I also have a laptop running Windows 8.1 64 bit. Both have Office 365 installed. I have purchased an activation back in the days of Eloquence to use with Window-Eyes. Anyway, I have looked all over the darn place for my serial activation installer which converts Window-Eyes from the standard generic Office serial number to your own unique serial number, so that you then can install voices, and attach the activation to a valid serial. I think I've managed to lose this file in a hard disk crash. I was able to go to the GWMicro web site and paste in my serial number which I found under help/about from my laptop, as that system has already been converted. I just installed W E on the Windows 7 machine two days ago though. I got the copy of the Eloquence activation downloaded for my serial number, as I think I get up to 5 activations, and I have only used one of them. I found the installer activation file on the GW Micro web site where you read about the different voices that can be purchased. I just pasted in my serial, and it took me to my available licenses. But now, I can't find the activation file to convert my copy of W E over to that branded serial, therefore, the Eloquence activation file is useless. How can I go about redownloading that activation file? Again, just to be 100% clear, I'm not talking about the Eloquence activation file. that, I have. RE: Caps Pitch Control
Hi Rick, It is not possible to change the level of pitch for capital letters. We offer the 60 day evaluation version so people can have access to everything Window-eyes has to offer, including the premium synthesizers. If the pitch change isn't enough, perhaps installing the third party cap beeper app. https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/Download/?scriptid=1216 This makes a beep when you move across a capital letter. You can even use a different sound if you don't like the beep the author included. I havent found it in WindowEyes Settings yet though. Some speech operations are still slightly sluggish even with Eloquence which I have to attribute to WindowEyes itself from past experience. That said I am asking about how to improve the speech settings including the pitch change for capitalization - I am pretty sure that is doable but not sure WindowEyes has a setting to do it, we will see. I just dropped 40 bucks to get Eloquence so I hope WindowEyes takes advantage of its feature set. The slight lag times are annoying but not so bad that I will dump WindowEyes all be it I am disapointed so far with WindowEyes performance with a hot synth like Eloquence. But, as mentioned, I will ask on list how to tweak settings to see if I can get things working well enough to not be a constant hassle using WindowEyes. Arrowing through the message list does not seem to be problematic unless I up or downarrow too quickly in which case one or more programs crash, although I am not sure whether the problem is Window-eyes or Eloquence. I do know for certain that Thunderbird 24.6 crashes because, if W E is still running, I can go to the task manager where I get the message asking whether I wish to wait for the program or close it, the program being Thunderbird 24.6. After such crashes, pressing control alt W does not always cause W E to resume. I am now at least temporarily using the Outlook Express hack if or until I can resolve the Thunderbird issues. I know some tend to say almost automatically that I should upgrade to the latest Thunderbird. But I am reluctant to do so because of the constant nags about Thunderbird thinks that some messages are spam. In other areas, Window-Eyes 9.1 is working well for me unless I move around the screen too rapidly. In 9.0, I had thought there were problems with the f8 copy command but later found that this command works far better with Notepad or Wordpad than it does with Ed sharp. Hi, A workaround in thunderbird may be to open messages in tabs instead of Windows. In Thunderbird go to tools/options/advance. RE: How do you turn off chromevox?
