Forwarding (which I need to setup both on the main Router and my TP-Link). I never knew what a Port Forward was until I started reading up on this. When I opened up my Admin page for the modem/router (not the mesh the TP link has such a basic config options, more on that at another time) I see several pages of Port Forwards that were setup, none of which were added by me. I imagine there were apps that were adding Port Forwards to my router without my knowledge. So I started removing all of the port forwards that were not forwarding to my mesh network (I left those since I was not sure if they were still needed). After removing all of these forward rules my SB Radio no longer drops the wifi connection, it has now been stable for several days. I dont think I understand how a port forward on my router can have this impact but I wanted to share my experiences in case it can help anyone else. Apologies for the long post! I am wondering if others out there with problems in this thread (hello?!) might try sync. What's weird is in my experience if one player (in my case a receiver) struggled, all others synced struggled as well (rebuffering, then back, repeat cycle). So, sync made it worse. I am also not sure of the exact mechanism that LMS uses in sync that is not present in a normal stream. Maybe one of the devs might be able to shed some insight. If curious maybe you could try both internet streams and your own library, and also a different type of player (if you have one, or use something like squeezelite-X if you have a PC) as the sync healer. Good thing you didn't spend your time wading, there is no Holy Grail :) so, ignoring sync for a moment, you can use a non-problem radio in the same location where your problem radio fails, and it operates fine? Bought it off eBay. It won't stay connected to my wifi for very long even though it's in the same room as my router. Didn't wade through all the posts, but one gave me an idea. I have several, so I brought another one into the same room and fired it up. Synched my 'problem' radio to it. It's been working fine for about 90 minutes which is longer than it's stayed connected to wifi since I bought it. Will have to try it in another location further from the router and hope for the best. jeff52807's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34220 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

The WiFiAnalyzer on Android is very suitable. It has a nice channel graph. I haven't tried it on the iPhone. The Access Points tab displays sometimes the manufacturer and always the Ethernet address, which identifies the manufacturer and model. It would be great if it identified mesh and WiFi6 signals, mine doesn't (old phone). Moving to another location is a lot of work. You have to scout out a location, take your LMS machine and router, get power and an internet connection, and be prepared to hang around for a while. While some radios suffer 10-15 interruptions per hour, others are just a few per day. Anyway, I think we have more or less determined that it is the radio's chip firmware limitation causing the problem, and not the radio deteriorating. By the way, another user's suggestion to shield the radio with aluminum foil, along with a strong signal from a nearby access point, is now making more sense to me. By drastically reducing all the signals into the radio, the offending signals may not cause problems because they are too weak to be picked up by the periodic scan. The strong desired signal becomes weaker, but this is not usually a problem for the radio. This foil can be tried on the outside. If it works, it is a simple matter to open the case and attach it to the inside for fixed location use. Some experimentation may be in order. My suggestions really have been to narrow down "is it the radio/is it my network/is it nearby network". That's why I suggested moving to a different location and trying. My home is rural and my cabin can't much more rural (no other networks in sight), and I have no problems with my radio. I suppose if my neighbor at home upgrades his router, maybe also, when you say "where your phone reports very weak signals from neighbors, you mean with an app such as wifi analyzer, right? I think that doesn't work because the disruption occurs when the radio periodically scans all the channels for access points and hits a (WiFi6 or other) signal that "confuses" the closed source secret chip firmware, causing it to later miss transmissions from the router to the radio. The connection then fails. The solution is to update the chip firmware, and an update may have been created, but I haven't found it. The chip itself seems very capable. A workaround might be to drastically reduce the radio's periodic scanning, perhaps to only during too low signal strength conditions, which would mostly or entirely eliminate the problem for radios with a solid connection. > think it's time to put both your router and a radio in a Faraday Cage > I'm only (half) joking. ... Hello all, I did another test and placed the SBR quite close to the router. Assuming that a strong wifi signal would dominate the competing wifi networks in the neighborhood. But unfortunately there is no difference, after about 20 minutes the SBR lost the wifi signal. What really makes me wonder is the fact that 3 weeks ago I had no problems and suddenly 3 SBR go offline. I think something is wrong with the firmware of the SBR. I set a fixed channel on my router and chose a channel with the least usage. My router uses wifi 4 standard and no changes in network hard and software. I can do the test again, because if it is not repeatable then it is conjecture. However, at my home the test would be tainted because interference occurs from somewhere else. I don't know when I will be back to an area with no known interference to do a better test. Does anyone know of a Wifi analyzer than detects the use of the WiFi 6 standard by routers? Or how to tell if Wifi6 is being used by a router? Well, there goes the rural/urban theory! :) my post was intended to be very tongue in cheek, but there is no doubt something is going on with the radios. You don't see the same chatter here with the touch, boom, pi's, etc. Perhaps that is contributed to by the sheer volume produced? I don't know the sales stat, maybe someone does, but if it is the best selling, I can see why, as you don't need a kit, portability, etc. Maybe it's a defective part in the radio, but it seems like issues are very common all of a sudden which leads to the