Allow me to present you with my first choice for President of these United
States. Way back in another lifetime--a year and a half ago--Dennis Kucinich
was my choice for Prez, before John Edwards, Obama, and hillary Clinton. I like
his real straight talk, his interesting background (dude was once so poor he
had to live with friends), his lack of doing what's politic. And man can dude
get excited! Check out his speech at the DNC tonight, surely one of the most
lively in the convention...

Harry Potter studio Warner Bros. is suing an Indian film company
over the title of upcoming film Hari Puttar — A Comedy Of Terrors,
according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. says the name is too similar to that of its megahit
franchise.

A spokesman confirmed the lawsuit against Mumbai-based Mirchi Movies.
The case is reportedly due to be heard in Bombay High Court. The film
is due to open in India on Sept. 12.

Warner Bros. values and protects intellectual property rights,
Warner Bros. spokeswoman Deborah Lincoln told the Reporter. However,
it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing
litigation.

Hari is a popular Indian name, while Puttar means son in Punjabi.

Hari Puttar, directed by Rajesh Bajaj and Lucky Kohli, stars Zain
Khan as Hari alongside veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff.

Hari Puttar tells of a 10-year-old boy who moves to England with his
parents and becomes involved in a plot concerning a secret microchip
and is set for a Sept. 12 release in India.

Munish Purii, the chief executive of Mirchi Movies, said we
registered the 'Hari Puttar' title in 2005, and it's unfortunate that
Warner has chosen to file a case so close to our film's release.

But I'm sure they won't waste any time cranking out another movie

Jolie is

1. Great actor but overly sexual and would basically be the conceptual next
step in the same direction for Catwoman

2. A star that is bigger than just about every movie she is in. She would
eclipse whatever character she plays and any of her co-stars.

3. The best actors in Nolans Batman all played supporting roles. She would
have to play maybe Bruce Wayne's girlfriend (think Drew Barrymore) and have
maybe 3 scenes.

4. Cost too much.

I guess the next Catwoman will be a cougar. Sorry, couldn't resist. i
guess Madonna was too busy for the role. Ok, I'll stop now.

I guess Nolan will have a different take than the traditional
Catwoman. The sexual tension between the two will definitely have
very different overtones than other portrayals.

That's the point I keep making, especially points 2 and 3. I think the focus
on who the next Batman villain (and actor or actress playing him or her) is the
wrong focus. Now the movie's more about the villain, the actor who gets the
role, and that performance. It should be about the *story*, how will Nolan
resolve teh end of two, with Batman not in a good place. And, what villian(s)
would enhance that story, not who or what the fans want, or who'd be cool. Do
the story first, find the villain that fills that story, and then find the
actor who plays that villain best. That's who we got Ra's Al Ghul and
Scarecrow, definitely not mainstream villains, and how Nolan resisted the pull
to make Joker the villain in the first flick.

Jolie would overshadow the role by virtue of who she is, and then we're back to
that stunt casting I hate.
I feel the same about Katie Holmes and Maggie Gillenhaal. They were chosen more
for being known, in my opinion, than for being perfect for the roles. I can
think of half a dozen actresses who've appeared on shows like Angel or
Supernatural who would have been better fits.

-- Original message --
From: Omari Confer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Jolie is

She would have
to play maybe Bruce Wayne's girlfriend (think Drew Barrymore) and have maybe 3
scenes.

4. Cost too much.

Suit Pits Harry Potter Vs. Hari Puttar

From Wire Reports

August 27, 2008
Click here to find out more!

Harry Potter studio Warner Bros. is suing an Indian film company
over the title of upcoming film Hari Puttar - A Comedy Of Terrors,
according to the Hollywood Reporter.

As the Hollywood saying goes...Ben Affleck has an Oscar. And then
you're supposed to roll your eyes.

We all have opinions about good actors/actresses, they are all
correct, and I apologize to anyone I have offended by saying that
Cher is a bad choice. But in terms of this project, Cher is a bad
choice for Catwoman. If we're gonna pull people who gave great acting
performances 20 years ago let's just go get Catherine Mary Stewart
for the role. Cher has not made me believe she was anyone but Cher in
any role she has ever played. She is a movie star, yes. And a famous
one. And a talented performer. I like her, but this role is very
specific. This ain't 1986 when you can just get a famous person and
put them in the outfit. hey have to be able to pull it off.

For me, for THIS ROLE: No way, No how. No Cher. ;)

 Prisoner Details Hinted

AMC's general manager Charlie Collier told SCI FI Wire that the cable
network's upcoming reboot of the classic 1960s British SF series The
Prisoner will have some familiar elements.

I don't really think of it being sci-fi, but it has the elements of the
Village and the gadgetry, Collier said in an interview at the Television
Critics Association press tour on July 9 in Beverly Hills, Calif. Collier
wouldn't reveal much more about how the show is being updated, but he
offered one big spoiler: The giant white ball, Rover, will be part of the
 new show.

