The Worst App in the World

2018-04-06 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : ironcross32 via Audiogames-reflector

The Worst App in the World

This thing was made by me. It is coded in C#. If it doesn't work for you, you probably don't have the latest .NET installed. It is a sapi speak window, it has no features. You type the text, you can tab to a box where you set the rate, and there is a tab to a button that speaks it. A hotkey to make it speak the message from anywhere in the program is ALT P. You cannot change the pitch because the speech synthesizer class I referenced literally doesn't let you, so I'd have to use tolk if I wanted to do anything fancier. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the list of installed voices into a combobox for you to select.so your synth has a .GetInstalledVoices() method, I would like to populate the combo box with those voices that it finds. Problem is, the items collection only wants to take strings, not objects or methods. I don't know how to fix this. To be honest, I don't even know how I cobbled this thing together, because I cannot code.Oh, and its fugly as hell, just so ya know, if a sighted person looks at this, they'll probably go blind, or die. What's more, its actually inaccessible to sighted people, OK, they might infer that the box is where you type the text, and the speak button makes it talk, but the rate control spinbox has no label with it, so yeah, they wouldn't know, even though the screen reader reports it because I told it to, it has no actual label.I'm debating putting it up on github and seeing what people who actually know what they're doing make of it. My goal is to create an app that will allow the user to select from any installed SAPI voice on their system and use this to speak text. It should also have rate, pitch and volume sliders. Speaking of which, I couldn't find a slider in the toolbox, so I used the Spinbox instead. I guess you either have to make sliders yourself, or reference an assembly that has them in it, I have no idea. The fact that this thing works at all is a miracle. It also ought to be able to write to a wave file, which this speech class can actually do. I thought of programmatically clearing the text after each time it speaks, but I thought against it. It's easy enough to do, but you can just type over it.To leave the thing, just ALT-F4 out of it. DO, not, show it to a sighted person, you may be charged with a capital crime.

Re: planning to switch to reaper

Best places to go for help are the reaper access wiki and the RWP mailing list.  It's a great DAW though, I jumped ship from audacity a few months ago and never looked back.  It's very easy to pick up and learn, there's plenty of podcasts and help for using OSARA if you google it.

Re: Garrett's Life Emulator, The First Life emulator Ever Made!

Okay yeah, I'm not a person to be negative about a game, but... what the hell?Excuse the language, but I installed the demo, and then it did all of nothing. When I launched the game, and clicked on listen to instructions, the game automatically closed. The following time, I clicked on play. All it did, was make a bunch of noise, and the game closed.I couldn't reopen it afterwards, since the key expired. So yeah, I don't get that whatsoever, and unless someone seriously helps me to understand, I won't be purchasing that game anytime soon.

Re: learning to eddit?

As for your first issue, I don't have a fucking clue because there's no reason it shouldn't work. I'm assuming it has to be operator error because that hting always works. Make sure the time is something other than 0, and the volume is 0 but other than that, I mean, there's no reason it shouldn't work. You could mix the two files using the _expression_ evaluator, but that's a little more advanced. As to your second, it probably just got unplugged, it won't hold your mic and stuff in settings if the mic is no longer available, its not goldwave's fault, its just how sound devices work in windows. Plug the mic back in, go back into goldwave, hit F11, go to the devices tab, and re-select it.

