All,
I am running latest jaws, windows 10 and outlook 2010.

While in the messages list of my "in box", if I do a "shift tab" which takes
you to the list of your various mailboxes and then quickly tab back to the
message list, jaws will report the number of the message you are on and the
total number of messages. But this is not spoken until the entire displayed
headers are read.
Also, when you do the shift tab to the navigation list, jaws will report the
number of messages in the folder.

Al, I'm confident there isn't such a keystroke, which would be very useful.
With Outlook, including 2010, you're not even told what number email you're
at as you go down the list, a feature Outlook Express had, or has. That's my

only regret about giving up OE.

However, your mention of a word search makes me wonder which type of search
you're doing. If you just type a word into the initial search field, you're
searching only subject lines. The way I search for all words, whether in the

subject line or the message field, is the following:

Control-shift-f to commence the search.
Tab once
Down arrow once
Shift-tab once.
Now type your search term, then press enter.

Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser

By David Moore

This tutorial will be done with the latest update of Chrome.

I will also use JAWS 18 and NVDA 2017.2for this tutorial, because they both
work the same in Chrome.

Finally, I will use Windows 10 Creators Update latest public build.

I will assume that you have downloaded and installed Chrome.

There should be a shortcut on your desktop.

Section One:

Launching Chrome:

One way to Launch Chrome, is to press the Windows key or CTRL+Escape and
type Chrome in the search edit field, and press enter when you hear JAWS say
Chrome.

However, since you have already downloaded Chrome, You will have a shortcut
icon on your desktop.

So next, find the shortcut for Chrome on your desktop, and press enter to
open Chrome.

The short cut will actually say Google Chrome, so press G to find the Google
Chrome icon on your desktop.

The first very important step, is to press Windows+up arrow to maximise the
window. Chrome often opens with the window not maximise, and you will get
undesirable results.

Section Two:

Bringing up a web site.

Press CTRL+L or Alt+D

and type the following:

www.freedomscientific.com

The Freedom Scientific web site comes up very quickly.

All navigation commands like: H for heading, E for edit field, C for combo
box, and so on all work just the same in Chrome.

Section Three:

The Virticle Chrome menu:

I will press the Alt key.

The Chrome menu is open.

This is a very large virticle menu that you just keep pressing up and down
arrow through.

I will press insert+up arrow to hear the first option in this menu.

New Tab, CTRL+T.

You can press that command right from the web site you are on.

New Window, CTRL+N

You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming
here.

New incognito Window.

History sub menu.

I will press right arrow here to see what is in this sub menu!

History, CTRL+H

So, there is a key command for reading your history.

You can read a few sites you were on right here.

I will press left arrow to close this history sub menu.

Downloads, CTRL+J

There is the command for opening your downloads you have downloaded with
Chrome.

Next, the important Bookmarks sub menu.

I will press right arrow, to open this.

I hear, bookmark this page, CTRL+D

That command will bookmark the page you are reading.

Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B

That command, will show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to
see. I do not want that.

Here is the important one.

manage bookmarks

The command is, CTRL+Shift+O

In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you
have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can
download, to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in Chrome.

On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and
a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in
Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to
your computer, so you can back them up.

That is all for manage bookmarks.

Next, I hear import bookmarks and settings.

press enter on this, and you can import all bookmarks and settings from IE,
and Firefox, right into Google Chrome, and they will be in their
corresponding folders.

Now, I hear all of my saved bookmarks as I continue to arrow down.

Very important!

Sometimes, when I open that bookmarks sub menu, I do not land on the choices
I mension here, but instead, I start hearing my saved bookmarks.
If this happens, I press up arrow a few times, and it gets me to these
choices.

Keep in mind, that many of these choices, like bookmark manager, have key
commands, so you do not have to come to this bookmarks sub menu at all. You
only need to come here most of the time, to arrow through your saved
bookmarks, and enter on the desired one.

To save a web site as a bookmark,

Just press CTRL+D and press enter, and your bookmark is saved.

