[Audyssey] audio walk throughs

2006-09-30 Thread Nicol
HI all
I have also now subscribed my home e-mail a ddress to the gamers list. Now you
will no longer battle to read my mails with the disclaimer part at the top; I
know people battle a lot with jaws to skip the top part. I would like to say
thanks a lot for your patience in putting up with this for so long.
My question I would like to ask regarding audio game walk throughs such as
those recorded by raul: Can you also classify a game walk through in mp3 as a
potcast?

[Audyssey] problem with the bsc games mailing list

2006-10-03 Thread Nicol
HI all
I was attempting several times to join the BSC games mailing list. AS was
written in pipe's documentation, I should send a blank message to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
with the word join in the subject.
but then the mail returns undelivered saying: the mailing list is currently
disabled.
Has anyone have an idea what is wrong there?

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge decisions.

2006-10-03 Thread Nicol
I was just saying he should use a similar sound like the baral in pipe. I
didn't mean take the sound from the ppipe game. Just use a sound that sounds
like the barrol. I think some people might not be able to hear the boulder
as it is in the alf1 beta. I will never encourage a developer to steal
another developer's sounds, because that's exactly what ivan did.

[Audyssey] descend into madness

2006-10-10 Thread Nicol
Hi all
I think descend into maddness is a cool game. I think you can classify it as a
menu driven text adventure. Is it almost like chillingham? My problem that
I'm having: I can't find a way to quit the game. The only way out I found
to quit is to use the task manager and click the end task button. Is there
another way to quit the game than to use task manager?

This message is for thom randle of BSC games. Sorry for posting it here.
HI thom
today 12 october, I sent you the money for pipe2 blast chamber. I sent it to
the postal address I copied from your website. I'm experiencing difficulty
with the [EMAIL PROTECTED] address. My mail firewall returns the mail saying
it stays too long in the cue; there is a delay delivering the message so the
postmaster don't want the message to stay for so long in the cue. I sent you
alsoa notice to the bsc games mailing list. I sent 35 US dollars. Below is
the product ID as copied by the registration program and also the reference
number that was given to me by my travel agency. You must give this reference
number to your postal office to claim the money.

go up to july. Because there is a link for earlier messages and later

messages only for later messages. I wanted to read the long thread about
monkey business which was discussed on the listlong ago. How can I get to

[Audyssey] the urchin lord battle in self destruct

2006-10-17 Thread Nicol
HI all
I know self destruct is not a well known game on this list, but if anyone can
help me work out a strategy how to fight the urchin lord it will help a lot. I
think its not necesary to know the game in order to help me work out a
strategy. The principle is very simple, I just can't seem to beat him. I beat
him on easy difficulty, but I'm having a problem beating him on normal. Its a
20 by 20 battle field. Spacebar tells me my health and the urchin lord's
health. R tells me which room I'm in; actually its not a room; its just
referring to the space where I am on THE battle field as a room.20 BY 20
MEANS THERE IS A TOTAL OF 400 SPACES ON THE BATTLE FIELD SO R WILL TEL ME
FOR EXAMPLE 300. There seems to be no way to kill the urchin lord by hitting
the control key which fires my gun, separately. IN other words, if I hold down
the control key i have a better chance killing the urchin lord; that's how I
beat him on easy. It sometimes happens that I hit the urchin lord without he
hitting me but that happens very seldom. Sometimes when I fire at him I hear
him howl but then at the same time he hit me.Most of the times the moment I
fire at him, he will at the same time fire at me. Each time he fires his gun
he gets me; the urchin lord never misses. What I do at the start of the game:
I first gather all the health packs on the battle field before fighting the
urchin lord. when I'm at the top left edge of the battle field I hold down my
right arrow key and my character moves with one enormous speed till it reaches
the right edge and while moving picking up the health packs. so I'm moving in
this way through the whole battle field picking up all the health packs by
holding down each arrow key. The urchin lord cannot hit me if I move so
quickly to pick up all the health packs. Does anyone agree so far with my way
of game play? Because there are health packs scattered on the battle field.
When I'm teleported to the battle field I start with 500 hp. I first tried
fighting the urchin lord while picking up health packs, but that didn't work at
all. when I first pick up all the health packs and then fight him, he also
kills me each time on normal difficulty but the battle continues for a bit
longer than if I try fighting him before picking up all the health packs.
When I try fighting him before picking up all the health packs, its about 5
shots and I'm dead. After picking up all health packs I have about 12000 hp.
Each time the urchin lord hits me he drains me of 90 hp and he starts with 800
hp. Each time I fire at himI drain him of only 25 hp. How can I accurately
track the urchin lord and get a good amount of hits on him without him firing
me too much? ON easy when I beated him I had 700 hp left. Will anyone be
able to give me any pointers based on the info I gave here? When I hold down
the control key my gun fires; it seems as if I have unlimited ammo in the
urchinlord battle. But the moment I press an arrow key my gun stops firing. It
only helps holding down the control key as long as I'm not moving with the
arrow keys.
Since this game is working with sappi, I go to the control pannel prior
starting the game and I change the speed of sappi there Because if I don't
set sappi to speak very fast, I cannot hear my health and the urchin lord's
health in time before it hits me. When sapi is set to very fast, I can
sometimes hear my health and the urchin lord's health before it gets me.
Btw why they call him a lord is beyond me. Urchin is a pesky character taken
from a main stream game but why calling the boss a lord is really beyond me.
The word lord in daily english can either refer to a land lord, the owner of
property, or the word lord can also be another word forGod. Why they call the
bossin this game a lord is beyond me.
Give it a try if anyone can work out a strategy for me
thanks

2006-10-18 Thread Nicol
I think ask richard from audio games if I can send it to him and then he
can upload it on his site.
Or he should give me a place where I can upload it, because my e-mail
program takes extremely long to send large a ttachments. so ask richard for
a place where I can upload it to, then you can downloadit on his site.

[Audyssey] self destruct

2006-10-22 Thread Nicol
Hi all
The file was successfully sent to robin kip. I'm very excited to hear what you
all think about the game. I'm looking forward to those tips on how to beat the
urchin lord!
If anyone comes across the latest version of self destruct which is version
1.2, please send it to me! this version I sent was 1.1.6. ON the
audiogames.net website I read about version 1.2 where there is murchin robots
from whom you can buy items. and the urchins can sometimes destroy the
murchin robots. this feature is not in 1.1.6. Here you buy items from a
store. You press the letter d and then you can choose to buy items or track an
urchin.
If a copy of version 1.2 can still be found somewhere
maybe the bug where the game's sounds gets mixed up after you died in the
urchinlord battle, is fixed in 1.2. Please feel free to ask me should anyone
need some tips on the game. I have beaten the urchin lord on easy difficulty
level and I've beaten all 10 levels on normal difficulty level, I'm now busy
with the urchinlord fight on normal difficulty level.
The urchin lord battle on normal difficulty is a bit harder than on easy and
that's where I need tips, but furthermore the game is exactly the same on
normal as on easy. ON easy the urchins entering room 91 gets a fatal shock,
but not on normal. ON hard the urchins will chase you and on insane the alpha
urchin will also set mines that you need to avoid and the medic urchin will
try to kill you.
thomas and raul, please don't consider this as a cracking discussion. since the
game is no longer supported by the developer,I can surely explain to the guys
how to register the full version. You will find a file named keygen.exe in
your program files folder after installation. run this file and paste the key
into the box when you start the game. First you need to copy your product ID.
So you first have to go into the game, wait for the voice that say: please
select a difficulty level and then ensure that your screen reader is on and go
into the registration menu with alt+r and select create product ID. Then
type in your name and press the copy product ID button. Then close that
dialogue and exit the game with shift+del. Now go into the game again and make
sure the key has been copied and paste it and you will have a registered copy
of the game.If you don't create the product ID, the game will not work; you
will only have the demo. The best is to use sappi5. the game supports jaws
and window eyes, but I have found with jaws that the speech doesn't
syncronize with game play. IN other words, when you press spacebar on the
pass processor if you have the chip, if you use jaws with the game jaws will
speak while the pass processor is destroying itself. With sapi, sapi will
first give the information whether to use the bom or to find the teleporter, and
after sapi finished speaking the pass processor will destroy itself. The
same with the road runner urchin. If you are using jaws the moment you are
teleported into the bonus level, the road runner urchin will start moving
while jaws is speaking, but with sapi it will speak and then the road runner
urchin will move once sapi finished speaking. And I can't find window eyes to
work. When I have window eyes active and I press its key in the game to use
it as active voice, I get an error that window eyes is not installed.
Happy self destroying, lol

[Audyssey] scary sound in monopoly

2006-10-22 Thread Nicol
Hi all
When I was playing jim's monopoly I was playing for a while with the
background music on when the tokens move. That sound really sounds spooky to
me. phil, are you going to use a similar sound in sarah ?That sound scared me
so, I turned it off. Shortly after I heard that sound, when somebody in the
house was passing my room I got a fright as if a ghost was near me. That sound
is really scary.
Jim please don't feel I'm criticizing you. Monopoly is a great game. I just
intend to ask phil please not to add a similar sound in sarah. That would
really cause me to be scared the whole night as I lie in bed. That sound is
still all right in the monopoly game, but if you use that sound in sarah, its
really scary.