Rover was a big part of the TV series; it will be part of it. We can't
 talk
about it extensively now--it will get me in trouble, Collier said.

The Prisoner, AMC's second original miniseries, combines espionage,
 thriller
and science fiction and will star Jim Caviezel as Number Six, a part
originated by Patrick McGoohan. McGoohan served as the creato r, producer,
writer and director of the 1960s series. Lord of the Rings star Ian
 McKellen
will play Number Two, Six's boss and the man who apparently controls the
mysterious Village in which he is trapped.

We got Jesus and Gandalf! Collier said. What better cast could we get
 for
those two characters than Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel? It will be a
 limited series, that's how we could get those guys. But it is extensive;
 it
 is six hours.

Caviezel played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ and was in genre films
such as The Final Cut, The Count of Monte Cristo, Frequency and the
 upcoming
Outlander. McKellen was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as the
wizard Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and
 was
 Magneto in the X-Men movies.

Collier promised that the two actors would talk about the miniseries
 during
a future TV press tour. The Prisoner isn't on AMC's schedule until 2009.

Oh, I disagree. I just used those two shows as examples, but between them there
were dozens of actresses. My main point is there's a huge source of TV and
movie actresses from which to pull, without only thinking of Jolie, Berry, etc.
Again, i'm not even necessarily talking about the main stars of those shows.
I'm thinking of the many guest stars who did a good job. That's the point: move
far afield, don't just look at headliners and stars.

I dont think any other the actors from Angel or Supernatural have the gravitas

role, and that performance.

Jolie is

1. Great actor but overly sexual and would basically be the conceptual next

2. A star that is bigger than just about every movie she is in. She would
eclipse whatever character she plays and any of her co-stars.

3. The best actors in Nolans Batman all played supporting roles. She would have
to play maybe Bruce Wayne's girlfriend (think Drew Barrymore) and have maybe 3

4. Cost too much.

Electic list! Well, I was going to ask if you had a list of top five scifi/spec
fiction shows, and then a separate mainstream topic shows, but I see you
combine the two. Indeed, only Twilight Zone on your list really spends a great
deal of time in the realms we call scifi or the supernatural.

Ever seen Homicide: Life on the Street? Awesome show, one of my top five
easily in the non scifi genre. I hear that The Wire, done by the same people,
is even better.

What it seems like to me Mr. Lockhart is that you are fixated on the idea of
Catwoman being this foxy...sex symbol. Cher is a sex symbol but her
persona on screen would come accross as very unsettling...

not even playing a cougar but a Kiss of the Spiderwoman/Black Widow kind
of Catwoman.

Think of this scifinoir folks...

When you think of a woman with alot of cats you think of a very insular and
lonely individual. What if this person had some kind of influence...or power
over people?

Creepy, scary...Nolan

There are only a handful of women that could share the screen with Christian

see you combine the two. Indeed, only Twilight Zone on your list really
spends a great deal of time in the realms we call scifi or the supernatural.

Ever seen Homicide: Life on the Street? Awesome show, one of my top five
easily in the non scifi genre. I hear that The Wire, done by the same
 people, is even better.

McGoohan served as the creato r,
 producer,
writer and director of the 1960s series. Lord of the Rings star Ian
 McKellen
will play Number Two, Six's boss and the man who apparently controls the
mysterious Village in which he is trapped.

We got Jesus and Gandalf! Collier said. What better cast could we get
 for
those two characters than Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel? It will be a
 limited series, that's how we could get those guys. But it is extensive;
 it
 is six hours.

Caviezel played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ and was in genre films
such as The Final Cut, The Count of Monte Cristo, Frequency and the
 upcoming
Outlander. McKellen was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as
 the
wizard Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and
 was
 Magneto in the X-Men movies.

Collier promised that the two actors would talk about the miniseries
 during
a future TV press tour. The Prisoner isn't on AMC's schedule until 2009.

Cher has always been too drag queeny for my taste (especially in
those garish Bob Mackey gowns). That video (If I could turn back
time)she did half-naked on the aircraft carrier almost made me
physically ill - and that was NINETEEN years ago (when she was a mere

Even Cher had the good sense to retire and stop doing farewell tours

Again, you miss me sir! :)
I didn't limit to the CW, I said *all* of TV and the movies: NBC, CBS, Fox,
indie films, major film studios, Showtime, HBO. I only threw out Supernatural
and Angel as an example. My point is that whenever we talk of someone playing a
pivotal role in a movie, we talk about half a dozen or so men and women who've
made it to the A-list. But then we shoehorn characters into the shapes of the
actors. It doesn't have to be Jolie even discussed.
Surely you're not saying that all the TV stations--again, don't just think
CW--can't produce an actress good enough to play Catwoman? I have seen 'em for
darn sure.