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

Honestly I'm kinda surprised I didn't get ripped a new asshole for the end of post four... roflConnorI find that as long as an online game is easily accessible, E.G. you don't need to forward ports and the server or servers are up most of the time, than you'll have quite a few people playing simply because it's a multiplayer game, and meeting other blind people you get along with is pretty neat. Either that or their is no offline mode and they just want to be able to play the game for the sake of it.However if the game has a steep learning curve and requires some skill, you'll be losing players that were never really serious about playing it anyway left and right, and the bulk of those that remain will only come on sometimes and just sorta, exist, suckally LOL, probably to enjoy what everyone else is doing vicariously or to say they've played it.For instance, that guy that just lets him self get shot, or fires rockets and grenades then finds a bomb to blow up on in RS, or the guy that waits for ever at the prompt and always gets a super low score on Crazy Party, or someone constantly asking basic questions but never really actually putting the answers into effect either do to a language barrier or just plain impatience...Those who really stick with the strategic and skill based games and get to at least an intermediate skill level are actually surprisingly few and far between especially for less generic titles, that's why we always end up bumping into the same like ten people again and again.. .Assault FreakActually that's pretty much any FPS mainstream or not, at least at first, and if you play most of them for long enough (RTR being one of them) than you gain a core group of people you enjoy playing with, as I'm sure you've experienced your self.So yeah the newbies will just button mash but the more advanced guys will jump around at odd angles, get behind you to fire, set up quickly in ambush spots when they hear you coming and get you with the crossfire, use different weapons for various ranges depending on what they're best with, use their knowledge of the map to quickly hit all the main item spawning areas, adjust their aim constantly and use bursts while they are firing to avoid recoil ETC.And I'm talking from experience, being somewhere between intermediate and advanced in terms of skill with that game my self and having watched the top dogs on the camera, though it always takes me a bit to get my groove back when I've been gone for a while LOL.It's the same with Redspot as well, though I only ever got to an intermediate level their and not for very long. You tend to make your own fun rather than having a bunch of difficult but sequential moves to use for instance, playing stealth based or highly goal oriented missions, or having the advanced cover and raised firing positions provided by mainstream games, but it's still their for sure.

i'll tell you almost exactly whayt i'm planning and you can maybe help me from there.so i have all the sounds i need for this project.furst, i got a plain birds loop. i open that, it works good. i get my next sound, a radio or comm sound, open that, cut or copy it, go to the birds loop, place the starting marker with left bracket, and hit control m and hit ok. now it will only play the comm noise at the beggining. and if i try to get another sound after that, it takes out the comm sound and replaces it with the new sound, and about 3 seconds of the bird loop.so i d k what is going on butit ain't working.what makes this even better. the mike i'm using was working yesterday perfectly, and now it doesn't even pick up my voice.

Re: learning to eddit?

Ah that's easy, make sure the file is copied with control C, then go to the one you want to paste it into, play up to that point, then press left bracket to set your start marker there, then hit control M. When you set the start marker, it changes the time in that box for you. Then just hit OK. It's hard mixing though, just one file right into another one, no crossfading etc. You can do that, the way is control D, but its sort of weird and I don't really like it. If I'm gonna do that, I prefer to use the blend at marker option, which you 5.7 users won't have.

Re: 6 Swords - Fantasy Adventure game for Amazon Echo

That's wonderful!Haven't been playing for more than a few months myself but that doesn't bother me at all.  and can't wait to see what you pull out. The Amazon guys helping you out is a great thing to hear too.I've still got a ways to walk before I get to the premium area, but going to getthere and expect maybe to have another level on me when I arrive. Right now I'm somewhere near 1' 27" degrees east 42" north, but that's not too rough a trek.  and I should be there soon enough.also, you mentioned a while back that you only had divine gifts for the Roman gods. Has that changed? Because of my own leanings I'm a big fan of Aztec/Mesoamerican stuff myself and you said you had a region for that so was thinking of hanging around there for a while once I got into the premium world. Also some more balance commentary.I think you might want to cut the number of bugbears down in the groups they show up in. Currently I frequently find 25 or more of them in one place in many cases. They hit pretty hard for monsters that appear in that number, as several giants I've fought are about as hardy and hit about as hard. They almost always hit me with double-digit damage and things could go pretty bad with that many attacks being made at your characters. If you do some test-fighting and think I'm wrong, on the other hand might want to increase the numbers of low-end giants that show up in groups, 11 giant trolls are significantly easier to deal with than 25 bugbears and 2 bugbear leaders. But I like the slight monetarization ideas you have, particularly the option for instant resurrection after a fight if things go really bad, just for those times you think you can take the giants, enormous army of mooks, or flock of wyverns only to find the digital dice are against you and things go horribly wrong. Thanks for making such a great game and glad to hear you're getting some help from amazon on this thing.

