[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word2016: Jumping to end of cell in a table
Hello, Anyone knows how to jump to the end of the text in the currently selected cell table? I am entering text into a table in Word2016 and want to be able to navigate the text in a specific cell. However, when I press Hoe or End, the cursor jumps out of the cell I am currently typing in. Hope anyone got any hints. hi Vicki, I use internet explorer as my default browser. the page is in Italian. [JAWS-Users] Syncing Apps in iTunes 12.5.1
Hi, I have gone through the process of updating my iOS on my iPad Mini 2nd Generation and was using iTunes 12.1.3 to restore and install the update. After encountering issues and the syncing not working properly, I've updated my iTunes to 12.5.1 and have noticed that the syncing process went a lot smoothly. My question is this, when syncing apps to a device, I normally went to the devices information, selected Apps and then in the list of apps, went through them and pressed on the spacebar to enable the checkbox. Since iTunes 12.5.1 though, when viewing this list, the checkboxes are no longer present and I am not sure how to select an app to be synced to my device. Does anyone know how to select an app from this list so it can be synced to the device? Appreciate any help, thanks! Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10
Hi, I would check online as I heard that those using Adaptive Software (e.g. screen readers, Magnifiers don't apply to the July 29th cut off date. It appears that we have longer. Not sure if we have a later deadline or if we have no deadline at all, but I do know, as I have heard it on many podcasts, that those using adaptive software will not lose the chance to update to Windows 10 for free after July 29th. Just thought I would share this with everyone. From: Jason SmithTo: jaws-users-list Date: 2016/07/26 6:17 AM Subject:[JAWS-Users] what to do with Jaws when upgrading to windows10 Hi list, I posted this question a few days ago, but didn't see it appear on the list. So I am resending it. I am about to upgrade my windows7 desktop to windows10 before the free upgrade option runs out at the end of the month. From what i understand. We have to uninstall all versions of Jaws etc running on our computers. Do the windows10 upgrade and then install jaws again. Is this correct? If so, how are we meant to run the upgrade if we don't have any speech? In addition, do we need to use the FS uninstall tool as mentioned? If so, do we run that after uninstalling Jaws? Or do we use that to uninstall jaws? O! and usually we get told not to choose the remove shared componants option when uninstalling Jaws. Since they want us to remove all versions of Jaws. Should I choose this option this time? And are there any other things I should do when upgrading to windows10? I'm sad to say that they have not gotten better. I've been attending online courses through Go To Meeting and the experience is still the same. You can start a meeting using the link that the presenter sends out but once the meeting starts, that is it. You can hear the meeting but you cannot participate. I always needed someone sighted to unmute my mic through the interface but once that was done, I had a physical mute button on my headset. You would assume correctly, their both made by Citrix. I've just never used GTM before and the course itself, is held physically too far, and I don't feel like dragging my butt over there, unless I absolutely have to. I will contact the school to see if we can run a test with audio to make sure that works. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 Language Changes
I myself was using RealSpeak Solo Direct for the longest time and swore I would stick with a human sounding voice. But in my job, testing accessibility in my department, I set up a version of JAWS that was not configured, pretty much a straight out of the box installation. With all the testing, I kept elequence and have to admit, it grew on me. Now, it is the only one I prefer and have not switched back, and don't plan on it either. Like I said in my original message, I just find it odd that once I had disabled the language detect setting in JAWS 15, the issue went away, but when I did the same change in 16, the issue is still there. Which I do find pretty odd. From: "Rose Combs" <roseco...@q.com> To: <jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com> Date: 2015/12/08 2:48 PM Subject:Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 Language Changes That is a matter of opinion! I have tried most of them for my language, US English, and in certain circumstances they work great, for everyday use, Eloquence is still my favorite, it reads punctuation I wish, raises and lowers pitch for capitalization and after 17 years of using JAWS the cadence is something I have gotten used to hearing. I have used other voices but I go back to Eloquence and probably will do so until it disappears from the program. I hated Tom years ago, Samantha is horrible, some of the others also sound like smokers, or Grandpa in Eloquence. I use Paul from Voice ware in another screen reader and he is fine except for some mispronunciations on some words. I used Paul then I had K1000 but it never worked right with Windows 7, the voices in Open Book drive me crazy after reading with hem for an hour or more. However, Eloquence in Open Book also drives me crazy if I have to read for more than a few minutes, the cadence is not the same as with JAWS, the phrasing is off, pitch seems less stable,. I used it to read a PDF converted for a church project, 288 pages more or less and I was amused by how it pronounced bible names, annoyed by the constant higher pitch for some items, have no clue why it could change pitch in the middle of a sentence, found it very