-- Original message --
From: Omari Confer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
You are wrong again Mr Keith...

There are only a handful of women that could share the screen with Christian
Bale without seeming like some random hot chick.

We are talking about actresses that can actually act

Outside of Kristen Bell...

The CW cannot, will not and does not create talented actresses...

Get over the fact that they are hot...none of them can act...

Period.

Oh, I disagree. I just used those two shows as examples, but between them there

movie actresses from which to pull, without only thinking of Jolie, Berry, etc.
Again, i'm not even necessarily talking about the main stars of those shows.
I'm thinking of the many guest stars who did a good job. That's the point: move
far afield, don't just look at headliners and stars.

-- Original message --

I dont think any other the actors from Angel or Supernatural have the gravitas
to act in this movie. The girlfriend role had to be someone that could act as a
peer and not a subordinate to the playboy Wayne character.

On 8/27/08, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Jolie is

She would have
to play maybe Bruce Wayne's girlfriend (think Drew Barrymore) and have maybe 3
scenes.

4. Cost too much.

I guess we have to wait and see how this all plays out. I would love

Angelina Jolie. Cher isn't even on my voting ticket for this movie.
But I'm sure they won't waste any time cranking out another movie
since the box office is about to get very dry. Cause looking at the
fall movie preview there is nothing I want to see at all.

Actually the older man/younger woman thing is called normal. Ever glom many
movies or TV sitcoms? How often do you see an older and/or plain looking guy
paired with a younger, more attractive woman? From Newhart to King of
Queens to Yes, Dear and According to Jim, you get older dudes with
yiounger women. The dudes are often out of shape, overweight, balding. Old. The
women, younger, in shape. When's the last time Jack Nicholson had a love
interest his age, other than the movie with Dianne Keaton where it was a
novelty? Even Denzel Washington has gotten some young women in some recent
flicks.

I am always fixated on some foxy sex symbol.

But that's not what my casting choice is about. It's about the
fact that eventually Catwoman and Batman become romantically
involved...if they stay in Dark Knight mode. there is a chemistry
that should be interesting to watch on screen.

What you are describing is Angelica Houston as Catwoman, which is
interesting, I think, but not great opposite Christian Bale. Your
Catwoman is really brilliant, but power-mad and stylistically
challenged...sort of Condoleeza Rice without the government
contacts. Then something happens and she snaps and takes on the
personality of the cats she was surrounded with.

I'm gonna go with the foxy sex symbol. And I'm not being age-ist.
I'm being look-ist!

Oscar-winning Marion Cotillard was facing embarrasment with her new
American public last night after it emerged that she doubted the
official account of the September 11 attacks. The 32-year-old French
star has swept this year's best actress awards, also receiving a
Bafta, Golden Globe and a César for her performance as singer Edith

But the actress faces a potential backlash in the US over comments
she made in an interview in France. Footage which surfaced on the

September 11, 2001, and the 1969 moon landing.

I think we're lied to about a number of things, she said, singling

Referring to the two passenger jets flown into the World Trade

being hit by planes, are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it
was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours.

It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [New
York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed.

Miss Cotillard suggested that the towers, planned in the early 1960s,
were an outdated money sucker which would have cost so much to
modernise that it was easier to destroy them.

Turning to America's space programme, she said: Did a man really
walk on the moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really
wondered. And in any case I don't believe all they tell me, that's
for sure.

Miss Cotillard, who was born and brought up in Paris, made the
comments on Paris Première - Paris Dernière (Paris First - Paris

Oscar-winning Marion Cotillard was facing embarrasment with her new

American public last night after it emerged that she doubted the

official account of the September 11 attacks. The 32-year-old French

star has swept this year's best actress awards, also receiving a

Bafta, Golden Globe and a César for her performance as singer Edith

Piaf in La Vie en Rose...

But the actress faces a potential backlash in the US over comments

she made in an interview in France. Footage which surfaced on the

internet showed her questioning the New York terrorist attacks of

September 11, 2001, and the 1969 moon landing.

I think we're lied to about a number of things, she said, singling

out September 11.

Referring to the two passenger jets flown into the World Trade

Centre, Miss Cotillard said: We see other towers of the same kind

being hit by planes, are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it

was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours.

It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [New

Cher has always been too drag queeny for my taste (especially in

those garish Bob Mackey gowns). That video (If I could turn back

time)she did half-naked on the aircraft carrier almost made me

physically ill - and that was NINETEEN years ago (when she was a mere

kid of 44).

Even Cher had the good sense to retire and stop doing farewell tours

three years ago (although I hear she has signed a three year contract

to impersonate herself in Vegas).

10 Foods that Keep Your Arteries
  Cleanby www.SixWise. com

Your arteries are blood vessels that transport oxygen and nutrients from
your heart to the rest of your body. In order for this important process to
occur, your arteries should be flexible, strong, elastic and clear of any
  deposits.

