I've always experienced low RF output on SSB from my K2/100 when using my Heil
ProSet Plus headset.
While building my KAT-100 I also upgraded from 1.02 to 1.09 firmware on the
KSB2 board.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE!Now I get full power output on all bands in SSB mode.
The sheet that comes with
For those who asked about cooling. There is no top cover on the KAT-100...the
bottom of the K2 is exposed (providing shielding between the KAT-100 and the
K2) and the position of the aux fan in the DB-9 location blows air across and
up through the ventilation holes in the bottom of the K2.
I
A few people have written with questions. Here are a couple more photos.
The top cover of the KAT-100 is not used.
Here's another photo of from the side showing how the two units are mounted to
each other:

I just finished the resistance check on my new KAT-100 and all looks ok. It
was a fun project to put together. Winding those large toroids is a breeze
compared to those in the K2 or KPA-100.
I am going ahead with my K2+1 (=K3?) where the KAT-100 will be an integral part
of my K2/100.

Another wierd behavior of the 28020 birdy is that is tunes the opposite of a
normal cw signal and changes pitch in large steps. I wonder if it is a
harmonic of the HV oscillator in the KPA-100 beating with something related
to the main tuning oscillator?

I agree with Adi.
I'm sitting here with a check for $3,300 that arrived yesterday from the
sale of my Orion to K9FLY. A ham in Germany got the Orion speaker, Inrad
filter and microphone for $200.
I took $280 and bought the KAT100-1 auto-tuner for my K2/100.
The Orion has better ultimate
Is there anyone on this list who can confirm that the top cover screws of the
KAT100-1 are directly inline with the bottom cover screws of the K2?
Has anyone attempted to use 4-40 threaded rod and nuts to anchor the KAT100-1
beneath the K2? I would like to try that once I get my KAT100-1.
Please ignore...there is not a 1:1 relationship between the screws on top of
the KAT100-1 and the bottom of the K2. Drilling is required.

It seems to me that the right way to do this is a set of side panels
for the combined set of K2 and KAT100.
Some day, maybe.

I'm getting a birdy near 28.020MHz with my K2/100. Is there anything that can
be done to eliminate this or move it a few kHz?