Re: 6 Swords - Fantasy Adventure game for Amazon Echo

Re: 6 Swords - Fantasy Adventure game for Amazon Echo

I'm afraid I'm going to have to walk back some comments I made earlier!6 Swords has been invited to participate in Amazon's monetization trial. We have accepted because it also comes with a promotional package, which is what we really need to get more users into the system. We're still plotting out the changes, and since this probably won't change our decision to be non-commercial, our primary focus will still be on making a great game for the visually impaired community. At the current stage of discussion we're looking at creating a subscription model, where you pay a modest of fee (currently looking at $2 per month) for access to the premium area. Play in the regular overworld will always be free. We'll probably also look for opportunities to add in other in-game purchases. Things like if a character dies you have a resurrection option right after the battle, and things like that.We want to grandfather in existing players who have spent quality time with the game and given us valuable feedback. We're talking about something like a number of months free proportional to the time you have been playing the game. That nicely gives our most dedicated players the most time. I've got to run some numbers and see how that all adds up.We welcome any feedback on what you think would be good options!

Anyone know what this song is?

2018-04-06 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Draq via Audiogames-reflector

Anyone know what this song is?

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the heck this melody is from. First though, a bit of background.Back when I was in school, Our P.E. teacher would allow us to bring music to play while we were exercising. A fellow student would bring in an album which included a song with this melody in it. When I asked him what it was, he just said it was goth metal. Since there are many, many bands that are considered goth metal, that doesn't help much.So here's a bit of the melody that I remember. This was back in either 2001 or 2002, so I may or may not be remembering it correctly. Also the wacky quality is due to me using a website that can convert audio files to MIDI and humming into the microphone. The thing picks up even the slightest variation, so echos and such will make things go nuts.

Re: Bookworms: what are you reading/listening to now?

Oh my, The Tommyknockers, King really dropped a bollock there. His genius shines through here and there, but there's a ton of bulk, and the main storyline and central characters just don't hold enough interest to compensate. He gave so much page-room to characters I really couldn't give a stuff about, and the one person who had any kind of spark was a villain, and she was dead within five minutes of turning up. By King standards Tommyknockers was a bit of a stinker. King at his best though is definitely one of those writers who makes the little spin-off side-stories every bit as enjoyable to read as the main thrust. When he's really on form it's like having extra little novelettes to read inside the main book.

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

Hello folks! Well, it is a fact that teens, in most cases are still looking for a social niche. And this is what tend to lead them to look for groups, so they can feel part of something. NRecently the most commom way to achieve that is through online gaming. It may not be all the reasons behind the fact, but I believe this may explain at least a bit. And ofcourse, people may have other reasons for playing only besides that.Best regards, Haramir.

Hi Liam. I'm really sorry to hear you've not been well and medication is proving a pain. I do hope things get stabilised and that the medication is actually doing its job and dealing with said problem if you've got to go through so much nastiness. I certainly sympathise myself from personal experience since I've definitely been in the position of having medication that interferes with creative projects before and that state is far from fun.At the same time I will freely admit that yes, I'm looking forward to Brain station, particularly since I think it is something Mrs. dark and I will enjoy together whenever it is released, your games are always loads of fun and very playable, indeed I replayed superliam quite recently just for fun, and its really awesome Lworks is still up and developing after so many years.

Lol Mrs. Dark did say today that it seems we've been married for a long time, now I understand why . Fortunately I can annoy the high council of gallifrey by editing time very easily and not needing to care if the universe implodes or not as a consequence, muahahahaha!Well went to see my new singing teacher today since the old one retired. unfrotuantely since today was mainly assessment and chat I can't say what she's going to be like. My previous teacher was wonderful, albeit she was very tough and pushed me into doing more than    thought I could, this lady doesn't seem quite as extreme, but then again today was mainly just seeing  my voice was like. One nice thing is that now we're in newark it'll be easier to get to lessons  we should be able to have them consistantly every couple of weeks which will be very good for focusing attention back on my singing and having me learn more music as indeed I need to do. not unfortunately much else to report beyond more reading of the stand, which I'm finding good, if king's attitude towards women and female characters is mildly getting on my nurves, and more of my lady and I reading oathbringer. Gaming wise I am not sure what to try next, though I like the fact the current crazy party release has restored capability of single element decks by the rule about having a hand with more cards of a given elemental type doing more damage in that type, though I do need to sit down and construct some other decks.