distracting to be frank. With each chapter of the book taking approximately an hour to read at a high rate of speed, I wanted to scream by the time I was finished. Unfortunately, I thought that since I had premium voices from Jaws 16, that I could remove the ones Open Book used, discovered that is not the case, but I don't think I would have been any more please by Tom or Samantha which as I recall were to two main OB choices, since the program has not been updated since about 2012, I doubt that there would be choices I'd like any better. If I were to use Vocalizer Premium voices regularly in Jaws 17, it would probably be Allison or Eva, but the few days I spent with each of them sent me back to Eloquence. hello, I am the fell who responded to your original email RE: D2L. in that email, i said the following, and it still holds true, even with the beta of jaws 17. d2l is inaccessible. no content reads, though menus read with options selected. always show dialogs as pub ups needs to be set to on. additionally, set the calendar to agenda view, set emails to send to your email account, not your school's, set d2l to always go to your course page, not course home, and hope the content creater makes their course content accessible, as accessibility of this area of d2l, depends on the content creater(s). most of this information, i learned from my former community college, which i withdrew from, do to inaccessibility of d2l. I do not, recommend, under any circumstance, you, partake in your afford mentioned courses. myself, the first time, with another platform, the learning manager, took a course through other meens, arranged with my instructor, ended up in the mental health unit, at the local hospit al. I do not, recommend, anybody, use d2l for anything. it's more trouble than it's worth. unless your course is a required credit, which I hope it is not, use d2l only if you cannot make alternate arangments with your professor(s). what i did for my course, orginational behaviour, was, used a combination of email and the telephone. me and my instructer, would talk, after each quiz on the telephone, and assignments and quizzes were emailed to my schools address through that community college. this was back, before, jaws had document OCR for PDFS, so inaccessible PDFS were sent to me, eventually with accessible, searchable PDFS, created. for this course oi withdrew from, introduction to programming: python, the PDFS are image base, inaccessible. all this accessible content should have been figured out, long before i enrolled in that course. of course, asper the community college's style, they left it up to me, inspire of their fancy job titles, which imply they know something of acce ssibility for jaws users, and screen reader users, in general, as I use a multitude of screen readers, on different platforms. if i told them that, they would have freek out. stick with the hadley school for thee blind, and the cisco acamity for the vision impaired. mainstream institutions, do not give a rats ass about us blind people, they see us as a burden to make money off of. thanks, Daniel Angus Mac Donald On 2015-10-03, at 12:18 AM, Kimsan <kimsans...@charter.net> wrote: > I emailed about this weeks ago, a fella responded, but since I got stupid > and messed with my email, I lost his. > > > > Anyways, I got a response from someone at the college concerning d2l and > it's level of success and accessibility. Hello, I have this issue as well. I think it is a bug in video accessibility, the video drivers which replace windows vista and 7's mirror drivers, in windows 8 and 10. If this is the case, it us a Microsoft issue, not one concerning Freedomscientific. I also have issues when JAWS 17 does not consistently read the concurrent errors in the outlook 2013 spell checker dialog. I have to press tab, to regain focus, and then, works as expected. Hope this helps, Daniel p.s. Microsoft Office 2016 for windows is coming out, later today, both for Microsoft Office 365 subscribers, and non-subscribers respectably. Re: [JAWS-Users] Beta form automation
Hello Al, I totally agree with you on as many people submitting this request to Freedomscientific suggestions. Do you have your SMA? JAWS 17 public beta 2 is coming out in ten days. You'll need your JAWS SMA up-to-date, as this beta will effectively render JAWS as a demo, unless your JAWS SMA is current. If not, you'll have to purchase a new copy of JAWS 17. Hello Maheen, The latest version of c dex is actually version 1.79. the afor mentioned bug you speak of is fixed in JAWS 17. I'm very impressed. Now, I however have a very odd problem with a CD ripping program, C dex. I tried to install with jaws 16. When I installed, it completely, totally crashed my jaws. I had to do a jaws repair with narrator, completely uninstalled C dex and the narrator voice in windows 10 is very clear. Now, is this a bug in jaws 16 with C dex or has this been fixed with jaws 17? This was very frustrating because I got a lot of DLL errors too when I installed C dex. I tried the latest version of c dex 1.75 but there's no 64 bit version, to the best of my knowledge. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated indeed. Thanks much! Maheen. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Smart Navigation