If you installed ChromeVox, you have what they refer to as ChromeVox, like jaws refers to the JAWS key or VoiceOver says VO for its modifiers. In ChromeVox you can have the modifier set to control-alt or shift-alt and when your told to hit ChromeVox-a twice, this means you would press alt-control-a twice or alt-shift-a twice really depending on how you have your ChromeVox set up. In Active Directory, the cursoring up or down reads the previous container when in the first 3 branches. This also happens when navigating by typing the first letter of the container. The settings for the up and down arrows are set to read line. I have tried to change to read something else, but that doesn't help. An example would be: we have departments like Public Health and Public Works. If I am on Public Health and press the down arrow to Public Works, WE says Public Health when it should say Public Works. Likewise, when I arrow back up to Public Health, WE says Public Works. The Windows Explorer or any other tree views do not behave like this. RE: Cap enhanced app
Hi, The older vocalizer engine does not support pitch. Vocalizer Expressive does. You could send pitch changes to the older Vocalizer voice and it'll do nothing as far as responding to the pitch change. Same thing goes for some synthesizers, they do not support tone changes, such as the cepstral voices through SAPI. First, I'm not sure if I've ever heard of a synthesizer which did not support pitch changes. If this were so, then, for the synthesizer in question, it would be impossible to change pitch on the fly using the speech parameters hotkeys. Does this actually ever happen, namely, that you cannot change pitch use thing those hotkeys? CapEnhance uses exactly the same method of changing pitch as the user does using hotkeys. Second, in my latest version of CapEnhance, I inserted a routine which temporarily disables both the screen and keyboard capitalization before speaking a cap and then resets them to their previous states. This was to address the problem you had with my earlier version of the app which produced choppy speech even with Eloquence. Of course, I'm no wizard, and who can know what effect the app will have with all of the various synthesizers, not to mention audio devices and their accompanying software. One thing I could do is produce a version of the app which allows for tone changes for caps along with pitch. Again, only real-world testing would prove its effectiveness. This app was my attempt to help you out in your difficulties, and, while I'm glad it works for you with Eloquence, I had serious doubts whether it would help everybody with all synthesizers. Smile Indeed, I have noticed a little delay when moving over caps using the Microsoft Speech Platform synthesizer. Ah, but this is how we learn and progress, isn't it? smile Thanks to you and everyone for the feedback, and please keep it coming. You can google to see if your synth allows for pitch changes and if it does Contac t AI Squared since I don't know if there is a way of working directly with the synth via a script without getting pretty deep. It works well with my Eloquence synth but I don't think I remember it working with the Microsoft synth and I think I remember the Microsoft synth supporting pitch changes but since I am so weak in this arena will just mention that googling or contacting a synth manufacturer is a good jump off point to find out what is possible. It is really nice to have my caps spoken in a higher pitch again and should be a basic feature of any screen reader - and usually is. PS: I had to turn off the speaking of caps in a higher pitch in the WE Control Panel for the Screen since it was really slowing down speech but the CapEnhance does not have this problem at all. RE: follow-up trying to install voice
FWIW, Eloquence is locked to the screen reader. In this way you are not able to use eloquence with multiple screen readers without purchasing a license for that screen reader. If you were to purchase the Vocalizer Expressive or Acapela voices for NVDA you wouldn't be able to use them with Window-eyes. . RE: which version of windows should I get
Hi, You might check out Xplorer2. It is a file manager from: http://zabkat.com/ You can have two folders open and just by pressing f5 then enter can copy from one folder to another. You can press f8 to create a folder, f7 will create a file. All I did was to reclass the list box to a list view and it reads perfectly. Here is an audio demo I recorded a few years ago, the demo is still relevant all though in the latest version they added a ribbon. You can use either the menus or http://www.mysticaccesspodcast.com/audio/mp9xplorer2.mp3 Chris Window-Eyes Product Support Ai Squared 725 Airport North Office Park Fort Wayne, IN 46825 (802) 362-3612 www.aisquared.com -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+cgrabowski=aisquared@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Dave via Talk Sent: Tuesday, March 03, 2015 10:46 AM To: Rick Thomas; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: RE: which version of windows should I get Hello, I too am keeping an eye out for getting a newer system, and also have the same sort of questions as many when it comes to which Windows edition will work best with Win eyes. I know that some like Win 7, and Win 7 is easier if all you do is just start up programs, and you use them just as if you were in Win xP. However, I find Win 7 to be a real Pain when attempting to do much when it comes to moving files, creating new folders quickly, and then moving that folder to another place on the system. I do a LOT of Audio editing and Document sortting, and I am constantly copying files from one place to another. Those of you that use Win 7, 8, or 8.1, if you do a lot of the same sort of work as I have described, which edition of Windows do you find to be the friendllest when it comes to moving files and creating many new temp folders? Same thing here: My new Dell came with a keyboard but it did not have a num lock key, I purchassed another and it came without an Applications Key. I finally Purchassed a third keyboard that has both but the fellow at Best Buy had a hard time finding one with both the num lock and applications keys. My guess is software should be designed around this newkeyboard layout senario since I don't know if it is possible to influence the hardware manufactures to comply with an individual software product in lieu of 99.99 percent of their base client requirements. That or perhaps AI Squared could sell a compatible keyboard and even make a buck for coffee. I don't know the best solution but it seems the large manufacturers are getting away from the applications key and the num lock keys. By the way, the girl from Dell had no clue as to what I ment when I called them about getting a keyboard with both and sent me to a webPage where keyboards were detailed but even there I couldn't figure out which ones came with what I needed to work with WindowEyes and that is why I ended up over at Best Buy and their sales person also had a hard time finding one but, at least, he did find one, at least for now. It is quite frustrating to drop hundreds for a computer only to find out you need to hard scrounge additional hardware if you want to use WindowEyes and there was not anything on the WindowEyes site as to which keyboards were compatible with their software - at least I didn't find anything at the time. I guess in some cases a modified f10 key will work in place of the Applications Key but as far as I know no num lock key can be a killer me thinks. RE: Disgussion of problems with keyboards.
