Haven't heard of this happening before.

I suggest doing a backup of your working version 9 files. Then try installing
10 again over 9. If you run into the same problem, uninstall 9, install an
empty 10 then restore your version 9 backup.

Hope that helps.

Hello Ian,

In addition to the TB internal backup of your message database and settings, I
would do a full backup of TB program files and data files. I would then
uninstall TB and the message database so you can install 9.3.4 fresh without
any possible corruptions that may have happened in between. Once your new 9.3.4
is installed you should be able to use TB's restore to restore your message
database, address book and settings.

This should avoid any quirky differences that may exist between 4.2 and 9.3.4.
The full backup of TB program  and dataa  files will allow you to return to
your pre-9.3.4 state just in case things do not go as smoothly as we both think
they should.

It sounds as though you are doing it correctly. Do you have access to
the old set-up to create a new TBK file?

MR> Some very specific help would be appreciated here. Thanks!
Assuming you still have access to the original data. You could allow TB
to install with it's normal default data location and then just copy everything
from the original data location to the new data location. I believe that normal
default data location is on the same drive of your installation of TB and is a
sub-directory of your TB installation called something as simple as "Data." I
happen to keep my data on another drive in d:\aBat_Data. Sorry I've had it that
way so long that I don't remember what the default location is.
Let me know if I can be of further help.

2020-02-20 Thread Richard Newman via TBUDL
Hello Tom,

T> thank you for your assistance. When you refer to the tbk file that's the
backup files, right?
Yes, the TBK file is the Bat backup file. To prepare for moving, I would
first go to the Folder Maintenance Center and run everything. That will
compress your files and to hopefully assure that everything is aligned. Then I
would run a new full backup just to use for the transfer rather than relying on
your existing weekly backup.

T> Will that include also my templates?
Yes, your TBK backup should include your templates, account information,
address book, everything. Just make sure that you have checked all the boxes
including global for the backup.

T> Do you think one or the other method is safer?
I think transferring via the TBK backup is safer and cleaner . . . when
it works (it usually does). Running the Maintenance Center first should help
insure this. If it doesn't work, it is probably because of corruptions in your
files that weren't fixed by running Maintenance. Then Peter's method of copying
the data directory over will work, quite probably bringing the file corruptions
over.
Remember, you still have the original data files and,
probably/hopefully, a normal system backup of the same as insurance.

Hope this helps.

Re: Moving to a new pc

2020-02-20 Thread Richard Newman via TBUDL
Hello Tom,

Peter's suggestions should work just fine for you.

I keep my TB data files on a separate hard drive/partition. And have gone
through the same exercise you are encountering. I usually do a backup in TB and
move the files over via the backup to keep things in sync.

If you install TB in the new machine and open TB it will look for a TBK.
1) If you want your data in the normal default location just open the new
install of TB without allowing it to bring over the TBK info or setting up any
account. That will establish the default data directory. Then point TB to your
TBK and it will bring over everything to the default location.
2) If you want you data in another location, give TB that location during
set-up or go back into the installed TB and change the mail directory (under
Options, Preferences, System) to the location you want. Then have TB import
your TBK file.

Your choice on which method you prefer.

Re: Reset Gmail

2019-02-02 Thread Richard L de S Clauson
Hi Richard,

Just catching up with emails in this folder, hence the very late response.

You have set up the GMail account in TB! as a POP3 account (not an IMAP4
account). This means that as TB! has not messages already from this mail
server it will go and download everything in the InBox from start to end,
and that is exactly what you are reporting TB! to be doing.

NOTE: Be aware that TB!, using its default settings, can then possibly
delete all messages from the mail server (GMail in this case) older than 30
days!!!

I'd not heard of the "recent:" prefix before, and haven't Googled about it,
but I suspect, based on some of the other replies, that it may be an IMAP4
feature.

Hope that helps?

Richard L de S Clauson

Thanks for your detailed instructions and the effort you put into send the
instructions.

The technique didn't work for "New messages only"; it brought down 400-500
messages for from 2014. Even if I had TB download "All Messages" it brought
down a newer 400-500 messages from 2014.