I will now press left

That's interesting. When I tried to run FF 57 with JAWS 18, I got a message
warning me that my screen-reader would not function properly. This was a
message/alert that came from Firefox itself, and not JAWS. And indeed, JAWS
did not really work at all. However, the programme did not crash.

Whatever the case though, I'd still be curious to know why it is that there
isn't even rudimentary support for FS Quantum in JAWS. It would seem that
even with NVDA 17.3, the version I have as I still haven't installed the
update, the change in Firefox was somewhat anticipated, and attempts were
made to support it.

The best thing to do now is to get what they call the extended service

Actually, on my system Firefox 57 works fine with NVDA, but Firefox crashes
when i try to run it with JAWS 2018.

hello;
if your wanting to add an email address to your contacts using outlook2016, try
the following;

1, enter on the message which has the contact's email address,

2, now press the keystroke,
ctrl+shift+y=copy item to dialog,

3, press the letter "c" until you hear contacts and press enter,

note a screen will come up with all the pertinate information, person's name,
email address, and, you can add to any of the edit fields, if you are satisfied
with the information, you can simply press, alt+s=save, now your placed back
into the message.
hope this helps.
I believe this will work for earlier versions of outlook.

Hello Mary:

J-Say is a British program that has been around for years, a wrap-around Dragon
Natural Speaking, designed for people with limited or no hand mobility. I had
to learn it years ago in order to teach a younger blind person with Multiple
Sclerosis and was surprised how well it works. You can indeed give commands to
the computer or dictate to it, it accommodates different accents, even
understood perfectly my Cuban-accented English.

Having said that, I still would not use it unless you have trouble typing; it
requires patience and with the advent of Cortana and the rapid updates to all
that new Windows technology, I would go that route instead.

As far as J-Dictate, I have no idea, never used it.

Regards,

Humberto

I’m guessing this question might be seen as a bit too general to be of interest
to the list. So please feel free to reply privately if you want. I don’t want
to clog the list with stuff folks don’t care about. I am curious about the J
dictate and J say. I read the blurb on Brian‘s website. I certainly don’t need
to control my entire computer via voice. But there are aspects of it that sound
like they could be rather useful. I mean, if you can really use natural
language to do all sorts of stuff, finding things changing settings etc.,
without having to memorize all the stuff that goes with that in terms of
keyboarding and what keystroke does work, it could be kind of nice. Anyway,
please do feel free to reply off list at the address I will put right here. I

Top, Center, Justified, & Bottom.

I don’t' get that beep and am able to down-arrow. For me at least, Jaws
doesn’t announce the names of contacts, but they are being cycled through. I
email a lot of the same people for my business and have learned the pattern
of how they come up when typing out their names. The letter M and then arrow
down for Maria X, Y or Z for example. This still occurs. Again though, Jaws
just isn't announcing the changes.
Either way though, it is annoying and frustrating as I often now have to use
the to or CC or BCC buttons to go into my address book when I want to insert
multiple emails or if there is a long list of names with the same starting
sequence of letters.

When I am in the TO: field, I type the first letter of a name. With
previous versions of JAWS, the first name beginning with that first letter
in my autocomplete list would be spoken. If I was to hit the down-arrow
key, the next name in the list would be spoken. I could down-arrow through
the list until I found the name I wanted. When I hit the tab key, the name
would be inserted in to the TO: field and I could begin typing the next
to-name and repeat the process for this second name. None of this is
working with the new release of JAWS. After I have typed that first letter
and hit the down-arrow key, I hear a beep; indicating that I can't
down-arrow through the list. So, it isn't that JAWS just isn't announcing
it.

So, it isn't that JAWS just isn't announcing
it.

I would turn off the virtual ribbon. It is handy, but you become dependent
on them and they don't work as well as the original menus, since they don't
use first-letter navigation. I tried them briefly years ago and decided to
buckle down and just learn to use the ribbons.

