@Rastislav: I'm totally amazed that you even have made it so far regarding the game development. It sounds like you are able to plan the future for the project, which is really great. The strength is not to be the best developer, but to know what your goal is with your project, and then having the will to keep working on the project, until your goal has been reached. I'm amazed that you are even able to learn all that stuff, coding it all in C++ etc. That's really not an easy task, and not something an unexperienced programmer is able to do. If you not are an experienced programmer, you must be able to learn and understand very quickly how it all works. So, keep up the fantastic job. I'm really excited...

Hi.[[wow]], I'm so glad to read that more accessibility in Madden really is coming. I'm really, really excited for this, even when knowing that the game won't be fully accessible at the beginning. Being able to complete a match in an accessible way because I know what I'm doing and get that confirmed by sounds or rumple is a huge huge step in the right direction for me. I fully understand that this is not enough for everyone. As Marian describe, that doesn't mean everyone can just pick up the game and start playing, because there still is a huge learning curve. But this is still a huge step in the right direction, which makes blind people able to play, if they are willing to learn how everything works.I'm even extremely excited for this, even when American football not is very popular here in my country. I will help by writing a guide, explaining how everything works, because I think such guide is needed for all those who don't have a
 ny sighted help for gaming.I'm also excited that those new accessibility features will make us able to play against sighted people who don't need those extra features. If that'll work for online gaming as well so we can play against random sighted people, that'll be so fantastic...I think this interest from EA in making the game more accessible, will make many more blind people interested in the game in generel, and American football as well. First of all, this just might be the news, and the game, that will make me want to upgrade to the xbox1/1s for good, considering the fact that accessibility is already being implemented in very near future releases. I would have a suggestion for the menus though. On the xbox1 at least, Microsoft did open the Text to Speech api for use in games. You could just have the speech synthesizer speak all the menus. I can't speak for the ps4 because with all due respect, Microsoft has Sony beat by a landslide as far as accessibility is concerned. But if you can't implement tts functionality in the ps4 version of the game, you definitely can in the xbox1 version. That way, you wouldn't have to memorize any menus. Other than that, what we have so far is still very impressive and most definitely a step in the right direction.

Yeah. I was gonna say this before it does start turn into a flame war, and this is just factual. All the major screenreaders are good. Jaws has its strength in supporting the obscure proprietary business interfaces that people go out of their way to make in-house Jaws scripts for, either because they haven't heard of nvda, refuse to work with anything open-sourced, or just are going along with it as Jaws is, by a large margin, still the international standard for access software. Jaws also is good in that it has several training materials, and even the reader itself holds your hand quite a bit if you allow it to. Nvda, on the other hand, is strongly suited for the advanced user as window-eyes was when it was around. It *can* be used by a beginning computer user willing to jump into the deep-end of learning various tasks, but for someone intimidated *a beginning computer user in general,* Jaws and Leasey would suit them and work very well for their purposes. Look, the thing wi
 th these screenreaders is that *some accessories* for them, such as Leasey, are marketed at a specific audience. Leasey for example, caters to computer beginners and somewhat advanced users. Nvda is for those who either are technologically advanced, programmers on the open source front, and people who are willing to go all in when learning how to use a computer. Does Jaws cost a lot? Yes. Taking into account they are a corporation who has a full-scale amount of employees to hire. But let's just say it's, more than the average customer can afford, but the definition of average may vary. The long and short of it is, while there will be a time, naturally, when proprietary screenreaders will have to go as open source accessibility becomes more prominent, all 3 screenreaders have an active target audience receiving them in the meantime. And if that audience consists of state agencies? Well, whatever satisfies Fs's wallet will suffice, I suppose. Lol! But Orco's absolu
 tely right, being heavily opinionated about screenreaders and deficiencies really doesn't do much to help the situation. Indeed, FS doesn't really play by that standard as they have been seen trolling the hell out of Nv Access in short random comments here and there, but on the same side there are elitists in the Nvda community, not the main developers but active members, who will do the exact same thing. I think the time for playing sides and staying on them has to come to an end somehow, and anyone in the argument need s to see both sides of the coin. Indeed, there was an ad on the trade-list, talking to playing both sides, that I think would deserve ad of the year, because it proves my point. Someone would transfer and sell their Jaws18 license, with a twist. There wasn't a set price, but the Jaws 18 license would go to the bidder who made the largest contribution to NV Access, it had to be above $200. But the largest amount would get the Jaws 18 license. And that,
  is a great way to play both sides without getting too up-close and personal in the argument. A person that swears up and down by Fs and has a fair amount of cash could buy a license for Jaws while contributing to NV Access at the same time, making it a win-win for both sides. I'd love a site specific _javascript_ disabler, something like that could be set up to use the noscript part of the page and might make inaccessible or difficult to access pages a lot more accessible. Unfortunately, something like that would have to be written as a browser add on which means every page you look at is going to have to be processed by at least a small part of the add on which would just slow things down.While a single add on like this might not produce a noticeable slow down, after you add it, an ad blocker, and a few other add ons you want and you start significantly adding to the code that has to process each page you look at and it begins to add up.

