Yes, it would be cool if I could have my game installed on both too, as I
take my netbook with me on trips and stuff and it would be nice to play
there as well. Guess that would only work with regular key registration.

Hi Philip.

As I have both a laptop and desktop, I personally like having audio games
installed on both. There are periods, sometimes up to weeks at a time,
when I can't get to my desktop at all.

If the internet registration would be similar to Vip gameszones, which only
allows the user one registered copy of the game at one time, - I'd
myself be against that for this reason.

Ultimately, there will always be cracked versions of games out there
whatever security you put on them, and sad people who think saving a few
extra quid is more important than supporting developers to keep
developing, however letting them ruin the situation for the rest of us
is imho not a good thing.

Beware the grue!

Subject: [Audyssey] Q9 and cracks

 Hi all,

I just wanted to throw out a quick question here. As expected, there are
quite a few user keys for Q9 floating around as I am only using a name/key

registration system. Now, my question is; is it the best way to do things,

or should I adopt an Internet unlocking strategy? The product ID/key
approach is out of the question as regenerating keys for people can become

quite a nightmare, and so the only option left for me is to make it check
the registration data online. This of course forces the user to have an
active Internet connection at the time of registration, but I think most
people do these days. So, should I keep the registration system as it is
or change it for all my future products to be Internet based?

 Kind regards,

 Philip Bennefall

 Hello,

An even more interesting read is the comments which are posted after the
article. There was only one, out of 40+ comments, which was slightly in
the person's favour. Mainly, everyone says it is not their problem, blind
people should not be playing video games anyway, and we need to just learn

to accept our place in life. Oh, and a few said we should get jobs rather
than trying to play video games. Quite fascinating.

Re: [Audyssey] Visually impaired gamer sues Sony Online.

2009-11-07 Thread ChB
While I, like everyone else, would love the idea of having every single game
accessible in the future, it will not happen.
Think about how costly this would be, development would raise the price of a
game to probably double what it is now.
And to an extent I could understand that the sighted gamers will hit the
roof when they are forced to pay outrageous prices for content they would
never need or use.
Again, I would love to see this happen, nut chances are very very slim that
this is happening. We are too few in numbers really to be a target customer
for those games. The only thing I can see happening is maybe them adding
reading out loud in all menus and stuff so that it is easier to navigate.
This should be easy to do and would not really cost more, I assume.
They already have subtitles for hearing impaired gamers but the adjustments
for that group are so much easier anyway, because you do not have to change
the game itself at all.

Hi Chrissy,
Weather it works or not I think the main point of this lawsuit should be
to make Sony and some of these major companies aware that accessible
mainstream video games are possible, and that we would like them to take
us seriously as a group interested in purchasing their video games. It
is important to remember these companies, Sony in this case, repeatedly
ignores requests for accessibility features, and won't even give a
person a reasonable response when asked about accessibility. Here is a
case in point.
Back when the Play Station III was coming out I wrote them asking about
possible accessibility features. I gave various suggestions in which
they could improve the platform, improve accessibility, etc. However,
the only response I got back was something to the effect thank you for
your suggestions, but Sony can not endorse or accept new ideas for game
titles, or improvements for existing game titles.
I can't remember the reply word for word, but it was pretty clear they
hadn't even read my e-mail.Even if they had it looked like something
drafted by a team of lawyers to serve as a one size fits all type of
canned answer they send everybody. Indeed I sent a few more e-mails and
got basically the same message multiple times sent out by a different
customer service rep. So what are we suppose to do to get these peoples
attention?
The bottom line is Sony, and probably various other companies, have
customer service reps --- low level peons --- to basically tell the
average Joe Smith to take a hike. So It is very doubtful anyone with any
real authority saw my message, and I am assuming this person who is
suing Sony got the exact same treatment. The first thing the Sony movers
and shakers probably knew of this is when they got hit with the lawsuit,
and that is because they hired peons to stone wall anyone who has a
serious suggestion or complaint about their products.