[Audyssey] bringing back the good old memories of tv games

2006-11-07 Thread Nicol
for those of you who played TV games I want to share with you my
memories. There was a little game calledmilk and nuts. But none of my
sighted friends seem to figure it out. Its very tricky. Balloon fight is
such a nice game I really hope to see in the future of the accessible
gaming industry. I seem to get the hang of it although I didn't had a
clue what's going on because I heard some sounds in the game where I went
over to the next level but I don't really know how the game works. I can
remember 2 karate games. And, who, of, you, can, remember, bomber, man!!!
wow! That was a cool game. you walk up and down and also sideways and
activate bombs to kill your enemies but if you plant a bomb and you
don't move away from it in another direction you got killed by it. Who
can remember circus Charlie? Its my favorite game. I already explained to
lighttechinteractive how the game work. They said they will have a look
at my idea in the near future. What is that game called with
the clouds and the snails? Who can remember popai? road fighter was
such a nice car game. It wasn't actually a racing game. You traveled with
your car on the road. you have to get to the petrol pumps in time, they
are planted alongside the road and you have to turn off to get to them, you
have to drive past huge trucks, other cars and also super man flying by.
I have so many memories of the tv games I played with my sighted friends.
There's so many of them.I really hope we would be able toplay some
of them in the future of the accessible gaming industry.
There's a few others I would like to share with you but I remember them very
vaguely. I can only remember their music. I would be able to play the
tune on my organ but otherwise I can't tell you how the games works. I can
always get technical and give you the beginning notes of the tunes but
that's beyond the scope of this list.

[Audyssey] randomising

2006-11-11 Thread Nicol
HI all
I would very much like to know how its possible for the computer to
randomise. Take a game like pipe2. How did they program the game so that
the computer randomly choose an item. Randomising sounds to me like a
supernatural thing. I know that programmers puts if statements into their
code:if this happens do this. but how do they write a program to
randomise; to randomly pick an item from others? I think this is how dice
games such as jims' games and GMA dice works. The moment you press a key to
throw the dice the computer first plays a sound of a dice thrown and then
it randomly decides on a number within a range depending on the dice you
are using, because there could impossibly not be a physical dice in the cpu.
How do a programmer tell the computer to randomise? Is it only one
statement in his code? Does the programmer for instance put a line in his
code that tells the computer: randomise?
Is randomising a function built into the computer or do the programmer have
to instruct the computer on how to randomise? because as far as I know, a
program is a set of instructions which tasks the computer should perform. I
can't play pipe2 on my computer if I don't have the program because the
computer doesn't know how to present pipes to fit and side scrollers
without instructions. Because randomising is, as far as i know, mostly
used in games, I thought it would be appropriate to ask it here.
I'm just curious how it happens that the computer gets its ability to
randomise within a game.

[Audyssey] self destruct

2006-11-11 Thread Nicol
Hi all
Just to let you know that I beated selfdestruct on normal Difficulty. For
those who want to try out The urchin lord battle without my spoiler the most
important keystrokes in the urchin lord battle which was never given in
the manual: to check your health and the urchin lord's health press
spacebar. to check your room and the sector where the urchinlord is press
r. Before fighting the urchin lordyou must set THE SPEECH to very fast if
you're using sapi. Your speech needs to be very fast because if your speech
is not very fast, you won't have time to hear your health before the urchin
lord gets you because he moves very fast on the battle field.
If you're using sapi go into start, settings, control pannel and speech if
you're using windows xp. I'm not sure how to change sappi's voice in 98; 98
doesn't have the speech settings in its control pannel and you can't set
sapi's voice within the game. IN that speech dialogue in xp you can SET
SAPI'S SPEED, SELECT WHICH VOICE YOU WANT TO USE AND PREVIEW THE VOICE TO
MAKE SURE ITS THE VOICE YOU WANT. Here's how I killed the urchin lord.
s
p
o
i
l
e
r
s
p
a
c
e

its actually very easy. First when you hear sapi says: you must now fight
the urchin lord, you must gather all the health packs on the battle field.
You are on the top left corner of the battle field which is a grid of 20 x
20 cells. So hold down your right arrow key until you hear the wall bumping
sound, press down arrow once and hold down the left arrow key until you hear
the wall sound. Do this until you reached the bottom right corner of the
battle field. Now move back to the top left corner. Now hold down your
control key. It seems as if you have unlimited ammo in the urchin lord
battle because I held down my control key for very long and my ammo wasn't
running out. So you stay at the top left corner and hold down your control
key. The urchin lord will drain you of a lot of health points but you will
manage to kill it by just holding down your control key and not moving away
from the top left corner. The urchin lord tries to dodge your hits but will
eventually loose all its health points, after collecting all the health
packs you have about 12000 hp and the urchin lord have 800 hp.
When you killed the urchin lord, you will hear music and you will hear how
your character automatically walk up to the escape craft and how the escape
craft first departs like a car and then it flies away like a CHOPPER.
Now I'm ready to play the game on hard difficulty. I will let you all know
how it goes.
When I wanted to go to the developer's website by selecting self destruct
on the web in the programs menu I got a page not found error. But when I
said yes when the game asks me if I want to submit my score it asked me to
type my name and press enter. When I did that, it said: your score should be
submitted; press enter to exit.

[Audyssey] self destruct

2006-11-12 Thread Nicol
I can't believe it! I beat self destruct on hard difficulty. It seems as
if the urchin lord battle is the easiest part of the whole game so far. My
spoiler will work exactly the same way on hard. Now its only insane that's
there to beat. There i have to watch out for mines in the grid.
After all self destruct isn't that bad. there's only one bug in the game
and that's when the sounds get mixed up if you die in the urchin lord
battle. then you hear the urchin lord battle music while you are back in
the grid and you hear the step sound as you walk on the battle field while
you are actually back in the grid after losing a life and if you then
pause the game it terminates after displaying a message. But otherwise I
think its a cool game.

[Audyssey] selfd destruct

2006-11-14 Thread Nicol
Hi dark
I read you were also looking for self destruct. I have sent the self
destruct setup file to robin kip. Sorry, I don't know where he has uploaded
it to. Please contact him!
Hi all
First, can anyone tell me: why is the game called self destruct? Doesn't
self destruct obviously means suicide? self destruct, you destroy
yourself. Even if I set urchin mines in the grid to kill agents and I walk
into one of the rooms I set a mine, the mine doesn't kill me but it kills
an urchin walking into that same room. Its very strange why the game is
called self destruct. Obviously destruct only has one meaning: destroying,
isn't it?
Now, I want to ask a very strange question. I know the most of you find self
destruct unfair because you don't like it that your gold is set to 0 at the
beginning of the next level. It doesn't bother me. I enjoy the game a lot.
But I would like you guys to take a wild guess anyway on this question. And
if the wild guess you take happens in the game then its just fun that you
pick the right answer. Just for fun: tell me do you think the mines that
the alpha urchin set in the grid, if I press any of my shift+arrow keys to
look in the grid will I hear that a mine is set in that cell? Because the
documentation said that in insane difficulty level the alpha urchin will
set mines that will kill you if you step into the room the mine is in.
I would like you guys to take a wild guess. I'm not saying you should play
self destruct in insane difficulty to tell me. If you don't like self
destruct and you guys prefer not to play the game, its fine. But those of
you who want to take a wild guess, tell me: will my look function inform me
of a set mine? If it does, I can then move to another cell in the grid to
prevent the mine. Because if I press any of my arrow keys plus shift, I can
look in all 4 directions and sapi tells me what is in that cell in that
direction: move pill, health, bullets, etc.
So just take a wild guess if you like: will the look function inform me of
the set mine or not? If not, oh dear, then I just have to hold my breath and
hope I don't step into a mine. If I came across mines I will let you all
know if your wild guess was correct.
The medic urchin, ah he is so cute. he sounds like a little boy's voice. I
manage to kill them. The secret is: tapping both control keys very fast. If
sapi says: no energy I quickly press d to go into my control pannel and then
I buy bullets, I Press escape twice and immediately I start firing at the
urchin, and I do this until the medic urchin dies. IN this way I also
manage to kill the alpha urchin. I managed so far in insane difficulty up to
level 5. I have been in levels in insane where the alpha urchin was active
but it didn't said mines so far. I believe from say level 7 the alpha
urchin might set mines to try kill me. I wonder if I quickly go to the
bottom of the grid and pick up the bag of mines at the start of the level,
if the alpha urchin will still be able to set mines. I wonder if he has his
own mines or does he use those lying in the grid. A bag of inactive mines
always lies at the bottom of the grid in each level.O yes here's another
spoiler.
s
p
o
i
l
e
r
s
p
a
c
e
This happened to me after I got the road runner urchin's cannon. I noticed
that if I'm in the room the teleporter is in and I press my cannon to fire
at an urchin also in that room, I destroy the teleporter. Well I came into
the teleporter room the first time, I heard an urchin firing at me, I
pressed control to fire my cannon and I heard a strange sound. I Moved one
room to my righbt and again one room to my left and I still heard the
teleporter's sound and the urchinw as stil there so I fired at him and I
heard that strange sound again and I heard a blasting sound and the
teleporter was gone so there was no way out so I had to walk in the grid
until my moves reaches 0 and then killed by the bomb because the pass
processor told me that the pass chip is corrupt so I couldn't deactivate the
bomb and complete the level. I think if I can remember correctly, the
teleporter will not be destroyed by the gun. I think I can
rememberkilling an urchin with my gun in the teleporter room. But it was
long ago that I encountered an urchin in the teleporter room while I used
my gun, but now I know for sure that if I fire with my cannon in the
teleporter room it will destroy the teleporter, so you may want to watch out
for that.
Endof spoiler
this is another keystroke not in the manual. if you got a cannon and you
want to use it to fire at urchins press tab. sapi or jaws will say: using
cannon. The bad side is that you can't reverse back to your gun. The manual
said that if you kill urchins with a cannon, you don't get gold as when
you kill them with your gun. So this is a tip I can give you: if you want
to fire at urchins using your cannon, make sure that you have enough gold to
g