All fruits and vegetables are said to help prevent heart disease, but
certain varieties (like apples) pack a particularly powerful
  punch.
However, over time deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste
products, calcium and other substances can build up in your arteries. These
plaques can severely restrict blood flow and, even more seriously, they can
cause your arteries to rupture, leading to blood clots. Blood clots can then
block your blood flow entirely, leading to heart attack and stroke.
In fact, a build-up of plaques in your arteries, known as atherosclerosis, is
the main underlying cause of heart disease.
So keeping your arteries clean is not only a key part of your heart health,
it's a key to your health overall.
While exercising on most days of the week is an excellent way to keep your
arteries healthy, your diet also plays a major role. Here we've identified 10
foods that are especially adept at helping to keep your arteries clean.

Grapefruit: It contains a type of fiber called pectin, which has
been shown in animal studies to slow down the progression of
  atherosclerosis.

Green Tea: This healthy beverage contains procyanidins,
which have been found to help prevent blood clots and promote healthy
endothelium (the tissues that lines blood vessels and your heart).

Apples: Apples (particularly Red Delicious and Granny Smith) are
  also rich in procyanidins.

  Garbanzo beans: Garbanzo
  beans contain both soluble
and insoluble dietary fiber, which help to remove cholesterol- containing
bile from your body. They are also known to help prevent heart
  disease.

Olive oil: Using olive oil as your exclusive source of oil may cut
your risk of coronary heart disease almost in half, according to the
CARDIO2000 case-control study, published in Clinical Cardiology. Meanwhile,
studies show that particles of LDL (bad) cholesterol that contain
monounsaturated fats (found in olive oil) are less likely to become oxidized.
This is important because only oxidized cholesterol is able to stick to your
  artery walls and form plaques.

Spinach: This leafy green contains both vitamin C and vitamin A,
which team up to prevent cholesterol from becoming oxidized (and thereby
helping to prevent plaques from forming in your arteries).

Salmon: Salmon is rich in omega-3 fats, which make blood less likely
to clot inside arteries and prevent cholesterol from becoming damaged or
oxidized. Choose wild-caught salmon (instead of farm-raised) for the most
  benefits.

  Tomatoes: Tomatoes
are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that may make LDL cholesterol much less
susceptible to becoming oxidized -- again, this is the first step in the
formation of plaque formation and is a major risk factor for heart
disease.

Swiss Chard: Swiss chard is an excellent source of the antioxidant
vitamin E, which helps prevent free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol.
Eating a diet rich in vitamin E has been shown to significantly reduce the
  risk of developing atherosclerosis.

Garlic: Garlic helps your heart and arteries in numerous ways,
  including:

A dinner of salmon and spinach will give you plenty of

We had the same experience, then. I was on CNN, went into the kitchen, realized
Obama's sister wasn't being covered, and also, caught Carter's interview on
PBS. That sold me. I've been increasingly dissatisfied with most news channels
recently, populated as they are with large panels of analysts who have to shout
over each other to get their five seconds' worth of TV time. PBS is
intelligent, concise, and feels so much more relaxing. What a wonder not to
suffer through people shouting over each other!

I started with CNN on the HD TV. But when I went into the kitchen to
prepare my dinner, and didn't find the convention on any of the

evening. No commercials, intelligent, concise commentary, and an
interview with Jimmy Carter, the greatest ex-president of all time, it

Truly enjoyed the whole Michelle Obama segment from the video about

We can't talk
about it extensively now--it will get me in trouble, Collier said.

The Prisoner, AMC's second original miniseries, combines espionage, thriller
and science fiction and will star Jim Caviezel as Number Six, a part
originated by Patrick McGoohan. McGoohan served as the creato
 r, producer,
writer and director of the 1960s series. Lord of the Rings star Ian McKellen
will play Number Two, Six's boss and the man who apparently controls the
mysterious Village in which he is trapped.

We got Jesus and Gandalf! Collier said. What better cast could we get for
those two characters than Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel? It will be a
limited series, that's how we could get those guys. But it is extensive; it
is six hours.

Caviezel played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ and was in genre films
such as The Final Cut, The Count of Monte Cristo, Frequency and the upcoming
Outlander. McKellen was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as the
wizard Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and was
Magneto in the X-Men movies.

Collier promised that the two actors would talk about the miniseries during
a future TV press tour. The Prisoner isn't on AMC's schedule until 2009.

Cher has always been too drag queeny for my taste (especially in
those garish Bob Mackey gowns). That video (If I could turn back
time)she did half-naked on the aircraft carrier almost made me
physically ill - and that was NINETEEN years ago (when she was a mere
kid of 44).

Even Cher had the good sense to retire and stop doing farewell tours
three years ago (although I hear she has signed a three year contract
to impersonate herself in Vegas).