I've memorized certain shortcut keys to do very specific things but need to

Right now virtual ribbons are turned on .. Would it be easier and more

Hello all. I'm a recent Window-eyes migrant and am having conceptual trouble
understanding and using the touch cursor. When I invoke it in the Media
Human application, I can use tab and shift-tab to navigate among screen
elements that are unspoken with both the Jaws and PC cursors. But once I
locate the desired element, I can't activate it.
Must I route the Jaws cursor to the touch cursor position and press the left
mouse button in order to activate the element, or can the activation be
performed exclusively with the touch cursor?
More profoundly, is the touch cursor only useful to access elements that are
inaccessible with the other cursors, but not to activate elements? I realize
that the touch cursor was primarily intended for tablet use, but I'm
attempting to use it on my desktop and laptop. If there are any useful touch
cursor tutorials, I'm happy to digest them.

[JAWS-Users] Two options and set up adobe guidelines-RE: PDF files won't read at all

2017-07-26 Thread John R. Vaughn
Joanne, I have discovered that some difficult Adobe documents can be opened
with Googgle Chrom, the internet browser.
How I access the adobe document is save the document to my documents. Then
when I want to read it, I press the application key and down arrow to "open
with" and press enter. I then have Adobe DC, google chrome and Edge listed
to use. On the google chrome item, I press enter and patiently wait while
Google opens and prepares the document for reading. When Edge begins to work
with Jaws, that may be another option for us to read Adobe documents.
If you have the K1000 product, this program can open many adobe documents or
convert the document into a text document. In this instance, I would save
the adobe document as noted above, and when I get to the document in my list
of documents I want to open, I press the applications key and down arrow to
a choice called ""recognize with Kurzweil automatically" and press enter.
The document is then converted into a rich text format which can be read by
Word. In this instance, the document is converted and saved in the same
folder the original adobe document was accessed. In this case, MS word
opens the document in rich text format.
I have also included below, some tips on setting up Adobe I have gathered
from various lists.
John
Tip 1
Setting up adobe to open in a separate window
You can set up Adobe to open PDF files in a separate window from IE, which
fellow lister Gerald explained more or less as follows:

In Adobe Reader, go to the Edit menu (alt-e) and arrow up to the
Accessibility submenu.
Select Set-up Assistant.
Control-tab several times. On page 5 of 5, the last page, of the Set-up
Assistant is a check box labeled "Display PDF documents in the web browser."
It should be unchecked so that the web page is processed directly by Adobe
Reader.
Tip 2
Below is information received from Freedom Scientific to help you get Adobe
Reader working.
A. Using the Accessibility Set Up Assistant
When you launch a PDF the first time, the accessibility set up assistant
opens. If the accessibility wizard has already run, do the following to open
it:
1. Press ALT+E to open the Edit menu.
2. Press Y to select Accessibility submenu.
3. Press ENTER on Set Up Assistant. The first page of this five page dialog
box opens. The default choice is fine, press ENTER to move to the next page.
4. On the second page you can change things if you wish, but by default it
is OK. Press ENTER to move to page three.
5. On the third page you can change things if you wish, but by default it is
OK. Press ENTER to move to page four.
6. On the fourth page, if you want to use the list of links, list of
headings, and the JAWS find command so on to access long documents, change
the radio button from
"For large documents, only read the currently visible pages"
to
"Read the entire document at once."
If you do not make this change, in long documents JAWS only sees the links
and headings on the current page. Additionally, JAWS can only search the
current page with the JAWS find command. If you do select read the entire
document at once, it may take a few seconds longer to process large
documents, but it is worth it to be able to see the links and headings in
the entire document, or to search the entire document with the JAWS find.
7. Press ENTER to move to page five of the Set Up Assistant.
8. If the check box for Reopen documents to the last viewed page is checked,
you may want to uncheck this. It is a personal preference. TAB through until
you reach the check box for "Display PDF documents in the web browser," and
uncheck it.
9. Press ENTER to activate the Done button.

B. Additional changes in Adobe Reader XI preferences.
1. Press CTRL+K to open the Adobe Reader XI preferences.
2. In the Categories list on the left side of the dialog box, choose
Accessibility.
3. Press TAB to move to the item, Show Portfolios in Files mode (not checked
by default) - check this.
4. Press TAB to move back to the Categories list and choose Security
(Enhanced).
5. Press TAB to move to Enable Protected Mode at startup (checked by
default) - uncheck this.
6. Press TAB to move to the OK button, and activate it with the SPACEBAR.