[Audyssey] pipe2

2006-11-25 Thread Nicol
Hi all
I listened to raul playing pipe2 on easy difficulty. I got the mp3 file
on asmodean. He use the strategy of dying in a side scroller level on
purpose. I would just like to know because raul died on all the side
scroller levels in the game. Does it make a difference if you die on
purpose on each side scroller level in the game or if you wait for the last
side scroller in the game. Say for instance level 14 is a side scroller. I
played it a few times over to get a high score. I have tried what raul did:
to die on all the levels which are side scrollers but I have found that
doing that, my time gets less and then if I loose a life in an electricity
pipe level I sometimes don't have enough time to win the game.
Have anyone tried raul's strategy? Do you get more points if you die on
each side scroller level than if you die a few times on the last side
scroller level?

Raul, could you please explain this to me in further details? I know this
list is to discuss tricks to beat a game but I would like to know: if the
story line says the experiment went wrong, what exactly is meant by this.
Here is a complex full of people in it. They are performing normal office
duties. Now in the first place where does dogs and rats and blobs and turid
guns and tds comes from? The cyburgs is half human, half robot. But where
does these other creatures comes from if the experiment went wrong in a
normal office complex?
Which experiment was it. Was it a scientific/chemical experiment where they
experimented with gassess and scientific tools such as proof tubes and
cyhlinders?
Hay guys, if you would tell someone who nevewr playhed sod, how the mutant
human sounds like: can you write characters in a post?
Would it be something like
Heeeuh
Huuhh
Ihh
Aaaah
Uh
I would like an explanation of which experiment went wrong.
Charles rivard wanted to add another monster: mutant charlie.

Hello Nicol. Good message. I do not know where David got the sound for
the mutant human. However, remember the reason for the mutants in SOD
was because of the experiment going wrong.

I don't know if you know this, but I made an audio walkthrough for SOD
when version 1.2 came out. Feel free to grab it if you like from

Take care.

The description of Torrent actually reminded me quite a lot of Galaxians,
perhaps even more than asteroids, sinse it seemed to feature dodging of
enemies rather than just shooting them down, a rap around scrolling effect,
and accelleration and deceleration.

the right upp on surrealist horizons also appeared to hint that alien ships
firing at you would be more common than in the original asteroids game as
well.

I don't know if thom's specific asteroids remake will be closer to the
original, with the player in the exact center of the playing field, having
to protect him/herself in 360 degrees, and the strange teleporting movement
system that always seems to get me killed when I try a varient of the
Original Asteroids.

Even though the audio remakes of classic atari 80's space shooters there
have been seem to all be remakes of space invaders, there do seem to have
been many more games of a similar style produced back then all with
different features. for example there was rescuing hostages and left/right
scrolling in defender, bouncing bullits back in deflecter, and having to
jump pits in Moon patrol.

Imho seeing audio remakes move away from standard space invaders and explore
some of these similar in style, yet different in execution games is a
welcome change, and Imho multiple game developers' approaches to this style
would be a good thing.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] the bio grenades in sod

2006-12-02 Thread nicol
HI friends
I'm still waiting for my dad to return to me with the correct credit card
number because the game is asking for a 16-digit number and the one he gave
me is 17 digits.
Anyway I'm so long practicing throwing a grenade in the demo version. Here
is something which is totally unclear to me. Please! I don't want any
spoilers! If someone can just explain this to me a bit clearer.
The manual says if you wait 1 second before pressing space the second time
you throw the grenade it will travel 45 feet before landing. When the game
started I decided to practice throwing a grenade without waiting for a
monster to be present. So I was standing at the start of the maze. My back
was facing the wall. A long passage stretched before me, definitely longer
than 45 feet. I pressed, g, I pressed space, I waited one second and I
pressed space again and I was killed.
How is this possible? I wasn't 45 feet away from a wall. Is it possible that
if a grenade hits a door I will also be killed?
Because its possible that the first door in the maze is 45 feet away from
the starting point. I tried again, this time also standing with my back
against THE WALL AT THE STARTING POSITION OF THE MAZE, I waited 2 seconds
before I pressed spacebar a second time and this time the grenade didn't
kill me.
I noticed that, whether the grenade kills me or not, it makes a clicking
sound. If I press spaced a second time it will make the sound of a blast
mine but then it makes a clicking sound. Does this clicking sound mean the
grenade is landing on the floor, on a monster or against a wall?
The manual didn't said that if the grenade hits a door it will kill me. It
only said if it hits a wall it kill me so that's why I can't understand if
I'm at the starting position of the maze and I press space again after 1
second the grenade kills me.
I managed to kill a scientist though.
Do you think its possible to throw a grenade at a monster within a room? The
most rooms are about 30 by 40 feet. There is some rooms which are 50 by 30
feet or 50 by 70 feet.
Thanks

Charles, please don't get me wrong. its not my intention to play
modewrator, but this kind of reply I find hurtfull. You are giving the
impression that gamers is not posting out of curiosity, but out of

Sky is definitely not impatient, he is just curious.
He wants to know more about the game. He don't mind waiting for the finish.
Its for the devs to decide whether info about the game should be disclosed

 Hi Niall,
I had to remove the dungeon level from the demo because I added more
 rooms
to the ground floor and dungeon and it made the demo level too large.
In testing it out it was like walking through molasses.
So you get the ground floor and basement free.
When I added the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor commonrooms, I realized I had
 left
 out the Slytherin.
On the ground floor I added the Staff room which was just a door in the
 earlier version.
 Smiles,
 Phil

Re: [Audyssey] Unlocking self-destruct

2006-12-04 Thread nicol
The part walking through a door where a wall once was isn't a bug. It's a
feature in the game. In level 10 whether you manage to complete the upper
floor with the holes in it or you try to teleport you have to find room 70
and then walk to your right. I find holding down the right arrow while you
are in room 70 will move your character quickly. Because you have a minute
to find the door but if you hold down your right arrow key you will manage
to walk to the door in a few seconds. If you get to room 100 on the upper
floor in level 10 you have to press a button in room1 before finding room70.

basically, something to do with the lord urchin battle, something about the
coordination, couldn't get rid of the other room to make the battlefield or
somethin' similar. something about you could just walk through back to the
room of level 10, through what's meant to be a wall.

I enjoy christmass woop ass. This is something I have noticed which is not
written in the manual. If you press your left right or up arrow you will hit
old man Stanley either, left right or middle. The manual doesn't sayh this,
the manual only sayh that you hit old man stanly with either left or right
shift or space.
The arrows work better for me.
The down arrow does nothing.

