 QUOTE from it:

Since both zope2 and zope3 are live projects in their own right, and at
this point both have something to offer individually to the development
community and more importantly to each other, and since (probably,
hopefully) ZOPE as a brand is more important for both, why not have a
zope2.org site in addition to zope.org and zope3.org? The main zope.orgsite
could address a common vision and focus on commonalities and common
concerns, while the individual sites could focus on issues specific to them.
I have just now discovered that zope2.org as a domain name is available
and have requested it to be booked. How do I transfer it to the zope
community, if it gets booked at all?

 UNQUOTE

There was no significant response to the mail.

The domain name has since been registered and I have been keeping it booked
(not for my personal benefit -- I have not used it) since Dec. 2005. I
repeat: I am willing to transfer it to zope community, if someone tells me
 how to do it.

I just looked and for some strange reason the ZODB has grown to over
30 GB, which means it more than doubled in size since the last full
backup on August 2. Looking at the backup files from repozo it appears
the massive growth happened over the last few days, those daily
incrementals since August 2 range from 5-6 GB in size each.

I have now freed up 3 GB by deleting the remaining delta files from
the previous round of backups, but this may not be enough seeing how
fast the database is growing. Something fishy is going on.

Hi, this was caused by spamming 2 collector issues in member space, each
holding a transcript of about 1 MB and more.

I removed the issues, blocked the spamming user account and finally
changed default roles for everything collector related to 'Manager'.

Uhhhm. Why are we changing this? IMHO passing 0 should work and I don't
see what the actual breakage is.

There is another bugfix related to paster.httpserver in zope.publisher
3.5.3 (2008-06-20)

Bugs fixed:

* It turns out that some Web servers (Paste for example) do not send
the EOF character after the data has been transmitted and the read() of
the cached stream simply hangs if no expected content length has been
specified.

Could be the same reason as with XMLRPC

I'm fine with the patch. I just don't understand why we need it. :/

 Here's a small readability suggestion:

 lines = ''
 while True:
 line = self._body_instream.readline()
 if not line:
 break
 lines += line

I think assigning assigning an unused value can lead to confusions and
the head-controlled loop obfuscates whats actually going on.

Thanks for your suggestion, will use it.

 Bugs reported:
 zopeproject: https://bugs.launchpad.net/zope3/+bug/283089
 grokproject: https://bugs.launchpad.net/grok/+bug/332063

Bump - maybe my description was too complicated, but the issue is serious:

XMLRPC is broken at least with paste.httpserver

Any input on the implications of reverting the change in revision #66941?

I've looked at the various APIs of actual objects that need to consume
the size hint parameter (cStringIO, StringIO, file, socket._fileobject).

All of them should be fine getting a 0 as an argument, but file and
cStringIO will break if they get `None` instead of 0:

 Type| readlines() | readlines(None) | readlines(0)
 +-+-+--
 file| works | TypeError | works
 StringIO| works | works | works
 cStringIO | works | TypeError | works
 socket._fileobject [1]_ | works | works | works

.. [1] I've only looked at the code and reasoned about this.

What I'm puzzled about is that the commit message of 66491 mentions
compatibility to StringIO but that would have worked just fine with
`None`. So this either actually means compatibility with file or
 compatibility with cStringIO.

Nevertheless: passing in 0 seems to be the safe bet in general and I
wonder what is actually breaking. I haven't seen a traceback be attached
at either bug. Also, those bugs should probably be marked as duplicates.

The Windows Python binary (2.4 and 2.5) is built with Visual Studio

replaced by the free Visual Studio 2005 Express.

What you can do without further problems is: install cygwin (or MingW),
compile Python from source with cygwin, finally compile Zope from source
under cygwin.

This is atm also the only way to get Python eggs with C extensions

Alternative to reload().

This works by executing the module in a scratch namespace, and then
patching classes, methods and functions. This avoids the need to
patch instances. New objects are copied into the target namespace.

- center column:
added the first paragraph from MembersFAQ to fill the space
betweem 'Zope for...' and the Zope/Plone training announcements
- right column:
added a 'Planets' section on top of the sidebar
featuring planet.zope.org and planet.plone.org
- any other planets to include there ?
changed the number of NewsItems in the 'News' section
from 7 to 5

zope.org/Wikis
- each ZWikiPage under that folder now has a message
describing its 'read-only' state and the move
to the new location at http://wiki.zope.org/...
  - the message is inserted into the
'header/portal_message' macro

It is a custom mix of unix tools, mark pilgrims feedparser module and

There are just 2 files changing at http://planetzope.org, the web

solution is updating an adaption of both files every hour to a location

You can insert the value of a dynamically named variable using the '?'

 tal:attributes=onmouseover string:doTooltip(event,

should do the trick. This only works inside path expressions.

I meant the bar holding the object, folder, user, workflow and global

M2Crypto. I think this may give you a hint towards SSL and Zope-2.9.0

http://www.zope.org/Members/lerouxa/zopehttps

Try it first with test certificates provided with
M2Crypto/demo/zope/{ca.pem,server.pem,dh1024.pem,randpool.dat}

Best regards

Al

Hello, thank you. I've tried to install this software, but it doesn't
work. First of all the downloaded package seems to be inclomplete.
bunzip complains about garbage at the end of the file. Second, after
copying files and patching __init__.py in the ZServer directory, zope
doesn't start anymore. It complains about missing HTTPS_Server package.
If I borrow this one from m2crypto 0.15, then it complains about missing
asyncore, then missing FCNTL. I'm stuck. What else can I do?

You should contact the package author (CCing him now)

I think worldcookery.com and tiks.org are running using ReST and Zope 3.
Are we planning to use any of these?