Re: [Audyssey] tekken versus Mortal Kombat

2009-10-04 Thread ChB
I have played both too and I agree with the observatiopns
made.
Also mortal kombat, when it first came out was always about
the visuals, blood and gore factor more so than tekken.
While a good game nevertheless, I think MK sold very good
because it was fun, but even more so because it had those
gory fatality moves with lots of blood and stuff, which at
the time was not seen too often in videogames.I remember
when the first installment of MK came out, I had still
vision, and I was amazed about the deadly combat with ripped
off heads and stuff you could do.
Overall I think tekken is more about studying the opponent
and his or her weak spots and then try to beat them with
lots of training. MK to me, was always more button mashing
than really trying to get the right combos at the right
time.

I'd take tekken over Mk any day, mostly cause as far as
storyline goes,
tekken is better thoughtout and has a more interesting
plot.
Every character has their unique lifestyle and motives,
and each one is
well written and has clear purpose.
MK on the other hand, well, a bunch of ninjas who are
really not
ninjas and a force from outworld that tries to take over
Earth by
winning/cheating the tourni...and from there it just gets
lamer and lamer
 by each new plot...

Also Tekken has more likeable designs...android/cyborgs,
martial artists
of all types, street punks (I'm sorry, but no matter what
they say, Paul
Phoenix is still a street punk rofl), and heck, dinosaur?
lol

As far as gameplay go, I never did get into the MK much,
so can't make a
fair comparison, but I can honestly say that for me, there
is probably not
many fighting games that can rival Tekken's style of play.
Even though I prefer Soul Calibur over Tekken, that's just
cause of my
love of swords and what-you-have-it, and nothing really
because of
 gameplay.
And even then, if we go by a point system, I'd still rank
Tekken over SC.

Also, the tekken fighters are much more realistic than the
MK ones-
another point to Tekken in my book.

That said, I think MK probably has more playability value
to some people
just because it got several bonus things like animality
and fatality
moves- not to mention several versions of each.

No one ever kicked ass by saying I can't.

meaning it was

better and why?
Here are my reasons laid out on the table. Quite simple,
really.

Although Mortal Kombat is fun, it's the type of fun that
lasts for a
couple hours. The gameplay engine isn't that deep when
you think about
it. Sure characters have combos and special moves, but
there's not too
much to learn. You learn how to do combos and special
moves and how to
block. That's all you need to do to play MK. Tekken? It
seems to me to be
a whole different story. You have to learn combos as
well, yes. But you
also need to learn the moves you can do while you're
crouching, while
your character is standing up, positions, etc.

 Other reasons... tekken has better

Make people sweat

Hi Darren,
I'm afraid the problem is a lot bigger than parents and
their blind
children not taking control. As long as there is a blind
person willing
to be victimized they will be by their parents, in-laws,
spouse,
employer, etc. There is always someone out there who is
perfectly fine
with victimizing someone else they feel they can control,
and the only
solution is to stand up to it face to face.
A few years ago after I got married my wife tried that crap
on me, and I
stood up to it and told her how things were going to be. You
see she
grew up in a very strict Christian fundamentalist church, at
the time
she and I met she had walked away from that, but after we
got married
she got back into that way of thinking. She decided on her
own to
purify our home by tossing out all of my music cds, which
she didn't
like, decided unilaterally to throw away any dvds that were
not Godly,
etc. I flat out told her not only was she going to go out
and get them
out of the trash and put them back where they were I made it
clear if
she ever did something like that again I'd kick her butt to
the curb so
fast she wouldn't know what hit her, and don't let the door
hit her on
the butt on the way out. Let's just say she got the message
real quick
that I wasn't going to sit back while she shoved her
religion down my
throat and control me like a puppet. We've have had
arguments since, but
she's never had the guts to try anything quite that drastic
again. She
knows I meant it when I'd kick her out on the street for it.
It is a bit
cold, but necessary to maintain my individual rights as a
human being.

to get better... and speaking of tekken, here's an example
of the new version of the tekken force mode found in t6.
It's be renamed to scenario campaign, but sounds just like
tekken force. except in 3d. But the concept is still the
same from what I can see. Run around a stage and beat down
enemies as much as possible. And better yet, you can
acquire
weapons in scenario campaign... like the machinegun used
in
 this clip. Enjoy!

