Hi Sid.

As I said I think the speed limit is always! 55, the area just means how
many police are around and how likely you are to get caught, you can
tell this with the route selection at the start of the game.

I believe I 90 etc are the names of american roads.

In england we have motorways called things like the m25 and the A 1
depending upon what traffic they have, eg, a motorway is a large, multiple
lanes road which goes a long distance, while an A road is one that many
people use I believe, but I have no idea what the american letters and
numbers mean, heck, sinse I don't drive myself I'm not 100 percent sure
about the British ones ;D.

because that's what i wanted to point out that sometimes, getting a
little over 55 may get you fined, while on the other point raising it as

isn't their a proper way to know the speed limit for current area?

Hi sid.

I think the speed limit is! 55 unless your told differently.

I must admit though, just hitting enter without having to constantly
type 55 would improve the game quite a lot, either if you don't want
to speed or don't want to slow down.

i've found going even a litle over 55 gets you a tickit, and the only
time it's necessary to slow down is when the speed limit changes for a
wet road, thus most of trucker I spend just pressing 55, 55, 55, and
having a way to speed this process up would be nice.

2011-07-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Sid,

If you are traveling on an interstate, say I40 or I15, the speed limit
is always 55 MPH for trucks. I think this is something Jim didn't
document as its something most Americans know and take for granted
that other people know as well. Jim probably didn't think about
foreign gamers who aren't quite up to speed with the US Interstate
Highway system when writing the game and docs. :D

Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question

2011-07-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

The letters and numbers in this case are refering to the US Interstate
highway system built in the 1950's. The idea was borrowed from the
German Autobond, but was expanded to support travel throughout the 48
continental states. Even numbered highways travel from East to West
while odd numbered highways run north to south. So if I want to head
north to Cleveland or south to Colombus Ohio, I can get on I77 to go
straight north to Clevelend or South to Colombus. If I kept going
south on I77 I'd eventually end up in Parkersburg West Virginia, and
of course beyond. Basically, it makes traveling by land from point A
to point B very painless as the interstate system criss-crosses every
US mager city allowing products to be trucked into major city
distribution centers where they can be delivered to surrounding towns
and villages not on the beaten path so to speak.

For instance, I live in Millersburg. That's a small hole in the wall
one-horse town a good 20 miles away from I77. Out of states goods are
usually dropped off in New Philli, and another truck picks up the
stuff at a warehouse, and delivers it to our local IGA, Wal-Mart,
Radio Shack, whatever. So obviously the interstates are a big help in
moving goods not to mention anyone who wants to make a cross-country
trip faster and easier.

Cheers!

Hi Dark,

Its true the original Donkey Kong didn't have many levels, but its
challenge and difficulty made it very replayable. Very few people have

anyone off from buying it. Its a pretty amazing game for 1984

Hi,
My complaint is that sometimes it seems like it's just pure luck that can
make you lose at certain points in the level. For instance, when that saw
runs out, you will usually find yoursle with aobut five or more barrels
to
your left. Now, if you land at just the wrong place after jumping, you
won't

havetime to get into the air afterwards. But I'm loving it anyway, the
sounds are excellent, particularly the barrels. A far cry from Pipe 2's
barrel sounds. ;)

Well, all I can tell you their is, you have to try to duck when a bird
comes

and at the same time make sure that a barrel is far enough away that it
won't get you. It's easier said then done some of the time for me
though.

I'm still practicing on level 1. Today, I actually go to the second
chainsaw. I notice the barrels come more rapidly when you get past the
first chainsaw.

Hi,

I'm glad that Jim has released a new game, but at the same time I'm
getting frustrated with Level 1. So far, I've been able to jump over at
least four or five barrels, but keep getting knocked out by a bird, even
though I'm ducking. Sometimes, I try ducking as soon as I land, but then
get knocked out by another barrel or something. How do you get past the
birds? As for feature suggestions, it would be nice if you could skip
the
cutscenes at the start of the level, and have more than one life, sort
of
like in Donkey Kong, where you had three at the start of the game. Just
my

opinion, anyway.

Thanks.

Hi Darren.

Perhaps it might be worth contacting the admins of the game about the
captures, sinse i've never found a decent capture solution.

The firefox thing only seems to work occasionally, and I tried a thing
called solona which was supposed to send a screenshot of the capture to an
actual human, but that didn't work at all.

Captures are frankly a pain in the neck, and develoeprs should be told this.

The only reasonable solution I've ever seen is the google audio capture
thingy, but even that is heavily dependent upon having a very good pare of
headphones to hear the words successfully.