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Game Maker - Sneak Peek

2006-12-06 Thread nicol
Sorry all my caps lock was accidentally on in part of the message. Its not
my intention to scream at all!
Guys, I really really hope the audio game maker is going to be the start of
a huge gaming community.
You know what? Sighted people, especially sighted children daily exchange
CARTRIDGES OF GAMES AMONGST EACH OTHERS. And on each cartridge there is
about 60 games, ranging from side scrollers, to racing games, to shooter
games. I
want to tell you the account of a little honest boy. He was always very
honest.
This boy fared badly in school, so his mom forbids him to play tv games
during the week. He's only allowed tv games during weekends.
This is to help him spend more time on home work. This one afternoon his mom
was at work and his friend brought him another cartridge full of games to
try out. He phoned his mom and asked if he can please try out this new
games.
He said: mom I know you don't want me to play games during the week but I'm
very curious, so his mom allowed him an hour justs because he is so honest.
An hour went by and he phoned his mom again and said: mom an hour has
passed, can I please have some more time to try out these games?
He could just as well played games. My mom is at work, how will she know
that I play games.
But he was honest, he phoned his mom and asked permission.

I don't intend to go off topic.
That's just something kids can learn from.
But really guys! It would be great if the blind gaming community can grow
as large as the sighted gaming community.
|Just imagine if we can have more side scrollers.
I wish someone could make an accessible version of balloon fight.

Hmmm, I see.

I had been thinking of the building blocks like "world" and "item" and
"Player" to refer to basically the same thing they would mean in a game,
hence my questions, but I see clearly their meaning is a lot more flexable,
and i'm already having thoughts as to how to create specific game events.

I do have several more questions, but Perhaps to cut down the number of
irritating people like me with long lists of questions, it might help if
there was a tutorial or written examples of how to create various game
effects?

the user's manual is a great reference but while I can very much see how
various objects sgo together, others are less clear to me.

I know there will be the example games, but it would very much help if there
was also a brief description of how each example game was created.

sorry for the insistance and the long and annoying posts of questions.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Game Maker - Sneak Peek

2006-12-06 Thread nicol
hi
You get a wide variety of games. Each game needs its own sounds. And this is
where the problem lies: if audio game maker is for free, you need to spend a
lot of money because you need sounds for the games you create so you need to
buy sound libraries.
Sound libraries do cost money!
Or does the developers of audio game maker supply people with sound
libraries included in the package?

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Audio Game Maker - Sneak Peek

Hi David,

I'll try to answer that question the best I can:

Every game that is created with Audio Game Maker consists of multiple files:
a standard Audio Game Player.exe, some standard library files, an XML file
that contains all the data of the game, and four folders that contain all
the sound files that are used in the game. To distribute a game, you simply
share these files with someone else (simply .zip them up and send 'm). That
person does not need to have Audio Game Maker, as all games are stand-alone.
However, when someone receives a game from somebody else and puts the files
in the Audio Game Maker folder, that person is able to open the .XML game
file using Audio Game Maker. This means that when you create a game with
Audio Game Maker and distribute it (either for free, money, goats, Linden
dollars or MySpace kudos) others can access your game file later on, edit
it, change the soundfiles, and distribute it themselves for even more goats
or red paperclips.

Therefore I hope you see that once you sell one game and it's out on the
Net, others can easily modify it. I personally don't have anything against
you selling a game you made with Audio Game Maker (you have every right to
ask for compensation for your hard work), but with how Audio Game Maker
works, you probably won't make that much money. Although, I might add, I
hereby dare the community to come up with your own economic system if you
want ;) Like a donation system, or a "ransom marketing" system (you create a
game but not yet release it, advertise it, and when you receives enough
money in donations, you release the game for free), etc. etc.. I dare you
all, folks ... (smile) ...

The goals of the Audio Game Maker project are:

1) to increase the amount of audio games
2) give visually impaired wanna-be game designers a chance to develop their
own audio games with a (simple) "what you hear is what you get"- kind of
tool (at least something simpler than C++)

I am personally very interested in point 1, since "more games" means "more
examples added to the discourse" means "more knowledge on audio game design"
and "more examples of accessible game design for the general game industry".

For us there is no financial gain in this whole project. We decided for a
"non-protected" format for the games for several reasons. One was that it is
quite hard (given the short amount of time in which Audio Game Maker is
conceived) to create a tool with which one can create games that are
copy-protected/piracy safe. The other was that we would like to create a
community of people all developing audio games, sharing their ideas and
games with each other, teaming up to build larger games together. We were
thinking along the lines of this: let's say that there are a few people out
there who want to build a Pong-type of game. With Audio Game Maker, once
someone has finished a Pong game, others can use that game to create their
own version, convert it into an Arkenoid type of game, etc.

Many of you are currently into modding existing audio games. Think of this
as not only being able to change each others sound files, but also take a
game and make it your own. This is something that has been going on with
Flash/Shockwave game development for many years already.

Is this enough of an answer?

Greets and thanks for your interest!

The other aspect of creating games of course is doing voice overs.
To create voice overs you need voice recording software!
Sayh for instance you need a voice that speaks the contents of a menu?
Does the audio game maker allow you to make a game where the player choose
options from a menu?
does the audio game maker allow you to have a speaker test function which
the player can use to ensure his speakers are correct?

[Audyssey] self destruct

2007-01-10 Thread nicol
Hi all
I want to give you some hints about self-destruct and some problems I came
aCROSS.
Self-destruct, on all 4 difficulties: easy, normal, hard and insane is all
right from levels 1 to 9. Level 10 is a real pain on all 4 levels especially
on insane. On insane you begin each level with 50 health points so the
moment you kill the first urchin immediately buy some health as well as some
bullets. Don't try moving to rooms trying to find stuff such as the key to
room0, your moves is only 40. Rather stay in that room where you were
teleported to when you entered level10 and fight the urchins from there. I
find that the urchins firing make it impossible for me to hear my gold,
health and bullets remaining. They fire to quickly so by the time I want to
hear my health by pressing h and trying to listen to sappi I'm already
killed. So I find it better to kill only a few urchins with my gun and buy
mines to kill the rest of them. I find it better to buy a few mines than to
go to the bottom of the grid to get the bag of mines, because the urchins
moves to fast, I can't move around in the grid and fire at the same time. So
by setting mines I managed to kill the urchins coming at me. My only hope
then is to either kill the alpha urchin or try to fire at the type of shy
urchin, which makes a short squeak and then teleport if he sees me. But if
you manage to fire At him before he can teleport he changes to the type of
urchin that laughs and then you can kill him and get more gold. Or if you
are lucky you can find the pass chip And Processor but that happens very
seldom.
The urchins on level 10 also makes it impossible sometimes to go into the
store. Because while I'm fighting an urchin my energy gets depleted before
he is dead, then I have to quickly buy some more health and energy. By the
time I pressed d to go into the mini computer |I'm already killed before I
can go into the store.
So on the battle field I managed to kill the urchin lord by standing in the
middle of the battle field and then holding down my control key because it
seems as if I have unlimited ammo in the urchin lord battle. On easy, normal
and hard it works to stand at the top left corner and holding down control
but when you try that on insane the urchin lord will dodge your attacks, you
will only manage to drain him half of his health and he will kill you but if
you stand in the middle of the battle field you will successfully kill him
i.e you must stand on space 10 10 because the battle field is 20 by 20
large. Press r to hear where on the battle field you are.
The manual says that in insane the alpha urchin will set mines that will
kill me but I never stepped into any mines because when the alpha urchin
laughs at me and I don't have enough bullets to fire at him I move 2 rooms
away in another direction. If it is true what the manual says that he sets
mines in insane, I would have stepped into a mine.
On the upper floor where you must avoid holes in the floor I find that sappi
doesn't always warn me of a hole. Especially in room1 on the upper floor. It
happens many times to me that I go right and fall down a hole, but I heard
no warning that there is a hole in that direction so I'm confused which is
the safest way to navigate from room1 because sometimes if I press down
arrow while on top of room1 I also fall down a hole without any warning.

