Hi, Good question. The arrows made during the iron and bronze age were certainly capable of shooting through a man's body provided he didn't have decent armer to protect him. If it hit a man in the center or right side of the chest it would spell a very quick and certain death as it would cut clean through his heart, and his blood would gush out in a couple of minutes or so. If he got hit in a lungue they could fill up with blood drowning the man in his own blood and body fluids. Bottom line getting hit with an arrow could be very faytal if it it hit something major. As for fireballs those could be serious, but I don't think quite as serious. Obviously if you got hit by one you would recieve a nasty burn. You might even catch on fire. Even if you got caught on fire you could roll to put it out, or you could jump into a nearby river, lake, or other body of water to put it out. It would hurt like heck, but not quite as faytal as an arrow blowing a big hole through your heart. Both forms of attacks have certain defences. For fireballs if you soked yourself in water your clothes and gear might not catch fire. For arrows strong metal armer would protect most vital organs from getting hit. Valiant8086 wrote: Hi. Hi Charles, Yeah, you got that right. Here in Ohio we have a very active hunting community, and bow hunting is quite popular in this area. Let us just say if one of those aluminum arrows can take down a full grown buck easily it should have no problem doing in a human body. Those things can do a lot of damage. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Random items.
My thought on your idea? Probably not likely. This would be like shooting a bullet that had been fired at you with one of your own. For one thing, there's not enough time, and 2 other reasons would be the speed and size of the projectile. Arrows certainly move slower and are bigger than bullets, but you still wouldn't have the time to aim and shoot accurately enough. --- Pretty is as pretty does. - Original Message - From: "Ryan Chou" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, November 17, 2008 4:17 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Random items. how about a way to shoot the arrows out of the air? You'd have better luck deflecting them with either a sword or a shield, and even then you'd still need excellent reflexes. - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, November 17, 2008 6:57 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Random items. You could hold up a big heavy bronze shield and the arrow would hit it and be deflected away from the person. That is if the person saw the arrow coming and deflected it in time of course. However, if you are having electric bolts of lightning being tossed at you from harpies the last thing you want on your person is a big large bronze shield. Hi Willem, Not very likely. I don't know actual statistics, but I do remember doing some archery when I was sighted. One thing I can say is arrows can move very fast. Given that this is a dark, ancient, temple the odds ar you couldn't even see it coming just by using torchlight. You would here the woosh of it coming and the next thing you know it is probably sticking out of your guts. Hi Charles, not really. The spon code works the same for all levels. Now, that I have just spend the last two days creating random potions, gold coins, scrolls, and monsters I am not about to rewrite the code again. It is in and i consider it finished in my opinion. I have bugs and other things I would like to tie down before December 1 which is the date I have tentatively set for the private testers to start testing the game. Hi Charles, That is one possability. I have also thought about adding the feature where you could jump over arrows. In the classic side-scrollers you could jump over laser beams, arrows, bullets, etc to keep from getting hit and when you land put in a few shots of your own. Perhaps a bit unrealistic, but made super heros seam like super heroes. Grin. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Random items.
Hi Yohandy, It all depends on the weapon you use. If you use the shotgun you can drop a harpy, centaur, or skeleton with one shot. If you use Angela's pistol it will take 4 or 5 shots to drop one of the basic monsters. However, since the shotgun and MP5 are found later in the game they are there for fighting more powerful monsters. Hi everyone, I know earlier I said I wouldn't add random monsters and items to Mysteries of the Ancients, but I think I just changed my mind. I have done some experimental testing with randomly placing a monster in a room and as it turns out I don't think it is going to be all that difficult to do after all. I have added some experimental code to the game engine to randomly generate an enemy when the player activates a trigger. Right now I have only tested this with a couple of monsters, but it works fine. I like the new trigger method of doing things so well I am going to add the new code to the main engine as a full feature. Once I get random monsters working I can do the same with randomly triggering gold coins, healing potions, ancient scrolls, etc. Bottom line now that I figured out an easy and sane way to do it for Mysteries of the Ancients I plan to work on it this weekend. By Monday, luck be with me, I will have a game complete with random items and enemies. I don't know about you guys, but I am suddenly very excited. When the new random generator goes in this game it will blow Montezuma's Revenge away in replay value. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Random items.
Hi Yohandy, Actually, it is no fun at all. Earlier in the day I let it spon up to three monsters and it was way too much to handle. I reduced it to two and I either ran out of ammo or they ganged up on me so bat I was dead before I killed a single monster. So I settled that it has to be one monster per room. With the harpies being able to sling lightning bolts out of the sky at you from any direction at any time one of those hags is more than enough to handle at one time. having two of them flying around zapping you on the spot is lights out for sure. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Random items.
Hi Ryan, I have played level 1 about 5 times today with the new random monsters, doing testing, tweeking, etc and to date it has only happened like twice. So odds are most of the time the random spon code puts them in the center of the room, the far side of the room, etc. Unless I specifically tell it were to place them, which defeats the point of randomly sponning, them I have no idea where they will get sponned. Once and a while it is just going to be someones bad luck it placed it directly behind the door. Not only that, but as I said earlier my health was really low at the time. One sword slash was all it took to kill me. If I was nearly up to full health I could have backed off, got out my weapons, and went in shooting. Ryan Conroy wrote: Hi Tom, Will it be like this throughout the whole game? I mean, as far as monsters possibly being right behind a door? Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Random items.
Hi Bryan, Nope. I've actually thought about adding some triditional Centaurs with bows and arrows, to make it more authentic, and so it is a very easy thing to do. Just replace fireball sounds with a bow and arrow, and give them a longer attack range. Bryan Peterson wrote: I also seem to recall Centaurs as being excellent archers. Hi Bryan, No problem. I have saved everyones sales records on my system so I can bring up your actual invoice and send it to you with your original product key once the game is ready to accept product keys. I've disabled the register feature for the time being as I don't want anyone else besides me to unlock areas of the game that are uncompleted or accidently activate something that wasn't meant to be activated yet.