I just got this game for psp today. It is a fighting game
with martial arts stuff and so forth. Pretty cool. Soul
calibur already came out with several releases in the past
for different consoles but this is the first time for a psp
release.
It is very similar with tekken., so if anyone ever played
that one on psp you will feel right at home with soul
calibur. You can also play as kratos form the god of war
series now! I have had some help to try and familiarize
myself with the menus and all and can now work this pretty
good myself. I like the handling and the sounds are cool.
Dialogues in story mode are spoken too.

Yes all of them are pretty good. Have not had them on
playstation 2 but tried them at a friends house once.right
now I am playing the versus mode and made it to stage 4.
Stage 4 is still when I get the daylihts beaten out of me.
But I will get better soon, I am sure lol
I have soul calibur for ps3 also. Also have fight night
round 4 new for ps3. It used to have only joystick support
for punches but they have since come out with a patch to
also choose button layout for punches. This choice seems to
work better for me so far. And, I am also getting on peoples
nerves right now with drums for beatles rockband lol. I like
the guitar hero series as well but found that it is easier
to get into the rrockband beatles game since it is easier to
play if you start on easy than easy on guitar hero.
Therefore the learning curve seems a lot less stressful and
with fast improvement noticable. I play drums as well as
guitar on both games of this series.
So I should be in good shape, with plenty of games to play,
for the long nasty weather periods in month to come when
stuck inside.

Re: [Audyssey] final fantasy

2009-09-20 Thread ChB
It is actually more a role playing game. You can strengthen
your charcater by gaining experience from combat as well as
items you find along the way of your quest. The hard part on
some games is when they are three dimensional and you don't
quite know where you are going or need to go to get on with
the quest. I am not a big role playing game fan, so never
really got into the series. I would compare it to the zelda
series in a lot of ways. There is quite a bit of exploring
puzzle soving as well as fightiing. The fighting is on some
parts of the series not in real time but works turn based.

The incredibly stupid part is also that usually the ones
condemning video games are the ones who have nebver even
played a single one of those games themselves.
Bigottry comes with a lot of prejudice, be it games or
against other minority people. It is probably best to just
ignore such attempts and not give it acknowledgement by even
bother discussing them. That just makes them think one is
taking them seriously.

viewpoint on gaming

Hi,
The articles appeared to have no credible information at
all; from start to
finish, they kept naming one youth who said this or
that. Very rarely
did they mention names, and to me that's suspicious as far
as their content
and research is concerned.
Further, they explained their arguments by asking questions.
For instance,
they ask Could not such games cultivate an unhealthy
curiosity about
demonic forces? Does this question really prove anything?
My answer to that
is, no. Sure, some may argue that those types of questions
get you to think,
but the way I see things, there is no point in asking a
rhetorical question
if you will not answer it. I see their findings as a bunch
of logical
fallacies, saying things like If x represents y, then can't
Y be harmful
for the child? Maybe if they had more credible information
instead of as
one youth put it, I would be more open to their articles.
For now, though,
I have dismissed it as an attempt of so-called religious
fundamentalism
trying to destroy monotheism again.
The authors commit an obvious fallacy when they mention the
Bible's
viewpoint on magic, and then state that games are teaching
magic today. In a
game, you are not taught how to wave a wand, concentrate
your thoughts, go
in to a state of meditation, curse people, etc. All you do
is press buttons.
If the power goes out, well, there goes your little magic
trick. Why do the
same people who condemn such games say it is okay to play
online poker as
long as you are not playing for money? Forget about magic,
and focus on
condemning gambling first--which is a much more realistic
issue.
I agree that certain types of games are not suited for
children, but that
has nothing to do with the Christian viewpoint--anyone,
anywhere, can tell
you that much. Instead of saying that is what a good
faithful Christian
believes the statement would be more correct if it said
that is what
anyone in their right mind believes.