Hello, You can activate smart navigation in two ways. Through settings center where you press space to cycle through the options - off, controls, and controls and tables. The second way is through the jaws startup wizard, where these options are radio buttons. Smart navigation Is used via the arrow keys. In controls, you can arrow across form fields and you'll get the exact layout of the form. In tables, you navigate them again with the arrow keys and you can pick a cell in a row, and arrow down to the corresponding cell on subsequent lines. Smart navigation and navigation quick keys are two different things. Smart navigation is a glorified version of the old screen layout web document presentation mode. If you browse a site that has links placed on a line along with other text, such as a link in the middle of a paragraph, without smart navigation it places the link on it's own line and interrupts the flow of the text. Visually the link is just part of the text in a different color that you can click on, but to jaws the link is on it's own line so you can arrow down to it and press enter. With smart navigation however, jaws tries to read the link among the text around it just as it is shown visually. It's more than just that, but this was a quick stab at explaining the point of smart navigation. The idea is to allow you to continue having efficient access to the web while giving you a more accurate representation of the layout of the document. Navigation quick keys is what you thought yes, smart navigation is as I've explained here, and not the same thing as navigation quick keys. Re: [JAWS-Users] A Little Result Of Jaws 17 first public beta
After updating to windows 10 professional insider preview build 10537, the JAWS mirror driver gets messed up. It says it isn't correctly installed. You have to remove both JAWS 16 and 17, plus the shared components, and reinstall jaws 16 followed by 17 to restore this driver. One item I must point out as an improvement is for the first time since the ability to use the my extensions feature hit is that I was able to just copy and paste my scripts from 16 over to 17 without having to rebuild my personal extensions file. Not a major deal for me as it is just some copying of text and doing a compile, but it is nice that I didn't have to do that this time around. It seemed to work a little better on my banking web page last evening but I was pressed for time so more research in that area is required. They have got a lot of strange things up there called modal boxes or something of that nature. I have no idea how to spell it either so that is a guess. Re: [JAWS-Users] d2l
Hello, I am in a course right now, which uses d2l. it's inaccessible. When you login to a course, there is a menu which jaws reads, and it doesn't read anything else. I had some cited assistants from my community college and they told me that apps are in the platform which load, which are incompatible with jaws right now. I'm working with people from my community college, former blind school, and will report bugs with d2l in the current jaws 17 beta. Tomorrow, I have a phone call with someone from online learning, to try to find a salution, until this can be fixt. I'll keep you posted. My advice is to tell your professors that d2l is inaccessible ahead of time, so they can get an alternate way to access the content. Re: [JAWS-Users] rolling back windows 10
Hello all, To roll back to windows 7, do the following. Go to control panel. In control panel go to the recovery option. At this point, use narrator since this area of windows 10 does not work with any screen readers including JAWS. Then use caps lock+right arrow to find the go back to windows 7 option. Press it. You will get a getting things ready screen, and then a confirmation of what you're about to do. Press the okay button. At this point, you will get a screen which says restoring windows, with no speech available. Just wait until you here the windows startup sound. Note: this option is only available a month after you upgrade to windows 10. Also, upgrading to an insider build and/or running defragment and optimize drives will delete the necessary files for the rollback to windows 7. Here is the steps for upgrading to W-10, which I have previously shared with the Jaws users list. *Upgrading to Windows 10 with jaws 16. go to: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Support/TechnicalSupport/Windows10Upgrade Download the tool called utility tool, leave it in your download folder. Download jaws 16.0.4350, leave it in your download folder for future use. Download the Microsoft media creation tool at: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 On this web page, Go to download link now 64 bit version or 32 bit version depending on what system you have. Download the tool and save it to your download folder for future use. Leave all three of these downloads in your download folder. Now, if you have not reserved windows 10, please do so. press enter on the get windows 10 icon in the notification area. go down the page and fill in your email address ext. this gives you a verification email. Now, restart your computer. check for updates, install any updates, restart to make sure you have all the latest updates. Now you are ready to begin the upgrade to windows 10. Run the jaws utility tool, this will get rid of any jaws fragmented files and so on from your system. Run the media creation tool. yes, for your users account warning. Choose, update this computer now and press enter. you are now in an ongoing and updating dialog which says: Windows 10 is being downloaded, continue using your computer. This could take anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your download speed. When it is done downloading, it will go through several screens itself updating your computer and will get it ready for windows 10. Next, there will be a screen asking you to except the license agreement, check the yes and press enter on next. Again, the program will run through several screens by itself. Next, press enter on install. now you will have no speech, this install takes 45 to 60 minutes to complete. After 1 hour, press the Windows key+enter key to turn on narrator. Wait for a few minutes if it does not come on right away. Almost done. press the next button. choose express settings. press the next button. if done right, in about 