@shotgun shellI'm not going to get into it with you over the merits of one screen reader over another, so this is my last word on it.As Joe Steincamp of the Blind Bargains podcast said, "It does nobody any good to write disparaging remarks about other people's choices for a screen reader. Such remarks add nothing to the conversation and are more likely to start a useless flame war than anything else. If you can't not say disparaging remarks about other screen readers, perhaps it would be best for all concerned if you kept those remarks to yourself."

First off, let me say that, hearing all of this is absolutely fantastic and really, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for it.I do have to admit that, having a blind fiancé and no real desire to bring over sighted assistance and not able to a majority of the time, there are a few things that need to be included before I even consider this, well, and mainstream games in general.Let me explain.  While I understand that blind people play mainstream games, I’m less inclinded to do so.  I have a job, and am finishing up my degree, and, basicly, I don’t want to make gaming work.  By this, I mean memorizing menus, writing down menus, asking for help as to which team or game mode or difficulty setting or whatever is I’m just not interested.  While I commend those that are, and fully support playing mainstream games, I just want to sit down and play a game – if I want commentators off, I want to be able to turn it off, not put up with it because I don’t know how to navigate the menus.  That goes for the team selection.  If I want to run a season with my Dallas Cowboys, I don’t want to have to start games with the wrong teams and figure out how I got there and hope it works the same.  Basicly, I want to enjoy it like everyone else.This, to be honest, is why I don’t have a console – I just can’t justify spending $300 on something that I can’t use to it’s fullest potential.  While I commend Microsoft and Soni for including speech in their consoles, I just don’t think, as of right now, it’s worth the money, simply because for another $50 on top of the console, I have to put work into something for fun.  I absolutely love hearing, though, what’s going on with the title being talked about, I just believe that, for me, it’s still got a ways to go before I would consider purchasing it.This comes from someone who, as a blind guy all my life, has owned a console up to the PS2, and spent a fair amount of time with an xbox 360 (my brother’s).  I also had the time back then I wanted to spend.If, or hopefully when, EA decides to give madden the accessibility to my standards of what I will be willing to shell out that kind of cash for, I’ll buy it in a heartbeat – I’ve loved football games, and hope to continue to do so in the future.I know there are going to be those that are saying “I play lots of games on xbox,” which I agree.  I’ve seen lots.  I just want more than fighters and games I can actually play, win, and complete all the way without having to work.  I use work to mean not work at playing the game, but work at playing it successfully – ill sink time into a game, just not into preparing for it; I’ve got other things I enjoy/have to do than to memorize menues, fiddle around with cameras for hours to figure out where I’ve got to go because, well, the game is half accessible. etcetera.  IT’s like Grand theaft auto.  I’d love to play that, too, but, while running around killing things and driving cars off bridges is great fun, it’s not $50 fun.  I want to do the missions and all that, too, and as of now, I can’t.  The game, to me, isn’t accessible; it’s not even playable.  I can only do a fraction of what’s there.