Btw, does astrowars use captures every log in? or just at account creation.

if just when creating an account, then there may be an easier way around.

Beware the grue!

Hi,
The best way I've found to tackle that little issue is to just keep jumping.
It does not impare your use of the chainsaw, so you m ight as well.

Hi Jim,

Well, you did a pretty good job of copying the essential game play of
Donkey Kong in Homer level 1, but with some extra twists. Donkey Kong
didn't have birds swooping down to attack you, and in that way Homer
is a bit harder than Donkey Kong level 1. However, you are right. The
chainsaw is more or less like the hammer, and in Donkey Kong there was
no indication when Mario would loose the hammer. It just vanished, and
Mario had to go back to jumping the barrels.

Cheers!

Hi Dark,
All rigt then, time for American infrastructure 101.
:)
The I in this case stands for interstate, and most of them sound similar to
your motorways. Most of them actually go most or all of the way cross
country. The even numbered interstates go west to east, while odds go north
to south.
All right, that's all for today, I'll be preparing your exam for tomorrow.

 Hi sid.

I think the speed limit is! 55 unless your told differently.

I must admit though, just hitting enter without having to constantly
type 55 would improve the game quite a lot, either if you don't want to

speed or don't want to slow down.

i've found going even a litle over 55 gets you a tickit, and the only
time it's necessary to slow down is when the speed limit changes for a
wet road, thus most of trucker I spend just pressing 55, 55, 55, and
having a way to speed this process up would be nice.

 Beware the grue!

Hi Dark,
The Dropbox links were not permanent. I had them up to give someone
interested in hosting them long enough to grab them and host as necessary,
but it seems nobody has hosted it. I have reuploaded the Savage Gamut but
will be taking it down shortly.

Regards,
Damien.

Hi damian,
if you could please upload the savage gamut bundled in its new installer,
I would appreciate it, as it looks like nobody else hosts it.
the link on the audiogames.net site which points at your site is broken,
you might want to speak to the person who runs it about getting the games
entry updated and that link either modified or taken down.

Re: [Audyssey] win trucker question

2011-07-25 Thread dark

Hi Sid.

As I said I think the speed limit is always! 55, the area just means how
many police are around and how likely you are to get caught, you can
tell this with the route selection at the start of the game.

I believe I 90 etc are the names of american roads.

In england we have motorways called things like the m25 and the A 1
depending upon what traffic they have, eg, a motorway is a large, multiple
lanes road which goes a long distance, while an A road is one that many
people use I believe, but I have no idea what the american letters and
numbers mean, heck, sinse I don't drive myself I'm not 100 percent sure
about the British ones ;D.

numbers like " cruising in i 40 in texas, or cruising in i 15 in

because that's what i wanted to point out that sometimes, getting a little
over 55 may get you fined, while on the other point raising it as much as
72 or so doesn't give any restrictions.

isn't their a proper way to know the speed limit for current area?

Hi sid.

I think the speed limit is! 55 unless your told differently.

I must admit though, just hitting enter without having to constantly
type 55 would improve the game quite a lot, either if you don't want to
speed or don't want to slow down.

i've found going even a litle over 55 gets you a tickit, and the only
time it's necessary to slow down is when the speed limit changes for a
wet road, thus most of trucker I spend just pressing 55, 55, 55, and
having a way to speed this process up would be nice.

You'll need the Firefox capture plugin to play it as it uses captures for
login. Am not quite sure what to make of the game yet.

Jim has done a great job with homer as a remake including difficulty. The
only thing I think he's missing are the ladders, and adding those in another
game, along with sounds for when you were at the edge of a ledge and when
you'd need to turn around and find a ladder might be very possible.

funnily enough I've only played the original on the gameboy version, and
have played far more of donkey Kong jr, it's sequal.

i did toy with the idea of buying the nes classics version for the gba, but
sort of went off the idea when i discovered how few levels it has, unlike
for instance ice climbers or castlevania (some of the other nes classics

Hi Jim.

I take your point about the Donkey Kong hammer not having a running out
indicator, however I'd suggest this is a case of game mechanics over
tradition.

Firstly, the hammer had musical phrases which you could count the exact time
of. Secondly, obviously a player looking at the screen would be able to get
a wide enough field of view to see when barrels were on the way down so
could react according to that information.

third, i actually do believe the hammer in donkey Kong flashed when it was
running out of charge (though I could be wrong sinse the only version of
donkey Kong I've played extensively is the gb version using the gb player
for the snes).

for all of these reasons, i'm afraid Istil would like a chainsaw running out
sound.