10 to 15 minutes, jaws will come on talking on the desktop. very important, uninstall jaws. Keep shared settings and personal settings. Reinstall jaws, no need for a restart here, jaws will come on talking with all your settings, except for 2 of them. Redo your shortcut key, control+ALT+j. Redo the setting to have jaws come on at the log-on screen. For whatever reason if the media tool fails the first time. Check for updates, restart your computer. Check to see if a graphics card driver update is available. Run the Microsoft media creation tool again. -Original Message- From: Scorpio Forever Sent: Saturday, September 05, 2015 9:33 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] W 8.1 upgrade HI Kevin, I'm afraid this method does not work as I attempted it, and the preparation stalled at around 11 and 18%. guys, upgrade through windows update and you'll get narrator as soon as the windows 10 setup screen launches. I use bootcamp on my late 2012 iMac, intel core i5, 1 TB hard rive, 8 GB RAM. it worked fine. restarted four times, and I got speech. not right away, their was notable delay from when I pressed windows+enter, to when windows 10 setup was announced. waiting for official bootcamp drivers so my volume controls work, other than that, when without a hitch; you can get rid of the windows.old folder by doing a disk cleanup and scrolling down to delete operating system files.. I'll keep it because when I called the microsoft disability answer desk and asked about windows 10 ultimate, they said it wasn't hurt yet, implying that it will come out in the future. so, is the downgrade process just as smooth and the upgrade process? Re: [JAWS-Users] Issue with Jaws 16
hey, I think you mean GB instead of MB for RAM. maybe their is a problem with your video card in your computer. JAWS 16 has mirrer drivers in windows 7, which allow for things like reading line by line. I personally don't have the issue on windows 8.1, but if you first go to device manager and check that the merrer driver and your driver for your video card are installed. go to control pannal to device manager. their are different options in the tree view, but find the one that's display adaptors. if you video card isn't listed their, then go to other devices and the video card should show up. execute the install option if that's the case. when JAWS was updated for windows 8, their were lots of issues, one of them being that the video accessibility driver, which came next after the mirrer drivers that are in windows 7, wouldn't install. maybe Freedomscientific in the process of making drivers for windows 8.1 brok the mirrer drivers in windows 7, just speculating here. I am using JAWS 16 on a Fujitsu laptop, Windows 7 64-bit. I have 8 mb of RAM and a 2.1 processor. When I read through a document line by line, using the down arrow, JAWS often rereads the line, even though I have pressed DownArrow. In addition, I am a fast typer, and sometimes I notice skipped letters. I could blame this on my typing, but I did not see it until I installed JAWS 16. I contacted FS Technical Support and, upon their recommendation, did a repair of the install. As that made no difference, I uninstalled JAWS and all shared components and reinstalled from the DVD. Still no success! This is the most frustrated I have been with a JAWS release in many years. Again, I am wondering if there is a setting I need to check on my computer, but all other versions of JAWS run smoothly. Any suggestions you can give me would be much appreciated. Re: [JAWS-Users] comments on the beta so far
hi David, did you report the broken state of the script manager to Freedomscientific through their beta report form? The thing I can't figure out and this is since the My Extensions deal hit the seen it: That file will never copy over when I use the merge utility. Other than that I do like the features discussed on the pod cast. David Ferrin A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked perfectly. Re: [JAWS-Users] Media Center controls?
hey Rich, windows media center is a program to watch tv through your pc. you need a tv tuner card, and an HDMI cable to use it. as for stopping startup of windows media center, the only way I know of is to go into the system configuration utility and disable it there. press windows+r to get to the run dialog, and type msconfig. go to the survices tab by pressing control+tab. look for windows media center their and uncheck the windows media center box. it will say running and unchecking it stops the survice from running at startup. . Could someone tell me what this program does and steps to use it? Or, how to un-use it. I was clicking on options like, set up speakers, monitor, settings etc. I have no idea how these adjustments may effect my computer now. Sometimes, I think I should listen to my wife who tells me not to experiment with things I don't know about, but, I seem to learn better that way. Thanks so much. Re: [JAWS-Users] remote assistance and jaws
hey, in my experience their are no remote assistants programs which work with jaws accept for the ones freedomscientific supports in their product and documentation. the thing is, with remote assistants software, a graphical representation of the other person's desk top shows up, which jaws cannot read. so the only such software which will work is jaws tandom out of the box. their is other software, sitrix, ms remote desktop, and ms terminal services, but for those softwares, you need to perchase the remote access addon froom fs-jaws professional only. plus you have to install third-party softwares witch are document in the jaws help, under the remote access topic. I bought this addon, also tandom direct, which is like the tandom senter, accept over a private network, and you again have to pay extra for it. about $500 Canadian dollars.
