RE: CFMX 6.1 developer edition?

2003-08-14 Thread Lee Fuller
Actually it does. I haven't tried it. But it did.

[ If I remember correctly you won't get the opportunity to go
[ to JRun/J2EE with an update to 6.1 with the developer
[ edition, but yes the developer edition still exists. You can
[ even tell the installer that that is what you want during the
[ install. ;o)

Does the developer edition still exist with CFMX 6.1? Still from an expired
trial version of CFMX Enterprise? Do we get the option to go JRun/J2EE with
the trial? Should we update our existing CFMX 6.0 developer editions with
the 6.1 updater? Do we get the option to go JRun/J2EE if we do this? (So
many questions . . .) Thanks!

SOT: Correct way to match a record with a list in one field?

2003-07-01 Thread Lee Fuller
Ok guys.. Thinking caps: ON

Have an nvarchar field in the database with data like: 1,3,9,12,2,51

Have a formfield with single number (not digit) data, like: 1 or 12 --
single whole numbers, maybe more than 1 digit.

Now, would like to do something like this:

SELECT EmailAddr, RecipientID
FROMSupportEmailRecipient
WHERE SubjectID IN ('#FORM.SubjectID#)

It ain't workin... Need to see if the data from the formfield is IN the data
in the table's record.

Help?

 My problem:

I have 3 types of documents:

PDFS, .CFM Static Files and Database Content

I need to index all three into '1' collection that can be
 searched.

PDF's on Linux cannot be directly indexed, so I am using
pdf2txt to convert them to a shadow directory of files
labelled: filename.pdf.txt... and then just stripping
the .txt off the result to link to the actual PDF.

 *** *** ***

Can I combine these into 1 search somehow? Can I take my
index (created with the CF Admin of the shadowed PDF's
in their directories) and insert the results into a
database somehow? Has somebody done something like
this and they're selling/sharing the perfect solution?

I might be missing something, but the short answer is yes, you can index all
three into a single collection:

cfindex action=refresh collection=col1 type=file
path=/path/to/pdf.txt ...

cfindex action=update collection=col1 type=file
path=/path/to/staticfiles ...

cfquery name=qStuff ...
SELECT fields FROM table_to_search
/cfquery

cfindex action=update collection=col1 type=custom query=qStuff ...

Or, you could index them into three separate collections, and search them
all at once:

cfsearch ... collection=col1,col2,col3

Typically, you wouldn't want to use CFINDEX to index .cfm files, though -
you'd either index the database content used within those files, or you'd
use the Verity spider (vspider).

OT (But Important): In Honor...

2003-02-01 Thread Lee Fuller
It is truly a sad day for this country, and for the world. We've lost 7
very brave and honorable people. I simply wanted to express my sorrow and
shock at the tragedy of this morning. I happened to have met several of the
members of this crew due to special function we jointly attended. So this
brings this shock even closer to home.

To the crew of Columbia...

We will miss you all, and will never forget who you are and what you stand
for. Thanks for being part of making our country great. I know that *I*
will strive to be worthy of your efforts.

To the family of the crew members...

All I can say is that you should be VERY proud. Hold your head up while you
morn. They deserve it.

-

On a personal note, I suggest that each of us send a donation to our
favorite charity in the names of:

Rick Husband
William McCool
Michael Anderson
Kalpana Chawla
David Brown
Laurel Clark
Ilan Ramon

... then go hug your kids, wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend, father,
mother, sisters or brothers, and even you best friend. Tell them that you
love them, and remember that it only takes moments -- to end a life or to
brighten a life. Brighten one before it ends.

Microsoft Bashing - Was: RE:SQL Worm

2003-01-26 Thread Lee Fuller
This needs to go off to some other place.

However, I wonder why people say this. It's VERY easy to arm chair
quarterback. But not so easy to run a multi-billion dollar corporation with
hundreds of thousands of employees, hundreds of products and being in
virtually every part of the world.