The if(time.elapsed>1000) bit should not happen. If that was in the version I posted (I'm not seeing it on my copies), it was probably to prevent it from getting stuck for debugging something long ago.The reason dt isn't reporting right is that you defined it as a member variable based on the timer, and the time between the timer starting and dt being defined is less than a millisecond. You'd want to define dt either when setting delay (if you want a fixed dt), or before restarting the timer (if it's based on the timer). I generally just define dt when calling the game's step/update/tick method, and pass it around from there.The line wait((elapsed>=delay) ? 1 : delay-elapsed); uses the ternary operator. It's one of those things that isn't intuitive if you aren't familiar with it, but saves time when you are.Basically, this:a= (b) ? c : d; is the same as:if (b) a=celse a=d;It's just a
  sort of shorthand.

Hey all,I don't have an answer to the "what happened," question, but I will say that Dark Room is a mainstream game. The fact it's accessible is due to an interested blind player contacting the author, which is something I wholeheartedly recommend. There doesn't need to be such a big divide between mainstream titles and audio games, and it's a shame one still exists.

I don't think any of these games are accessible, but I'll try them out.Just by looking at the webpages for each game, it seems like the majority of them (if not every single one) are visual in nature. I haven't ran the code yet, so I'll see what happens then.BTW, it seems like vbtutor does use VB6.

Hello.So, for anyone who doesn't know about the braille note, the braille sense, or the braille plus, I will post an article on Wikipedia and a synopsis of a DM that I received on twitter about them. Hims and Gw Micro struck a distribution agreement, and thus, Gw Micro was the official US distributer of the Hims products. Gw and Hims worked together on a lot of the English translation. Eventually, though, Hims and Gw broke up with no hard feelings whatsoever as Hims opened a US office in Austin. So the Braille Sense Classic and Plus were distributed through Gw, and the On-hand later became the first product distributed by Hims themselves in the US. The Braille Plus? Well, there were two twi
 n products, that is the Braille Plus Mobile Manager from Aph and the Levelstar Icon. Both products had nearly identical feature-sets, ran Linux, and whatnot. The Braille Plus 18 was a collaboration between Aph and Levelstar, later discontinued somewhere around  2016.Now, for the question I had. Lets compare these devices. These devices share similarities, but I'll be talking about 1 difference, which nobody has asked about. Look at the operating systems these braille devices run on. The braille note and the braille sense both ran Windows CE, while the braille plus ran Linux. My question is, why? Why did Humanware and Hims not use Linux too? Linux is open sourced and easy to update, while windows CE is closed and could only be updated by Microsoft. What was the obsession with Windows CE. Also, why didn't APH keep updating the braille plus's operating system, why did they have to rewrite the whole thing in Android? It would have been easy 
 to update things without taring it down and rebuilding the whole thing from scratch. I'm not sure if anyone could answer the question, but I would like to have theories on why this might be. Any answer would be appreciated.

The addon doesn't support changing any settings such as rate, pitch, and inflection. @Orko,I have heard that crap so many times, and while I will grant that the audiogame market is a small one, and that a dev cannot make a living solely based on that community, what pisses me off is the attitude that just because they are making mainstream games instead of specific audio ones, they cannot code for both.  There is no reason why he or she cannot incorporate accessibility into mainstream games that they do make a living off of.  Why can't devs program for the mainstream market, but incorporate accessibility into their code?  This is especially true for huge companies with huge developer teams.  You'd think with hundreds of coders, they could figure out a way to add accessibility, and because of the number of coders, it shouldn't be too much hassle.  And for developers who have coded audiogames in the past, if he or she once programmed a game for the blind, and he or she has chosen to program mainstream games for the world
 , why not continue to implement access to us as well?  I find the laziness and overall attitude baffling, since most programmers I know are total nerds who would relish a challenge like that.