Some thoughts on what you could do localy with the SVN checkout ::

  - just run the files through 'buildhtml.py'
   (included with your docutils distribution)
to look at the files in a browser
  - invest one hour and write a reST publisher to put some
decorations on top and bottom of the pages
ex: http://zopeweb.d2m.at/project.html
(this runs in z3, simply using the ressourceDirector directive)
  - reuse the packages the codespeak site is created from:
http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/www/trunk/

Worldcookery has the 'Page' content type which renders text, reST and
STX to html, i added a HTML pass-through renderer and could provide a
checkout of a stand-alone 'page' package.

To answer this (and what Tonico mentioned in his posting) i'm using

2005-12-16 Thread Michael Haubenwallner

Jan-Ole Esleben wrote:

Thanks; this is a problem we are well aware of. Our solution is to
increase the amount of workers, obviously.

However, I'm increasingly getting a feeling that for a rather big
range of unlikely situations that are nonetheless to be expected, Zope
doesn't work _at all_. In a WebServices setting, situations like the
one I described, with one server calling back to another server within
a call from that latter server and both not knowing anything about the
implementation of the other, it would most certainly be extremely hard
to foresee the exact setup of such situations and impossible to
exclude them for persistent objects that actually _do_ change state
(unlike mine). The solution is to not have state in your objects, and
thus lose instantly most of what Zope is.

However, as I see it, the problem is that what Zope actually _is_
(i.e. mostly the ZODB) is an unhealthy way of coupling data and
implementation (which is _exactly_ why my implementation didn't work
immediately). This of course comes from its origins in TTW development
where there wouldn't actually have been many user made products.

Please tell me if I'm wrong with my assumption above, and why. I'm not
trying to be inflamatory, this just has me really worried.

Ole

You could try XMLRPCMethod.
It creates its own worker thread and has a configurable timeout.

At the moment http://dev.zope.org/Zope3/Zope310 is the only available doc.

It says
'Installation instructions for both Windows and Un*x/Linux are now

Which means, you need to download the tarball to get to install

Would you like to comment on the questions below ?

Questions when using the binary installer on windows:

* already installed zope3 versions are recognized by the installer
* the user is prompted to uninstall first
* user knows where to uninstall
* user knows the name of the program to uninstall
* installer uninstalls on demand
* installer installs and exits
* user knows the place of the installation
* zope program group is created

  * start.bat - startup zope
  * nt-service - install as a windows service
  * uninstall
  * documentation

I revisited the SQLSession product a year ago for a consuling customer,
making their hacked version a drop-in replacement for the transient
storage. I can't release their code, but I maybe learned enough then to
redo the task as a PluggableSessions product, using the
PluginRegistry product to manage the different requried bits.
Well, I have a ZSQLSessionDataManager implementation based on the standard
SessionDataManager with some changes. It appears to work fine when I test our
application (which makes heavy use of sessions).
So far the SQL code is geared towards Postgres (and gadfly, I think). It'd
need some tweaking to work on MySQL ('cos MySQL is *special*) and I'm not
interested in doing that work ('cos MySQL is *special*).

Well, it does *sometimes*. Whenever I make a new release though, the zope.org
permissions seem to be screwey and end up giving people an error when they
try to view the page!

So I made two releases in quick succession today, and whoever manages zope.org
did get those releases through publication quickly (though again, the page
came up as an error in the mean time). Unfortunately, an erroneous release I
made - which I did not mark for publication that I'm aware of, and had a
meaningless ID - was also published. I've now marked it as retracted (there
doesn't appear to be any way to *delete* a release), meaning the
ZSQLSessionDataManager is again inaccessible by regular users. Sigh.

Hi Richard,
that is a very old problem with software releases - any 'private' file
inside the current release blocks the access to the release and only
folder_contents works for some roles. You can retract the file it is in
'private' state and you remove it from the folder yourself.
It takes some time for the caches to update too.

Hi,
I'm getting some errors with certain feeds, but not others, in CMFSin.
The errors seem to have something to do with the portaltime and
localized time. Someone suggested changing the permissions for anonymous
to fix this. Doing that made all my feeds malfunction, so that's not the
right answer.
I know CMFSin is old and it seems to be getting flaky. But I really need
an aggregator for my project, and it doesn't seem like there's anything
much better out there right now.
Here's what happens when I use a feed from National Public Radio
(http://www.npr.org/rss/rss.php?topicId=3). I know the feed is working.
CMFSin's debug panel shows the results of the feed very plainly. The
problem is in the display of the feed (which is either Zope or Plone's
fault, though I can't tell which right now):

Zope2 folders are designed for this. They are really just blank
objects where you can specify your own methods in instance space.
Traditionally in Zope2, there are two ways to do this: by adding
method objects (External Methods, DTML methods, python scripts, ZPT)
directly to the folder. Or by adding these objects above the folders
and aquiring them which is a type of environmental inheritance. In the
CMF this is codified in the skins tool which contains global methods
which can be applied to basically any object in the site.
Great explanation - would you give me a hint on the CMF part ?
Which global methods do you speak of ?

Could someone verify this?

Could you suggest a fragment of DTML which would serve as a test case?
Such a fragment would either:

  - fails if your suspicion is true, but shouldn't?

  - doesn't fail, but should.

What i found with a fresh 2.6.3-win32 and CMF-1.4.2 was this:

AttributeError: min
This is in part already mentioned here:
http://zope.org/Collectors/Zope/1169
The bad with the missing min is, that it is used in CMF at
portal_types/{typename}/manage_propertiesForm (OFS/properties.dtml) to
create the size of the multiple select boxes.
So TTW/ZMI type-property administration is not possible.