So I went into the original GMail account and archived all messages earlier
than yesterday. Now the downloading for that account is only downloading recent
messages as I would expect it to.

Once again, thanks for your input.

Basically the answer to your question is yes.

First I would make a "new current backup" vs one of your
monthlies. Make sure that backup includes Account Properties,
Folders with Messages, Address Books, Global Options and
Attachment Files.

Then restore only Folders with Messages from your 6 month old
backup. The will keep account properties, address books and
global options in sync with your current settings.

Once you search/find for your missing email decide how you
want to restore your latest messages from the "new current
backup".

1) If you do nothing to the Folders with Messages from your 6
month old back and restore Folders with Messages from the "new
current backup" you will probably end up with duplications.
If you use Folders Remove Duplicates the program may or
may not remove duplicates. By my experience, many
 duplicates will remain.

2) If you do #1 and have more duplicates than you like, delete
all non-standard folders in each account and delete all
messages in standard folders other than your original missing
message. That should give you essentially a "blank" TB set-up
with all of your account properties, address books and global
options.
Now if you restore Folders with Messages from your
"new current backup" you should have everything back
to where you started plus the missing message.

I avoid searching for an old message in TB backups, I bcc all
outgoing and incoming email to a Gmail account that I
established just for backups. You may want to consider that
for the future. It's a faster method of recovery.

Marck,

I've now upgraded from v6.8.8 to v7.3.12, but not all the "extra wide"
emails are reformatted to fit inside the message pane of the triple-pane
window. Most disappointed.

Marck,

That sounds excellent news. One of my bug-bears with The Bat! was the way
that it sometimes failed to render an HTML email in a sufficiently readable
way when the sender was cavalier with the sizes of the images they supplied
and slack with the HTML code they used to define their output/display.

I hope that this fix has also been replicated into the way emails are then
printed. Even if the Windows OS HTML Viewer rendering option is chosen the
printing rendering reverts back to that of The Bat! HTML Viewer rendering.

I'll now put in for an Upgrade licence fron v6.x to v7.x.

Thanks

Problems with size (width) of HTML messages using internal viewer

2016-08-30 Thread Richard L de S Clauson
For quite some time (probably over 2 years) dome of the HTML (formatted)
emails I receive are formatted very badly by The Bat!.

What is happening, and mainly caused by large embedded images, is that the
email ends up much wider than the message plane in the 3-plane layout I use
can display (folders all down left side, folder content top-right, message
bottom-right).

When I temporarily switch from "Use The Bat! HTML viewer" to "Use Windows OS
HTML Viewer" the the email is re-sized to fit the Message plane.

Are there any settings, including tweaking the underlying template or
definition or CSS files, that I can change to stop this really annoying
behaviour?

Thanks,
Richard

You just use the Editor in TB. When you are using that editor most of
the available Macros (like %TOFNAME) will appear in a "Macros"
drop-down menu for insertion.

I can't imagine how you have created templates in the past. I

What you seem to be doing is creating a new email (rather than a
template). If that is the case, fields like %TOFNAME can't be
processed.

Rather than your approach try this.

First of all create a template in the account you want the message to
be sent from.

Then, with the group highlighted, go to File --> New --> Mass Mailing Using
Template
Choose your Template (assuming you have one) and then decide:
   Put in Outbox
   Open in Editor
   Save as draft

To test it, "Open in Editor". I almost always Open in Editor so I can
modify if necessary. That particularly is the case with first names
such as wanting to address Leonard as Len and the like.

I think you'll find this a much smoother approach. Or at least, it
fits my style like a glove.

When I send to a group, it is usually a group that I defined as a

Verizon FIOS Throttle

This throttle seems to be aimed at TB because no such delay exists
when email is downloaded into Thunderbird or even screened by
Mailwasher. There is no delay sending (SMTP).

So why did some Beta code, which is know to cause rendering of image
failures, get released in a non-Beta update (i.e. v4.2.42)?

And which files from the previous version (v4.2.40) can we extract from the

I did try re-installing the previous release, but it didn't seem to work.