NOTE: The option to view PDF documents in the browser is no longer found in
the Preferences. You must use the Set Up Assistant to find this. See Tip 1
above.

Adrian, amen. Nice that windows and jaws give us a number of options to
navigate the computer. Issue for my 73 year old brain is remembering the
options. That is the joy of this list to help reinforce commands.

This is one of those situations where describing the process is more arduous
than just doing it. Control-home is no big deal, any more than alt-numpad2,
escape or control-d are. Soon enough habits are ingrained, and the process
takes no time or even thought. Now, as for other workarounds, they can be
annoying and time-consuming.

Hello,
THe laptop keystroke is:
capslock plus shift plus semicolon to enable it.
To disable it:
either press caps lock plus semicolon twice or capslock plus apostrophe twice.
I can’t remember which it is off the top of my head.

1. When I bring up a Word document, jaws announces the name of the document
and at the end says "print view"

Do we want to have documents in print view? Seems like there was a setting
in options to change this by checking or unchecking a check box with the
space bar. Unless I am remembering incorrectly, seems like print view had
some issues and we were advised to not use print view.

2. When I bring up the find dialogue with Control key plus letter F, after I
have done my search, I cannot get the dialogue to close so I can reload the
Find command to look for something else in the Word document. My sighted
wife says she has to click an X next to the name being searched to close the
find dialogue. Seems like we used to be able to use the "escape key" to
dismiss the find dialogue.

Thanks for any help.

John

That said, I have no problem using the Jaws find command of jaws key plus
control key and letter f.

Has the operation of the find function been changed? I used to use office

with a members’ email account. This is not only false but frankly impossible.

Never the less this only confirms a saying I came up with many years ago, “if
you want somebody to think you’re lying tell them the truth”.

We have never engaged in such practices or shared a persons’ email information
with anybody. The membership list is only available to the three of us and that
is all.

Just stating my point for the record gang. Honestly though I have long since
stopped caring about what other people say about me as my actions speak for
themselves. If you don’t know me by my actions then you aren’t paying
attention.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adding columns in Excel 2013

2017-02-20 Thread John R. Vaughn
Here are the key combinations using word ribbons and not virtual ribbons.
To delete a row alt,h d r
to add a row alt plus h, i,r
add a column alt hi c
This works in excel 2007 and 2010.
Auto sum alt key plus equal
You execute the commands above from where you want the row or column inserted
and the auto sum in the cell you want the formula placed.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Want to know method to take students attendance on Excel 2003 sheet

2016-10-20 Thread John R Vaughn
1. place the application cursor in the first cell at the top of the column
you want to have cell contents read.(either A1 for roll number or B1 for
student name.
2. now bring up quick settings with jaws key plus letter v and type in
"title".
3. down arrow to probably the second item in the list which deals with title
reading view. This should be title reading.
note: You can tab around in this control and have this choice described in
detail.
4. now down arrow to the turn on title reading. Use the space bar to cycle
through options. I would probably have the option for both column and row.
Note, you can tab over to a description of your options.
5. now up arrow and this item should be set to overide on for all files.
you again use space bar to cycle through options. press enter or tab over
to okay.
Should have it.
Note: before setting controls, be sure you have the application cursor in
the row and column you want the contents read from as you arrow around the
spread sheet.
I find that on a spread sheet, I have to periodically reset the reading of
titles.
Hope this helps.

Let me tell you the structure of the sheet:
at the extreme left column, mean A1 to A50 there are rol numbers of the

other collums like C, D, E represent the dates of lectures.