[Audyssey] sod

2007-01-10 Thread nicol
guys, first of all, I enjoy sod a lot. My dad bought it for my birthday. I'm
now busy figuring out level9. To tell you the truth I have to start the
game all over again from area1 because I have made a mistake at the coffee
machine. I tried Raul's strategy by filling my body with coffee and then
taking all my med kids but I ended up with 37 percent health which dropped
to 12 percent when I started level9 and so I can't last long in the battle
so I have to play the game all over again so that I can fill myself with not
too much coffee and so that my health is 100 percent after taking med kids.
I made a silly mistake in area2. I wasn't standing in front of the locked
door so I thought I didn't had the right security chip because when I wanted
to insert the chip , it didn't unlock the door at first. so I walked
through that whole area twice to find the security chip after which I found
out that I wasn't standing right in front of the door; when I positioned
myself right in front of the door, the security chip worked.
I'm just very unhappy about my mom's standpoint about sod. I visit her once
a month and sometimes I have to keep myself busy, so she allows me to play
games on her computer. So I was very excited and I requested a second key
from david. I was on my way to visit my dad and brother and sister. My mom
took me to the airport. So I visited her for a while before getting on the
plane to visit my family. So by the time I visited her I received my unlock
code for this computer, so I requested a second key from david to play on
my mom's computer, because I was already on my way to my mom so there
wasn't time to play it on my computer, so I was burning of curiosity. So
you can imagine how excited I was about sod. she saw that I was playing sod
just by reading the title bar so she forced me to tell the truth about the
game.
I could have lied to her but its possible that she would ask me to have a
listen how the game sounds like.
So when she heard that I kill creatures, she forbid me to play it on her
computer and she tried a lot to discourage me to play it on my computer as
well, but luckily she can't decide for me as I'm a grown up man. My mom
reasons that sod teaches me violence in real life and it softens me
gradually for violence; that its ok to kill people in real life.and that
violence is a medium for demons and that I will bring demons into her house
if I play sod on her computer.
I was quite upset about that. I would just like to know if you guys agree if
sod is a violent game. I don't think so, I tried to explain to my mom that
I'm killing creatures caused by an ill faded experiment, I'm not killing
people but she just forbids me and if she catches me playing sod on her
computer again, she will forbid me to use her computer at all.
She was also shocked when she heard that I'm killing creatures with mines.
Shockingly she said:| my child you don't know what mines really do to
people, I watch tv and I can see how mines destroy people into pieces and
here you Are playhing a game killing creatures with mines.
She forced me to totally remove the game from her computer.
She belongs to the Jehovah witnesses religion that's why she feel so strong
about it.
So when she goes to her bible study, which lasts at least for an hour, I
take a chance and play it on her computer. I noticed that my product key
still remains on her computer although | I uninstall the game and install it
again because I have requested 2 keys from david greenwood so after an hour
I uninstall it so she never knew I was playing sod.
She really upset me with her standpoint. Luckily I still have self-destruct,
which I can play. Luckily she will never know that self-destruct is a firing
game because I'm playing with headphones. With sod with my headphones on she
might hear far off I'm firing but not with self-destruct except if I fire
with a cannon and I don't use the cannon really because with the cannon in
self destruct you can't get any gold as with your gun.

[Audyssey] sarah

2007-01-10 Thread nicol
Hi folks
I'm confused; really confused. I want to try out Sarah; it sounds as if
it's a nice game but I want to make certain of a few things. My
sister-in-law told me that a friend of her had a traumatic case with her
little girl watching Harry potter movies. She watched them over and over
again. My sister-in-law told me that the names of Harry's friends are really
the names of demons. This girl was terrorized by demons when she watched the
movies. She couldn't sleep at night. When psychologists tried to find out
what was keeping her awake they discovered that it's the movies. Now I want
to know: how serious does Sarah go into the Harry potter story? Did Phil put
the real sounds of demons into his game? I'm very afraid of demons; I heard
many people say that the sounds of demons are very very scary.
I would just like to know if the game contains any real demon sounds;
specifically demon sounds. What I mean with this is: did phil made contact
with demons and then they made sounds over his microphone and then he
recorded it? In other words, did phil get in contact with demons so that the
demons themselves do the sound effects for sarah? Because my sister-in-law
explicitly warned me against any Harry potter, she said I would get in touch
with demons if I play or listen to any Harry potter.
But I need to make the decision myself. She says that the movies by which
the child was terrorized at night was more specifically harry2. The second
part of Harry's story but she warned me against all harry potter.

[Audyssey] sod

2007-01-10 Thread nicol
Ok all, now on a lighter note.
I tried throwing a grenade at a boss but it seems as if they can't be killed
by a grenade. I also tried killing them with a bio disrupter mine but the
boss walked through the mine without being injured at all.
Can you kill a boss with a granade or a mine?
I know for sure that you can't kill a td with a mine, that has been proved
by many gamers.
But I'm enjoying level9. I think it's the best level of the game because it
contains the most monsters.
I find that a grenade works the best in area2. I flush the toilet, then
run out of the room, then close the door, then press g for grenade, open
the door, press space, wait 2 seconds, press space, and slam the door. The
grenade will bounce against the wall and will then obviously kill the blob
and so it did.
Its much effective. That is the only place so far where I managed to use a
grenade with success.
The td on the boss level is not a problem. Because if a td teleports me
outside the boss room, I can just use my transport pad to teleport me back
into the boss room.
I have noticed that all 3 numbers on the transport pad will teleport me
inside the boss room.
Can anyone tell me how the transport pad teleports me?
I mean does it randomly pick 3 locations in the maze and then teleport me
to it?
I thought of an idea david might consider for a future release.
What if you rather have the opportunity to put in the x and y coordinates
of where you want to be transported to.
Say for instance I meet a td and I want to teleport myself to a big room and
I know the coordinates of that room because I visited there before.
Now it would be nice if I can pick my transport pad and then type in the x
and y coordinates.

2007-01-11 Thread nicol
guys I just would like to make sure of something.
Josh sent me a private e-mail yesterday that no one should take the movies
to heart. Its fake and if anyone wants to be a wizard or a witch its bad.
He said that when your child is about 12 years you should sit with him while
watching the movies and explain to him that its all fake and that he should
not try to practice wizardry. Don't get me wrong guys , I'm a humerous
person who can take a joke. But I want to make sure: did phil made a joke
when he said the crystal ball tells him when the bug will be fixed? I know
nothing about programming but logic tells me a bug is a mistake you as the
programmer makes. Gigo, garbage in garbage out.
When I was at college many students were always inclined to give the
computer the fault if something is wrong, but then the teacher repeatedly
corrected him that the computer will only output a mistake if you input a
mistake.
So I don't think you can foretell when a bug will be fixed by looking at a
crystal ball. You can only fix a bug by correcting the mistake you made; by
debugging, lol.
That's just my 2 sense but if phil made a joke I'll take it as one.
But just in case someone took phil to heart, I just want to say that bugs
can only be fixed by correcting the mistakes the programmer made.

Re: [Audyssey] sarah

2007-01-11 Thread nicol
Thanks, thom, that was a clear explanation.
Its ridiculous that I was told by my family who are also deep Christians,
that harry's friends have the names of demons.
But like josh says their names isn't demon; its real people. Only some of
the creatures they face is demonlike.
That's true; it remains fiction and it can't change my believe as Christian.
So phil, what sound did you use for the dementors? I'm not asking to give
the whole game away. I just would like to make double sure that
absolutely no sound in the game is made by a real demon.

Hi Nicol,
I think before we discuss a subject like say Harry Potter you always
need to consider the source of the info. For example I know of people
who are of the Christian far right who would demonise anything dealing
with magic, or special powers, etc as they have a real objection to that
sort of thing. I know of such folks who call things like Star Wars
demonic, and say people who watch it are demon worshipers. I watch it,
but am I a demon worshiper? I don't believe I am just because I am
interrested in the films and movies. Same kind of folks demonise Harry
Potter, and say it is demonic, and if you watch it you will be a demon
worshiper, etc... So consider who you are talking to.
Now, in the Harry Potter relm there are all kinds of evil creatures whom
Harry Potter and his friends have to face. They have demonlike creatures
called the Dementors who are probably the closest to demons you get.
There was a professor named Loopin who turned out to be a warewolf.
Normally, warewolfs are evil, but Loopin wasn't evil. You find things
like that all over the Harry Potter books. I do not however find it
interfears with my own Christian beliefs as I don't worship demons,
believe there are dementors, warewolfs, goblins, etc and I don't even
believe in magic. I recognise the movies and books as a work of fiction
and that is where it remains in my mind.
From the demo I played of Sarah way back when many of the creatures in
Harry Potter show up such as ghosts, basilisks, dementors, were in the
game. Did they bother me? They did not bother me. However, it might
frighten you. I am not you, and I can't judge that. Only you can judge that.

I'll give it some figuring out where level 8's message is located if it has
a message. But I don't want to look for a message in level 8 if there is
none. So you guyhs don't need to give me a spoiler where level 8's
message is. I like to explore things, but just tell me is there a message in
level 8? I tried throwing several grenades at the td in the boss room but
it seems as if it doesn't do them any harm. I wish I could kill the td. Can
you kill the td with a grenade? I know that the grenades and mines doesn't
kill the bosses, it only hurts them.
While I'm busy fighting a boss the td sometimes teleports me far away from
the bosses and then I have to look for them again.

