Valve can change ID's to 1337_BANANAS:1:1182 or LOLLERKSKATES:1:1182, or
FACEPALM:1:1182.
Won't affect me.
In fact, I'm considering changing the status command to give random things
for STEAM_x to screw with people, and since it's pretty much meaningless
anyway.
I can't wait to see players say
I think it would be better to just convert the steamid to its 32 bit int and
use that for identification.
I wonder why valve changed the steamids string for l4d. reminds me of those
old VALVE_0:0:X id's.

I was trying to figure out what was going on here.
I noticed that you didn't mention your server so I went ahead and googled your
alias (mysteriousjustin) to see if I could find out what your server IP may be.
I found comments you seem to have wrote on this page:
Yes, but you must apply a crack to break the authentication if you wish to
allow people with pirated clients to connect to the server.

Yeah, I've noticed the new STEAM_1 now instead of STEAM_0, I've decided to
throw out storing the steam ID's as strings and will be converting my
database to store them as the 32 bit integer version of a steam id.
I kind of wonder why valve did that though.

Just an addition, it would be very nice to have the ability to list our
servers in the steam community group. Perhaps even a web based server list
with all of the servers, would be handy to have for the players who have
trouble fetching the whole list through the standard server browser.
You can't be serious.