At any rate.. Let's take this somewhere else.. It's not tech oriented around
CF.

| its not that all their programs are bad but a majority of

RE: Application.cfm

2003-01-21 Thread Lee Fuller
Application.cfm is read on the load of each and every CFM page within the
same directory as the Application.cfm page, and below that directory.

Upon running a CFM page, CF looks for an application.cfm page in the same
dir. If it doesn't find one, it traverses up to the next level of dir and
looks for one there. It will keep going up dirs until it finds one.
Nothing adverse will happen if you DON'T have one. However, if you need to
load specific info into each page, that is a way you can do it.

It is NOT recommended that you use the application.cfm for things like
general calculations, etc. Only things that are required -- and keep it to
a minimum. Otherwise, you're simply loading things on each CFM page load
that aren't really needed... which can, of course, cause a performance hit.
It all depends on what you're loading, and how.

| :
| : Hello CF-Talk community:
| :
| : For the last year or so I've been working on an
| application called
| : Visual FusionC (Patent pending). The application is basically a
| : program that takes ColdFusion coding to the next level
| and allows you to
| : create stand-alone applications written in ColdFusion
| (CFML) code. The
| : application works exactly like Visual Basic, but powered

| : idea is to allow ColdFusion developers the ability to

| : The other thing about this application is that it will also be an

| :
| : I wanted to see the reaction for such an application and

RE: web beacons

Yep.. One of the ways that spammers, these days, collect info on valid email
addresses when using HTML email campaigns. You simply view the email, and
BAM.. they know your email address is good.

|
| You can add a parameter the the src of the gif file in the
| html email you send him as such:
|
| img src=http://www.myserver.com/image.cfm?id=145;
|
| Then in the source... Of image.cfm, something like this

RE: web beacons

2003-01-13 Thread Lee Fuller
| You don't even have to view the mail if the gif is near/at
| the top and the
| user has something like Eudora's message preview pane set.
| (But then
| again, how many of the target demographics have even heard of
| Eudora ;-)

Actually, you'd be surprised. It's really targetted TO people that use
things like Eudora or Outlook with the preview pane on. Those are the
people who pay attention to things and deal with the net in a more
sophisticated way. Those who typically don't (per the demo's) aren't really
going to buy anyway.

| OTOH, for legit opt-in mail, the message preview pane can
| also give a false
| (too high) indication of how many messages were read.

Actually, that's easily filtered out by simply stopping further data
additions after the first in the code logic. Simple to manage.

Hello Christian.. And Welcome!

I'd like to jump in and make one suggestion for the reskit. I'm very
interested in seeing a component that would build entire sites for us,
quickly and simply. Something like CF_BuildSite. With options
including detail, look, ecommerce, etc. Including support as a
tag would be great... Like:

cf_buildsite detail=medium look=corporate eccommerce=yes
automanaged=youbet

Something along those lines?

evil grin

But seriously... Welcome aboard!

RE: MS CF?

2002-12-23 Thread Lee Fuller
Kinda.. That is unless they simply decided to scrap it in favor of the
next best thing since sliced bread in which case it'd be dead forever.
Of course, you could always go back to school.. ;)

| You can sit here and complain that MS is the bad guy, but
| they are not the company you have put your faith in. I know I
| have the unpopular view on this list as anti-MM, but I can
| tell you that if MS owned Flash, you wouldn't have to worry

| could rest assured that the technology and education you put
| into MS will still be viable in 20 years. Which is something
| only a fool would say about Cold Fusion or Flash which are
| both still in their relative adolescence.

Don't agree. MM's still here. CF is still here. Flash is still here.
We're all still working with languages that are both supported and
growing. Simply don't agree.

| Quite frankly, MS offers developers security. Something that
| MM and Allaire have failed quite miserably at (IMO).

Agreed. That would be logical. Anyone taking bets? Mine's on Apple.
ducking - and no I don't use MACs

| Rest assured though, we will probably not fall to the evil
| empire. If acquiring MM is a bid to diminish J2EE, I would
| expect IBM or Sun to offer a merger to counter an MS
| acquisition. After all, they both seemed to have invested a
| great deal in Cold Fusion and its J2ee developers.