Re: Bookworms: what are you reading/listening to now?

Tad williams is very good at the hole subplots thing. I will say some are more interesting than others at times, but thats the mark of a good author, its not actually surprising that Williams is one of George R R Martin's idles, there's even an amusing nod to MS in one of the game of thrones books in which your told about a nightly house who's standard is three swords and a dragon, where the two sons are Joshua and Elias ;D. I don't tend to find subplots bother me if they go! somewere. My major problem with subplots is when you've been forced to follow a character and there actions and there is no payoff, or the thing just peter's out mid flow as unfortunately does happen in some of steven King's earlier books (the tommyknockers in particular i remember as quite bad for this, though the stand doesn't seem to be).

I guess you might be able to call me a kid, I'm 18 and I can do a lot of things now because of that but I guess my brain hasn't developed as much as it will, and won't until I'm 25 or whatever age they say that is. I personally like online games, or rather, liked online games. Regardless of strategy which Conner pointed out, (BTW that is a good point,) there's still a level of mindlessness to these games. Sure, in Crazy Party you do have to think a little bit when trying to pick a card, but it's not like some of these games that people want to see like city simulators and stuff like that. Me personally, I like to have games where you're not having to think a lot, because after all that is what games are for right? Now, I'm not saying I won't play games like that every once in a great while because I will, but generally I just like to play stuff mindlessly. I haven't gotten into online games recently, mainly because I can't find any good ones anymore. Keep in mind that this is all just my opinion, feel free to disagree if you'd like.

Hey all!First of all, I know that I'm super super super late, I probably couldn't have been any later, and I don't think anyone is going to read this, Haha, but I just got around to registrering a few days ago, even though I've been Reading this topic since it had like 100 posts, or something. I still couldn't resist though, and felt like I just had to share how much I love this game With everyone. So Yeah, I truely love this game. I've had about 5 or 6 playthroughs, but still, I find myself constently playing more and more and more. I can't get enough of this game. I love Learning about my manamon, their many cool abilities, moves and transformations. and my favorite part is the snowstar part and the Irroadium Battle. I love the Irroadium Music! It's so eppic! And that feeling when you've travvled for many hours through what seams like an endless mountain, Cave or feeld With ruins, and Your intire party is dead except one, who has like one healthpoint left, and you  finally hear the Wind chimes or gate to the Next city, and finally can go to the hotel and fully heel Your party, know what I'm talking about? Yeah, that feeling is just awesome, nothing more. So, Yeah, felt like I just had to share my thoughts on this game, even though I know Aaron is probably never gonna read it. Haha. And if you are Reading this, I'd just like to thank you for such an awesome game, I can't wait untill the Next VGStorm game comes out!Keep up the great work, Aaron! You rock!

Re: The audio game you've played more than any other?

My favorite games tend to change after something new comes out. A game comes out and I'll play it for weeks until I complete it or get bored. In recent memory, AHC comes to mind, with the majority of my playtime coming during the private beta phase, though I also played quite a bit after release. I also got seriously addicted to Audio Strike. I was grinding at that game for a few weeks, a few hours a day until I completed it and recently I came back to it to buy out all the upgrades for a ship. The thing I've been consistently coming back to, even with all the other stuff coming out, is crazy party. The replay value is there with the on-line multiplayer and the community around the game is also really nice with very little toxicity. Plus Pragma keeps coming out with new versions of the game that keep adding new cards which can completely change the balance. I'm part of the Skype group and love to pop into games when someone announces they're hosting one. Then on the iOS side, maybe this isn't so much an audio game but I also keep coming back to dice world. It's a great game because I can literarly play it whenever I have time, so it's become part of my rutine. When I wake up  all the notifications are waiting for me so I take my turns, and then I keep coming back to it when I have a few minutes IE while waiting for something or when I have a break at work. The game is pretty good at selecting active players for random games so I often get a few challenges every few weeks without even starting games myself, though I also do it if it gets too quiet.