Hi Dark,

Come to think of it I think the hammer did flash a couple of times
before running out, but I might be mistaken. Sheesh, its been 25 years
or so since I played the original DK, and of course I had the Atari
2600 version and the Collecovision version. Although, I liked the game
I rarely played it much because Donkey Kong was extremely hard to
play.

Re: [Audyssey] Getting Frustrated with Level 1 of Awesome Homer

2011-07-25 Thread Thomas Ward

Cheers!

Hi Jim,

Yeah, I read that in the game instructions. I think you should clarify
or specify in the keyboard commands section shift duck/pick up
objects. Even though I read the directions twice it was not at all
clear what was needed to pick up the saw.

Here is an idea. Instead of having the pit there why not put in a tree

and the first-time player can turn around and go the other direction?

[Audyssey] Homer, a saw loser?

2011-07-25 Thread dark
Hi.

In awsome homer I've noticed a really odd bug. If you don't pick up the
chainsaw, after a few barrels (in fact I think at the point the saw would've
given out had you got it), the game just cuts off, no death sound, just
streight back to the main menue.

it reads the log file of your last game, not the current one, in fact I can
find no logs of my chainsawless games at all.

Is this a bug?

i was just trying to miss the saw sinse I seem to get knocked out more often
after it gives out on me in the wrong place than actually i wwould without it,
but obviously it didn't work.

Beware the grue!

If this is faulse how to report it.
On that note it seems like unless you pay for support.
So if its a bug that needs reporting maybe there is a paying user

Ofcause where is the bug.
I am going to send with this message a dropbox link to the 25kb zip

I know I am. And now I'm getting this bizarre bug type thing. It sems to
hhappen anytime my score passes a certain threshhold and I die...not that
I've yet completed level 1 as I said. But what happens is I make it to the
first chainsaw and it runs out. Then I get hit by the next barrel. The game
tells me how many barrels I dodged/destroyed, but then just stops
responding. No score announcement or anything. It just stops.

Re: [Audyssey] Getting Frustrated with Level 1 of Awesome Homer

2011-07-25 Thread dark

Hi Jim.

I take your point about the Donkey Kong hammer not having a running out
indicator, however I'd suggest this is a case of game mechanics over
tradition.

Firstly, the hammer had musical phrases which you could count the exact time
of. Secondly, obviously a player looking at the screen would be able to get
a wide enough field of view to see when barrels were on the way down so
could react according to that information.

third, i actually do believe the hammer in donkey Kong flashed when it was
running out of charge (though I could be wrong sinse the only version of
donkey Kong I've played extensively is the gb version using the gb player
for the snes).

for all of these reasons, i'm afraid Istil would like a chainsaw running out
sound.

You must remove Jaws from memory or put it to sleep to play Awesome Homer

Hi Curt,

The only fire pit is in the second cave to the left. And it gets pretty loud.
But I did not give any sound clues as to when to jump or duck. Pretty much
trial and error or practice.

Spoiler space for level 6.

On level 6 take the second hall to the left. Go straight through or take the
first hall to the right. If you go straight through you will want to duck
after the first hall to the right. In either case you will need to jump over
either a fire pit or a raging river.

Hi William,

You must remove Jaws from memory or put it to sleep to play Awesome Homer
and most of my newer games. My games that support a joystick and or
multiple keys use DirectX key input rather than VB6 key input and Jaws
intercepts the arrow keys and does not pass them through to DirectX.

Hi Dark,

The only thing is, the original Donkey Kong had no indication as to when the
hammer or hatchet was going to run out. That is why I did not put one in
Awesome Homer. I could never really tell if it was supposed to be a hammer or
hatchet. But it did the same as my chainsaw, that is smash or cut through the
barrels. In Donkey Kong you had to jump to grab the hammer. And since the
level zigzagged it had ladders for short cuts. But the barrels would come down
the ladders as well. Oh yeah, and there were no birds, but I tried to make
level 1 similar to Donkey Kong.

Re: [Audyssey] i finaly beat the awesome homer!

2011-07-25 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Hayden,

Actually there are five cars that chimpanzees are driving that you need to pass
before you get to Gonk and Marge in the Volkswagon. Those first two are just
randomly moving side to side.

BTW Last night I recorded me completing the level and have an mp3 of it.

Spoiler space for level 7.

In level 7 the first two cars just randomly move back and forth left and right.
The next car does a good job of getting in your way. But the closer you are
to it, the slower that it gets in front of you. So wait until you are very
close and then move to the left or right of it. The next two cars do not get
in your way as much, but they will cause you to spin out via oil or bananas.
What I do is to get over to one side and as soon as I hear the oil or chimp
voice I mash the arrow key to go to the other side and thus avoid the oil or
bananas. The last car with Gonk is not too hard to stay behind and then just
move along side of once you are close.