XLN Audio Addictive Drums 2 Now accessible

This is still in beta and is not public released, but I wanted to share this with you guys.  THis is a drum VST called Addictive Drums 2 by XLN AUdio.   When I had my vision, I always recorded with drum VST's because they sound so amazing, and was able to trigger them with my electronic Roland TD drum kits.  Well, when I lost my sight, I lost the ability to use the VST I was using, and there are no drum VST's that are accessible, that are good..until ow...This is a demonstration of a beta that we're working on.  It's right now loaded inside of Sonar X3 Producer, which is accessible (See my other thread), and I'm able to do a lot of the basic stuff, like midi mapping, preset selection, changing out kit pieces,  assigning  track outputs, etc.  There's still a lot to do, but this will definitely be a great start and  progress from what it once was, nothing.This software ini
 tially had zero keyboard shortcuts, but now uses the arrow keys, tab, shift, and the enter keys to control the software.We are using NVDA and making it work with OCR.   It is going to be part of my SIBIAC add-on, but we may make it it's own add-on as well.   This allows us to work in the framework they created the software with, and we're doing everything we can to make it as accessible as possible, but this is definitely a good start.Check it out: https://youtu.be/myJ8xburS2g

Let me rephrase what I said. I don't think Q9 itself is a waste of time, but if you were to buy leacy just for that, plus a few extra games and a few extra features for Jaws, yes, I think it's a waste of time. As for buying Jaws, I have to point out that NVDA is free and has a lot more features to it if you install addons, which by the way are also free. If you're paying for Jaws, you're paying about $900 for a screen reader with fewer features, and 200 extra to get a few more features, plus a few games. Of course, this is just my opinion, and if people like Jaws, that's perfectly fine with me. I'd ask for other opinions, but I think that's better suited for another topic.

Jaws can be obtained much, much more cheaply if you can get certification. I'm not sure what the cost of applying is, but after that it's just a multiple-choice test, and you get a few tries to score 80% or higher. Certification cuts the cost down to 10% the normal price.

At Ethin, thank you for the reply, I have tried setting all of my datatypes to text already, and I was getting an error, once I changed the datatypes to match the python datatypes, it seemed to function better. I am not sure why. I tried changing everything to blob, but I got some other error, so I changed it back. I figured out the error I was having though.I was using filter() to filter out all of the None values from my tuple, but as a result it was returning an iterator not a tuple, and the execute() function only takes tuples as an argument. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I also disagree that Q9 is a waste of time. Side scrollers aren't my favorite type of game mainly because I'm not very good at them, but that doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed all the hours I've spent playing Q9, even if I can't beat it on easy!What I'd like to do now is figure out where the games registration data is stored so I can save it to a .reg file for future use. As it is now, to set it up I have to first install Leasey, then the games module, then run Q9. Then terminate the game with the task manager, then manually remove Leasey and the games module from my system, then finally run the Blast Bay Studio installer.If I could capture the registration data, then I could skip all the non sense  with Leasey and the games module.But, if I ever find it, don't ask me for a copy. I may not agree with what Phillip ultimately did with the game, but I will honor his decision by not distributing t
 he registration codes.

I just use the MVPS hosts file from MVPS.org, and I get no ads, and the nice thing about it is that it works with all browsers because it blocks the ads  at the TCP/IIP protocol driver. No additional software to slow down your browser is needed, assuming the software even supports your choice of browser in the first place. It simply uses a feature that's been built into the protocol driver since Windows 95 and probably earlier.

Hi.An extra step would be to not only have a BrailleNote Classic or BrailleNote mPower, but you'd also need a cable with serial on one end and USB on the other. You'd have to go to Remote Synthesizer on these devices in order to interface it with a screen reader of your choice. Sorry Apex users, you don't have Remote Synthesizer on there. Alternatively you could TRY to find a Keynote SA hardware synthesizer somewhere. Older BrailleNote units are found pretty cheaply these days, so those would be your best bet.

Don't get Adblock plus. Their motive isn't completely driven by people who hate and despise ads, and will allow businesses to pay them to not block ads. Get Ublock Origin instead, if you want a true ad blocker.

not sure what happened to the dev of a dark room iOS and Ensign

Hi all,I recently started playing A Dark Room and the Ensign again.I wanted to relive what hapened when these games were made accessible, and re-read what the dev had put on the subject. However, I have noticed, that his big post about the blind community seems to ahve vanished from his website. In fact, his website is no longer a blog and seems to have completely changed, but it is still, definitely, him, that much I can tell. I think he once had reddit but even the posts on that are gone.I don't know what's happening now, and it'll be a shame if some of this info has been lost to time again. At least for now we've still got the games.