Hi, Again, F8 doesn't work when composing an email. You would use the standard shift-control-arrow keys. The F8 feature only works when browse mode is enabled. Browse mode is enabled in these situations: 1. When browsing the internet using Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome. 2. When reading an email in Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail. Browse mode is not enabled when composing an email or replying to an email. A handy way to find out if Browse mode is enabled is to use the speak summary hot key, control-shift-s. If Browse mode is on, you'll hear page summary information such as the number of links, tables etc. If there are no such elements you'll hear no elements. Hi, After pressing f8 to start selection, Window-eyes should say, selection start. You then navigate without using the shift key to where you want to end selection. Press f8 again. RE: Lines not reading correctly and repairing Wineyes installations
Hi, Just install your current Window-eyes over itself. This has worked for me to fix some Window-eyes install issues. It is like repairing. Help/check for updates. It seems to happen to me when I'm using Mozilla products. Specifically, Firefox and Thunderbird. It's like Window-eyes'll clip words, right? I audibly mentioned the whole lines not reading correctly thing to the Ai Squared staff when I called in the other day when I had another, completely unrelated question about Window-eyes. Also, just so y'all know, I was told by Ai Squared personnel that it is not possible to repair an installation of Window-eyes if for whatever reason you should want or need to do so. You've just got to uninstall and then re-install the whole kit and caboodle. The reasons I asked about just repairing my current Wineyes installation were many. Have any of you heard the descending tones when logging in to systems with multiple users set up? I was hearing that, and to me that seems strange and like it shouldn't be happening because it could be indicative of Wineyes (or one of its related processes) slowing down the overall Windows start up procedure and who wants that? Also, the whole lines not reading correctly thing. Oh and lastly, sometimes in Firefox whenever the Adobe Flash player tries to do certain things on web pages all I can get Wineyes to say without manually executing restorative procedures is, C2Cx16. C2CX16. Wow! That is not helpful at all, in any way whatsoever! Also in Mozilla products (Firefox and Thunderbird) the mouse reading keys still do not work for me. The Ai Squared technical support staff representative that I spoke with thought the mouse keys not reading in Mozilla products had been addressed some time ago. Thoughts? RE: Reading Individual Letters in a FileName
Rick, 1. arrow to the file name you want to read. 2. Press f2 to rename. 3. use your left and right arrow keys to read the file character by character. 4. Press escape to cancel the rename. Or you can download and install a replacement file manager such as Xplorer 2. IMHO it has more features then Windows Explorer. Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard for Business (5KV-00001)
Hi all, I was in the market for a new keyboard. I haven't had a natural keyboard in a number of years and decided to purchase the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard. This keyboard has an interesting feature. It has a wireless numpad. I thought the wireless number pad was an interesting feature. The Jury is still out on that. Both the wireless keyboard and number pad connect to the computer by a wireless transmitter you insert in a USB port. Note: the transmitter was located inside of the battery compartment. They have a space in the compartment to place the transmitter for travel I suppose. The keyboard uses 2 triple a batteries that were included. The number pad uses a watch battery. From reviews I have read the number pad battery is supposed to last a number of years. Plugging the transmitter into the computer was plug and play. It just worked. Mouse navigation seems to work with Window-eyes by using the number pad. On the right top of the keyboard is a switch. If the switch is moved to the left the function keys are media keys, such as play stop etc. If the switch is moved to the right the function keys behave as normal. On the right side of the spacebar you have alt, a applications key and a right control key. To the left of the spacebar you have left control, windows and alt. The 6 pack is a little odd but not bad. Above the right arrow moving up you have page down, page up, end, and home. Above the up arrow you have insert, then delete. The delete key takes the space of three keys.