None. I learned about audio games years after I started playing mainstream games and while I've played many audio games I just don't find them enjoyable enough to stick to them long term. The mainstream games I played the most are dragon ball z budokai 3 on ps2, the naruto storm games on ps3 and ps4 and now dragon ball fighters z.

Well, good news so far:1. 1st of all, maybe there indeed was some account-verification I missed noticing, since from now on, I don't need to copy/paste that key and the JAVA-command into my VIP client anymore. It's enough to login on the Cimatronics page, (Firefox only, due supporting Java), select my character, and "go play".Then I can simply start the VIP client, select my character for Dragon Realms from the connection-list, and the game starts running.2. I couldn't find any active mentors yet, but could easily leave my starting town, through it's north gate even, which leads to a monster-infected forest, so I have encountered no movement-limitations so far.(plus, players leave and enter the town in every few seconds, so the community is indeed large, the online statistic doesn't lie...this time)

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

I don't like most of the FPS's we have nowadays. They all come down to who has the least life. What I mean by that is, someone with nothing else to do will spend 9+ hours grinding, hoarding, etc. Then if you come in as a newbie, you get dominated and there's nothing you can do. Factor in trying to learn the game with getting shot every 2 minutes, where's the fun in that. Then, when you do get a shot off, or two or 5 or even 10, they have so much health / armor / protection, you haven't dented them. Now, games like RTR, I'm not good at either, but its skill based, so fine, I just suck. But at least with that one its you versus your opponent, not you versus some hopped up person that just spent the last 14 hours grinding.

I've played many, but my favorite game of all time is either crazy party, manamon or Adventure at c:. The one I've played the most is definitly Adventure at c:, my save file has been played over 13 days and Three hours! I've made over 50 stages. It's so funny listening to me playing as like a ten year old, because, for some very weird reason, my friend and I couldn't hear the difference between a corrupt sector and an item! Roflflfl, don't ask how, seriously, [[wow]]. We would find an item, and then sit there for like 20 minutes trying to find out if it was an item or a corrupt sector! At the end, we would always just decide not to take the risck, so we just jumped over it. I couldn't find out how to Complete the Levels because I never got any items. LOL. Yeah, as you probably can tell, Adventure at c: is definitly one of my favorite games of all time, and I've had so so much fun With it. Anyway, enough talking from me

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

@6 I've spent enouh time both on xbl and psn to know that while there is rampent immaturity there, as well as all the other communities Defender mentioned, there is something different about the nature of the drama that goes on in the blind gaming community. Defender put it wel when he said that a big part of it is size, and the fact that many people who are blind already feel a sense of entitlement and that the world owes them something after putting them in a shity spot like being blind, especially in third world or less developed countries. Even in developed countries like the US and Canada, there are entitled blind people everywhere... and unfortunately the young kids who get everything handed to them are the ones that most reflect that attitude in gaming online. This leads to so much infighting it explains why we don't have examples of *quality* online games, or why so many games developed by younger folks that try and emulate fps games end up being simple point and shoot fests which comes down to how many rounds of amo you happen to have in your current weapon. As CAE put it, it's about quick satisfaction... until they get bored, or the only satisfaction they get is killing newbies because that's the only fun to be had anymore. But the mainstream community certainly has its own toxicity...

Re: My Google Home Max adventures

I looked at Google Play Music, Spotify, and Pandora, and since I couldn't see any real difference, even in price, since I already had a Google account because I use GMail, I decided to go with Google Play Music. All three services start you off with a free 30 day trial, so I'm not committed. I found irritation with Google Play Music, when I signed up, it asked me to choose my favorite genres and artists, I decided to give that some thought, and figuring that I could always come back to it later, skipped it, only to find out later that there seems to be no way back to those settings.I found it, on a web page with an article about Google Play Music tips & tricks, was a link that allows you to repeat those set up questions about your favorite genres and artists. Her it is:https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#/uqg