Hi Simba. There are bomber platforms above. If you have the sonar thing you can detect them. If you walk underneath these platforms, it starts the bombs falling and if you hang around underneath them you won't live long. Carla doesn't set them off, nor do enemies, only you do. The trick is to use your sonar to know where they are, then speed past them and fight in  the space between each one.

I agree. Probably not one of Philip's smarter decisions. As for the game I definitely enjoyed it a great deal. Heck, I did a let's play of it on YouTube a while back LOL. I still have my registration (although remembering on which specific storage device I backed it up may take a while), so I'm spared the necessity of buying the overpriced scripts. I won't go so far as to say that JFW isn't worth the price, although after ten years of using Window-Eyes the switch back has been a little hard, more emotionally than anything else. But getting back on topic I love the atmosphere of the game not to mention the music.

Firstly you'll need a Braille Note that has Keynote Gold such as the MPower. Then somehow you interface that with NvDA. If you don't have the device, you can't do it that way, and there is no reliable software implementation of it on Windows that I know of.

yes, the controls are exactly the samei tried to play re 4, with all my heart, but it was not posible.some years ago i tried to play re 5, and that one was easier. i reached chapter 4 with a crapload of patience, but the game is also umnplayable. i did it because i wanted to advance, but people.. walking 80 minutes to find a door don't know the english _expression_ for this, but i'll say i had lots of time in my hands indeed

I always lose her when there are many rocks falling at the same time. I often tryed helping her with the remote kitt, but I always die after that because I get hit so often. It might be a tendency for flare to trump overall design in game development, but I've never found a propper 3d audio game to be very accessible at all. It's sort of an uncanny valley thing, where all you have is HRTF, and it is just realistic enough to be confusing and make things like inaudible walls all the more troublesome. The way Swamp does it, IMO, communicates much better than any of the HRTF-enabled games I've played, even though most of the latter include spoken messages to try and help.In real life, if it can be helped, we don't ever navigate by sound alone—there's texture and proprieception and the way the air moves, smells, and the way sound is affected by the environment (something I have yet to hear in a game, probably because the calculations are kinda extreme). 3d sound alone changes nothing but to distinguish the y/z directions. That's great and all, but so far, it's been a gimmick rather than especially useful.I'm walking around as I type this, between 2 rooms and a hallway. I have neither taken my hands away from the phone, nor ran into  anything, except the one moment I realized I was doing what I was talking about and so my knee picked that moment to find a protruding couch-cushion. When I play free-movement HRTF games without Swamp-style direction-snapping and sonar, I find myself desperately wanting a "put the wall you keep hitting on your left/right" button after 5 minutes of getting lost. So yeah, Swamp doesn't have HRTF, but it lets you align to the compass (IRL you'd do this via walls, curbs, or the sun), and the radar functions a lot like a simplified cane. If we could 'find a way around needing these features, great! It hasn't really been demonstrated, so far as I can tell.

"How to program in Java" is wonderfully nonspecific. In one sense, it's kinda like C++, except everything is in classes and you don't have to worry about garbage collection or pointers. Except then you have Java turning everything into classes, including class creation, until you have to define a 5-class deep hierarchy just to do some simple thing, like catch an exception that you were just going to read the message for in the first place. I can't tell if Android programming is more like programming, or more like classes all the way up.

A crash can happen for any number of reasons which we can't figure out unless we have more information. In the dialog where it crashes, can you find more details about the error?

Yes, the features will work on same-console multiplayer. Each player can set their preferences, and only those with the feature turned on will feel the additional rumbles.

Hi.While it will be a more difficult job to complete one of those games if it's even possible, I wanted to try out a resident eavel game because I heard that apparently, some are accessible to a certain point.I would be willing to try one of those games if I can be sure that I can actually complete the whole game because with this, I would actually have an objective to follow.So my question is, did someone on here complete a resident eavel game on PC and can tell me more about it?Thanks in advanceGreetings Moritz.

According to all the sources I use, there are several because none are 100% accurate, Speed 2: Cruise Control was never released on DVD or Blue Ray with audio description. So your only hope is if a broadcaster like the BBC or Sky TV decides to have it audio described in preparation for broadcasting and somebody decides to capture the audio.