No, The grenade works perfectly. Rather save your timed mine for level5 when

A timed mine would do that, but a bio grnade only destroys living things or

Re: [Audyssey] sod

2007-01-11 Thread nicol
HI sorren
Let me explain this a bit. Apologies to thom and raul but this topic
fascinates the members a lot. The Jehovah witnesses believe that you can
bring demons into your house by a medium. when I was still living in my
mom's home and I was busy breaking with the Jehovah witnesses, before I
moved to my dad, they tried every thing to stop me.
They even confiscated all music on my computer.
I downloaded midi files from the web of ACDC music and I play these midi
files on my yamaha keyboard which have a stiffy drive. For those who don't
know midi files, its a format of music which is only instrumental, no
vocals. They believe that even Elton john's music is demonic. So they
reasoned that it's a medium for demons. They don't believe that the demons
crawls out of that cd or computer etc. they believe that the demons can
sense when there is something which will attract them.
The Jehovah witnesses sees demons as flies. When you have food a flie is
attracted by it.
The same with those music or sod. My mom believes as I'm playing sod the
demons is attracted like flies are attracted by food. She believes the
'demons is flying around in the air, invisible so that no one can see them.
and the moment I play sod or listen to Elton john or ACDC MUSIC according
to her they will come closer to ME; they will smell sod or the music and
they will invade MY HOME AND START doing supernatural things like moving
furniture .
That's how they believe in demons.
And my mom believes that the more I play sod the more I will be softened and
learned its ok to kill someone if I don't like him, or I don't like
working or staying together with him, etc.

Hi Nicol.

It doesn't makes sence to me. Shades of Doom is just a game. How can a game
bring deamons to your mothers house? If there really was deamons in this
world, these can't come out from a computer. Graphics and sounds can't bring
evil things to a house. It's just a computer.

I wouldn't say Shades of Doom is a violent game. You are not killing people
in this game. It's monsters. It's not realistic because one boddy normaly
will be killed by 2 or 3 shots. Not 8 or 10.

I don't understand how people can be scared by Harry Potter moovies. If you
want to see a scary moovie, I recommend you Silent Hill. Well, I don't think
your mother think that's okay!

People is different and I respect that! But some people, I don't understand.

Re: [Audyssey] sod

2007-01-11 Thread nicol
Thanks, phil. It makes sense.
I wish there was a key in the game where you could hear your health and your
hit points.
I also wish that you could get information about the monster's hit points
you are fighting. When you are fighting the urchin lord in self destruct,
you can check your health and the urchin lord's health.
I wish the same could happen with sod.
Something else I don't understand about the manual. It says that a med kit
will always increase my health with 50 percent. This is not only when using
coffee, it applies to med kids from the start of the game.
But I noticed that my health is 39 and when I use a med kit my health only
goes to 42.
Why?

Hi nicol,
The coffee machine strategy is correct.
But coffee will not make you invulnerable to damage.
Here is the example of how coffee works:
Your percentage health is 75 percent but what you do not know is that your
maximum hit points is 100
So you have 75 hit points.
You drink a coffee and your maximum hit points go up to 150.
But your hit points are still 75 so when you check your health it looks like
it is reduced to 50 percent.
Now if you take a med kit and it increases your health by 100 points.
But the med kit will only increase your health to your maximum hit points.
So before you drank the coffee you would go from 75 to 100, but after the
coffee you would go from 75 to 150.
Which means the coffee med kit strategy would give you an extra 50 points.
I wish David allowed you to know how many actual hit points you had to end
the confusion of your hit point percentage going down even though you have
the chance to get more hit points with the med kit.
Of course all my numbers are not the actual ones you would get, your health
may vary when taking a med kit and when drinking coffee.
Phil

Subject: [Audyssey] Second Life

Hi Folks,

There's an interesting discussion going on concerning making Second Life
accessible for the blind here:

http://www.it-analysis.com/blogs/Abrahams_Accessibility/2006/11/second_life_
class_action.html?mode=full&hilite=13287#CM13287

Eelke (who's also with us at http://www.game-accessibility.com and
www.igda.org/accessibility) is already present in the discussion but I think
he could use the backup of this community. So head over there and tell
Linden Labs representatives and the rest of the world your thoughts and
opinions about (accessible) gaming.

Greets,

Richard

[Audyssey] sarah

2007-01-12 Thread nicol
HI all
I respect thomas' wish that you would like the topic of sarah to be steered
back to game play. I'm feeling calm now, I trust what phil says, that there
is no demon sounds.
I don't feel upset anymore about what my mom and sister-in-law said, you
guys gave me some good advice and I can make an informed decision.
Let me please just tell you one thing about harry potter which I heard from
a colleague of mine. He is also against harry potter.
He says in one of the movies harry wandered through a rose garden and
ruined the roses with his sword, the rose symbolize all good and he sees
harry as the evil one, the one who want to wipe out all good. I would just
like to know if it is really so. Why did harry ruin the roses? Was it really
to replace all good with evil? But asyou guys say, from the harry
potter movies it learns you morals such as the difference between good
and evil. But my colleague also feels that it depends on each person; if
you as person don't see anything wrong with it and it doesn't worry your
conscience or your status as Christian then for you there is nothing wrong
with it.
But this is his personal opinion, he wasn't intimidating me, it is just how
he feels about it.
That harry is the evil one, wiping out every good thing by ruining the rose
garden.
But to respect thomas' wish I will conclude this post with a sarah gaming
question just to show you how I respect people's wishes.
Why is the main character in the game sarah and not harry potter? I would
just like to know where does harry come into the game. Does sarah wander
through the castle and meet harry on her journey? Is sarah a character in
the harry books?
Is there also an ill faded experiment you have to shut down to win the
sarah game?
What is the overall objective of sarah. Is it just a matter of killing all
creatures with spells and then the game is won?
The chocolates you buy at the store, does it mean anything for your
character to aid him?
Like in sod, do your character also decrease in health if she is attacked
by creatures?
I have read fairy tales of witches who throw a wond on somebody and in that
way cast a spell on him.
Do you kill creatures insarah by throwing a wond on them?
I know by playhing the freedom millionaire quiz about the wizard of ozz
that one of the witches, I can't remember if its glinda the good witch or
the bad witch, but one of them carried a wond in the shape of a star.
Then you also get the cowardly lion, the tin man, the scarecrow who's
afraid of a burning match and the munchkins.

[Audyssey] sod

2007-01-12 Thread nicol
Hi all
I have beaten sod on its my turn daddy! You guys were right, I backtracked
in level 8 and I found a silent walker and when I killed him, I found the
message. I enjoyed the ending sequence a lot. You go up the elevator, then
you hear seagulls and all you have to do is use the radio from your
inventory and the ship is on its way.
Just a question for those of you who have done a lot of exploring. In the
area outside the boss room, there is this long passage stretching from the
elevator to the door of the boss room. As I walk down this passage there is
passages to my left and right, and from them monsters came out. I managed to
kill them all, what I would like to know: is it necesary to walk down each
of those passages?
If there's no ammo etc. lying there, then it sno use me walking down each
one of them.
Because I tried it and I got lost somewhere so it took me a while to get
back to the main passage.
I'm just asking for when I play the boss level on higher experience levels.
Well the monsters doesn't carry anything, but if any one found stuff lying
around in those passages then its worth walking down each one of those
passages.
After the guy says: tie yourself, you deserve a medal for this, the ship
makes a sound as its departing and the eva says: congrachulations, you have
completed shades of doom successfully.
But then the ship's sound continues. I waited a while to hear if the sound
will vanish but it just continues. So then I pressed a key and the sound
stops and I was back in the menu.
Will this sound play and play until I press a key? Or will it fade awayh
after a while?

Hi Nicol
I picked Sarah as the main character in my game first because I have not
purchased the rights to use the Harry Potter name in my game, and second
because there are few female main characters in accessible games today.
Plus if I wanted Harry to be in the game I would need to include all his
hundreds of friends which would be a task beyond one person to program.
So I set the story of the game during the Summer Holidays when there would
be no students in the school.
If you have read the books then you would know that there are a few people
that do live in the castle all year around.
One of them is the caretaker who takes care of the castle.
Of course the castle is the building for the school so they are both the
same thing.
In the castle are also the caretaker's pet cat, a mate to the snake that
Harry killed years ago and ghosts of former students.
Plus there are a few other creatures that you will come into contact with
like a Goblin that will only take your money.
Although there are spells that do kill in the Harry potter books I chose not
to put them in the Sarah game to make it less violent and suitable for
younger people to play.
You can stun the creatures and ghosts but that just puts them to sleep for a
short time.
Or you can try to scare them away which chases them away but they soon come
back to trouble you.
When you encounter a creature and touch it you do loose some magical energy
and if you lose all your energy your father will show up to take you back
home.
But you will not die, just be kicked out of the castle.
The objective is to explore the floors of the castle finding magical objects
that do things like the broom allows you to fly and solve puzzles and
ultimately to figure a way out of the castle with your objects.
There is a final challenge in the game that concerns Quidditch, which is a
sport that the magical people play.

