The E38 is also my favorite 7, and they've depreciated greatly in price.
I wonder if it would be possible to stick an E39 M5 engine in one along
with the 6-speed gearbox. It would be black, wearing some gratuitous
incarnation of BBS wheels (19-inch CHs or RGRs in 18), with upgraded
suspension and brake bits. Talk about an iron fist in a velvet glove, of
which the stock sport-packaged E38 in V8 form already does a fair
approximation.

The M5 motor would undoubtedly fit, too, given that the 4.4L that fits
in the E39 was also used in the E38.

Wow, do those web pages need updating.

Since the last update, the interior has gotten a big update (E46 M3
front seats in limited-edition fabric), Corsa RSC-based exhaust built
by UUC, performance downpipes and cats by UUC, updated Mk IV nav system
from BMW, UUC lightweight flywheel, and coming within the next month
are new very special forged wheels and UUC performance air intake
system.

And I do still plan on some engine work.

Overall, one of the most satisfying project cars I've ever had a part
in producing. As always, a big thanks to Brett Anderson of KMS for
helping turn the idea into reality.

Bigger, more efficient brakes, that's good....really good. Are the rear
brakes floating rotor too?

This is definitely cool & probably worth the price of entry in this car.

Good, good, I'm liking this.

I wonder how much of the package cost is in this. Something that most
everybody is going to turn completely off at the track or an autocross
anyway. Furthermore, is this an indication that the standard DSC is a
little too intrusive????

>

That's really cool. I know the E30 M3 sport evos had a wheel like this, &
that's definitely a BMW cool blast from the past.

Uh-huh....

See, now the competition package should've been more competition oriented.
While they did some cool stuff, why not go farther since it's a special
anyway. Imagine if you could save the weight (and, more importantly cost)
of having to have the leather, power-everything memory seats. Does an M3
competition need a DVD-Nav system? The stuff they put in is cool, but the
kinda thing that the track junkies who'd be interested in a car like this
can source the fun bits for less on the aftermarket--except the steering
rack which is a cool upgrade in itself. That being said, for the $4000, why
not buy a base model (can you say base model M3????--even my little E30 is
stocked) buy the rack from the dealer & spend the other $3000 in aftermarket
goodies??????

I saw the ad in GRM, and yes, that blue is a REALLY cool color, also maybe
worth the price of admission. Especially if the only other choice of blue
is the smurf-sperm, Laguna.

Depends on your definition I suppose, I bet BMW lawyers would make it "more
intrusive" if they had
their way.

The Sport Evo E30 M3 had suede bits, the E46 is Alcantara (faux suede).

Data Point: Friend of mine drove his US-Spec E24 '88 M6 in Germany
for three years. His Dinan-chipped M6 could do an indicated 165 MPH
with pedal remaining ("fast enough" according to him). He routinely
drove it for extended periods at 140+.

The E24 M6 is an autobahn weapon, and will carry it's well-heeled
passengers at very high speeds over extended distances in complete
control with an enviable level of style and comfort.

Yes, every one does have a clutch, actuated by an electrically controlled
hydraulic system. This system is no doubt (I work for the German company
that likely does the electronics) VERY complicated & probably due to the
myriad of electronic & hydraulic actuators will not be as robust or reliable
as a plain-jane manual. Manual trannies are brilliant, very robust due to
very simple design.....

I guess I should've said clutch PEDAL & not clutch. Personally, I like
being able to properly slip a clutch for autocross starts & properly do
matched-rev up & downshifts.....kinda keeps the daily grind a little
interesting--even in a mundane Saab. Yes, the SMG will do this for you, but
I think it's more fun if I get to play. I disable the ABS at the track for
the same reason....well, that & I hate flat-spotting tires. :)

I always wondered what percentage of SMG M3's never get switched out of the
"automatic" mode.....

ABS cause flat-spotting? Since when?

I bet not many, hence why they make a system that can do it all. Most people
want automatics,
even owners of $60k M3s.

Which reminds me. Anyone have a lead on Alcantara steering wheel wraps. I
asked the wheelskin people and they said they wouldn't do it. a thicker,
