Group,

The other day, while activating the windshield cleaning jets, I noticed that
only my two outer nozzles were spraying and the two inner nozzles were not.
I suppose they could both be clogged/jammed, but it seems to coincidental
that neither are spraying/dripping under pressure.

Does anyone know if there are multiple supply lines coming from the
windshield washer reservoir to the washer jets? Or, is there just one
supply line for the washer jets? Any help would be appreciated.

When very cold (below freezing) , the steering on my 325iX is so stiff
that it will not return to center. I replaced my front control arms and
bushings shortly before all this, but I think that would be coincidence.
It has been aligned since and the problem remains...
I have purchased, but not yet installed, a new PS resivoir, as I think
it may be clogged and contributing to the problem.
I have noticed that one of my front struts has begun getting sticky in
its movement (probably due to bottoming out with the lowered
suspension).

Anything I could be missing?
It was not sticking last year...

TIA

Matt,

There are three things I can think of, two of them you hit.

Number one is sludge in the PS system. PS fluid degrades over time and can
get very thick and "chunky" if not changed on a regular basis.

The second may sound somewhat obvious and silly, but it could be the case.
Check the PS belt. An older belt (especially one that has been subjected to
lots of heat) can become "glazed" much like an overworked brake pad. The
surface will get hard, and in cold conditions this will be exacerbated.
I've seen belts like this where they will slip when cold, but do not make a
sound.

This probably isn't it, but check the simple (and inexpensive) things first
before moving on to the more complex (and expensive) items.

The struts are likely the cause, if the suspension is "hanging" you will
get all sorts of odd steering behavior out of the car.

The blue painted bulbs used to bug me, but I've learned to appreciate how
they act as "idiot locators" while I drive. After I spot the fake blue
lights in my mirror I know that usually within a few seconds I'm going to be
cut off or passed on the right. Most of the kids who think that the blue
painted bulbs "give them real HID lights for less money" are same idiots who
think that "adding a 12" tail pipe to their Honda DX will make it as fast as
an M3". The reason I say "kids" with the fake blue lights is that I've
never seen anyone who looks over 30 driving a car that has them (now that I
think about I don't think I've ever seen anyone who looks over 30 with a
lowered Honda that has a wing, huge tail pipe and two foot long "Type R"
sticker...).

True enough. I didn't mean to suggest that a missed 5-4 downshift was the only way it
could happen, just the most common due to the shifter configuration, transmission
mount flex, etc. My point was really that the rev limiter has no effect in such a
situation so the claim that 325s were less likely to bend valves due to a lower rev
limiter is a red herring.

The transmission fault light is never a good sign, get it diagnosed right away. Is
the trans slipping at all? replace the fluid every 30k, but a replacement is way too
costly.

Yes, my parents bought my little sister a BMW, and no they did not consult
with me first. So she got a 1994 318 i, Automatic, with 100K miles. It is
not a bad little car, though I would have stayed clear of the automatic and
four doors. Plus it was an e-bay purchase. Very clean inside and out,
good leather, etc.

Anyway while resetting her oil lights I got two random fault codes, both of
which cleared out.

The first one to come up was - 36, which is Control Unit Supply

Any ideas on this???

The next one after the "36" was cleared was - C9 - Emission (lambda)
control

Any ideas on this???

Two other things - first the lights slightly dim and flicker. I'm guessing
this is the alternator going bad, or battery?

And the little idiot light for the transmission lights up on occasion (gear
with a " ! " in the middle). Having only manuals myself - I don't know
about this one?

Gruppe,

Yesterday while driving to work, I got a "Brake Circuit Failure - See
Owner's Manual" message on my OBC. From past digests, it sounds like
this is quite possibly the brake light switch on the pedal.

However, when I cycled my ignition off/on, the message disappeared and
hasn't come back in another 20+ miles of driving. Upon inspection, all
of my brake lights are perfectly functional.

Does the brake light switch have an intermittent failure mode? Or is
there something else funny going on here?

TIA,

Mine behaved the same way (seemingly random failures); I replaced
the switch and that solved it.

I just did this on my E34 - I first pulled the switch and opened up to clean the
points - reported as an adequate fix sometimes - but the points were pretty well fried.

I did the best I could and brake lights were intermittent after that. Next day I
replaced the switch. It was pretty quick to pull it out the second time!

I had an accident on Friday, It was raining, and I'm not the only one that
had an accident here in Dallas, 800 others also had accidents. My question
is, as far as the ABS and how it works, I was unable to stop my car, I was
preceeding though an intersection I guess my car hit a slick spot, and did a
360 degree turn, and just tore up all the divider of the road, not to
mention what it had done to the suspension and all under my car, I
experienced 6,000 dollars worth of damage, and no body damage done on the
car at all. Also before this accident, I had another in 2002, trying to
avoid hitting a car, and they also tried to avoid runing in the back of a
car and we both went to the shoulder of the road, but I still ran in the
back of this truck. I put on brakes, but I've never seen the ABS work.
Thanks for any information in advance. Also, should I still keep this car,
or trade it in after all that has happened.

Any western Canucks out there familiar with this track? Is it
worthwhile?

Last year I went to Mosport for the first time (fourth DE) and my Dad
joined me for his first school. We both loved it. This year he is
talking about doing the Calgary event instead, since he lives in
Alberta. I'm curious about the track and how it may compare. I'm sure
it's no Mosport, but not sure what to expect.

Thanks,