I didn't limit to the CW, I said *all* of TV and the movies: NBC, CBS, Fox,
indie films, major film studios, Showtime, HBO. I only threw out
Supernatural and Angel as an example. My point is that whenever we talk of
someone playing a pivotal role in a movie, we talk about half a dozen or so
men and women who've made it to the A-list. But then we shoehorn characters
into the shapes of the actors. It doesn't have to be Jolie even discussed.
Surely you're not saying that all the TV stations--again, don't just think
CW--can't produce an actress good enough to play Catwoman? I have seen 'em
 for darn sure.

You are wrong again Mr Keith...

There are only a handful of women that could share the screen with
Christian Bale without seeming like some random hot chick.

We are talking about actresses that can actually act

 Outside of Kristen Bell...

The CW cannot, will not and does not create talented actresses...

Get over the fact that they are hot...none of them can act...

 Period.

I dont think any other the actors from Angel or Supernatural have the
gravitas to act in this movie. The girlfriend role had to be someone that
could act as a peer and not a subordinate to the playboy Wayne character.

That's the point I keep making, especially points 2 and 3. I think
the focus on who the next Batman villain (and actor or actress playing him
or her) is the wrong focus. Now the movie's more about the villain, the
actor who gets the role, and that performance. It should be about the
*story*, how will Nolan resolve teh end of two, with Batman not in a good
place. And, what villian(s) would enhance that story, not who or what the
fans want, or who'd be cool. Do the story first, find the villain that fills
that story, and then find the actor who plays that villain best. That's who
we got Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow, definitely not mainstream villains, and
how Nolan resisted the pull to make Joker the villain in the first flick.

Jolie would overshadow the role by virtue of who she is, and then we're
back to that stunt casting I hate.
I feel the same about Katie Holmes and Maggie Gillenhaal. They were
chosen more for being known, in my opinion, than for being perfect for the
roles. I can think of half a dozen actresses who've appeared on shows like
Angel or Supernatural who would have been better fits.

  Jolie is

 1. Great actor but overly sexual and would basically be the conceptual
next step in the same direction for Catwoman

 2. A star that is bigger than just about every movie she is in. She would
eclipse whatever character she plays and any of her co-stars.

 3. The best actors in Nolans Batman all played supporting roles. She
would have to play maybe Bruce Wayne's girlfriend (think Drew Barrymore) and
 have maybe 3 scenes.

 4. Cost too much.

But I'm sure they won't waste any time cranking out another movie
since the box office is about to get very dry. Cause looking at the
fall movie preview there is nothing I want to see at all.

We had the same experience, then. I was on CNN, went into the kitchen,
realized Obama's sister wasn't being covered, and also, caught Carter's
interview on PBS. That sold me. I've been increasingly dissatisfied with
most news channels recently, populated as they are with large panels of
analysts who have to shout over each other to get their five seconds' worth
of TV time. PBS is intelligent, concise, and feels so much more relaxing.
What a wonder not to suffer through people shouting over each other!

I started with CNN on the HD TV. But when I went into the kitchen to
prepare my dinner, and didn't find the convention on any of the
network channels, I turned to PBS and stayed with PBS the rest of the
evening. No commercials, intelligent, concise commentary, and an
interview with Jimmy Carter, the greatest ex-president of all time, it
don't get much better than that!

Truly enjoyed the whole Michelle Obama segment from the video about
her mother and father to her brother's introduction through her
bringing her elegant and delightful daughters up on stage to Obama

the Glenn Becks and other shrill loudmouths they brought on to answer
the call of Fox's shrill loudmouths. Maybe it's that all the anchors
and hosts have to pimp themselves out by saying the best political
team on television all the time; again, in homage to Fox. Or maybe
it's just the fact that I'm tired of the same old group of people
talking all the time. Whatever. I just noticed that everytime I turned
to CNN, Wolf Blitzer or Anderson Cooper or someone was yammering on
about polls and strategies, pulling out the fancy electronic maps and
fancy computer tricks, while in the background stuff was going on I
wanted to *see*. I was really upset when Obama's sister spoke and CNN
focused on Wolf Blitzer, while her voice co
uld barely be heard in the background. Then Wolf threw out the Best
Political Team on Television and they cut to commercial.
So, as I f ind myself doing more and more recently, I turned to PBS
and Jim Lehrer's group. There I got to see Obama's sister speak in
entirety. I got professional, level-headed analysis by professional
people, without shouting, loudtalking and posing for the camera. I got
to listen to analysts actually get more than hurry up you have five
seconds before we go to commercial, and actually get time to talk in
full conversations, without being rushed. I got intelligence with
PBS, while my beloved CNN gave me more surface and posturing. So it's
PBS that'll be my source for the rest of the DNC this week.
What are you using for your source?

