Re: lost config
Hello Joe, J> Any suggestions on what I did wrong or what the issue is? Anyone else have this issue. Haven't heard of this happening before. I suggest doing a backup of your working version 9 files. Then try installing 10 again over 9. If you run into the same problem, uninstall 9, install an empty 10 then restore your version 9 backup. Hello Ian, > I need to preserve the existing message database and apart from a > separate copy of the messages and then doing Backup through the Tools > menu, is there any thing I need to do? In addition to the TB internal backup of your message database and settings, I would do a full backup of TB program files and data files. I would then uninstall TB and the message database so you can install 9.3.4 fresh without any possible corruptions that may have happened in between. Once your new 9.3.4 is installed you should be able to use TB's restore to restore your message database, address book and settings. This should avoid any quirky differences that may exist between 4.2 and 9.3.4. The full backup of TB program and dataa files will allow you to return to your pre-9.3.4 state just in case things do not go as smoothly as we both think they should. I believe that normal default data location is on the same drive of your installation of TB and is a sub-directory of your TB installation called something as simple as "Data." I happen to keep my data on another drive in d:\aBat_Data. Sorry I've had it that way so long that I don't remember what the default location is. Let me know if I can be of further help. Re: Moving to a new pc
Hello Tom, T> thank you for your assistance. When you refer to the tbk file that's the backup files, right? Yes, the TBK file is the Bat backup file. To prepare for moving, I would first go to the Folder Maintenance Center and run everything. That will compress your files and to hopefully assure that everything is aligned. Then I would run a new full backup just to use for the transfer rather than relying on your existing weekly backup. T> Will that include also my templates? Yes, your TBK backup should include your templates, account information, address book, everything. Just make sure that you have checked all the boxes including global for the backup. T> Do you think one or the other method is safer? I think transferring via the TBK backup is safer and cleaner . . . when it works (it usually does). Running the Maintenance Center first should help insure this. If it doesn't work, it is probably because of corruptions in your files that weren't fixed by running Maintenance. Then Peter's method of copying the data directory over will work, quite probably bringing the file corruptions over. Remember, you still have the original data files and, probably/hopefully, a normal system backup of the same as insurance. Hope this helps. -- Best regards, Richardmailto:the...@newmangroup.com === Using The Bat! v9.0.16.9 (BETA) (64 bit) on Windows 10 Current version is 8.0.18 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Moving to a new pc
Hello Tom, Peter's suggestions should work just fine for you. I keep my TB data files on a separate hard drive/partition. And have gone through the same exercise you are encountering. I usually do a backup in TB and move the files over via the backup to keep things in sync. If you install TB in the new machine and open TB it will look for a TBK. 1) If you want your data in the normal default location just open the new install of TB without allowing it to bring over the TBK info or setting up any account. That will establish the default data directory. Then point TB to your TBK and it will bring over everything to the default location. 2) If you want you data in another location, give TB that location during set-up or go back into the installed TB and change the mail directory (under Options, Preferences, System) to the location you want. Then have TB import your TBK file. Re: Reset Gmail
Hi Richard, Just catching up with emails in this folder, hence the very late response. You have set up the GMail account in TB! as a POP3 account (not an IMAP4 account). This means that as TB! has not messages already from this mail server it will go and download everything in the InBox from start to end, and that is exactly what you are reporting TB! to be doing. NOTE: Be aware that TB!, using its default settings, can then possibly delete all messages from the mail server (GMail in this case) older than 30 days!!! I'd not heard of the "recent:" prefix before, and haven't Googled about it, but I suspect, based on some of the other replies, that it may be an IMAP4 feature. Hope that helps? Basically the answer to your question is yes. First I would make a "new current backup" vs one of your monthlies. Make sure that backup includes Account Properties, Folders with Messages, Address Books, Global Options and Attachment Files. Then restore only Folders with Messages from your 6 month old backup. The will keep account properties, address books and global options in sync with your current settings. Once you search/find for your missing email decide how you want to restore your latest messages from the "new current backup". 1) If you do nothing to the Folders with Messages from your 6 month old back and restore Folders with Messages from the "new current backup" you will probably end up with duplications. If you use Folders Remove Duplicates the program may or may not remove duplicates. By my experience, many duplicates will remain. 2) If you do #1 and have more duplicates than you like, delete all non-standard folders in each account and delete all messages in standard folders other than your original missing message. That should give you essentially a "blank" TB set-up with all of your account properties, address books and global options. Now if you restore Folders with Messages from your "new current backup" you should have everything back to where you started plus the missing message. I avoid searching for an old message in TB backups, I bcc all outgoing and incoming email to a Gmail account that I established just for backups. You may want to consider that for the future. It's a faster method of recovery. -- Best regards, Richardmailto:the...@newmangroup.com === Using The Bat! v7.4.16.45 (ALPHA) on Windows 10 Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Problems with size (width) of HTML messages using internal viewer