Re: [JAWS-Users] firefox

2015-08-01 Thread John R Vaughn
Hi, this is from the jaws help system. There is much more there but this
can get you started.
John

Mozilla Firefox Getting Started
There are no special installation or setup requirements to run this product
with JAWS. Simply start the program using normal procedures. Refer to the
product's online help system as required. If you need assistance with JAWS
commands or want to know what new features have been added that JAWS
supports, press INSERT+F1+F1.
JAWS uses the Virtual Cursor with Firefox. This allows you to read pages
just like you would in Internet Explorer. Use the standard document reading
commands to move through text, and press ENTER to activate links. When you
move to a link with the TAB key, you can press CTRL+ENTER to open the link
in a new tab or SHIFT+ENTER to open it in a new window. Alternatively, you
can press ALT+ENTER to save the target of the link as a file on your
computer.
You can also use Navigation Quick Keys to quickly move to headings, lists,
links, tables, form controls, and other HTML elements. For example, you can
press T for table, F for form control, V for visited link, H for heading,
and so on. Add SHIFT to move to the previous element of that type. For a
complete listing of these commands, visit Navigation Quick Keys.
Displaying Lists of Information
JAWS can create lists of certain HTML elements on the current page, just
like in Internet Explorer. Press INSERT+F3 to see the various types of lists
that are available. You also can use the following commands to quickly
display lists of the following important HTML elements:
Form Fields - Press INSERT+F5
Headings - Press INSERT+F6
Links - Press INSERT+F7
Frames - Press INSERT+F9
In addition, if you hold down CTRL+INSERT and press one of several
Navigation Quick Keys, JAWS displays a list of those elements on the current
page. For example, to display a list of check boxes on the current page,
press CTRL+INSERT+X. For a complete list of keystrokes that display lists of
elements, refer to Navigation Quick Keys.
Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move through the lists and select items.
Alternatively, press the first letter of an item to move right to it. Press
ENTER to move to the selected item's location on the page.
Interacting with Forms
To interact with forms in Firefox, you must use Forms Mode, just like in
Internet Explorer. Press ENTER to switch to Forms Mode. While in this mode,
press TAB or SHIFT+TAB to move between form controls. After you have
completed the form, press NUM PAD PLUS to exit Forms Mode. For more
information, visit HTML Forms.
Using the Downloads Manager
The Downloads Manager appears automatically when you save a file from the
Web on your computer. You can also display it at any time by pressing CTRL+J
or by opening the Tools menu and choosing Downloads. The Downloads Manager
shows all files that you have downloaded with Firefox. In the Downloads
Manager, you can select a downloaded file with the arrow keys. After you
have selected a file, you can press the TAB key once to select Open, and
then press ENTER to open the file. Alternatively, you can press the TAB key
a second time to select Remove, and then press ENTER to remove the file from
the Downloads Manager. Choose the Clean Up button to remove all files from
the Download Manager.
Tip: To change the folder where Firefox saves downloaded files, open the
Tools menu, choose Options, and select Downloads. Then, select the Save
All Files to this Folder radio button, and choose the Browse button.

Kevin here is the note about the upgrade on installing windows 10 that was
in the message you said you deleted:
...Because you've reserved, Windows will automatically take care of the
download in advance. Then you'll get a notification when your upgrade is
ready to install. That way you can start using Windows 10 immediately - or
schedule a time to install that's convenient for you. If you have any more
questions, check out the upgrade FAQ.
Read the FAQ...

This is a large download and there are a lot of us who will be getting this
download. So I suspect that MS cannot get it all done today. The way I
understand it, since I asked to be advised when the windows 10 download is
on my computer and it is ready to be installed, I will be given notification
from MS.
That said, I plan to wait on doing the install on this computer. I did
however order a new laptop last night that will come with windows 10
installed on it and I will use that as my computer to learn Windows 10 and
keep using windows 7 on this computer I am using.
From what I have read, Windows 10 should be a good product and the new
laptop I purchased is to replace an old 7 year old laptop running windows
vista. So I will be glad to have both computers running the same operating
system and office suite.
I sure hope the replacement for IE 11 will prove to be good. I am so tired
of having IE 11 crash or not even work on some web sites. So glad I do have
the Mozilla option for now that many on this list encouraged me to download
and install.