Totally agree.

| Although I still tell every CF developer I meet to learn a
| new language. Bottom line is that a broader skill set is
| never a detriment.

RE: OT: AOL?

2002-12-18 Thread Lee Fuller
Ya know.. Don't let them hit you with that.

The problem is, new sysadmins tend to think that making changes is part
of their job. We had a MAJOR battle with HUD since one of our customers
submits information to them via email regularly. Suddenly, they could
not contact HUD, due to a policy change by a new admin who decided that
if the email server didn't reverse to the same domain name, it was
most-likely SPAM. The problem is (as you are most likely aware) that
with 1000's of domain names on a single mail server, how could you
POSSIBLY reverse to them? Even if you added all the reverse names to
your DNS server manually, it would never answer with the right one
first.. So it's not logical.

We have to force them to understand that THEY are not the ONLY ISP on
the planet... and that making willy-nilly admin decisions effects
millions. If we fight back, they will change the policy.

Just my .02...

RE: OT: AOL?

2002-12-18 Thread Lee Fuller
Correct. I was going to mention that myself. SMTP-AUTH really checks
to see if a sender is an authorized user by matching the username and
password with what is in the DB for that user. If it matches, it allows
the SMTP traffic to pass. Otherwise, it denies it. This doesn't really
have anything to do with RDNS.

As for entering everything in the reverse zone, we've tried that. And
unfortunately several of those systems that use RDNS to protect against
SPAM are not doing so by name (or the HELO listing), but rather by IP.
Therefore, we found that unless that same domain (the one in the from
header) is the first one that the name server answers to when asked for
RDNS, than it will reject it as invalid.

RE: IIS on WinXP Pro

2002-12-11 Thread Lee Fuller
Al,

WinXP is a consumer level operating system, not a server level OS.
There are no plans to support IIS in any other format than single site
for the XP OS.

However, Apache may run on XP, especially if you use Cygwin
(www.cygwin.com). I have not tried it.. But it may work.

|
|
| Hey everyone I need some help,
|
| I think this is an IIS issues, but am unsure. We are setting
| up duel NT/MX boxes with several web sites and it looks like
| this (sorry if you're not using a fixed width)
|
|  +===+
| | load bal |
| /+===+\

| box1+==+box2+==+

| +==++==+

|  +===+
| | cfm files |
|  +===+
|
| This issues is - if we save a file in site A (fileA.cfm) -
| the file shows up for site B as well - sometimes. It is NOT
| in the directory for site B. It seems to be cached between
| sites some how. Even if I do ip addresses:
|
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/fileA.cfm (siteA)
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/fileA.cfm (siteB)

that gives the same file - sometimes. But, again it is not in the root
of site B.

We have checked the mappings in IIS several (thousand) times, and it
looks right (mapped to different directories on the cfm files box (non
unc)) and the load balancer does no caching (so sayth the salesman).

I know this isn't enough information for a lot of help, but I am not
allowed to give more. If anyone could suggest anything to check - I
would be very appreciative.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

RE: CFMX Server Crash #4 for the day..

2002-12-04 Thread Lee Fuller
Sean,

Actually, the problem is not unusual at all. We're one of many who
have (on this list and in the forums on MM) been having similar issues.
There are several threads going on about it now, and MM's already got at
least one person working on the issues.

The reality, however, is that it's only under what appear to be certain
circumstances that it causes these issues. It appears to be related to
SQL, or other DB, connectivity. The problem is, however, that it causes
the server to be brought to it's knees, which shouldn't happen. It
needs to monitor and manage itself more precisely. And his statement
about it not being production ready, in my never-to-be-too-humble
opinion, is actually correct.