For quite some time (probably over 2 years) dome of the HTML (formatted) emails I receive are formatted very badly by The Bat!. What is happening, and mainly caused by large embedded images, is that the email ends up much wider than the message plane in the 3-plane layout I use can display (folders all down left side, folder content top-right, message bottom-right). When I temporarily switch from "Use The Bat! HTML viewer" to "Use Windows OS HTML Viewer" the the email is re-sized to fit the Message plane. Are there any settings, including tweaking the underlying template or definition or CSS files, that I can change to stop this really annoying behaviour? That brings up a new email What you seem to be doing is creating a new email (rather than a template). If that is the case, fields like %TOFNAME can't be processed. Rather than your approach try this. First of all create a template in the account you want the message to be sent from. Then, with the group highlighted, go to File --> New --> Mass Mailing Using Template Choose your Template (assuming you have one) and then decide: Put in Outbox Open in Editor Save as draft To test it, "Open in Editor". I almost always Open in Editor so I can modify if necessary. That particularly is the case with first names such as wanting to address Leonard as Len and the like. I've now had a response via the RitLabs Ticket system and they asked for more information (from .txt & .log files in root of mail directory tree) and supplied a Beta version since 4.1.7. I'd also looked at paying for the upgrade from v3 licence to the v4 licence. As I last paid for the upgrade 4 years ago I decided to pay and re-upgrade to v4.1.7 (& then to v4.1.9 as it was just released). This all worked and I now have access to the Address Book again. :-) Don't know what went wring in your case, or where you got your version (numbers) from. Has anyone else had The Bat crash after up/down grading to 4.1.7?
Since I've had an abortive attempt to move from 4.0.38 to 4.1.7 (and then reverting to the former version) I have had a problem opening the Address Book. Every time I attempt this The Bat! crashes with the following error message: Access violation at address 0072374C in module ‘thebat.exe’. Read of address 000C. I'll raise this with the RitLabs Ticket system, but thought I'd ask here in case anyone can provide a quick solution. I have reverted to a previous version of the Address Book files, taken from a backup taken just before the upgrade, but to no effect. Maybe you can set up a Rule/Filter to add the correct header field derived from the MS-specific header line. For one account I've added the macro %AddHeader(X-TB-Folder,%FolderName) to the default Reply template. There is a Rule/Filter option Set User Param which looks like it could do the setting, and there's the option Set Memo which can contain Macros. There is also the Run External Program option which may be will allow the running a process to add the header string. >> Unfortunately that can't be remedied from your side. > > Annoying though. > > Maybe TB! will be able to recognise Outlook threading headers one day. Even if Outlook/Exchange doesn't create the right threading info, are you aware that you can Drag'n'Drop one message (tree) onto another message and therefore can recreate the broken branch of the message tree? Re: TB News Client
Hello Deboo, On Fri, 6 Apr 2007 you wrote in D> When TB was at version 2.x, I heard that when TB 3.x arrives, it will D> have a news client too. What happened to that? Is that possible now? you can already get news with TB! using Mygate. Unfortunately it is no longer developed but still works as far as I know. -- Regards, Richard | The Bat! 3.98.9 with POP3 account & AntispamSniper 2.0.0.4 | Windows XP (build 2600) version 5.1 Service Pack 2 | F-Prot AV, Outpost Firewall Pro, Spysweeper, Adaware, SpyBot | CPU: Athlon 1.09 Ghz | RAM: 1024 MB Holiday in France: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/lazyhomes/holiday.html Current version is 3.98.04 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: anti-spam snipper
Hello monsell, On Wed, 28 Mar 2007 you wrote in msl> The spam-filter that i use is 'ANTI-SPAM SNIPPER' which works msl> absolutely fine. Erm, are you sure the name isn't AntispamSniper?? I've just done a google on "Snipper" and can't find it. msl> I have set up so many filters by using either the full email id or its msl> domain only. I don't have any filters at all. I have a friends list and a black words list and, in 6,000 messages, I've only had 3 false positives. It works a treat. msl> the conditions given are the email id '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' or the msl> domain only '@sltnet.lk' Just put the two in your friends list, that should do the trick. Otherwise go to the user forum and ask the author, he always responds very quickly. If you are not using this programme then I'm sorry to have wasted your time:-) -- Regards, Richard | The Bat! 3.98.6 with POP3 account & AntispamSniper 2.0.0.4 | Windows XP (build 2600) version 5.1 Service Pack 2 | F-Prot AV, Outpost Firewall Pro, Spysweeper, Adaware, SpyBot | CPU: Athlon 1.09 Ghz | RAM: 1024 MB Holiday in France: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/lazyhomes/holiday.html Current version is 3.98.04 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