Absolutely. Also sometimes games can be a good way of
stress relief as
well. Or if you're seriously annoyed at something you can
vent that
annoyance in a game. Whether it be something like doom or
anything else.
To my mind games are harmless. If kids for example get a
hold of said
games then quite frankly it's the fault of the parents for
either
allowing them to play them or not being watchful enough
around their
kids. That said there are situations where by for example
if said child
goes to a friends house and plays said game that's always
a problem.

Hi,
Agreed. A lot of it comes down to harmless fantacy or roll
playing on
the part of the gamer. In real life I would never beat the
crap out of
somebody because I was angry at them, perform a spinal rip,
or chop
their head off. However, afgter having an extremely
stressful day or big
argument with my wife I can take my frustration out in a
game like
Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. There I can beat the living
crap out of
anyone and anything, and nobody gets hurt for real.
I wonder what some of these Christians thinks about stress
management.
When I first lost my sight I was very angry all the time and
one of the
stress management counselors suggested I take an old pillow
and beat on
it. That's what society might consider violent behavior, but
it is
controlled violent behavior. My intention is not to hurt
anyone, but
relieve my anger by acting out my stress and rage in a way
that comes
out naturally. I've got a choice. I can put on a set of
boxing gloves
and let loose on a punching bag, or I can go to town on a
living person
like my wife. Anyone in their right mind would say use the
punching bag.
Sowhat is the difference in doing the same thing in a game?

Darren Harris wrote:
Absolutely. Also sometimes games can be a good way of
stress relief as
well. Or if you're seriously annoyed at something you can
vent that
annoyance in a game. Whether it be something like doom or
anything else.
To my mind games are harmless. If kids for example get a
hold of said
games then quite frankly it's the fault of the parents for
either
allowing them to play them or not being watchful enough
around their
kids. That said there are situations where by for example
if said child
goes to a friends house and plays said game that's always
a problem.

Hi all
Those of you who were sighted before you became blind, I've
got another
question for you. I'm very curious. How did the arcade
machines in shops
work like? What games could you play on such an arcade
machine? Could
you play pack man? How many money did you have to throw into
such a
machine to play and then for how long could you then play? I
have asked
my mom, when she was a kid if they had arcade machines in

My mom says in her child days they didn't had such things,
they played
outside, making their own toys. When I went with my parents

I do not
know wich games they offered. Do you still get these arcade
machines in

A whole area of gaming I never realised existed until
recently is the
cultivation of those old arcade cabinets. Their are guys
and gals all
over the world buying them from arcades that close down,
redesigning
the interior to occomodate a mac or pc running the emulator
of choice
(usuallly some flavour of Mame), and voila, multipurpose
arcade chaos
in your lounge. Some people take this stuff pretty far, I
saw an
awesome Apple cab where the guy had done a really swanky job
of the
interior, plus imbeded a little keyboard into the exterior
along with
power and standby buttons and such. Fun fstuff!

So, Chrissy, if you have room at home for one of those
motorcycles... lol

Re: [Audyssey] mainstream game accessibility

2009-08-17 Thread ChB
The unfortunate truth is, that I doubt that mainstream games
will ever support accessibilty to blind gamers. There is
simply no money to be made here. The number of blind people
who would buy such games is way too small to justify the
effort for them.
Video games are developed and played for the most part, by
sighted people, that is what they work on. Even if every one
of us would sign to buy every new release out there it would
still not be profitable for them in ages.
It is a lot less work and stuff to make games accesible for
people who are deaf as all it takes is subtitling the games
in the dialogues, so that is being done in most mainstream
games already.
To make us able to fully enjoy the game you'd basically have
to rewrite it. So even if some dedicated blind games
developer would start to convert such a game, the licensing
would be tremendous amounts of money to be paid to the
original developer.