Tomatoes and I have *never* been on the same page. (Or in the same region of

strictly contra-indicated against two of the meds I take. Used to eat one a

10 Foods that Keep Your Arteries Clean
by www.SixWise. http://www.sixwise.com/ com

Your arteries are blood vessels that transport oxygen and nutrients from
your heart to the rest of your body. In order for this important process to
occur, your arteries should be flexible, strong, elastic and clear of any
deposits.

 fruits and vegetables
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2008/08/27/9910826.thb.jpg

All fruits and vegetables are said to help prevent heart disease, but
certain varieties (like apples) pack a particularly powerful punch.

In fact, a build-up of plaques in your arteries, known as atherosclerosis,
is the main underlying cause of heart disease.

So keeping your arteries clean is not only a key part of your heart health,
it's a key to your health overall.

While exercising on most days of the week is an excellent way to keep your
arteries healthy, your diet also plays a major role. Here we've identified
10 foods that are especially adept at helping to keep your arteries clean.

1.
Grapefruit: It contains a type of fiber called pectin, which has been shown
in animal studies to slow down the progression of atherosclerosis.

2.
Green Tea: This healthy beverage contains procyanidins

which have been found to help prevent blood clots and promote healthy
endothelium (the tissues that lines blood vessels and your heart).

3.
Apples: Apples (particularly Red Delicious and Granny Smith) are also rich
in procyanidins.

4.
Garbanzo beans: Garbanzo beans

both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber

prevent heart disease.

5.
Olive oil: Using olive oil as your exclusive source of oil may cut your risk
of coronary heart disease almost in half, according to the CARDIO2000
case-control study, published in Clinical Cardiology. Meanwhile, studies
show that particles of LDL (bad) cholesterol that contain monounsaturated
fats (found in olive oil) are less likely to become oxidized. This is
important because only oxidized cholesterol is able to stick to your artery
walls and form plaques.

yeah, man. I think she--and Bill--picked up that whether Obama wins or loses,
what they do this year and this week determines their own futures. It's no joke
that a lot of Blacks (me included) are incensed at the not-so-subtle racism the
Clintons--who were givent the title of honorary Blacks--used against Obama.
It's less about even supporting Obama and more about the tricks they used. And
I've heard a lot of Blacks saying that if she didn't do everythig in her power
to make up for that, if Obama lost, they'd hold her and Bill responsible. Right
or wrong, that's the way it is. And as time's gone on, they've realized it's
not just Blacks, but many younger whites who don't have a sense of history and
loyalty with the Clintons. If Hillary runs in four years or tries to run in
even eight years, for newer generations she and Bill will be a part of history.
And how would they like part of that historic legacy to be that's the lady who

That's my thoughts exactly. What I saw Clintion was in a no-win situation.
It has now dawn on her that thanks to her primary actions she either has to
help Obama win the election-even if it means she'll never have a decent shot
of running for president. Or killing her political career, and her chance of
holding her senate seat by either doing nothing, or harming Obama's chance of
winning it. So she had to hit one out of the park. But now she has to make
sure that Obama wins the nod or many will blame his loss on her and endure
the backlash. Which will probally end her senate career.

Well, you're entitled to that opinion for sure. Speaking as a liberal, I'm
heartened by a return to more liberal thinking. If it means we can look at
people as people, instead of using sexual orientation and ethnicity as scare
tactics, I'm all for it. If we can respect anyone whether they're Christian,
Muslim, Jew, or atheist, then color me liberal. If we can return to a world
where we talk with other nations and make decisions with them rather than try
to push them around, then sign me up. If we can use thoughtful consideration
rather than charging in with guns blazing, then sing hallelujah. If we can
bring back to reality the moral Judeo-Christian points conservatives noise
about, but then ignore--the rights to privacy, respect of all races and
religions, loving and helping the less fortunate--then by all means, liberalism
come back!

And I get that just throwing a Black face in office isn't in and of itself
enough. After all, two of the worst, most destructive people in recent
history--Clarence Thomas and Condie Rice-are Black. But symbols are
powerful.Taking a step is powerful. Opening a door is powerful. And putting a
man --or woman, someday--of color in the highest office in the land is a
powerful symbol. It will change us in ways we don't even comprehend right now.
It won't be the Second Coming, but it will move us forward as a nation, a
people, if only a little bit. Just as you and I benefited from our parents and
grandparents being the first on a job, the first in a neighborhood, the first
in a church, the first to vote, then we'll all benefit from the right man being
the first to take the leadership of this country.

In my humble opinion.