I've now had a response via the RitLabs Ticket system and they asked for
more information (from .txt & .log files in root of mail directory tree) and
supplied a Beta version since 4.1.7. I'd also looked at paying for the
upgrade from v3 licence to the v4 licence. As I last paid for the upgrade
4 years ago I decided to pay and re-upgrade to v4.1.7 (& then to v4.1.9 as
it was just released). This all worked and I now have access to the Address
Book again. :-)

Don't know what went wring in your case, or where you got your version
(numbers) from. Have you tried doing a compact/compress of your email
message base, and doing a backup, before trying to upgrade again? Also, do
you, like me, need to pay for the upgrade before trying to install it?

message:

I'll raise this with the RitLabs Ticket system, but thought I'd ask here in
case anyone can provide a quick solution. I have reverted to a previous
version of the Address Book files, taken from a backup taken just before the
upgrade, but to no effect.

Are you aware that once a root message is highlighted you can type +

from that point downward will expand/compress in one go. I only found this

Maybe you can set up a Rule/Filter to add the correct header field derived
from the MS-specific header line. For one account I've added the macro
%AddHeader(X-TB-Folder,%FolderName) to the default Reply template. There is
a Rule/Filter option Set User Param which looks like it could do the
setting, and there's the option Set Memo which can contain Macros. There is
also the Run External Program option which may be will allow the running a
process to add the header string.

Even if Outlook/Exchange doesn't create the right threading info, are you
aware that you can Drag'n'Drop one message (tree) onto another message and
therefore can recreate the broken branch of the message tree? Also using
the Shift or Ctrl key while dragging you can break apart a wrongly built
tree.

That message was after the picture. The unnamed common folders were
reflecting the contents of the common junk folder (created by
AntiSpamSniper). When I delete the contents of the junk folder, the
contents of the junk folder under the common folders is also deleted.
If I delete the junk folder, then the three common folders still
remain without a way to delete.

Good idea. And, there is no listed folder for the common folders only
"Common Folders Preferences." The common junk folder does point to a
Junk folder which is in the default directory as "$JUNK$".

Sorry but "delete" is greyed out in Folder/Delete from the

Removing Virtual Folders

2008-05-18 Thread Richard Newman
Hello Bat People,

I recently did a clean reinstall and restore. The only "problem" I
have with the same is that I ended up with one common folder for
"Junk Mail" used by AntiSpamSniper for The Bat and three virtual
folders that point to that common junk mail folder.

How do I get rid of the three virtual folders?

I do exactly the same and I also have a common filter that unflags them
the moment they have been replied to. The filter in my "Flagged" folder
under "properties" is set up as: 'Auto refresh', 'Use fast search' and
'Store between sessions' are all checked. Also, under 'Types', 'Flagged'
and 'Not replied' are also checked.

The common filter is under 'Replied messages' with 'Condition' 'Actions'
Mark the message as unflagged. Share it with your respective Mail folder
and, in 'Options' mark as Active.

Hope that helps.

Fair enough, I can understand your reticence. I was actually replying to

I have found Antispansniper to be a very reliable add on to TheBat! I've
only had 5 false positives out of nearly 16,000 messages since I started
using it. Not a bad percentage I think, and the "pdf" filter has already
worked.

Here's what the author has just posted in the forum. Maybe that'll help
you:

Add the mask "pdf" to the black list of attachment types (Filtering |
Attachments | File types). Only whitelisted senders will be able to send
to you PDF documents in this case. The messages from unknown senders
with PDF in attachment will be blocked.

Why don't you just filter them to their respective folders as soon as
they arrive in your inbox and then read them in situ in the folders. It
seems (unless I've completely misunderstood) that you filter all your
messages to various folders *after* reading anyway?

msl> I have set up so many filters by using either the full email id or its

I don't have any filters at all. I have a friends list and a black words
list and, in 6,000 messages, I've only had 3 false positives. It works a
treat.

msl> the conditions given are the email id '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' or the

Just put the two in your friends list, that should do the trick.
Otherwise go to the user forum and ask the author, he always responds
