2007-11-25 Thread Daniil Ivanov

http://bugs.freeciv.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=39901 >

Hello!

Essentially this in Fedora bug. If you checkout the sources
from SVN and do all configuring it compiles.
The problem is in compartibility of configure script
and the Fedora autotools.
The same source code builds in Ubuntu even without autoreconf.
There is no harm to have this patch, but I believe bugs must
be fixed on the originator's side.

Thanks, Daniil.

Re: [Freeciv-Dev] suggestion

2007-07-31 Thread Daniil Ivanov
Hi, Alexander!

AI is so bad now, that I start thinking should we work on AI?
In order to make game faster you need to learn art of play
thoroughly. ;) I normally have two worklists Peace and War.
Peace contains city improvements, city must have, and
War is extended Peace, which builds Howitzer + 2*Mech. Inf.
(or other units if these are not available). It works very good
for me. Every turn I check list of the cities (I use gtk2 client).
Normally I pick up 3-5 worst cities and give them improvement
they need (it has option to add production to the beginning
of work list). City dialog is your friend, you would be amazed
how well you will perform using it. ;)
But AI... We must do something with it.

Thanks, Daniil.

Nope, І haven't. Ukrainian is one of two my native languages (the
other one is Russian).
I think Roman is from the western part of Ukraine, because of some
words he uses.
The most notable is a translation 'embassy' as English-borrowed 'ambasada'.
Officially it is translated as 'posol'stvo', which is Russian-borrowed.
You can check it from a website of any Ukrainian embassy
http://www.ukrainaemb.se/
I think Roman can correct my mistakes later if he will have such desire.
The translation 'Your diplomat failed' as 'Твій дипломат жінка' (Your
diplomat is woman)
was the best. :)

It fails :) Well, this is the exact behavior before, when you add SVG, patch
half of dozen of files and try to build, make says to you there is no rule
to produce PNG files. In absence of Inkscape make will fail trying to execute
convert_png. However, if we will keep adding PNG to SVN this rule will never
be used during 'make' or 'make dist'. I feel update-po is very
different from this
use-case.

Hi,

I have finally made those changes :) It is not going to change any
default behavior.
It just will be useful for people, who are adding their own flags at
a build stage.
The rule is applied only in case there is no PNG files or they have
an earlier modification
 date than SVG file.

Why not to use Login? Only one thing to be done is to add names for
aifill players.
Then every player will have triple: login, player name and nation.
Login is in Latin
charset so there is no problem.
Example:

In Fedora Core a package build happens without root privileges.
That is why attempt to install module during build fails. Moreover
it is wrong to modify files, which belong to other packages before
actual install. (As you produce only package without actually installing
anything). This modification is done during package installation with
%post script. Fedora packagers will need to block this behavior and
also will need dsc file for running %post during package install.

There is no need in regenerating PNGs every build. GNU/Make checks
dependencies and perform actions only if produced PNG is older than
SVG. So that you will need this only during initial build and until you
do "make clean". But okay, now I have the opinions and the best solution
is to keep the PNG in svn and just add a rule to produce lacking or
outdated PNGs.

In case you have list of cities without information on
their size and date of foundation it is possible to use
the Google to check importance of cities.
The script sends following queries to the Google:
 http://www.google.fi/search?q=%22city%20name%22%20%22state%20name%22
 (Hope, the Google won't know...).
Of course, results are not 100% relevant, but it is better than nothing.

As you already proposed it can be flag of pre-Japan occupation, which
is slightly
different from the present-day flag of South Korea.

The problem is wider than just Korean ruleset. There is two nations Congo
and Egypt, which are ancient, but there is no modern Egypt, the Republic
of the Congo or the Democratic Republic of the Congo. So it is going to
be also 3 different Congos. We must make plot out how to surpass those
contradictions.

Thanks, Daniil.

P.S. We can send a letter to George W. Bush asking to invade N. Korea
with following unification of Korea as one of solutions.

[Freeciv-Dev] (PR#36859) Script for automatic nation inclusion

2007-02-24 Thread Daniil Ivanov

http://bugs.freeciv.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=36859 >

Hi.

I made a script which perform automatically nation inclusion.
 The call is done as:
 ./add_nation ruleset_name flag_name "flag authors" [freeciv root]
I've tested it on the Belarusian nation and it appears, that
many files are not in alphabetical order, but the script was able to
 fix it.
Known shortcoming: there is no way to add nations after Zulu,
the last available nation. However, this problem is unlikely.

See attachments for the script and patch, which reflects bugs in
 alphabetical ordering.

Thanks, Daniil.

Re: [Freeciv-Dev] (PR#36597) Belarusian nation

Well, the wiki is wrong in this case. The Large Soviet Encyclopedia
marks Tadeusz Kościuszko as Polish political and military figure.
Anyway he was Polish by nationality.
I look at a list of famous Belarusians
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Belarusians
and there is no matching people. Well, there are quite
many prominent Zionists, but they became famous
 living in Israel.

Hi, Egor,

a good spot! The civil war rule actually sucks :)
It would be much better, if nation will have possibility to
split into two other nations. Not only to separate some
rebel province. There are quite many examples:
USSR, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Serbia & Montenegro.
Okay, I will fix the ruleset.

Thanks, Daniil.

Hi, Daniel,

Situation is even worse with Belarusians comparing to Kazakhs.
Masherov actually was the first secretary of Communist Party
of Belorussia during soviet times. I include him since there is
no other alternatives. Tadeusz Kościuszko was a Polish,
Belarusian and Lithuanian national hero, but he is already
 in Polish ruleset.

Thanks, Daniil.

Hi, Daniel,

Following thread about Gorbachev there is no such leaders.
Kazakhs had only one another political leader, which is still
alive and in office. This is obvious problem of nations, which
 got independence recently.

[Freeciv-Dev] (PR#36586) changes to flag producing script (convert_png)

2007-02-22 Thread Daniil Ivanov

http://bugs.freeciv.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=36586 >

Hi,

it is very hard to patch sources adding new nations or modifying
the existing ones. The reason is that PNG files are not generated
during the build and do not depend on SVG files. However,
it is very hard to make them even manually as script convert_png
search for a mask.png in a current working directory. I've made
modification, so that it search for make.png in the same directory,
where files are located, on which it is run.
I.e., now it is possible to use script as:

 ./data/flags/convert_png ./data/flags/kazakhstan.svg

Thanks, Daniil.

Hi,

Gorbachev actions (intentional or not) changed not only the Soviet
Union itself, they changed the world we live in.
However, I do not insist on inclusion of Gorbachev.

Thanks, Daniil.

Hi,

 I made a patch for soviet.nation.
Two last leaders added (Chernenko & Gorbachev).
Also Kollontai was added, soviet diplomat
and social feminist (as there are so few females).

Thanks, Daniil.