Maybe, but he never resorted to the nasty, name-calling, baiting, disparaging,
disrespectful tactics the Clintons did. When Hillary was belittling him as
nothing but a one-speech guy, who was respectfully disagreeing with her. when
she shot nasty and really angry comments at him during their debates, he acted
with calm and class and made his point, firmly. And I believe that had he lost,
he'd have been out there doing his level best to help the Clintons win, despite
how they treated him. What did Hillary and Bill do at first? Acted like poor
losers, dropped out of sight, Bill going so far as to leave the country rather
than be asked to campaign for Obama.
They're getting their stuff together now, but it took a while. I say this as
someone who liked Hillary long past the point when many men and women hated
her, who defended many of her deeds as just tough politics, who sat in
indecision for long moments in the booth here in Atlanta before finally casting
my vote for Obama. I don't have a problem with her as a woman or anything like
that. I just have a problem with the way they let their campaign against Obama
degenerate. They messed up big, and everyone seems to realize that, them
included.

Keith,
Notihing is ever humble with you. I live in a traditional blue state. However
they baneed gay marriege. Tehre are alot of blue states out there that don't
like gay marriage. You live in a Hollywood world. A word were it is black or
white. Either or. If you are against this, then you are racist. If you are for
this, then you are okay.

I am against illegal immigration. I am against having more Asians come over
here. I think that a lack of rules is the problem in our society. Howeve I am
not an Evangelical Christian. I despise them by the way. I am not to found of
Christianity but I don't believe it should be vilified while other religons are
celebrated. I don't think that IR are well help race relations. Actually I am
not worried about race relations. I am worried about myself. I think that
blaks spend way to much time worried about race and not about themselves as
individuals. I think tthat they are too scared to be individuals.

This country is not ready for a woman president. As long as this country
focuses on race, a woman president will not happen. Therefore it will not
happen. Unless the woman is non white or married to a non whte man.

Bros before Hoes
Mammy
Nutcracker
Bitch
White Bitch

These are terms that are acceptable acros racial and gender lines. It will
not change with Obama.

This country is moving forwad. However groups have to face responsibility.
They chose not too because the media says it is not their fault. Slavery is the
problem. Immigration. Racist white men are al the problem. Government programs
are the solution. How can you be a progressive when you are told that nothing
is ever your fault. You don't have to take the blame.

The meida vilifies any person of color who does not fall into the victim hood
category especially african americans. Obama is an excpetion. He is not a
typical black person. He works hard. He is an immigrant. He does not have the
stain of slavery. How can you be proud of that?

Blacks have allowed liberals to feed them self doubt for too long. Yes Obama
is exceptional. However why has it take us so long to believe it. That was not
Bush, it was ourselves.

Even though I don't personally find her attractive, I enjoyed Cher's
work in Mask,Mermaids, Witches of Eastwick, 'Moonstruck,
and Silkwood, but her entire filmography is only 12 films long and
more than half of her cinematic output is not noteworthy - to be
charitable. Add in the fact that she hasn't had a film role in 18
years and it makes you wonder why Nolan is dusting off this relic.

Cher has always been too drag queeny for my taste (especially in
those garish Bob Mackey gowns). That video (If I could turn back
time)she did half-naked on the aircraft carrier almost made me
physically ill - and that was NINETEEN years ago (when she was a
mere

Even Cher had the good sense to retire and stop doing farewell
tours
three years ago (although I hear she has signed a three year

 to impersonate herself in Vegas).

Contract riders are the best entertainment ever. I once helped a friend with a
show at a nightclub in Dallas for Laibach, an Eastern European Industrial Band.
Among other things they demanded multiple cases of liquor, a keg of imported
beer, lights that literally would have lit up a NFL stadium and my personal
favorite item ever: THREE STUFFED STAGS HEADS.

You can't make up stuff like that

You really, really need to check your facts. Clyburn was on the fence for
months. Like many blacks in this country (me included) he was leaning toward
Hillary Clinton. But Obama's success, coupled with the Clinton's increasingly
hostile and dirty tactics, made him lean toward Obama. I watched Clyburn in a
live interview say that he called Bill Clinton personally to tell him he was
going with Obama, and Clinton cussed at him. I heard Richardson say Clinton
went off on him. Hell, Teddy Kennedy said the Clintons went off on him too.
John Lewis here in Atlanta called to tell them, and he too said it didn't go
well. I liked and like Bill and Hillary, but they did this to themselves. You
call Clyburn a dog, but it was the Clintons who acted like brutes, cursing and
threatening and attacking people for having the temerity to back someone else.
Tonight at the DNC, Clyburn said he liked the Clintons, still likes the
Clintons. I have no problem with them, he said.He then said he still fel
t some of their comments could have been interpreted as racist, but that he
still had no enduring problem with them.

How is that the posture of an angry dog?

And I'm really, really confused. What did Obama do to Hillary? How can you in
the same night attack Obama and men for a sexist plot against Hillary, then say
she came out swinging and he was meek. She lost this fight, and you are
saying you'll never vote for him. You are Black right? Then tell me how a
respectful Black man like Obama who speaks with nothing but respect for women
is worse than McCain, who called his wife the c-word in public? Tell me how you
have contempt for Obama who has an intelligent, educated wife who I believe
will bring more respect to the First Lady, while going with don't-say-too-much
Cindy McCain?