Under load, it performs fine, so long as the problems you see us
complaining about don't start to occur. And since it's on different
types of systems, with different configurations, it's hard to say that
it's a simple bug that is too rare to worry about. (I know you're not
saying that.. I'm just pointing that out.)

At any rate, this is far more widespread than you might think. I know
of at least two other companies that are now moving from CF to other
languages due to the instabilities. Several others that refuse to now
(and most likely will never) upgrade to CFMX... No matter what happens.

You may not have seen all the info that was put out on this list about
these problems. However, they're not rare.. unfortunately.

Lee

| Since they are using SQL the timeout attribute is supported

RE: CFMX Server Crash #4 for the day..

2002-11-28 Thread Lee Fuller
Exactly. I was just thinking of that after I responded to Mike's
comment.

REALITY:

- CFMX quite simply does not monitor itself and it's
connectivity thoroughly enough.
- It can be easily killed, with improper programming.
- It has less control (via the admin panel) than previous
versions, where it comes to dealing with things like, for example, this
SQL timeout issue.
- They now know about it, and are (more than likely) working
hard now to recode some things, add a few features and tweak yet others
to make the next SP release handle some of this.

soapbox

AGAIN: (And I repeat this for the benefit of those who see only my
response to one of the many threads on this topic and don't clearly
realize where I, and many others, stand on this issue) I cannot stress
enough that I am NOT bashing CFMX. I'm simply pointing out reality, in
the hope that we can continue to utilize this fantastic product in a
true production environment without running the risk of having our
servers die every 10 minutes -- WHICH HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES.

/soapbox

| And how would one do that for the queries for client variables (which
| are handled by CF in the background)?

Actually.. I should rephrase that statement... Thanks Jochem. (I need
to remember to be careful when I state things this way -- since it may
give the wrong impression.)

What I should have said is:

It has more features, yet it does not have the control that is should
over these new features. Things like monitoring non-dying or out of
control threads, etc. Also, vars -- there we a few things in the var
controls on previous versions that is not there now. I'd have to go
back over my notes to find them. But there were posts about these not
too long ago.

Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for pointing it out.

RE: Random Item Selection

2002-11-28 Thread Lee Fuller
Sure..

- Generate a random number between 1 and the number of categories.
Store that in a var, say myCatNum.
- Generate a random number between 1 and the number of items in the
randomly generated category. Store that in a var, say myItemNum
- Identify (in your db) each category with a number, beginning with 1.
- Identify (in your db) each item in a category with a number, beginning
with 1.
- Create a query that pulls the appropriate item from the appropriate
category. Something like:

SELECT whateverfieldyouwant
FROMmyTable
WHERE categorynumber = #myCatNum# and
itemnumber = #myItemNum#

This, of course, assumes that all items are stored in one table.. Not a
table for each category.

RE: CFMX Server Crash #4 for the day..

2002-11-27 Thread Lee Fuller
Brian (and Everyone)

We have thoroughly beat this issue up, and found it simply to be that
CFMX poorly manages runaway conditions. It's really just that simple.

Locking doesn't change it, since we have sites that use absolutely no
session, client or other persistent vars, and yet the run out of
control.

I appears to be DB related -- either due to driver issues/errors, or
server discussions. However, in any event, CFMX can (and will -- as
we've seen numerous times) run out of control, only to finally become
unresponsive.

The information I've provided as a perfmon work-around has keep the
wolves at bay. But the reality is that they are right outside the door,
and any crack lets them in -- with a vengeance.

At any rate.. The theory is that the latest SP will fix some of the
issues. But in reality, this is truly a design issue -- one that will
require somewhat of a redesign on how CFMX services manage themselves,
report/handle errors and runaway conditions, etc. As we all know, the
Restart Server on X Unresponsive Requests simply has never worked.