Another way we could do this was approach comapanies and

ok so its probably not going to be cost effective and so we

we also need some media recognition and this means doing

Top ten ways to get mainstream game accessibility
 10. Organize all the guide dog owners in the country to
visit mainstream
game company headquarters and have their dogs poop on the
floor.
 9. Kidnap the children of mainstream game company
executives and hold
them ransom until their games are Accessible.
 8. Picket mainstream game company headquarters with
Braille signs saying
that they are discriminating to the blind.
 7. Have every blind person in the world learn computer
programming and
require them to debug a line of game code before they can
read an audio
 book.
 6. Start a charity, National Association of Accessible
Games, and get
people to donate millions of dollars, then hire sighted
programmers to
 develop accessible games.
 5. Get all colleges to add a class of Accessible game
development to all
 computer programming courses.
 4. Get the NFB and ACB to protest that there are not
enough mainstream
 game accessibility.
 3. Petition Stevie Wonder to be the spokesperson for
mainstream game
 accessibility.
 2. Get all blind people to send a dollar to Thomas Ward
so he can finish
 his accessible game engine.

And the top way to get mainstream game accessibility,
Visit the homes of mainstream game company executives
and poke their
 eyes out.

Exactly and that is a shame. You guys do a great deal of
keeping a lot of blind gamers very happy with your products,
sadly most of the regular games are going to be off limits
to us.
Lol, about the cars. Being blind myself but still kind of
shudder at the prospective of blind car drivers all over the
place. I can just see a cop pull one of us over and saying,
'gee what is wrong with you driving like that, are you
blind?' yes... grin*
unfortunately a lot of the general public is still pretty
ignorant when it comes to the needs of disabled people or
the aides out there for them. I still get disbelief a lot of
times when I offer a person my email address. Lol. most have
no clue blind people can run computers, let alone what we
use to run them

Hi,
I have to agree with you. Recently there has been some talk
about a car
that can drive itself, and of course the media felt this
might be a
revolutionary breakthrough for groups such as the blind who
can not
drive cars. In the medias eyes this is big news. However,
the fact that
GMA, Jim Kitchen, or myself are working on accessible games
for the
blind aren't even worth a mentioning on the back page of
your average
news paper most of the time.
What media attention we do get from time to time is often
there for a
quick wow responce and is quickly forgotten. Frankly, the
general
public doesn't care, and generally is unconcerned about
blind
accessibility issues like this.

ChB wrote:

I think all the aforementioned consoles have something good
to offer. Wii is more family oriented in their games while
playstation consoles are traditionally more 'hardcore' gamer
oriented, with more shooters and racing games available.
Each has good games, so it is primarily a matter of what
type of games appeal more to the potential buyer.
As far as accessibility most games have some barriers for us
blind gamers, but I do play some fighting games on ps3 a
lot, and gotten pretty good at it. The hard part in video
games is to always memorize the menu set ups and stuff when
there is no audible feedback to let you know where you are
at. When I play ps3 I usually have some sighted person play
me and they set up the game and stuff.

The wii should be connected to the tv and then of course the
ac adapter for electricity your wall outlet for power.
At least this is the way my ps3 works.
After that you have to find the right av channel on your
remote control also. Then you will get a set up screen where
you will need some sighted help to adjust certain things
like date, time, resolution etc. after that you will always
get some kind of welcome screen. I don't know if wii plays a
jingle or not. Ps3 does not but I can always tell once the
hard drive inside starts spinning that it is getting ready
to start.

