One of the few things that we seem to agree on is that all the
squeezebox's are good at jitter control. So my bet is that the
squeezebox will sound better no matter what cable you use.

use SB3 analog on a kit which cost me about $3000, and I am not in a
rush to do anything at the moment. I would recommend that you buy an
amp, speakers and decent cables for the money. If possible, get a
linear PSU for the SB3 as well. You can always get a DAC at a later
stage.

I use a homemade script to convert to mp3's for my Sansa player - then
I use lame with settings VBR new algorithm level 0 and quality 0. That
uses the same diskspace as 224kB~256kB but sounds better.

need. Do not feel that way, because you have a larger wire gauge than a

In that case, look to Ahead for the fullblown Nero suite, or Adobe for
the Premier software line. They allow you to download trial version
that will work for a few weeks.

As an alternative, you could build a small server based on a fanless
Via Mini-ITX board and a micro-ATX case. It should be almost as quiet
and you have space for more disks. The OS should be linux (of course ;)
). I am using CentOS with great success.

the amp. Then use the knob for anything else.
If you are using digital outputs, you can disable the volume control .

If I remember correctly, the BNC networks cables are 50ohms, not 75ohms.
And the transporter wants 75ohms, I saw in one of the other threads.
This difference is enough to degrade signal quality, so a proper 75ohms
should be better.