So here we are... Waiting and hoping for a quick resolution. And
again.. DON'T GET ME WRONG -- I TRULY WISH to continue supporting CFMX.
I do believe that it is a powerful, flexible and scalable language --
albeit a bit Sponge Bob'ish right now. grin

There seems to be something to this issue.. Which we have noted in the
thread I mentioned in an earlier post from MM's forum. When SQL (2K or
7) is on the same box, this tends not to happen. However, I recall that
we had at least one instance of it occuring regardless of the fact that
SQL was on the same box. (Brook, can you confirm/deny this for me? I
thought you were involved in that convo.) At any rate, it DOES appear
to be DB/DB Driver related. How, specifically, I don't know. And so
far, neither does anyone else, from what I have heard/seen/read.

| sites on the boxes run fine. Even under load. So I for one
| say 'CFMX
| is ready for production. (just build your site to take advantage of
| it)'. I would and do recommend it for anyone looking to build a web
| app.
|
| We launched a pretty good site that was half CFMX, half CF5
| less than a
|
| month after CFMX's release date. No updater was available and we had
| no problems. The network load-balancing solution our client had
| selected went down before the CF servers did under load.
|
| We had 200 simulateous requests chugging along on our Win2k
| server with
|
| IIS5. If your server is crashing at 6 I'd check your code first and
| stop complaining about the server. Something bigger seems
| to be going
| on.
|
| If you upgraded from 5, then did you test your app before hand? Any
| load testing would have brought this problem up.
|
| Good luck,
|

| Subject: CFMX Server Crash #4 for the day..
|
|
| Well, our CFMX server just crashed for the 4th time today.
| I've had the
|
| perfmon open all day and have been watching the traffic. We had an
| average of 12 connections when the running requests started
| to grow and
|
| grow. As I
| mentioned in my previous post, there were 3 running requests
| that had
| not finished for hours. As far as the number of CFMX
| request, as I was
| watching
| it, it never went above 6. This really means there was a max of 3
| running
| requests (on top of the 3 that were already dead), it would
| go up to 6
| and
| then back down to 3. Those 3 threads weren't going anywhere.
|
| Then I noticed that the running requests was growing
| incrementally, so
| I
|
| tried to make an HTTP request to the serverand it did
| not respond.
| I
|
| checked the running requests, and there was one more. The server was
| DEAD, HUNG, FINISHED - KAPUT.
|
| The Perfmon counter restarted jrun when the running requests reached
| 10,
|
| and the server came back to life. Thank you Lee Fuller for this
| temporary fix.
|
| What is Macromedia doing about this? CFMX is not ready for
| production.
| If your sales of CFMX are not what you expected, there's a fairly
| obvious reason why. I certainly, based on my experience, would not
| recommend (and I
| think anyone running CFMX would agree) anyone to switch to
| CFMX anytime
| soon. Unless you have plenty of spare time to baby sit your server.

RE: CFMX Server Crash #4 for the day..

2002-11-27 Thread Lee Fuller
Absolutely. That's something we tested, and it did seem to make a
slight difference. It did not stop things like cyclical calls to a page
-- which, in reality, do happen and should be managed by the server...
rather than simply being brought to it's knees.

| Piling up some assumptions:
|
| First of all, CF MX will wait indefinitely for database queries to
| return if there is a problem in the JDBC driver or the database that
| does not return an error condition. This will add to the
| running request
| number as well as eat 1 client access licence from the
| dataabse server. This means that following request will have
| less threads to work with,
| and have to open a new databse connection. Eventually, this database
| connection also breaks. Next client access license + thread eaten.
| Process repeats itself until the maximum number of allowed
| requests is
| reached.
|
| Some way to test this scenario would be to disable connection
| pooling.
| Then you should be able to see on the database side how long
| connections
| stay open. If they stay open past the longest query, you found the
| problem.
| Another option would be to try and limit the amount of connections to
| the database to something less as the restart threshold. Then
| you would
| start to see timeouts from queries not being able to get a database
| connection before the server actually crashes.