I can disable the mousepad on my Toshiba Satellite laptop. However, at the

have to actually press one of the mouse buttons rather than merely touch it

[JAWS-Users] jaws 15 with Office 2010 versus 2013

2014-10-27 Thread John R. Vaughn
List, had to buy a new computer and picked up a toshiba running windows 7.
Question now is whether to buy the Office 2013 product or use my old Office
2010 program.
Is Office 2013 very similar to using Office 2010. I have all of my FS
training tutorials for Outlook, Word and Power point using jaws and Office
2010 and they are handy to refer to when I need to review something. So if
these training materials are similar for using Office 2013 I may go that
route.

thanks for any guidance.
Right now working to set up Windows 7 with Jaws 15 and having to look back
at my notes on setting this up. Sure forget how you did things when I
started using windows 7 in 2010. Time sure goes by fast when having fun?

[JAWS-Users] Jaws with dell Inspiron 3000 series

2014-07-28 Thread John R Vaughn
List,
I have been using Sony computers over the last number of years. But Sony
has sold it notebook business and I am looking to replace a Windows vista
system with a Dell 15 inch series 3000 with windows 7 and an I core 3
processor. Price is right at $429 with 4 GB of ram.
I am picking a windows 7 system as my other computer is a windows 7 Sony.
Just concerned about going to windows 8 and possibly touch screen computers.
I do not use an Apple I phone 5S and that touch screen phone.
Although I had used Dell for many years, I had a problem with their computer
about 6 years ago and sent it back and went to a Sony I 5 windows 7 machine
which is incredible but it is over 3 years old and who knows about tomorrow.

Have any of you had experiences with the Dell Inspiron running windows 7 and
Jaws 15?
I suspect that soon, windows 7 may not be available as an option but maybe
windows 8 may be okay using a keyboard.
I will appreciate any insights with Dell and Jaws and also Jaws with windows
8.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and IE 11

2014-02-28 Thread John R Vaughn
I use IE 11 with both Jaws 14 and 15 on a windows 7 and 64 bit system.
I find IE11 more responsive than either IE 10 as well as compared to IE9,
which I use on a Vista machine). I wish I could use IE 11 with Vista but
there is not an IE 11 version that works with Vista.
Only issue with IE 11 is that my BankAmerica investment account trading site
does not work with IE11, despite attempted help from B of A. So I just use
Mozilla Firefox when I need to make trades.
Other than that, I really find IE 11 so very responsive and almost never
does the computer crash with IE 11.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about lap top jaws curser keys:

2014-02-15 Thread John R Vaughn
Angel,
First of all, be sure you have the jaws program set to use the laptop
keyboard and not the desktop.
You do this in the jaws menu, jaws key plus letter j,
Then o for options and B for basics and tab to the control for use keyboard
layout and down arrow to classic laptop and then tab to okay.

For the keyboard commands:
Go to jaws help,
Insert J,
Then h for help
Then down arrow to jaws keyboard command and right arrow on laptop keyboard
Now do a F6 to go to the screen where you can read the information about the
various jaws laptop commands

You can highlight all the text and copy it to the clipboard and then paste
it into a word or word pad document for reference.
Also, with the laptop on, go to keyboard help
Jaws key plus number 1 on the numbers row and try using the jaws key plus
any other key combination to hear which key does what.
On my sony laptop, the insert or jaws key (second key in from the right on
the top row of the keyboard or just to the right of the pause key or two
keys to the right of the F11 key) is the jaws key as is the cap lock key.
It may be different on your brand.
Below is a copy of the pages in jaws help for laptop commands, but there are
more and you can find them.

[JAWS-Users] Backing up and moving the Outlook 2010 calendar program

2014-02-05 Thread John R Vaughn
List, I am moving from the Day by Day calendar program to the Outlook 2010
Calendar program. I have the paid Freedom Scientific tutorial and it has
been a great help. I am using Windows 7 and Jaws 15 on this computer.

My question is in being able to use Jaws 15 to save the Calendar file and
be able to move or send it to another computer to use it on my vista
computer running Outlook 2003 with Jaws 15 or 14.

I know sometimes these kind of transfers can be tricky if one has to do a
lot of routing jaws to PC and replicate clicking on an item.

Just do not want to start embarking on this if there are any known issues
with doing this with Jaws.

As many may know, Day By Day is no longer being sold and so I cannot put the
program on another new computer which I will need to do at some point in
time. So I might as well start using Outlook Calendar.