You're entitled to your opinion, that's the American way. But if I could
understand it as something other than an odd hatred of Obama, or men, or Black
men--or all three--that'd be nice. If you think a white multi-millionaire like
john McCain who supported a senseless invasion that will cost us trillions is
better for you than a Black man who understands the struggles of being both
Black and not wealthy, that's your right.

I'm tired, mad at myself for staying up this late and doing this instead of
writing or job searching. But I say again--and finally--you seem to have a lot
of hostility. I've read all your posts, and they seem to have a common theme of
hatred for men, hatred for Black men, and contempt for Black people who dare
say the world's not fair to them. i just don't get it.

You tend to get personal with people, Gymfig. Why is that? I disagree with you,
but I don't get personal and say stuff like nothing is ever humble with you.
That's insulting. You don't know me on the level to say I'm never humble. I
think Tracey and Martin and many people in this group--with whom I've had civil
discussions--would tell you i'm not arrogant, self-righteous, or intractable in
my opinions. And the more I read, this, the more I don't get your statement
that I only see people as racist or not racist, with me or against me. I've
never said anyting to even remotely convey that opinion.

I'm the son of a man who had an eighth grade education, who dropped out of
school to work the family farm. My dad enlisted for WWII, was discharged due to
medical issues, and worked odd jobs for years in a racist Texas. He and my mom
adopted me when I was a young child, sparing me the life of an orphan. Dad was
a minister, a barber, and worked double shifts at Bell Helicopter to support me
and my two brothers. My mom was a church going woman who ran the household and
made sure we had clothes to wear, food to eat, and a solid education. My family
lived in a really small house, never owned a brand new car, always had to shop
for the bargains. I know where I come from, i'm proud of it, and, if one can
be arrogant in humility, I can say you can't get much more humble than I am.

But I'm not a dunce, have opinions, and just beause I disagree with you,
please don't say stuff like that.

I don't want to say this, but you honestly strike me as someone who dislikes
Black people, and Black men in particular. I notice that you speak with
contempt-not disagreement, but contempt--whenever racism is mentioned. Rather
than agree that racism still exists, and then say something like but it isn't
our only problem (which all of us would agree on) you put down all Black
people as seeking to be victims. I have a college degree in Electrical
Engineering, was valedictorian of my high school, president of my college EE
society, and currently work as a senior network administrator. I've worked my
butt off to get where I am, and I didn't sit back and blame the world for all
my problems. But I know racism exists because I've fought it. I've worked in HR
before, and I know the racism still in existence in hiring and promotions in
America. I've seen it. I'm successful by most standards, and I never let
anything hold me down, but I know racism has made things harder for me than for
m
y white friends with whom i grew up. Yes there are issues of poverty, drugs,
crime, lack of education, disintegration of the family, but racism still
exists. I face it everyday in the good old Georgia white men at my job who
would *never* vote for a Black man. It is one of a list of problems we face. i
don't even see anyone in this group always crying racism first. We know Black
people need to be self-reliant, take care of our kids, make a way in the world.
We know it ain't all about racism. But you always take the truth of
racism--even when it's only one part of a much more complex discussion--and
rake us over the coals for that. Why is that? We don't use racism as a crutch,
but we'd be fools to ignore it completely. Even if we were leaning on racism
too much, you're like the person who helps someone when he's down by kicking
them.

Yelling at me, insulting me, denouncing all Blacks as wannabe victims,
demeaning men--these aren't ways to help anyone listen to your point of view.

Also, what is your deal with men? I've noticed over and over and over that you
seize on stuff and start this women can't make it work because of men talk.
Frankly, you cry sexism way more than anyone in this group has ever cried
racism. It's like this thing with Obama. You keep saying he's just a man, and
that Hillary as a woman never had a chance. You find all these examples of how
sexism keeps women down. You diminish the accomplishment of a man of color as
nothing, as if only a woman president would have any meaning.

Well, first, unlike you do us, I won't rake you over the coals for decrying
sexism. I know it exists too, my wife's struggles in this country are proof of
that.
But just like racism can't be blamed for everything, neither can sexism.
Hillary Clinton lost in large part because she ran a poorly executed campaign.
Just Monday I listened to a panel discussion of Dems and Republicans discuss
what happened. They spoke of how Clinton arrogantly ignored the Iowa Caucus,
while Obama pressed the flesh, visited diners, and clocked untold hours there.
Edwards did the same thing, which is why she came in third. No one to blame but
herself. You're telling me a lily white Midwestern state like that is more
sexist than it is racist? Nope. Later, Clinton went after the bigger prizes,
the states with more delegates, and again, virtually ignored the small states,
the onesie-twosies beneath her notice. Obama, again, was