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

hi, I don't agree with the fact that younger people prefer to play online games because they require less strategy. Firstly, there are online games out there that I know are played by young kids which do require a lot of planning and tactics. Take for example things like crazy party's battle mode, or good old sound rts possibly with the crazy mod attached. Also, someone who I can't remember said that fps games are prefered by young people because they don't require much thinking, that is also flawed. Yes, it may be true for the blind community, and especially for recent games such as redspot, the killer and other games of the same sort. However it is not true of older titles such as rtr in which there was no such thing as item hoarding, and broot force would often be your downfall rather than your ticket to kills, and it is most definitely not true of mainstream shooters, which factor in a lot of things such as terrain, weapon types, armor, aiming, platforming and other elements that our games often don't have.

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

Online games are potato chips. They're engineered to keep you wanting more, but in terms of social nutrition, they make you feel like you're consuming something satisfying but they just make you hungrier. ... I struggle to find a way to phrase this that isn't overgeneralizing, and I loathe overgeneralizing. -_- I like this explanation because it focuses on culturally independent things like addiction and social health. I never would have made the connection to trolls and power-gluttons on my own, but it hits the same points for them as for the bored and lonely, in this sense, doesn't it? I'm not really sure.

Re: Trying to understand the sound_pool metod

Allright, so it seems the sound pool is not very compatible with... my way of working so I've decided to skip it. My question is, does anyone know  any metod for positioning the sound in relation with the player? For example, I have the enemy and the player on a  side scroller map, and I want the enemy to be heard left, center or right in relation to the player. Also, please, any tricks for the sounds not to be cut anymore when another one is plaied? When the enemy attacks, my footsteps aren't heard anymore  until the attack ends.

Re: cisco Packet Tracer?

@quanin, oh, it crashed a lot for me too. Never figured out why, though! VIRL is basically this full-on virtual server that allows you to set up virtual routers and switches in pretty much any configuration you like. I have no idea why Cisco doesn't recommend it in their courses; I've found that it can pretty much do most, if not all, of what packet tracer can do, plus more. I shutdown my instance though -- its $200.00 for the initial license, then I set up my instance on Packet, which was an additional $37.00 or so.

Re: Marshall passed away

I talked to him on TT a lot and played with him. I was in the MI on CR and he had to be one of the best RPers I've ever met. He was a fantastic person to talk to though: he was able to joke around, able to be serious... just enough of many things that you'd know that, by talking to him, you'd actually get somewhere. I'll miss him, I really will. When we talked, we talked for quite a while on various things. We'd never stay on one subject. I abandoned CR for various reasons, and never visited their TT server after that. Now I feel bad for not visiting in and saying high to him at least.

Re: Why most kids prefer and care about online games? A topic to discuss

From what I've noticed, most of people start playing online games because of the following 3 reasons.1. They're bored, and they have nothing to do, so they'll just stick on something that will let them be busy for a long period.2. They like controlling people, or just they like to have power, so they'll actually try to go in an online FPS, and running for an high position or becoming the most powerfull player just for bitching with people.3. they're just depressed in their life, and they're actually on games for trying to get new friends, or just socialize with blind people like them. This is my opinion, feel free to say that what I said was a shitty wrong thing.

Re: Marshall passed away

And to think, I accidentally wiped one of his hundred room ships. Yes, I heard about this on twitter and fb. He had been talking about the surgery for a while now, he was scared. He told me that several members of his family had died due to complications of Marfan's syndrome. He needed the surgery, I think it was to correct something in his aorta, but I know he was scared for a while, about a month leading up to it. It's a shame. We weren't real good friends, but we talked. I'm not gonna say everything was fantastic. I think under all his exterior faults, he was a good guy, but he was snappish, short-tempered, etc.BTW, if you think what I said above was breaking confidence, it wasn't, he talked about that stuff to anyone and everyone who'd listen on teamtalk etc. I don't break confidence, if someone tells me something they wish to not be public, I'll take it to the grave.Anyway, I saw that yesterday and was taken a back. Sad really, he was afraid for his life and he had to die in that surgery. This is why I don't trust the medical profession, and why I'll never have surgery unless its pretty dire, I just don't trust it. They may never know what happened, what went wrong.