Hope this helps to understand the game.
Phil

Re: [Audyssey] sod

2007-01-12 Thread nicol
Thanks brian.
I know this. The ending sequence have to be a surprise. Let me tell you why
I asked about the ending sequence. I read a post a while ago where someone
asked what the guy said. Something about hop in. they couldn't quite figure
out what he was saying, so because it was asked a while ago on the list I
thought also of asking a question about the ending sequence.
Also, when I couldn't understand the boss level of pipe2 blast chamber
which was meant to be a surprise because it wasn't covered in the
documentation, the guyhs gave me a hint on the list. If they didn't want
to spoil the boss level they would have e-mailed me privately.
I thought carefully about this before asking about the ending sequence.
I'm the last one that wants to spoil a surprise for everybody.

For future reference, you might not want to spoil the ending sequence when
you beat other games. But in answer to your question, every now and then you
do find Bio Grenades in those side passages, but it's extremely rare. Since
none of those passages lead anywhere it's advisable just to ignore them
unless your object locator tells you something's in one of them.

[Audyssey] ps2 games

2007-01-13 Thread nicol
HI all
When I was on holiday I spent time with my brother and his children have a
ps2 play station. I played a bit on the play station with the help of my
brother's child. He told me which buttons on the joystick to press and it
was cool feeling how the joystick vibrates when I kill an enemy.
We played a game called ragid and plank. Well that is how you pronounce it.
Its really a cool game. I think its almost like treasure hunt. In the game
you also shoot a lot of enemies and you have to jump onto leafs and over
acid pits. That's really a game I would like to see become accessible.
My brother's daughter and me played finding Nemo. It's a game they based on
a movie. That would also be nice to see become accessible.
And then we played a game called sing star where you have to sing and earn
points. The lyrics shows on the screen. Its almost like carioki, the only
difference is: the full band sings as usual. You can't take away the
artist's voice while singing. For example if we sing up town girl of Billy
Joel the original Billy Joel track plays as usual, but then you sing with
it.
The game is very lenient for it doesn't judge you on how well you know the
words but how well you know the tune.
My sister's children also had such a sing star game but with tracks on it
which is not so popular and easy to sing than the 80s tracks. There was
only one song on that cd which I knew and that's a song of the rolling
stones from a movie.
I new none of the words and my sister's children couldn't read the words to
me because it was too quickly changing on the screen but I got the highest
points just because I knew the tune; I lha lha lha the whole time on the
tune and I was getting the highest score.
I earned a medal on that song. You can earn different trophies if I may call
them like that. I think the smallest one is a face, then you get a duck, and
then a medal. I can't remember the others.
A song my sister's youngest girl loved to sing was tick tock. The song
begins where the woman is sitting in front of the piano and tries to
practice singing a song while accompanying herself, she only sang and played
a few notes, then she slammed the piano and stood up and then you hear a
clock ticking for a while and then you hear a sound like a car starting up
and then the song begins and in the song they sing:
What you waiting what you waiting what you waiting for?
Can you remember that song?
Anyway do you think an accessible sing star is possible? Then one could
script jaws to read the words as they come up and in this way you would then
listen to the words a few times and then know it by heart later on.
Is it possible for a blind person to play games on the ps2 without any
sighted assistance?

be cool if david could also add acid to sod.
It's the first time a 6 level 3d shooter game is available for free! Its
amazing!
Have you guys e-mailed the developers at the address given in the read me

Does it bother you that they might use the GMA engine illegally or were
you just wondering?
Do you think its necessary to inform david of this game? Do you think he
needs to investigate if his engine was used?
Do you think people can anyway get hold of the GMA engine without his
involvement? If people wants to use the GMA engine, they have to negotiate
with him. They can't just hack in and use his engine without him knowing
about it.
Guys I hope I'm expressing myself in the right way. My intention is not to

Hi Nicol,
Yes, in some cases Arazona Smith will scream when dying. He will scream
when falling off a ledge or landing in a fire pit. Others like
quicksand, lava pits, drounding in water, being crushed by a boulder,
will be different.
As it happens I am waiting to debug the level and for my voice narater
to finish with the files, and I will be putting out a more up to date

Re: [Audyssey] Dragon Warrior

2007-01-14 Thread nicol
Hay guys please understand ivan's situation. The boy lost his dad and his
brother. He is really a trauma case. He's not himself. John, his mentor
assured me that ivan isn't using liam's sounds anymore. Ivan begged so many
times to get back onto this list.
It happened all like this: one day I received out of the blue a message from
ivan threatening me that he will ban me from his list. He accused me of
jumping down him. So I wrote him a straight forward message back telling him
that he is the guilty one, he stole another dev's ideas AND NOW HE WANTS TO
BAN ME FROM his list while I'm innoscent. I told him that in south Africa
kids who did something like that were either prisoned or spanked. john and
ivan begged me to please understand that he is going through a lot of
trauma.
Ivan has begged me so many times to ask Thomas to put him back on list. If
one goes through trauma you are not yourself and you do things that you
won't do if you were not in trauma. Ivan noticed his mistake and once again
john assured me he left liam's sounds.
So this is the contact I had with ivan and what I can tell you guys .
Please give him another chance. Although it might sound like liams's sounds,
john assured me it isn't.

Hi Josh and all,
I am not certain that Dragon Warrior is an actual game. Previously, on
this list Ivan, the aledged developer of Dragon Warrior, took Liam's
game Super Liam, modified the sounds, and attempted to pass it off as
Dragon Warrior. It was one of the factors that wound up getting him
banned from this forem.
According to the recent podcast it still seams like Super Liam with a
bunch of new sounds added, and a few other nifty tricks to throw you
off. So bottom line I really don't trust Ivan or his word very much.
One other thing is in the last Audyssey magazine I remember someone else
was supposed to be designing Dragon Warrior, and that person and company
was not Ivan. My guess is Ivan took the name of an unfinished game and
slapped it on his aledged creation.
Sorry folks to be so negative about this, but I just can't trust him
much after his last endever on this forem.
Smile.

Sheesh, I feele hurt now. Its not me who must grow up. I was just feeling
sorry for ivan, but now I understand what you guys are sayhing. Its no

I want to tell you something I have picked up which might also identify ivan
as lier. I was, and am still subscribed to the e-ray games list. Ok now I
know john and ivan is the same person. But the moderators of this e-ray
game list is a guy by the name of john, that's ivan ok, and a guy by the
name of shaun everst.
Do you think ivan pretends himself to be shaun everst? The shaun on this
list? the shaun everst on the e-ray games list also feels sorry for ivan and
stands up for him. He also feels that ivan isn't doing wrong anymore.
Now I doubt strongly that it would be this shaun as shaun won't take 2
different standpoints, shaun I know you won't defend liam on this list and
defend ivan on his own list, so yes now I see what you guys mean.
Ivan is a low life lier.
He is 3 persons in 1. he also calls himself shaun everst.
I hope I shed some more light.

[Audyssey] tecno shock

2007-01-14 Thread nicol
Hay all
I also got as far as the room with the mosquito robot. I can hear an object
beeping meaning there is something to pick up, perhaps the mosquito spray ,
but I just can't find my way to pick it up. Everywhere I bump into walls
and step into acid, I just can't follow that beep to pick up the item. The
robot fires at me and he drains my health quickly. I wonder if the mosquito
spray isn't perhaps in prior rooms but I couldn't find any.
I tried firing at the mosquito robot with my ax and rifal and my acoustic
site do make a sound to indicate where the robot is but I just can't seem to
fire at him successfully. I picked up the acoustic site and with the prison
guard robot it made a loud and clear beeping sound and I fired
successfully, but with the mosquito robot I just can't get it right.
Has anyone came further than I did?

Well, since enemy attack and jedi quest will have two different consepts i
don't think so we'll have two same (or slightly different) sw games.
Basically in jedi quest you'll be able to move in a 3d environment (just
like
in shades of doom) with a lightsaber in hand, and if you pick up a blaster
or thermal detonator you'll be able to use it as well.
It'll contain lots of puzzle-like elements, you have to figure out a secret
code to be able to enter to different areas, push buttons with the force to
lower bridges to be able to walk through pits, or just use your force jump
to jump through.
As we're planning to do it as much realistic as we can, probably you will
have lots of things to do, in the pit's case you can jump through or push
the button and you can walk on a bridge across it.
Also enemies willhave weaknesses like in the original movies, destroyer
droids will have a shield, and other things like that.
Currently we're designing the whole environment, objects, traps, etc.