I hope that helps.

Hi tom.

I find I can get through 13-15 at least on easy, and on normal only losing
one life.

the main thing I find with troop, is need to be selective with enemies.

Hovercraft are imho the most dangerous, so I go for them first, while I
leave luna lifters until there is nothing else pressing sinse they won't
actually kill me if I miss them.

I also play with the central locator on permiantly, sinse not only is it
hard to remember what side your on sometimes, but also those swaying ships
are soemthing you always need to be aware of especially on level 15 as your
window for killing them is very short.

I also find that being very! quick when a ship is targitted helps quite a
lot, actually quicker than in the targiting demo sinse there are many
occasions when i'll get to a ship just as it lands and need to shoot before
it does.

Hi,

Wow! I'm impressed. I have never had five lives at the end on easy let
alone normal. Here is to admitting I'm not a very good troopenum

By the time Lord Vector comes I'm down to my last two lives, last
super laser, last portal, whatever. Everyone says hold onto your
special items until Vector comes, but I find if I don't use them I'll
never get through levels 13 through 15 alive. They are just to hard to
get through using the standard laser. At least for me.

2011-07-25 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

for the lander level, I actually found those tips given in the Jammin jerry
review that used to be on the bsc page rather helpful.

Hammer the up arrow mercilessly all the time, and only press left or right
when you here the howling wind sound go off to one side (if your on easy
you've also got the beeps in center to help you line up).

Generally, I find I press right arrow once, then have to hit left, and sort
of swing around sometimes, but as long as I'm careful, and very sparing on
left and right I can usually always guarantee to land successfully and get
my extra.

[Audyssey] (offlist please) c cleaner issue

2011-07-25 Thread shaun everiss

Hi all.
I have a rather bad issue on a system my dad uses to connect to his work.
They use microsoft remote enterprise desktop for their stuff.
He needs a special config for this to work.
Ccleaner seems to delete this info.
I am not sure where a bug can be reported, there is a remote key that
has to do with webfolders that may be the issue but ccleaner only
gets rid of dammaged things.

If this is faulse how to report it.
On that note it seems like unless you pay for support.
So if its a bug that needs reporting maybe there is a paying user
that could do that for me if they could.

Ofcause where is the bug.
I am going to send with this message a dropbox link to the 25kb zip
file which contains 6 reg files.

from the 6th-19, I think the first 2 are the important files but I am not sure.
Also I can't open a support ticket without paying it seems.
Oh.
And also could you respond off list please.

Hi charles.

I already btry and do the shields asap rather than the ships, but often i
find I'm not quick enough.

For the bombs, I tend to find it very unclear where they're actually falling

starts dropping multiple ones at once.

The portal business is a good idea though, sinse it is true that 15 gives

on Lord Vector's bombs and level 16 in general!

If you don't want level 16 given away, quit reading.

Whew! Now that that's out of the way, here's some help, I hope?

Don't even worry about the landing ships. At the beginning, very quickly
move to a shield and rapidly repeatedly blast it away. Do the same with
the other two shields. Now you can kill any landing ships if you choose.

As for avoiding the bombs, they travel diagonally downward, so just don't
go where you will intersect them. If they're falling to your left, stay
right, and vice versa.

Don't use your super lasers until level 16, and pick up as many as you can
during level 15. Don't use any portals until level 16 barely begins, then
use one to go back and replay level 15, possibly picking up more useful
items, hopefully more portals and super lasers to use on level 16. Not
only does this make it easier to beat the game, but it also racks up the
score.

Beaten no.

the furthest I've got on insane was level 11 I believe.

I will say though, Lord vector is pretty insane anyway on whatever!
difficulty.

While I like the idea of a boss, I do think Bsc might've rethought him a
bit. First, when dealing with his shields, the sound of the shields is so
loud it's difficult to here where the ships to shoot are, and frequently
three have landed and lost me a life before I've heard them. Then, his
bombs are waaay too harsh in a game where you will have at most four
or five lives, especially when he starts dropping two or three at a time.

On easy and normal imho, the bombs should count as ships landed, not
entire lives, or else be possible to shoot out of the air like Ather's
shots in Judgement day.

I've frequently found myself getting to vector with four lives, losing
one to his ships, and then losing the other three! to his bombs.

thus, for difficulty, i reallyt hink vector needs to be thought about as
well as the levels, sinse certainly whenever I've played on normal
difficulty it's been vector who kills me!