That's just the point, it doesn't work. And to my knowledge it has
*never* worked in any version of CF. Certainly not that I could ever
see. The server could be brought down thru DOS attacks. And
essentially, this is what is happening -- albeit not on purpose.

| At any rate.. The theory is that the latest SP will fix some of the
| issues. But in reality, this is truly a design issue --
| one that will
| require somewhat of a redesign on how CFMX services manage
| themselves,
| report/handle errors and runaway conditions, etc. As we
| all know, the
| Restart Server on X Unresponsive Requests simply has never worked.
|
| I think the current behaviour is OK, as long as the Restart
| Server on X
| Unresponsive Requests works. I never have that many hung
| threads so I
| can't confirm or deny.

RE: Payment Gateways? (Was: OPINIONS: PayFlow Pro and CF Integration?)

2002-11-22 Thread Lee Fuller
 about is
| their Fraud
| Protection system. From my knowledge (and I've used
| the CSI API in
| several projects) and according the the API
| documentation available
| online, this system just blocks an end-user from attempting to
| charge
| credit cards if they've had repeated failures. The key
| here is that
| it uses the _end user's_ (the person submitting a credit
| card to the
| merchants site -- the web browser) IP. This IP is sent to the
| gateway
| server from the client API. It's very simple to write a program
| which
| charges a whole bunch of cards and makes the API think
| each one came
| from a different IP (especially since the IP is just one of the
| items
| in the struct you pass to the client API). Obviously, the Fraud
| Protection provided by the gateway server is not meant
| to prevent a
| fraudulent merchant -- it is made to prevent fraudulent
| customers
| from
| fooling legitimate merchants. In this scenario, you
| _would be_ the
| merchant and therefore not subject to fraud checks.
|
| At this point, I had given up. I have a hard time
| understanding how
| it's not a security problem for me to be able to pose as the
| merchant. Even if I can't refund my card, I can cause a lot of
| unwanted trouble by charging cards, etc.
|
|
|
| == Summary ==
| Unprotected Digital Certificates (no passphrase) that
| establish the
| identity of a merchant are sent via unencrypted email,
| along with
| the
| merchants Store Name. Someone with access to the
| LinkPoint API
| could
| use this information to pose as the merchant and have
| access to all
| of
| the same functions and information as the merchant
| (charge a card,
| etc).

2002-11-18 Thread Lee Fuller
Just need a java script that will change the value of the Address bar.
Not the status bar.

RE: Quick change address bar value script anyone?

2002-11-18 Thread Lee Fuller
Yeah, I thought that may be the answer. Hence nothing about it readily
available anywhere that I could find.

And it's really not for that.. It's for hiding bad pages when a 404
happens. But that's ok. It wasn't critical. Just thought someone
might have the answer.

Thanks!

Lee

| You can't change the address bar with Javascript. The
| closest thing I can come up with (if you're worried about URL

| You could use persistent scope variables to store any info

RE: Missing Template Handler...

2002-11-16 Thread Lee Fuller
Actually, I just found it. Sheesh...

In CFMX, there's a basic mapping to / which points to the root of the
IIS default web site. If you put a 404.cfm file in there, and then set
this to /404.cfm.. It works.

And.. I solved the problem of dynamic 404 redirects using this setting.
I just created, within the /404.cfm file:

cfhttp url=http://#cgi.SERVER_NAME#/404.cfm/
cfoutput#cfhttp.FileContent#/cfoutput

That way.. If they have a 404.cfm file, it'll display it. If not.. It
does the standard 404 error.

Of course, this only works for .CFM files. The .HTM (and other) files
are handled by the Custom Errors setting in IIS.

RE: Missing Template Handler...

And actually.. If you follow my previous advice.. Your CFMX server will
be brought to it's knees, if the 404.cfm file for the client's site
doesn't exist.

Instead, use this:

===

cfset position = listlen('#cgi.path_translated#', '\')
cfset urltrans = #listdeleteat('#cgi.path_translated#', '#position#',
'\')#

cfif FileExists(#urltrans#\404.cfm)

cfhttp url=http://#cgi.SERVER_NAME#/404.cfm/
cfoutput#cfhttp.FileContent#/cfoutput

cfelse

Whatever you want here .. Could be html code or whatever

/cfif

===

Works fine and will check to make sure the file exists first.