network hardware changes issue. I have offered in the past, and am still willing to send a known good radio (in the US) to a user having a problem to see if my radio behaves badly in their environment. I am willing to pay postage out, just ask for post to return, or, send me the troublesome radio to test. In the mean time it seems to me like alot of people have found solutions for the stationary radios (no battery, no need to move around). It seems like the holy grail of solutions is to get the radio working with no "help" I also take it that there are no schematics, parts lists, etc remaining from the development? The funny thing is that every time a new person posts their > connection dropping problem it generates the same 20 pages of dead-end > questions and suggestions! > > Roger Hi Roger, One test if the problem is due to Wifi 6 standard is that the Radio will work reliable on ethernet but is unreliable on Wifi. You will have to manually switch to ethernet connection as it is not automatic. A solution is to bypass the internal wifi on the Radio by using wifi to ethernet bridge. I use a TP-link nano travel router (WR802) in access point mode. Others use a similar device made by Vonets. (The instructions for the Vonets is sparse and I could not get it to work, but others have sucess so it is user error by me.) This should solve the problem if interference is caused by the Wifi 6 standard being used by your or a neighbor's router. The downside of this solution is the Radio becomes less mobile. I solved this by using a '*USB power*' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?97791-Squeezebox-Radio-keeps-losing-wireless-connection-and-won-t-reconnect-any-ideas=1037602=#post1037602) brick to power the TP-link router. The wlanpoke script can help, but for me I still have to reboot one of my Radios once a week. The instructions are found on the first post '*here*' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114775-Simplified-instructions-for-Squeezebox-Radio-Wi-Fi-fix-(wlanpoke)). My understanding is either the wifi chip in the Radio or its firmware has a problem. Since the firmware for the wifi chip is proprietary, there is no way for this community to fix the problem is software related. The Touch and other SB devices use a different Wifi Chip, it those devices do not have this problem. The above condenses my understanding of the issue from readings the forums over the last year, and the solution I used to mitigate the problem. I'm very curious as to what is happening...especially having zero firewall knowledge Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Hi same problem here with 3 SBRs. I've tried it with a hotspot network and after a short time the SBR looses connection, it doesn't matter if you connect the SBR to a local LMS or to mysqueezebox.com When wired, everything works fine. I haven't changed any hardware, software or firmware in my network. The problem started about two weeks ago. I've spend in total about a day resolving the problem and I'm very frustrated. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
I got tired of the problem and just bought a TP-Link AV600 Powerline Ethernet Adapter set from Amazon. One wall-mounted unit is wired at the router location and the other is plugged in and connected to the Squeezebox with an Ethernet cable. For $37, I got rid of wireless. No problems in 6 months. davenva's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34191 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

A blue wifi icon indicates that the wifi is connected to your AP and has a working network connection. But the Radio has not been able to connect to a server (local LMS or MSB.com). So, yes, this would seem to be a different problem to the problem addressed in this thread. mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
I guess I am joining the chorus of those with Radios that will not connect. Can someone confirm these are the symptoms. Blue wireless light that doesn't change except briefly to red if I reboot. Also if I go to network connections in Settings/Advanced and select the network it appears to connect and then just goes to retry or choose network again (blue wireless light too). The only change in my set up relates to firewall. I turned UFW off and setup a nftables Firewall with these rules for LMS: Code: # Accept LMS on port 9000. tcp dport 9000 counter accept comment "Accept LMS on port 9000" # Accept LMS on port 3483. tcp dport 3483 counter accept comment "Accept LMS on port 3483" And my wireless Touch works fine Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.1 - 1633378390 @ Mon Oct 4 23:28:51 CEST 2021 Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8 Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux Perl Version: 5.30.0 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0) One SB Touch connected by Ethernet - Denon AVR -1912 Receiver, Paradigm 4.1 speakers SB Touch connected by Optical to Sabaj A4 amp and Energy bookshelf speakers Two SB Radios wireless SlimChances's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=165 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
The vonets wifi extender did the trick for me. Make sure you get the blue VAP11G and not the white VAP11N. I went through 2 of the white ones in a matter of months, but the blue VAP11G-300 has been going strong for a year now. I also have a classic and a touch in the house but those don't have any issues with the WIFI although all 3 are no longer detectable from my iOS devices for AirPlay streaming (Polyvection DAC32 running LMS has no issues at all). superstar19's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59363 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109953 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] WiFi connection unstable/lost on three Radios
My Radio just got hit by this issue today. I solved it by cutting over to Ethernet -- though I fully realize that is not possible for many/most Radio users. My two Touches have been suffering this issue for about 6 months. The problem is a head scratcher. I moved one Touch to Ethernet and added a Vonets Bridge to my other Touch. (https://forums.slimdevices.com/search.php?searchid=5209254) I think I agree with several members that the problem is related to a "complicated" 802.11/RF environment in 2022 that is not hospitable to these old Squeezebox devices. I think that these ~10-year old units are still the best-of-breed in many ways, but their days using wifi natively may be numbered.