Re: [Audyssey] Nintendo wii and intro

2009-08-13 Thread ChB
Hi sal,
Hope you get it figured out so you can play.
It is really tricky because if you have no clue what is
going on it is next to impossible to fully get oriented, as
usually all set ups required to get into the games will have
no really audible feedback to let you know what choices you
made. Most times it is just sounds.
One of the fighting games for ps3 gives you the name of the
characters when you choose them, as they all have different
weaknesses and strenghts. I end up playing the same
character now always as I was able to figure out some good
working combos for him.
So maybe if you can get someone to first explain what is
going on on the screen, it is a lot easier to try and
memorize the layouts for each game. It would be awesome if
someone would come up with some sort of jaws like
screenreader that you could integrate into consoles. But I
guess the market would be too small and such a reader would
cost way too much. But it would be cool to see if more blind
gamers would then try out and enjoy some mainstream
videogames. I also have a psp with tekken and stuff to play
on it.
Happy gaming!

Hi,

Yesterday, I decided to try a game of pinball extreme, the
wild west table.
My sscore is below:

1. Richard Sherman - 2003342100 [8/13/2009 12:35:24 AM]

2. Sylvester Thomas - 97817525 [3/2/2009 11:53:17 PM]

a pretty wild ride.

The strange thing is that once I hit this score, I pressed
f6 to make sure
that it was the 2 billion mark I reached, and the game ended
just like that.
I had about 27 balls left. Actually was going for 4 billion.

Does anyone know why the game would just end like that?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Audyssey] error when starting ten pin alley

2009-07-21 Thread ChB
I had the same problem, contacted them and never got an answer:, even after
a couple of attempts.I love their games but customer support is well another
matter.
I purchased a bunch of games from them and this is the only one that will
not run on my pc, rund on the laptop though.
runtime error 76 means the particular program which you tried to run is not
identified or missing. the computer is not able to detect the location where
the programm is located.
I even tried to go to their site and download this a second time, but get
the same error.

I finally gave up trying and just play it on the laptop.

I can think of two options. One is to copy the error message into your
Windows clipboard, and then do a search for the meaning with your favorite
search engine. The other is to contact Draconis Entertainment's tech
support. HTH

hello, I managed to find out what locks the program in this most
disgraceful way.
if you launch the game and immediately enter your reg key it'll do it
and there is no way to remove it. but if you play the demo at least
once and then enter the key it'll run fine. found it out by accedent
but it's true.

Re: [Audyssey] A new audiogame MP3 demo

2009-06-24 Thread ChB
I totally agree. All my mp3 music files for example are in 192 kb because
then I will get a decent sound. 64kbs do sound really inferior in
comparison, so yes, do them at least in 128. Harddrives are a lot bigger
than what they used to be, I have one that is 500 gigs on my pc and 300 on
my laptop, so I am not hurting for space really. But even older ones with a
bit less of capacity should not be bothered by the odd game using better
output.

Hi Shaun,
Personally, I think 64 KBPS still sounds like crap. I wouldn't recommend
anything less than 128 KBPS, which is cd quality, and is still quite
small in wma, ogg, xwma, etc. It is like come on guys. Most computers
these days have over 100 GB of hard drive space and there is plenty of
room for the games, and high speed internet use far out numbers dial up
access now days. There is no need to sacrofice quality to save space or
download time any more.
shaun everiss wrote:
hmm 64kbps ogg is really good quality still.
if you made all the sounds mono 8bit wav then you would get small and
crappy sound, though 22000 is the only real lowest I'd go.

Re: [Audyssey] exciting news for ps3 owners!

2009-05-24 Thread ChB
The individual games award trophies for certain set accomplishments during a
game. It can be to execute a certain amount of combos in fighting games or
finishing levels or missions etc. Almost all the games have them and I think
sony said that all the new games now have to have the trophy support.
In ps3 you can also compare your trophies in games to other's tropies of
people in your ps3 contacts. It is a pretty neat feature.

Hey, Jim: How's this for an idea. So that we can keep a game in which
the
keyboard will do all that can be done, rather than replacing the current
version of Mach 1, what would you think of calling this newest version
Mach
2? That way, we would have the option of full access with a keyboard

one game and better action with the game controllers with the other
game.