[Audyssey] danger city

2007-01-15 Thread nicol
HI all
I think danger city should rather be called self destruct because of those
mines in act3. it's a pitty that there isn't a look feature telling you how
many feet you are from a mine like in treasure hunt you can see how many
feet you are from a mine. and don't you agree that those mines makes such a
humming sound that its impossible to distinguish a mine to the right of you
from a mine to the left of you?
I tell you guys, that intro to act3 was really horrifying. I wondered what
the guy was typing. He was certainly entering something into a computer
which caused the whole place to be filled with mines.
It's a pitty that xl studios has closed down. I agree also that danger
city is unfinished; it needs a lot of improvement.

Hi all
I read so many posts about the quake games, but somewhere I have lost the
thread. You know? In our country there is a sayhing: I heard the bell but I
don't know where the gong is hanging. Just a humerous expression to denote:
I don't know exactly what's going on.
Anywayh, first of all, do I need to purchase a program in order to play
these quake games like all these different mods?
Is all the quake mods like sod? The star wars mod of quake: is it also a
3d navigation?
I can remember reading something about playing the mods on a shareware
version. Does that mean that I have to purchase quake to fully playh these
mods?
At first my impression was that all starwar games works like trek2000, but
if I understand you correctly cara: the star wars mod of quake is also 3d?
so if I'm correct: you walk in a 3d environment and you fight star wars
characters like you would fight monsters in sod?
thanks

Re: [Audyssey] i'm slightly progressing in danger city

2007-01-18 Thread nicol
So is it the only version currently available?
I managed to complete act3. I think that bomb thing is not a time bomb. Its
something you step into. Because I was standing still and just fighting a
lot and then I moved ahead and I got to the thing you press to complete the
act. First of all I couldn't get past those mines. When I finally managed
to get passed them this bom thing killed me because I was just walking. Now
the last time I was just standing still and punching and then walked ahead
and then it didn't killed me. The reason why I'm sure its not a time bomb,
because in act1 I heard when the time was running out. The game played a
single note, and it went faster and faster and its pitch increased.
When I completed act3, I heard water and I heard a guy speaking and a car
passing by and then I heard: intro level 2 and the program terminated.
Please could you guys get the code from Jason and finish the game or find
out where I can get a more updated version?

Hi Group,

I was also a paid user of World Series Baseball Special Edition. I never
heard of a Windows port of that program. I really wish there was one. I
did like that game more than the Kitchen game. The Kitchen game does allow
pitching and hitting variability, but other than that it is totally random.
You can change the players and the tea names in Kitchen's game, but
everything is random.

I did change things in the WSB Special edition and I am not sure how, but
changing the statistics in that game _does_ make a real difference.
For example, just to be silly, I put together a great team of all star
baseball players from all eras on one team and an imaginary team called 'The
Buffalo Blinks' (as in Buffalo, New York) consisting of all my local blind
friends--both men and women. I changed the batting and pitching stats for
the all star team and gave all the 'Blinks' high averages and low ERA for
the pitching. Needless to say, the 'Blinks'
slaughtered the All Stars in 4 games and by large scores. Again, I am not
sure just how at the DOS level, this fuzzy logic (which must have been
primitive at that early time) worked, but it was quite good. I really miss
it.

I also miss the 'Any Night Football' which was a DOS game from (I think) PCS
Games. That also seemed to work on the basis of statistics. For example,
you could schedule a game between 2 teams and pick plays and defense that
would reflect real life trends an tendencies and it _did_ make a difference.
With Kitchen's football game, again, it is totally random. There is no
control.

If anyone knows where any of these games from the old days can be downloaded
and used in Windows, I would greatly appreciate any information.

This was posted to audiogames.net today, and I definitely think this is an
occasion where people can help, sinse all that is required for an entire
hundred thousand K rant are 250 votes! and then we get a full time
developer!

For those who don't know, graille to the thief was an audio adventure game
(not a first person one, one of the choice style ones), developed by
foralltoplay.

The game had a very nice interface and some funny acting, although it did
rather suffer from a lack of actors and complexity, though both of those are
things Foralltoplay could fix with a 100 K grant methinks!

Anyway, instead of wittering on here is the message:

Hello everyone! Chase & LinkedIn are offering 20 small companies $100,000
grants through a contest and we've entered our studio (For All To Play) into
the contest. We are currently forced to work on games in our spare time, but
if we receive this grant we will be able to develop accessible audio games
full-time! We need at least 250 votes to be considered for the grant and
would appreciate your vote.

You can vote for us on the following page:
[url]https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/b/4861[/url]

For those not familiar with our studio, we are the developers behind Grail
to the Thief, an accessible audio game that was launched last year. If we
receive this grant, we will use player feedback from Grail to the Thief and
will work with you, the community, to develop bigger, better experiences.

Beware the grue!

[Audyssey] experience a problem with the combo box on audiogames.net

2015-05-06 Thread nicol
HI all
I would like to read up on grail to the thief.
I prefer the combo box on audiogames.net to read up on a game.
So I choose grail to the thief in the combo box and I click submit.
But I'm not taken to the page reviewing grail to the thief.
I still get the home page after clicking submit.
I've tried about 10 times.
I have internet explorer 11 and firefox 34.0.5
I have tried both.
Has anybody experienced this?
If so, what address should I use to report the problem.
Many thanks for any help
Bfn
Nicol

[Audyssey] my hospital experiences RE: Jim?

2015-05-15 Thread nicol
HI Jim and tom
I also don't like it in the hospital.
The m r I scans that was done on me was scary.
The sounds the machine makes is really scary.
And lying in the tunnel made me feel uncomfortable.
I had to go for an m r I scan 3 years ago because I battle with
hallucinations.
The sounds the machine made sound like heavy metal music.
And also what I experienced as bad was the x-rays that was taken of my
wrist and hand when I was 15.
My body didn't produce growing hormones
Thus, since I was 5 years old until the age of 16 I got injections twice a
day to produce growing hormones.
So the x-rays was to determine when to stop the growing hormone medication
so that I do not become a giant.
So what they did: they placed my wrist and hand on the x-ray platform.
They placed my thumb inside my index finger.
That was the most uncomfortable part.
I got a hallucination of a paint brush touching my thumb the moment the lady
placed my thumb inside my index finger. The lady who took the x-rays didn't
explain to me why she place my thumb inside my index finger.
So while she was going to the machine to take the film, I took my thumb out
of my index finger because it felt too uncomfortable. She came back and
again placed my thumb inside my index finger without saying anything.
So I left my thumb there.
now, I daily battle with hallucination's of people trying to take x-rays
and the hallucinations happens exactly like it really happened when I was
15.
And also as a kid, lots of blood tests were done on me because of my growing
hormone problem.
So I'm not fond of doctors.

Hi Thomas,

Those things bother me, but even more so things like, I just get things
organized on my table. I wake up and the table is gone. People walk in and
out without announcing who they are or what they are doing. I got yelled at
for not eating my meal. I never knew that it was there. After surgery, I
got yelled at for not telling someone that my catheter bag was full. Like
how would I know? I got yelled at for smoking in the bathroom. I was not a
smoker at the time. I just threw a tissue in the toilet.

The last time that I was in the E R I gave the doctor a print out of my
medical history. She asked if I ever had pain. I said yes, some times
where my aortic aneurysm is. She put her fingers on my back and asked me
where. When I said right there, she tickled me. She sent me back for a C T
scan. They started to explain a C T scan to me and I said I know. They
were like, what you have had one before. I said yes, but not to often
because of my kidneys. They were like what? Oh, we will have to wait for
your blood to come back to look at your kreatnum level.

Sorry, it just goes on and on. But for now Doctor Barns is just
recommending physical therapy and wants to see me again in a couple of
weeks.

Hi Jim,

I can definitely empathize. I hate going to the hospital myself, and have
spent my fair share of time in them over my life. No matter what they do it
is hard to get comfortable since they always wake you up, poke you with
needles, take your blood pressure, whatever when all you want is time to
have some rest and relaxation.

Cheers!

 Jim

Hi Rom.

It's the scifi side scroller from Reality associates, a new developer, Find
more info on:
http://audiogames.net/db.php?action=view&id=Deathmatch: project alpha

Not a bad game, lots of exploring and a nice world and atmosphere
particularly considdering it's free though combat is rather tricky.

All the best,

Dark.