RE: secure email...

2002-11-16 Thread Lee Fuller
Imail is reliable, and fairly stable. It has some decent features, and
works well under a fair load.

We've used it for many years, and like it. Although, it seems to be
getting more and more expensive.

We are also running MailMax from www.smartmax.com on a couple of
servers. Their web-based interface is prettier than the Imail one (even
with KillerWebMail templates installed and modified), but it lacks some
of the features of Imail's web mail interface language.

Just my .02...

404 Error Handling Code (Was: RE: Missing Template Handler)

2002-11-16 Thread Lee Fuller
Ok.. So now I've found that my previous code would not work for
sub-dir's.. So I rewrote it...

Use as follows:

- Place the code below into a 404.cfm file, located in the wwwroot of
the default site on the IIS5/CFMX server.
- Set the Missing Template Handler in CFMX to /404.cfm
- Your clients can then put a file called 404.cfm into the root of
their websites, which will be displayed if the server cannot find the
CFM file the visitor entered into the browser... As opposed to the
unfriendly 404 error message sent out by CFMX.

**WARNING BEFORE YOU USE THIS CODE**

- This code will look in the ROOT of the clients web for the 404.cfm
file.
- It relies on the URL to translate into a path, exactly. I.e.,
www.yourdomain.com/dummy/something/hello.cfm should translate to (as an
example) D:\www\hosts\yourdomain\dummy\something\hello.cfm. So.. If
you've created a virtual directory, and that doesn't coincide with the
above schema example (of course your root dir name and drive will be
different), than it will fail - AND MAY CAUSE BIZARRE RESULTS. So BE
CAREFUL and TEST, TEST, TEST, before you use this!!
- Of course, this will only work for missing .CFM files. Has nothing to
do with other extensions (.htm, .asp, etc.) which you'll need to adjust
within IIS.

Hope this is helpful to others. Feel free to modify it and make it
better - so long as you share with me what you did to make it better!
:)

!--- Strip the extraneous path crud from the path and return it in a
var ---
cfset urltrans = #replace(cgi.path_translated, replace(cgi.PATH_INFO,
'/', '\', 'ALL'), '')#

!--- See if the file 404.cfm exists in the root of the website being
called ---
cfif FileExists(#urltrans#\404.cfm)

!--- If so.. Go get the 404.cfm file for the browser and
deliver it up! ---
cfhttp url=http://#cgi.SERVER_NAME#/404.cfm/
cfoutput#cfhttp.FileContent#/cfoutput

cfelse

!--- Otherwise.. Deliver up something generic ---
whatever you want to show here if they don't have a 404.cfm
file -- can be html.. etc.

CFMX: 404-Type Error Redirection?

I know we've discussed this before, but with IIS5 and CFMX, has anyone

Of course, making adjustments to the Custom Error Pages within IIS will
work for not found or incorrect .HTM pages... But not for .CFM pages.

Has anyone found an error redirect system that works with CFMX?

| You can set IIS to verify the existence of CF Pages before

|
| There is a Check that File exists or something like that box.
|

RE: CFMX: 404-Type Error Redirection?

2002-11-14 Thread Lee Fuller
To? I've set it to 404.cfm and it balks at it. What would that
setting be. Of course the help file says This is where you enter the
page to deliver for Missing Templates. Wow! REALLY?? Didn't know
that!! 8/

Anyway.. I set it to /404.cfm and just plain 404.cfm and get an
error that says:

The file specified as the site wide missing template handler does not
exist. The default missing template handler will be used until a
replacement is created.

Uhm.. Ok, where would you put this file? And if it's system wide,
that's not going to help. We need to allow customers to create their
own error files... That's the whole point.

| boy I hope someone comes up with a decent solution. You can't have
| custom 404 pages for .cfm files in Apache either.