Thanks for any pointers are guidance as where to find my answers.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Documents Files and Folders List Are Mixed up

2014-02-03 Thread John R Vaughn
One possible problem is your view settings.
From within your list of documents,
1. do an alt key plus letter V as in view to open the view menu.
2. down arrow to sort and press enter.
3. you should see a number of items you can check to make this folder read
the way you want. For example ascending or descending, lists, detail etc.
4. there is on my computer a more button with other options.
5. note that when you open the view menu, there are items list and detail
should be checked. You do this by entering on the view you want. Then you
can go back into the view menu and down arrow to the sort menu item to get
additional choices. I have my folder view set to detail which puts files
and folders in a detailed list and I have the ascending item checked.
Good luck

Ed,
1. do you have the virtual ribbon turned off?
2. If so, from within a message in the in box
3. Be sure to first do the alt key with letter V pressed in quick
succession first,
4. followed in fairly quick succession by the letter R as in Robert and the
letter S as in sort. Sometimes this is the critical thing you do.
other than that, I will need to noodle this around for a while to see if I
can come up with anything.

However, you cannot do this with the key stroke combinations I gave the jaws

May be you can give him the key combinations of how to do the reverse sort

Re: [JAWS-Users] links on website not working

2013-12-08 Thread John R Vaughn
Becky,
Since IE10 using Jaws14 and even Jaws 15 on windows 7 machines I, like
others, have seen this frustrating event of thinking you are activating a
link when you press enter on the link, only to have nothing happen.
Possible solutions are to press the application key while on the link and if
a choice is open or open in a new window, then try and activate the link
by pressing enter on the menu choice.
Other times, on some web sites, doing the above does not give you any
choices to activate the link, in which case I will bring up the list of
links with insert key plus F7 and try activating the link that way.
Sometimes, I find Shift plus enter key is needed to open the link.
On other web sites, sometimes having to route jaws to PC and activate the
jaws cursor with replication of the left click does the trick.

Just seems to be the vagaries of some web sites. But I am sure some more
sophisticated user on the list may have another explanation or suggestions.
I think some of us are also finding that to go back to the previous web
page can be problematic and require persistence in using the go back
command of alt left arrow.

[JAWS-Users] Changing keyboard configuration-re:IE 11

2013-12-05 Thread John R Vaughn
Maria, In the jaws basic menus, do you have the keyboard set to laptop or
desktop? Try changing from keyboard to laptop and that might solve the
problem. Since i use one of my laptops without a keyboard and the other
laptop with a keyboard, I found it less confusing to have both keyboards set
to laptop.
Alt J for jaws interface
O for options
B for basic and then tab to keyboard and down arrow to laptop and press
enter.
If it is already set to laptop, then try changing the keyboard to desktop.
One or the other may work.
If not, I do not have another suggestion.

List, I use Merrill lynch-Bank of America for my investments and there is a
unresolved issue for many who are using IE11. After trying some possible
fixes, the only alternative right now is for me to use another browser that
is compatible with Jaws.

Ideally a jaws friendly browser that is easy to use.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

[JAWS-Users] another option for pasting text from internet to text document

2013-10-08 Thread John R Vaughn
Mauricio and list, Another option to select the form of text you are pasting
into a document with text copied from the internet is to use the
applications key.
If after copying the text on a web page, go to the blank text or word
document and press the applications key (just to the left of the right
control key). As you down arrow through the list of options, one of the
choices is text. In fact, I find that if I press the applications key and
down arrow two or three times I land on keep text format and then if I up
arrow, the text format option is reached quickly.

Hi

There is a way to do this.

1. Start playing the specific youtube video.
2. Use Jaws key plus z to turn off the virtual cursor.
3. Tab until you reach the unmute button. It is important to know that you
have to tab quite a few
times until you get there.
5. When you get to the unmute button, use the up arrow to turn the volume
up again. You will hear all
kinds of stuff spoken but the sound of the video should increase in volume.

The important thing is to turn off the virtual cursor before following the
other steps and turn it on again
afterwards.

This worked for me.