Hello all, it's been quite a while since my last post on this topic.I've currently dealing with a bit of a problem, which is not syntax related.The way I learn most programming languages is via looking at source code. Alas, the only open-source games for VB (that I'm aware of) are Chopper Patrol by BSC, and Guess the Number by Jim Kitchen.Are there any other open-source audiogames in VB that I'm not aware of?

It will work and was tested with all versions of the Xbox One and PS4. The extra rumbles will have to be enabled, and audio cues are always on. I'll provide key press instructions on how to do that as soon as it's released, as audible menus are unfortunately not part of the title update. Once you turn it on, it will save the setting and it will always be on.

If you mean the old note takers that are Windows Based, as far as I know yes, there is an SDK. But it was only available on request and you first had to demonstrate that you know how to program to obtain it. I read this. years ago on a Polish site specialising in AT news. For the Polaris, you shouldn't need one as it's Android based so you can just program using the standard Android SDK.

Hello.Well actually, At the moment, Or i better say since a bit a go(a fiew days maybe), I've been thinking why most of the game developers (At the moment, Sam and ivan i mean), kepped using some sort of sounds in their games that are really not realistic. I think they can use some better sounds for there development. I know how hard sam tupy and his friends designed and edited those sounds, But things may be more realistic if for example, Sam changes the shotgun sound in redspot. Or ivan soto changes the machine gun sound in the killer. Since 2015 or at least since when i learnt these games and got into them actually, We had these footstep sounds this long. Why not changing them, Oh btw before anyone tell me that how hard is doing that, And devs need to buy new libraries but with which money? Or stop playing the game if you don't like i want to say that i know all these stuff lol but these opinians were suggestions. Not a force or something.Another thing tha

Well after survive the wild, That i really can't stick to it and play it like before for some private reasons, Our comunity is getting some sort of battling games like redspot or the killer. But i'm thinking how good could it be if the devs would change some stuff in their games. In "my" opinian, It no longer feels good that you come online in a game, go and get your kills to 20, and be marked as the best player in that game, Then someone kills you or you lose connection... Erm, you get kicked out and everything's done. Collecting items, Making bases/shelters making up a team and after a while your teammembers all die and your team goes boom, And similler stuff. But i think devs can make their players feel better about their games. Like my suggestion is that when a player makes an account(enters the game), they don't have no more than a simple pistol. Then when they kill each other, They may get othe
 r's guns. And other guns may be found on polices hands. Yeah, I mean AI's that may shoot players if they do something wrong(In this case, Shooting at them or others). Each player may have some money, And when a player kills another player, He/she may get their money, And buy stuff from the "stores" around the game. Each store may have a shopkeeper(Which is an AI), then player will buy stuff from the shopkeeper. Shopkeepers need to be able to die when they get hit by bullets or similler things, But that should not be easy. Shopkeepers have to be equipped very well so not everyone dares to do anything wrong to them. (In this case, Getting help from alter aeon's gameplay)Players should have clothings like stw, But they should not be for fun. They have to raise or decrease player stats like max HP, Their defense and their damage or strength. Also players may be able to steel others cars and by the way! Players should not be able to carry a car in their inv
 entory. Cars need to be placed on the ground, And players have to bounce on them while running at them, Just like dmnb.These are not clonings or steeling ideas. These are some helps that we can get from other more expert devs. If you don't beleave that yet, Let me bring you some examples.I know that all of you know GTA but i also know or maybe think that none or most of you don't know the game called "just cause". In just cause, You play as a hero, And your perpous is to help the citisens to get rid of their cruel general and these stuff. But the thing that made it to be somewhat like gta, Is that you can get cars, drive them, shoot the people out of their cars, Mess around with polices, Get your wanted level up as more as you annoy them. But no one said that it's a clone of GTA. Another example could be mafia seerease. Mafia is a game really similler to GTA. Where you have houses, you have cars, garage, You can go shopping, you can change your c
 lothing, You can sleep, You can go kidnapping shops, or killing people and mess around with polices. But guess what? Again that's not a clone of GTA. I haven't used Skype for a long, long time unfortuantely. The good news is I'm in the UK, so we aren't too far behind each other. I think you have o use the xbox app to use voice chat but I don't know how it works on pc.
