is your water system pressurized?  if so you'd need a vacuum breaker and some kind of valve for filling, I've the fresh head on my boat it has a vacuum breaker and you open a normally closed valve to add water and then pump the evacuate.  So I guess the difference id the pump does not bring

I just replaced all my water lines and fresh water holding tanks last winter.  I used a $30 crimp tool and the band clamps for most of it.  I used some quick disconnect 90s at a low point in the bilge to drain everything down.  I also used distribution blocks and made every fixture a home run.

David, the pex installation with the simple pex insert fittings and band clamps are no more expensive that any other hosed connection.  It can be more expensive if you make it that way by using shark bite fittings and such.  The banded clamps are really cheap and it you're not adding valves

If your traditional boat sanitation system is stinking it usually means one of a few things, it isn't vented properly and it essentially anaerobic your hoses are so old they are emitting odor you're flushing raw water and the dead organisms caught in your supply water hose are decomposing

we use robocup holders and are very happy with them.  they are a heavy spring loaded clamp on style and can clamp on a stanchion, or the binnacle guard, or any other verticle 1-1/2 inch or less. They never fall off accidentally and we remove them after every sail.  Kind of like the instrument
